C.D. Reiss

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestselling author. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping a single cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

★★★★★! Kick, part 1. Heiress & addict Fiona Drazen’s life goes into tailspin of reflection & soul-searching with the stabbing of her master & lover!

“I knew who I was. I was a celebrity without talent. I was an heiress. I was a whore. I was a party waiting to happen. I was an addict. I was his, and in that last definition---that I was owned by Deacon. I knew my place in this chaos.”

Books in Songs of Perdition series should be read in order:
Part 1: Kick
Part 2: Use

Kick (part 1) starts off with celebutante, heiress, drug and sex addict, Fiona Drazen (Jonathan and Teresa’s sister) waking up at Westonwood Acres. She has no idea why nor any recollection of events leading up to her admittance to this secluded addiction treatment center.

As it turns out she was brought their after allegedly stabbing her master and lover, Deacon Bruce in the chest. For the next 72 hours, under the watchful eye of Doctor Elliott Chapman while the police continues investigate whether charges should be filed, Fiona will be evaluated as to her mental state of mind.

Kick follows Fiona in her attempts, including hypnosis sessions with Dr. Chapman, to recall what happened. Her flashbacks take us back a year prior when she first met Deacon and their tempestuous relationship leading up to that fateful night of the stabbing. And also offering glimpses into events in her youth that helped form the person she has become.

 photo KickHeartxBbysb_zps00501610.gif

Fiona Maura Drazen has a long journey ahead, but the fact she can admit and identify many of her addictions and issues is a step in the right direction. Seven words to describe Fiona: Reflective, smart, broken, conflicted, manipulative, strong and lost.

“And shame is not my thing. Privacy isn’t a prerequisite; I’ll come right front of you, So that rule is a fucking joke.”

 photo KickH1artxBbysb_zpsff194ffd.gif

Deacon Bruce is still an enigma, but he looks to be everything I could ever want in a hero [swoon!] Seven words to describe Deacon: Commanding, jaded, unattainable, worldly, self-assured, nurturing and enigmatic.

 photo KickH2artxBbysb_zpsbdf907c4.gif

I have a feeling we have only scratched the surface of doctor and ordained priest, Elliot Chapman. Seven words to describe Elliot: Collected, in-control, elusive, nurturing, focused, guarded and complex.

Needless to say Kick ends with a cliff-hanger. This story is a teaser leading the way into the series. I’m very much looking forward to dyyying for part 2, Use in the Songs of Perdition series.

Brilliant and addictive plot! Effortless and spellbinding story-telling! Not one, but two swoon-worthy and enigmatic heroes! A compelling and interesting heroine. I am h.o.o.k.e.d.!

“I’m not a jealous man. I’ve seen too much. And you, it was always a choice to share you or not have you.”

I don't know why I do this to myself but I suffered the wait with CD Reiss' 'Songs of Submission' series and now doing the same with 'Songs of Perdition' ... But if I learned anything from waiting for 'Songs of Submission' series - I read each part as it was being released - the pain of waiting is worth the reward in the end!

'KICK' is a story of Fiona Drazen [sister to Jonathan of 'Songs of Submission' and Theresa of 'SPIN']. At a tender age of 23 Fiona has already experienced more than most of us will in our entire lifetime.

The story (in this book) is told via flashbacks as Fiona tries to remember what exactly happaned to land her in the facility she is in.

As we slowly try and piece together the events of the last few days, we get to know the key players [my girl Fiona, Dr Elliot and Master Deacon] via CD's brilliant writing skills. I know we only scratched the surface with these three but what blew me away is that Deacon's character was only present in this noveall via Fiona's stories yet he OWNED every scene he was in which made me instantly fall in love with him. I know many jumped to conclusion with regards to his character but I am willing to bet that he appeared worst than he actually is because that was CD's plan all along. Those of you who are familiar with TOS, Deacon is another Søren. I will be shocked if I am wrong about this.

If you've read other stuff by CD, you'd be happy to see that she stayed true to herself and had some of the Drazen clan make an appearance in this story. And then, of course, there is Papa Drazen aka 'one of the most fascinating villains ever written'.

