Jason Aaron grew up in a small town in Alabama. His cousin, Gustav Hasford, who wrote the semi-autobiographical novel The Short-Timers, on which the feature film Full Metal Jacket was based, was a large influence on Aaron. Aaron decided he wanted to write comics as a child, and though his father was skeptical when Aaron informed him of this aspiration, his mother took Aaron to drug stores, where he would purchase books from spinner racks, some of which he still owns today.

Aaron's career in comics began in 2001 when he won a Marvel Comics talent search contest with an eight-page Wolverine back-up story script. The story, which was published in Wolverine #175 (June 2002), gave him the opportunity to pitch subsequent ideas to editors.

In 2006, Aaron made a blind submission to DC/Vertigo, who published his first major work, the Vietnam War story The Other Side which was nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Miniseries, and which Aaron regards as the "second time" he broke into the industry.

Following this, Vertigo asked him to pitch other ideas, which led to the series Scalped, a creator-owned series set on the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation and published by DC/Vertigo.

In 2007, Aaron wrote Ripclaw: Pilot Season for Top Cow Productions. Later that year, Marvel editor Axel Alonso, who was impressed by The Other Side and Scalped, hired Aaron to write issues of Wolverine, Black Panther and eventually, an extended run on Ghost Rider that began in April 2008. His continued work on Black Panther also included a tie-in to the company-wide crossover storyline along with a "Secret Invasion" with David Lapham in 2009.

In January 2008, he signed an exclusive contract with Marvel, though it would not affect his work on Scalped. Later that July, he wrote the Penguin issue of The Joker's Asylum.

After a 4-issue stint on Wolverine in 2007, Aaron returned to the character with the ongoing series Wolverine: Weapon X, launched to coincide with the feature film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Aaron commented, "With Wolverine: Weapon X we'll be trying to mix things up like that from arc to arc, so the first arc is a typical sort of black ops story but the second arc will jump right into the middle of a completely different genre," In 2010, the series was relaunched once again as simply Wolverine. He followed this with his current run on Thor: God of Thunder.

Reread 6/4/22

Another volume that still holds up as being great. Russel Dauterman’s art is still as stunning as I remember it. Props to him for single handedly doing 95 percent of the art duty without faltering. At no point did his art seemed rushed or appear to lose its luster. A lot cool characters, great story telling and foreshadowing of War of the Realms. Those two SHEILD agents that were investigating who this lady Thor is were two of the dumbest people around. They almost destroyed all of New York and didn’t care. SHEILD needs to get rid of them. As long as they are on the force, the whole planet is in danger.

4.25 stars. Another great volume. Malekith is still plundering through the realms taking over everything he can. Plus now Loki has entered the equation as well as a few others. You can see the War of The Realms seeds being laid here. Thru his trickery, Malekith has taken over the realm of the light elves. Lady Freyja, who had been jailed by Odin, is brought in for her trail. Yeah Odin is on a power trip. This causes a civil war within Asgardia. Many battles begin here, Thor vs Odin, Freyja and her followers vs the guards on Asgardia and Loki with the ultimate scheme which brings all the fighting to an alarming halt.

The second half of the book has Dario Agger being attacked by people who are a part of a bad guy club that Dario is a part of. This brings back Roz Solomon who is becoming a favorite of mine in this series. Thor and Roz interrupt the bad guy beef which triggers a countdown sequence Dario has put in place. Now it’s a race to save everyone.

Absolutely loving this run. There is this energy about it that is making this such a joy to read. Russell Dautermans Art continues to be a high point as well.

Thor od Aarona mě stále baví. Jane a její boj proti všemu a na konci její boj s rakovinou. Co mě udělalo opravdu radost tak je příběh vzniku Mjomjo.

Mr. Aaron tells a great tale in these stories of The Mighty Thor. I love this new Goddess of Thunder and I enjoy that it is being kept in secret. Mjolnir is more than just a hammer and I like how it is introduced and it's amazing power. I still have no idea how strong Uru metal is but it certainly is great that Jason and his team expanded the idea of Thor's hammer. The writing was great, kept me interested and the artwork was top notch to me.

This compilation . . . I don't know. It is frustrating. It has some good moments in it, but it is frustrating. The artwork is okay. The stories are just . . . I don't know. Hit-and-miss. More miss than hit. It really felt like the stories were for another series that never got developed but were added to the "Thor stories" because there was not enough of "Thor" to fill each issue.

