refreshing characters and more tactical

Im typing on a kindle so I'll keep this short, got this because I heard good things about it and learned that it was written by another guy imstead of Reki, made me intrigued in how would another person handle sao.

the art style is pretty nice, the main character designs are pretty good and some cute, since this is gun gale online, outfits and guns have gotten good attention to detail with outfits looking bulky with all sorts of pockets, to fit mags, knives etc, cool looking uniforms for soldiers etc, ( and a cap with cat ears to keep the main character cute )the weapons also drawn with detail, you can tell the artist is taking his time to get it as close as he can to the real thing

characters. in this volume we are introduced to 3 characters, of which in real life we only know 1, Karen, a not so noob character who likes playing against the AI who then finds out by meeting pito-san that playing online can have its theurapeutic advantages, its good to see how Karen matures at least a little from what we see in this volume and slowly becomes more competent, the 2 other characters are kind off mysterious as not much has been revealed but seem interesting, m-san with lots of battle knowledge with regards to tactics and Pitohui who seems to be kind of crazy but likeable.

While nothing quite important is happening storywise the pacing is very good, the detail which they explain the maneuvers or strategies keeps you on your toes wanting to see whats gping to happen next and while thats good the reason I gave it 4 stars is .. because since its the world bulding phase of the story not much happens, its like imagine you turn on the tv, you sed Rocky training and you are all excited cause you know were this is going, but in gun gale well ... it is interesting, you know its just a game and nothing is really going to happen shojld they lose .. or at least for now. you do feel tension in the gun fights because of the good artwork anc pacing but not as much simply cause nothing will happen should they lose.

now remember that this is my opinion basec on this first volume, hopefully well see if Pitohui is really hiding something and ups the stakes, Im already invested in the tournament but im hoping it pick up more.

if you like tourname bullet of bullets arc in Sao then you will love this too, except no Sinon or Kirito which is actually refreshing.

Hope you found this useful, I tried not to spoil anything.

Ahhh yeaaaaah, brand new Sword Art Online, with brand new characters! Or you know....Gun Gale Online as it where. There's some brilliantly drawn, fun colour pages at the beginning, and the art in general is very well drawn. There's lots of detail and the characters are fantastically drawn too! Llen is cute but not overly cute you know?

Karen as Llen is cute yet badass. That's literally her all over. As Karen you feel for her. I didn't have a great time at school because of my appearance either, and I really empathised and related with her and her situation. Pitohui is hilarious and badass...but also kind of shady. Like maybe it's me being overly suspicious but she seems shady and I couldn't shake the feeling the longer I read. M was an interesting partner choice for Llen and it was funny to watch the interactions between the two of them!

We get introduced to Karen and how she met Pitohui and started to get in to the game. Standard really. Then we swiftly head in to the Squad Jam competition. There's plenty of action and a good, swift pace. There's some brilliant tactics and each scene is drawn with excellent detail, as are the guns and the bullet lines and so on.

There's fun action and battles, but there's also a couple of mysteries too. I have my suspicions about Pitohui and who she really is but there's a piece that doesn't quite fit and I'm curious to see how it's going to play out. Either way, this is an explosive first volume that sucks you back in to the world of GGO and expands on what we already know, showing us more of it as well as introducing us to new, interesting characters! There's even a tiny, tiny cameo!

SAO Alternative GGO (what a name right lol) is rated Teen and has some violence being based on a virtual reality game that primarily uses realistic guns to kill monsters and other players (but without the danger of the main branch of the series), some stronger language, and a scene heavily shadowed that might imply intimacy of a younger looking female and a man who has reason to fear her as much as care for her it seems.

Now I know there is a bit of complaint about the main series so when word got out there was a SAO story coming out from another author (who from what I understand created the relatively classic "Kino's Journey" which came out in the year 2000. I'll be honest that I do like the SAO series and even though I have seen people create better versions of the original stories I think that as a life and death series that is basically a harem, SAO is still an interesting read and action series with tragic elements and some character building through the occasional tragic incident. It is still fun to try different ideas from series you have already experienced so how about we hop in to this tale devoid of all the characters we are used to so far.

Karen Kohirui is a very tall girl standing at 6 feet among a much smaller Japanese society and being shy as well it has been very hard for her to make new friends. One day she notices an article about how virtual reality games are making a major comeback and realizes she has a gamer friend and decides to try various games out in hopes she can escape from her height into a randomized and hopefully smaller virtual avatar. After trial and failure on may games that tried to make her taller she finally succeeds on the game Gun Gale Online which gave her a tiny avatar at last.