24hrs later and I am still trying to digest what I read ... so many theories, so many possibilities. I can not wait for part II.

'KICK' (Songs of Perdition, #1) is part of an anthology collection Bend (Bend Anthology) by K.I. Lynn from the authors of Erotica Consortium. It's available for pre-order on Amazon for only 99¢!! What's it all about?

There’s been a catalog of terrible events in Fiona’s life. She’s damaged, raw and rough around the edges but, as is always the case with CD, she’s ‘real.’ I believe all she’s suffered and all her addictions, there’s so much truth in the writing... The pictures are so clear.

In all the chaos of her world the only stability she feels is Deacon and being ‘owned’ by him. Did something change in their relationship…..? What was the catalyst?

Elliot, the good doctor, has 72 hours to determine her fate. To determine.... Is she a danger to herself or others?

The story unfolds through hypnotherapy sessions with the good doctor and Fiona; we see glimpses of the story between her and Deacon unfold and glimpses of the man that is, her master.

Sex is a distraction for Fiona...

The distraction has become an intense addiction.

I felt her addiction, "... the swelling," her need and urges are palpable...

CDR's usual, brilliant, writing is packed into this novella about Fiona Drazen, sex addict and drug abuser. The story telling is picture perfect; it's raw, sometimes uncomfortable, but addictive reading. I believe we’ve only touched the surface in Kick and there’s still so much more to discover about Fiona, Deacon and Elliot. I've a feeling this series is going to take me to some dark places... I hope so!

I can't wait for the next episode. I. Am. Addicted!

P.S. I adore the whole Drazen family and the Drazen Pledge.... Genius writing

Kick is a novella that was available within the Bend Anthology from the authors of The Erotic Consortium. Bend was pulled from Amazon for content, please Amazon, thanks for taking the right of others to decide for themselves. I was a lucky one that had preordered so I was able to read. Kick is the first story in Songs of Perdition and will be released as a solo book as well.

Fiona Drazen...
 photo FionaDrazen_zps9d3f5d40.jpg

Kick is about Fiona, a spoiled rich girl who is a drug addict and a sex addict. This story begins as Fiona is brought into a private institution. She has no recollection of why she would there. It is Dr. Chapman's job to figure out why she did what she did to Deacon Bruce. The story of her past and the incident is told in series of flashbacks by hypnosis. Fiona is tragically flawed but incredibly strong. The web that Fiona, Deacon and Elliot weave is intriguing, mysterious, sexual, sensual, caring and addictive. Add in the rest of the Drazen clan and this story of Fiona and her spiraling out of control life is a phenomenal read. There is still so much we need to know.....the wait for the second book is gonna kill me.

Deacon Bruce....He was my safety. My control. The hub on the wheel of my life. Without him, the spokes didn't meet.

 photo imagejpg1_zpsd4f42470.jpg

Dr. Elliot Chapman....I leaned back and closed my eyes. I shut him out. He may have said something. I felt his presence in the room, his breath, his existence, his virility, and I closed myself to it completely.

The words of CD Reiss are hypnotic, poetic, lyrical, spell bounding and most of all magical. CD Reiss is an author that I would read no matter what. She has a true gift of story telling in the most beautifully worded way.

Fiona Drazen is a mess. She wakes to find herself in Westonwood Acres, a psych ward for those with wealth. The only problem, she can't remember why she's there. Her memory is a blur and she can't seem to place the events into their proper order, so she'll wait until he comes for her.

As the therapist, Elliot tries to help Fiona pull the events from her sub-conscious he reveals what has landed her there. The man she believes will come for her, who won't let her stay here... who will keep her safe... he's the reason she's there. As the good doctor puts Fiona under, her memories come back. Not to the hours leading up to her being admitted, but to the time when she first laid eyes on Deacon Bruce.

Screenshot_2

He's her Master. The man that tried to keep her from indulging in random sex, too many drugs - gave her a new release that would allow her to soar. But Fiona didn't just want those things as a way to escape, she craved those things... she needed it. Each memory gives us a glimpse into a character hidden in the shadows. A man that you aren't sure if you should embrace or fear.