I am not sure what to say about the "character development" in it; I guess the development of this new Thor is okay. It's not great; it would probably been better if the new Thor actually showed up in the stories as "the main character" as opposed to feeling like she's just a supporting character in other character's stories. This run feels like it is more about Loki, Laufey, Malekith, and Dario Agger. I think it would have been better if there were two parts to each comic; one part (the primary part) that focused on Thor and then a "back-up story" that focused on what is going on in other realms. I would even have considered paying a bit more for the issues if they were thicker and more fleshed out instead of having Thor relegated to "third-class" in "her" own book.

It is funny - the Asgardians always seemed "larger-than-life" and fun to read about (even if they were "gods" and were supposed to be larger-than-life). They might not have always been the brightest all the time, but they were still fun. Odin might have been a tyrant and a dictator, but there always seemed to be an ulterior motive (or even looking at the "bigger picture" and what was good for the realm versus what his heart might have decided). I suppose those earlier portraits of Odin could be said to have been "rose-colored," considering how verbally and emotionally abusive he was, even for a king and a father to his own flesh-and-blood children (and even adopted children). Aaron is taking the Asgardians to whole new levels of stupidity, depravity, idiocy, and stubbornness. He seems to have an especially strong dislike of and for Odin (and "God" as well) considering how much Odin continues to fall from bad to worse to even lower levels that I would not have believed possible (prior to reading Thor vol. 5) .

Mjolnir.

Speaking of other dislikes.

There were some things that I did like.

This was another disappointment. I think I am glad that his time on this book did not last too much longer. I feel like a disservice has been done to this character that I grew up loving and enjoying. I will finish the next compilation in order to finish the series out; I can only hope it does get better (in the third volume of this author's run, anyway). I guess I am glad that I read it, because now I know how bad it could get and that it could keep getting worse.

3.5 stars...maybe?

While there was plenty to love in the reboot of Thor this is where the story loses some of its steam. I read the very first collection years ago, but as I have gathered all the larger collections I'm noticing that Aaron is trying too hard. In fact, I wonder if they didn't just pitch Thor as a woman and then forget to stretch it out a bit. Every issue has the same elements - Odin is a pigheaded asshat, Frigga is a better ruler because she's level-headed and calmer, Girl Thor is either in her human form suffering or in her Thor form trying to protect everyone and her identity. But there's no real intrigue, no connection with the character, and nothing that make the Asgard side of the stories worth a darn. Loki is always fun, but he's not in these issues enough to save it. All the while, we have lame villains that either Aaron doesn't know/understand how to write or ones he created that aren't very interesting. In the end, all I can offer is a shrug and a prayer the guys handling the movie do a much better job.

I swear I didn't hate it but there was nothing to interesting going on here either, too many overpowered villains that have nothing to do with Thor whatsoever. Loki was in it a bit but he didn't do anything particularly mischievous... No character development or noteworthy plot lines and not particularly funny. The art didn't impress me to much either... But I do enjoy watching Lady Thor kick ass!

Another 12 of issues of some of the most expressive and beautiful comic book art I've seen as well as the most masterfully told Thor story I have ever read, I dare say...
Everything Aaron has been setting up previously is building up to something bigger and bolder, clearly something huge is coming! But even if it isn't, the story told her in and of itself is more than I could ask for, Jason Aaron just leaves little "crumbs of anticipation" that keep you coming back for more and showing you where this series might be going, and so far, I have complete faith in Aaron no matter where he decides to take this series.
This book is generally 2 halves (as it was initially released), the first story involving more of Malekith and the War of the Realms, while the second carrying through the Dario Agger and Roxxon storyline built up I the last volume and the final few issues of God of Thunder. Both of told beautifully and slightly connected here and there. The best part though? We finally get Loki! And if you're a die hard Thor fan, reading the Journey into Mystery and older pre-2010 Thor comics, as well as the Marvel Now Loki series, this inclusion of Loki pays off ridiculously well!
However, there are two middle issues of a long lost Viking era story told by Loki that seemed like filler to me. It does play somewhat of a role in the story, but in a way that I felt was completely unnecessary. It bored me a little, even the art drastically changes to a more "exaggerated" or "abstracted" style with a painted feel to it. Thankfully though, it doesn't take away much from the story and you quickly forgive it for how good the rest of the book is. Plus it acts like a good break right in the middle to where I recommend people pick up The Unworthy Thor book before resuming. It's not too necessary narratively speaking, but the events of that book seem to take place right in the middle of this one.
Once again, Aaron knocking it out of the park!