Now Karen is meeting new friends online with renewed confidence but her first new friend might be the dangerous type even if she helps Karen (now known as Llenn) become better at not only the game but as a Player Versus Player character and even convinces her to join the Bullet of Bullets team competition with another player simply known as M. Now in the care of M while Pitohui (her first friend) handles business in the real world Llenn gets to become an even greater player and must learn to overcome her problems she accidentally dragged into the game with her so she and M can show what an amazing pair they can really be. :)

My favorite part is when M is introduced to Llenn and she looks at him (I swear he looks like Berserker from Fate/Stay Night but with modern clothes) and the awkward silence that follows before the two of them can even start working together. :)

This alt story - none of our familiar SAO friends here - describes how an IRL outcast finds her comfort zone in GGO and becomes involved with the BOB tournament when encouraged by her GGO ally on January 18, 2026 (yes, as our regular SAO crowd is in the midst of the Mother's Rosario arc *blinking away tears*)

and you know, I just might wonder why in the Sam Hill anyone would continue to play GGO after the Death Gun incident in the Phantom Bullet arc. The characters in this story begin their GGO adventure five months prior to their BOB sign-up (group battle, not individual), so they are present for sure during PB. Shaking my head here, but aside from that, this is a great story and I love the emotional detail in the artwork. The artist is new to SAO and our brilliant creator Kawahara is NOT the writer here, but they capture the SAO feel well.

Gun Gale Online wasn't my favorite arc from SAO, so I wouldn't say I loved this, but it was a good read. Nice artwork, interesting and mysterious characters, everything a good manga needs. I'll probably just stick with watching the anime when it airs, since I would still like to know what happens to these characters.

With the premiere of the latest Sword Art Online Progressive Film in the US, I’m following up with one of my favorite spin-off stories in the Sword Art Online Series. This is the first volume review of Keiichi Sigsawa’s Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online.
In this manga adaptation, our story begins with a young lady named Karen Korhiruimaki. She always felt out of place in the real world due to her height and struggled with making friends her age. Everything changes when Karen is introduced to VR Games and a new game called Gun Gale Online. She quickly discovers that she can play as the chibi avatar of her dreams! Can she find friendship in the bullet-ridden world known as Gun Gale Online?

It is a story without Kirito or his friends, which to be honest, is a breath of fresh air. While it is a story about Karen’s time in a VR MMORPG, it is also a story of a social outcast who finds her comfort zone and finally gets to have fun without anyone giving her strange looks. While playing against AI, she finds that playing Video Games can be very therapeutic. It leads her to meet a new friend named Pithoui. Pithoui is a mysterious lady, who is very skilled when it comes to military-style gaming.

Aside from meeting Pithoui and her brooding, bulky partner M, there are subtle nods to Sword Art Online, the previous events of the BoB Tournament (Bullet of Bullets), which leads to Squad Jam, a team battle royale tournament.

I enjoyed the plot and premise of the story. As much as I enjoyed Kirito and his friends’ adventures in places like Aincrad and Alfheim Online, it was LLENN’s adventures in Gun Gale Online that gives a certain feeling of not only excitement but a sense of an adventure that doesn’t have any strings attached to it (Death Games).

The artwork, handled by Tadadi Tanori, and Character Designs by Kohaku Kuroboshi are magnificent. The action sequences are drawn with great detail and do have moments where it is unbelievable (I’m not saying this negatively, it’s something needed to entice the reader to continue reading). Each Character has a defined personality that has a stronger connection with each other, something that the earlier SAO stories were lacking at one time.

Ok, in my opinion, this is way better than SAO (Sword Art Online).
I haven't watched SAO in a while and I actually don't think I ever finished it. But, from the little that I remember about it and what I've heard from others this is defiantly better.
(By the way, if you actually like SAO that's fine, and I have nothing against you if you enjoy it).

Also, if you haven't watched or read SAO that's ok, you don't have to read or watch it to understand or enjoy Gun Gale Online. I'm pretty sure the only time SAO is brought up is when they're talking about the actual VR, and how in SAO everyone got trapped in the game and if they died in the game they died in real life, and that now everything is perfectly safe.

Manga about a girl who is playing a VR game. Most of the manga is placed inside of the game so what she is outside of it does not matter. It is a military style game that she is playing.
Was expecting more about guns than there was but ok it focused more on the story instead so that was a good thing.

A spin-off to Sword Art Online. And it's better than the original. OK, I've only read the first volume for both series, but still. I'll definitely continue with the spin-off!
Karen Kohiruimaki is a 19 year old 6 foot tall and shy collage student who feels she doesn't fit in. Finds an VR game where she can choose her own avatar, turns herself in to the cute (and smaller) Llenn. Meets senior player Pitohui who helps her in the virtual world.

Brings the same idea from SAO and makes it more modern. The behind the scene lives of characters really show how different things are. It also shows how different people can be when they are not playing the game. It almost shows multiple personalities from the game and real life.

🌸17th December 2018🌸

I received this volume of Gun Gale Online in my monthly subscription box from @lootanime. I really enjoyed the Sword Art Online series and this manga runs alongside SAO in the same universe but obviously in a different VR game which, instead of using swords, uses guns. I was excited to start this and was throughly engaged in the storyline. The main character is such a sweet and shy individual that only feels free to express herself online behind a different persona (which I think a lot of people can relate to). There aren’t many characters introduced in this volume which I liked as you never feel overwhelmed and the action is fast paced and exciting. I like the art however some of the action scenes are very hard to follow but nonetheless it’s a brilliant action/adventure manga.

Did like the gameworld's mechanics and actual world building alias a real life game plus...what Vr gaming could be like in the real world. I did like the protagonist said your avatar is dream extension of self ex...protagonist is tall in real life much to her embarrassment but she gets to be short in the game world!