"And before you ask, and you will, he tied me up good. He gagged me and hit me. He made me cry a hundred times, and he wiped my tears and I thanked him for breaking me. I. Thanked. Him."

Screenshot_1

Screenshot_1

Fiona has just a few days to figure out why she's there. A few days to prove that she's not a danger to herself or someone else... But in those few days, Fiona can't keep the need at bay; her body craves release both sexual in nature and from the walls of Westonwood Acres.

CD Reiss is onefuckingbrillantfuckingwriter. Kick peels back an early layer in the story of the Drazen Clan. As a point of reference for those who have read SOS, this takes place when Jonathan is just sixteen years old, leaving his older sister in her early twenties. As a reader I love finding a story that not only allows you to extract enjoyment from the experience, but something that forces you to think. There are so many pieces to this puzzle that my mind is whirling with conspiracies and trying to fit everything into place. There are writers who can write, they can give you the start, middle and ending of a story. Everything structured as it should be, every comma has safely tucked into its rightful place... then there is CD Reiss. There is such imagery in her words, nothing is just black or white. Every word is put to work - sweated - before it's allowed to rest.

Screenshot_3

My need for this series, for this story - for all these Drazen gingers - is overwhelming. Of all the stories that I have read, all of the plots, the characters few of them reach the place that CDR does. From page one of Beg to the final word in Monica, from Theresa and her Capo and now, Fiona Drazen... my attention was captured. If you are coming across this novella and this is your first read of anything CDR I have no doubt that you just became an instant fan and will soon join the ranks with the rest of us who have made room in our hearts for these characters and this author.

A sex Addict, A Drug Addict And what else??

 photo 66593660-0561-49A9-BB87-BA5C90842D6E_zpsj3y0khbq.jpg

Fiona Drazen finds herself in a psychiatric ward after assaulting Master Deacon, her Master and lover. Problem is she can't remember anything about it, she can't remember being there nor if she did it and why she would do it? that's the question as Deacon is the only person that understands her, who has helped her to feel, to take control of her life.

Elliot her Dr is helping her to find the answers by hypnotising her in remembering the beginning, how did she get to where she is? The story is set in a way that will take you back to the past, Elliot is nurturing but also a good ole Dr, professional or is he?

 photo 7F18FCDC-CA0B-4DF8-9087-D7549ADE5C9A_zpsvycxeygc.jpg

Fiona I feel uses Sex as a weapon, She doesn't care what people think of her and therefore is one STRONG heroine I really believe that BUTTTTT I do think she needs some nurturing, not feeling sorry for her but someone to listen to her to direct her in a direction that is right for her...

 photo 2C5AA00F-E5B8-4CF2-8743-AE951B039EAF_zpshyukbmbk.jpg

And lastly the Drazen pledge.... Oh I friggin adore the Pledge seriously this keeps the secrets where they are mean't to stay with each other, 'siblings love' they all ROCK, they love each other they may fight or have differences in that love but bottom line I love there unity.

Daddy Drazen is a Villan that is a mystery and right now we're just scratching the surfaces and the Pledge keeps them all safe for now.

My Thoughts
I loved this short story, I love Cd's flawless characters, exquisite writing, I love Fiona she's a mess but still I see her strength shining through I do believe she needs to work on her past to move forward on her future especially with daddy Drazen he's a mindfuck he's a puzzle I can't work out... Yet And the fact that she can't remember anything....

 photo Kickgif_zpsff38f1df.gif

This was the perfect tease for what's to come, and I'm really looking forward to not only the next one but for the secrets to unravel....

This is a total, it's me. But Holy crap. I feel like I misread half this book...... Why, cause I'm so confused on things. Yes I get that this is a trilogy, my answers will be coming, but that doesn't help me. I'm impatient-lol. Besides the sex, the dirty raw and tie you up sex flashbacks Fiona keeps having and her getting off on a bathroom sink in a mental hospital room to take the edge off her highly crazy sex addiction, this book had me literally all over the place. I've read a lot of dark reads but this one I just can't get into it. I'm hoping I get some answers in the next part of this book. I love this author, I love the writing, I'm just simply confused and want answers...... need answers. I won't give up!!!!

CD Reiss did it again!

This time it’s Fiona’s turn.