This Thor collection features Jane Foster as Thor who is assisting in the struggle against Malekith the Accursed, king of the dark elves, who had decided to invade the realm of the light elves. Thor is also not recognised by Odin who saw her as an imposter and true to form, Odin is stubborn and inflexible, thus creating contrived situations. There is also the ever present Loki and his machinations. There is also the annoying Dario Agger, the head of a large, faceless evil corporation, Roxxon, the tech bro which everyone hates. In this chaotic cauldron, Thor battles mostly through physical means, hitting stuff and more. There are many switches in context as the story swings from the invasion to Roxxon, and then to the invasion and also to the court politics in Asgard and then back and forth many times. This is disjointed and poor storytelling, resulting in a story that leaves the mind as soon as one closes the cover of this hardcover volume. The artwork ,on the other hand, is excellent.

I really enjoy this series.
The art is dynamic, engaging, and complex. The story is multi-layered and significantly deeper than just "Thor is a lady now!" The portions of the plot that do focus on her gender and the reaction to it are well done and show real promise.
My only issues with it are that there is only a small cameo by Odinson, but no context or payoff, hopefully that comes later; the other I think there are lots of avenues of story conflict there that could be very interesting.

All in all I'm really looking forward to checking the rest of the series out from my local library.

Excellent art as ever, and a mixed bag of storytelling but generally a fun time. The issues with Loki are great, with actual character development and double-crosses and supporting characters from the Thor pantheon. The two issues of Young Thor fill-in are too decompressed and the muddy art makes it hard to tell what's going on, but they at least serve a purpose in the story. The final "Roxxon Again" arc is just treading water, without the sexual tension and with even more cartoonish corporate supervillains. The obnoxious "you go, girl" angle is mercifully dropped after one issue, and people treat the Mighty Thor as the goddess of thunder, which is just fine. On the other hand, the "who is this woman" angle comes back with an even stupider deus ex machina to bail out our heroine. 3.5 stars but I'm feeling generous.

oh my goodness.

What an exciting story with beautiful art. Truly an exploration of what it means to be a hero, and how to navigate a world that tries to enforce its view of you when you already know who you are (and don't get me started on how that tied in to the parallels between Thor and Loki. This dynamic is probably the best Thor and Loki dynamic we've gotten because of how Loki has changed as a person and how everyone around him reacts). This just felt like a love letter to all things Thor, Loki, and Asgard. So glad I finally picked it up.

Much better than the first volume. The art and coloring remained beautiful. Jane became an actual character, and her secret identity made for interesting stories. Dario ager and the other antagonists were great. Loki was great. Odin is terrible. OG thor was nowhere to be found, sadly. It's a little confusing when he went missing. This book leads into "War of the Realms" which I think is currently happening so I dunno when I'll read more.

Just when I thought I couldn't be amazed anymore after reading Thor: God of Thunder, here's Aaron once again proving he might just be the best thing that happened to the Asgardian God. A(nother) great volume, featuring the origin of Mjolnir itself! As for the artwork, it's the first time I've seen Dauterman's and I believe both him and Aaron make a very good pair!

This book is just a blast to read. Russell Dauterman is putting in some next level work in this book. Jason Aaron continues to traject and build towards war of the realms, all while starting to bring things full circle by bringing back familiar elements from his God of Thunder run.

The seeds of the War of The Realms are being planted everywhere!

Malekith continues his rampage through the realms and takes over the realm of the Light Elves, Jane’s cancer is kicking her butt, Odin declares (Lady) Thor persona non-grata, Loki joins the madness, Freyja falls into a comma, Dario Agger (the Minotaur) gets his butt handed to him by members of his own ‘bad guys club’, Shield gets into (Lady) Thor’s business, and agent Roz continues to try to destroy Roxxon.

Overall, 8/10 for the story. Dauterman’s art is still boss, so 9/10 there. Still greatly invested in the story and looking forward to reading more!

And a good thing continues, I love how Aaron has breathed new energy into a usually stagnant genre of storytelling: superhero comics.