I’m sure you know about addiction. Aren't we all book addicts after all?
She wants it, she craves it, she needs it.

 photo addicted_zpsbf308011.jpg

Fiona Drazen is an heiress, leading a scandalous life, filling the emptiness with unattached sex, alcohol, drugs and whatever else makes her feel, or maybe forget, without caring about what others think (or does she?), until she meets a man.
A powerful, older, worldly-wise man, with skills, dexterity and the capability to take her heart, and her mind. Master Deacon, her law.

 photo deacon_zps242be429.jpg

But what happens when he’s away?
How was she brought to her current situation?
Who really is Dr. Chapman and where does he come from?
Who's on her side and who’s the enemy?

We've only started putting the pieces of this intricately woven story together.

 photo 614fba92-393a-4d51-a226-a3b2922d2724_zps18cb264c.jpg

Once again, we get the experience of CD’s masterful writing and brilliant story-telling without realizing that this is actually a novella. A short story full of intriguing information, driving our eager, addicted minds wildly to every crazy direction. The possibilities are endless.
After all, Mrs. Reiss has spoiled us rotten with her Songs of Submission and Songs of Corruption series.
We get glimpses inside the Drazen family, the earlier years, the dynamics and have the pleasure to get reacquainted with some of the usual suspects, including the infamous J. Declan Drazen.

Is Fiona kicked out of heaven for good?

4.5 Intense, Down the Rabbit Hole, Preparing For More Stars
* * * * 1/2 Spoiler Free-A 2014 Review
Kick as a verb...Kick as a noun... it really doesn't matter... Using Kick as the title of this novella by C.D. Reiss for Fiona is perfection. She embodies all of it... and we as readers are thrust into this from her awakening with chains and belts holding her down.

Her first reaction sets the course of this journey....
we learn what it is like to have a sense memory of objects and even sounds which can stimulate intense sexual desire... no, scratch that... need. As Fiona realizes she is not in the usual surroundings of where she would normally be while restrained... we become well aware of how strong and real Fiona's needs are.

Through the drug haze, Fiona finally figures out what may be happening... to a degree...she is in some facility, being held against her will, in a padded room. As her mind races trying to put her last memories together... it becomes clear to her... something is amiss... something big...

We live in the moment with Fiona and we live in the past through flashbacks. We learn of where she is; how she got there and her journey through her 72-hour hold. Fiona is in a fix...her situation is precarious as it seems she attacked her Dom, Deacon...and no matter if she is cut loose from the facility, she will still have charges brought against her from the assault. Oh, and there is the other complication... Fiona is fucking famous... celebrity famous... paparazzi famous... and is known for giving them the perfect fuck you shots... so they will be hounding her in droves.

This gives you just a taste of this read... there is so much jammed into this novella...every page has either character development; seeds planted for understanding things to come or slightly veil revelations which then push more in front of us to ponder. We experience glimpses into the Drazen family which will shake you to your core. There are pledges between children holding secrets to be exposed at some point with full disclosure. We see siblings trying to help one another with surprising results, and we are introduced to a number of new players... and wonder just what their impact will really be... who are they, and what exactly are their intent with Fiona...

This is not all pretty...this is a woman who figured out a way to live... and whether she will Kick the correct addictions for her and keep the ones which she needs... because Fiona is strong in her own way... and we will see how all of this plays out when C.D. Reiss decides to give us more.

5 Kick Ass Stars

I’m prefacing my review by commenting on the Preface of Bend. Nerdy, I know. I also don’t care because it’s a story in and of itself and I’m thankful it was included. C.D. Reiss writes stories full of feeling. The splendor of her words coating you in thoughts both beautiful and perverse. Each and every word she writes fills your headspace with meaning. And just the Preface of this anthology attracts you to her style making you want to read more of her words. Through telling the birth story of The Erotica Consortium you feel the genuine significance and importance of this work, the respect for her colleagues you're easily bewitched by her words.

Yes, bewitched. Leads me to Kick. My god. Kick. A total mind fuck. A manic telling of jumbled thought and emotion. Kick makes you feel as out of control as the heroine. Feeling every word, questioning everything. So many questions. What are Fiona’s secrets? What in the hell led her to Westonwood? How can I dropkick the enigma that is Declan Drazen? Am I Team Deacon? With his undeniable allure, demanding tone, and penchant for the art of sex. When will I meet Deacon in present day? Am I even ready for that molten hotness? Or am I Team Elliot? Elliot with his gentle reserve, understated humor, and mysterious tics. There's way more to Elliot than we saw, right? Is there even a choice between the two? Is the subtle intensity between Elliot & Fiona the same as the overt intensity between she & Deacon? And most importantly – am I even asking the right questions? A sorcerer with words, Ms. Reiss specializes in the genius of riddle and mind fuckery, brilliance floating right off the pages.

Fiona’s an enigma consuming you in the depth of her black hole. She’s a bad ass in her own right handling her shit as she sees fit. I don’t feel bad for her. I don’t envy her. I don’t even understand her. How can I? As Elliot points out not even Fiona understands Fiona. The beauty of Fiona: she's exactly who she says she is without shame. Yet, there’s a completely untapped part of her, a delicate vulnerability, she rebels against refusing to acknowledge. And the brilliance of the writing reflects the manic state of Fiona’s being, trapping you in her cyclone, feeling all of it. Fiona’s strong voice carries you through the chaos on a descriptively sensory journey. Fiona’s something else. I loved her. A few GR friends have proclaimed themselves Team Fiona. I'm declaring membership to that club.

Kick’s beyond intriguing. Why? It’s the start of something big. You want; no you NEED to know more. The prologue to an epic love story? Maybe. A one-way redemption ticket off the perdition train? I hope. I do know, after Kick, I’m wondering, questioning, contemplating, and analyzing this new wrinkle in Drazen time. Already caught in the Drazen web, Kick provided the spider’s silk forever trapping me. Collecting puzzle pieces, the curiosity consuming, this story an intricate layer in Ms. Reiss’s game. A game that’s both a challenge and an honor to play.

Read Fiona’s captivating story. Take a ride on the crazy train. I dare you. And I'm pretty certain Fiona would dare you too.

The Bend Anthology kicks it up a notch with this amazing edge-of-your-seat sexual/psychological thrill ride...

Have you ever read a book and had the perfect musical accompaniment pop in your head? That happened with a vengeance for this book with an earwig from Tove Lo (remixed by Hippie Sabotage) the song is called Habits and it fits like a glove with this short story...

Click this link to hear the song on YouTube: http://youtu.be/cxvK4CPHaXs

That damn song ran in my head on repeat while I was reading... And so I found myself absorbed in another C.D. Reiss tale... The woman is the queen of tension and a mastermind of cliffhangers...

It is not necessary to be familiar with the Songs of Submission Series, but fans will appreciate that this book takes place ten years before Beg (Songs of Submission), and overlaps the flashback episode of that series, Rachel...

If follows Fiona Drazen, older sister in the infamous Drazen clan. She is your stereotypical heiress party girl whose life has become a blur of parties, drugs, and sex. The only rock steadying her in the turbulent sea of her life is her Dom, Deacon...
I knew who I was. I was a celebrity without talent. I was an heiress. I was a whore. I was a party waiting to happen. I was an addict. I was his, and in that last definition— that I was owned by Deacon I knew my place in the chaos.
We meet Fiona the moment she wakes strapped to an unfamiliar bed. Her waking memory comes complete with a blank spot which landed her in Westonwood Acres - a mental facility of California's most affluent fuck ups and liabilities.

Where is Deacon?
Why is Fiona locked up in Westonwood Acres?
What happened in the hours/days before waking in that sterile prison?

More importantly, does she really want to remember?

As Fiona and her unflappable psychiatrist, Dr. Elliot try to sort through the fog of Fiona's memories, we are treated to a host of flashbacks...

In the true fashion of C.D. Reiss this IS a big nasty cliffhanger...
If you know me, you know about the cliffhangers, and the ending of Kick would have been of no consequence. If you don’t know me, well, I do cliffies, and that one was pretty bad. Kick is the first book of a story told in serial novella format, called Songs of Perdition...
The next installment in that series is predicted to come out around mid-July, but I have learned my lesson with C.D. Reiss and I will be waiting until the entire series is finished before I read Songs of Perdition. As I mentioned before, C.D. Reiss is a master of the cliffhanger, and I have LOVED everything she has written. I will certainly read the rest of the series, but my fragile psyche can only handle so much. I enjoy her work much more when I can plow through an entire series at once.

I wanted to like this more than I did. This isn't dark, edgy or interesting. Please, don't get me wrong, the writing is perfect but don't seem to invoke too many emotions in me. Nope. Nope. Nope.

So the Drazen Saga continues with Kick!! Fiona Drazen the wild child in the group. Fiona's an addict, addicted to sex, drugs and ?? So much we don't know yet. By her own admission she's a famous heiress with no talent. She wakes up in a Psychiatric hospital but can't remember why?? She's told that she's stabbed Deacon, her master but why?? She couldn't have, could she?? She loves Deacon, he's her master so why would she? Deacon is my law. He's the only one I have to obey. I'm worried about what I did. How it affected him. Us.

Dr Elliott is helping her remember, piece together the puzzle, but is he piecing more than he can chew?? Is he falling for our Fiona??

The way this story is told, with the flashbacks and Cd REISS' witty charm that shines through Fiona Drazen, it's a must read. Yes it's hot, with the BDSM and the Shibari, but it's so much deeper than that.

5 BRILLANT Drazen Stars!!

C.D. Reiss shines again! Her writing is amazing. It is gripping and somewhat shocking. It is brilliant how she lays everything out, sucking you in and leaves you craving to know the whys and what the hell is going to happen next.

Kick is Fiona Drazen’s story. She is the sister of Jonathan from Songs of Submission and Theresa from SPIN. Her story is told by flashbacks as Fiona desperately tries to remember all that has happened to her in the last few days. She is in a mental health facility and doesn’t understand what she has done that got her there.

Not only does each chapter reveal bits and pieces of what has happened to Fiona, we also get a glimpse into how her life at home was. We come know Dr. Elliot who is just entering Fiona’s life and Master Deacon who she desperately wanted and needed to have in her life. The control that Deacon has on her is what she craves.

I read this story in just a few undisturbed hours. Honestly, I am not sure if there is anyway else you can do it. My mind is still processing everything. I’m trying to understand Deacon and Fiona’s relationship, knowing what we got was just a sliver of their story. I have a feeling Deacon will surprise the hell out of me. My feelings for Fiona are ambivalent at the moment. I need to think about her a bit more. I need to be able to better understand who she really is. And I have to say that Daddy Drazen is pretty cold-hearted and ruthless yet he is compelling.

Now the wait.

<4.5 Crazy Fucked-up Life Stars!!

Come Join the crazy C.D. Canaries BR:
C.D. Canaries Kick BR

Fiona Drazen needs sex!! Don't judge Fiona!! She has her reasons; some of those reasons, Fiona is just now discovering in this prison she has woken up in. Fiona is an addict of many things. She is a submissive & she is being accused of attempted murder of her Master, Deacon, who just so happens to also be a cop. Fiona doesn't remember what happened; her mind is a complete blank.
C.D. has once again created a complex & intriguing character that you will just need to discover every little bit of information C.D. will feed you in this serial.
There is a cliffhanger but I didn't think it was that bad so don't hesitate to pick up this little gem, along with the 7 other novellas compiled in the Bend Anthology. It is currently $0.99 on Amazon. Go grab it!!

The first section in the Songs of Perdition series by the amazing CD Reiss. If your romance tastes run to the kinky and erotic (or you find yourself kinky-curious) and you've not read her Songs of Submission series, then you are missing out. Ms. Reiss in not your typical blah blah romance by numbers writer, her writing absolutely sings.

The book opens with our troubled heroine Fiona Drazen, a rich and much-fucked-up celebutante, waking to find herself drugged and strapped down in Westonwood, a psychiatric facility for the rich and ubër flaky. She's being held for 72 hours to determine if she's fit to be charged for stabbing Master Deacon Bruce, her boyfriend/Dom. Problem is, she has ZERO recollection of anything that happened. While locked away, she meets Dr. Elliot Chapman, her assigned therapist, who will decide her 3-day fate. It's a complicated relationship, as Fiona has big time issues with men, with sex, with drugs, with herSELF, but mainly sex is her drug of choice. And "please, call me Elliot", who is both handsome and intriguing, truly wants to help her and suggests hypnosis to begin to ease and tease out the knots in Fiona's locked down tight psyche. Alas, in three days they can't even begin to scratch the surface of the surface of what Fiona's got on her mind.

As to where I stand in regards to Team Deacon or Team Elliot? I don't see the need to make it about them. I'm all for Team Fiona. Yes, she's fucked up, but she's a Drazen, which means she's a survivor. Only she can ultimately decide if she's to be healed with duct tape and cardboard (Deacon) or nails and sturdy wood (Elliot), and I'm anxious to read on and hope the best for her...oh, and hope that someone shoots the shit out of her Daddy Very Much UN-Dearest.

This was not nearly as good as I was expecting.
It's dark, gritty, ferocious ... but for me, it was missing something. I had a very hard time connecting to the main character, Fiona. Maybe that's because from the beginning of this story we are thrust directly into her incoherent, scrambled brain ... I don't think I gained any clarity in this story. It's meant to be fucked up. We aren't meant to understand it all ... But honestly, I just felt a little confused by the whole thing. Im certain that as the story pogresses through the series it will gain clarity, character development and likely my adoration.
For now, I will leave it at good but not great & wait for the next book.

This was actually a decent read if it hadn't been for a fact that I have to wait again to get a resolution. I don't think I have the energy to invest in another series like this one. There's too many of them and it can't bring myself to care anymore.

This novella is one of my favorites so far that i have read by the amazing CD Reiss. Kick was absolutely thrilling, captivating, heartbreaking........ Just like a huge roller coaster we were surprised at what was lurking around each turn of the page. Fiona Drazen has got to be one of my favorite characters that this author has written about. Fiona is a fierce, smart mouthed sex kitten who knows what she wants and how to get it. This woman is living life in the fast lane partying, doing drugs, becoming a celebrity with all the messed-upness that is her life. Although this story does have some major hot sex scenes that is not what i took from this book, nor the reason i liked it so much. I actually found myself a little sad for Fiona during some of the scenes because the scenes were not directed at how hot the sex was.... It was about her. HER need for sex, how her body couldn't focus unless she had sex..... Her Swell would make her go crazy....and she would do crazy things to fix her swell ( hott but sad) She used drugs and sex to sedate herself... Fiona is a complex character. She comes off as hard, not giving a crap, kinda slutty and just doing her but she has secrets hidden...... When she finally meets a man named Deacon he takes charge and starts to help her gain control of herself, her needs, her life.... Which is exactly what she needed. This book opens up with a bang.... Fiona wakes up in a mental institution. Her therapist Dr. Elliot tells her that she stabbed her Dom Deacon..... Fiona has 72 hrs to get clearance that she is not a harm to herself or others and faces the chance of going to prison for what she allegedly did to her Dom..... While in the mental institution Dr.Elliot uses hypnosis to try and get Fiona to remember what happened the night that she stabbed Deacon and when he does this, holy mother of all that is messed up and hot (this was one of my favorite things that occured in this novella) ..... We find out soooo many things. Her walls start coming down. Her head gets clearer. There are moments during her hypnosis treatments that were sick and twisted, leaving my heart breaking for this character over and over again..... Her Father is a passive aggressive jerk who uses money to get thru life taking down anyone and anything that gets in his way, including his own flesh and blood. There are sooo many things that i could talk about that happened in Kick..... Sooo many little clues that have you covering your mouth while you are silently connecting the dots.... but in the end it leaves you sad, mad and confused.. I am on the fence here. I can't wait to find out more about her Dom Deacon.... I like him and hate him. Dr. Elliot made me want to punch my tablet at the end and when it comes to Fiona's family..... I really wanted to take her Mom and shake her around a bit. I wanted to hug her sister and I wanted to kick her dad in the balls. I reread this novella 3 times because all the little clues add up I read so fast through my first go with it that to reread it made other things stand out.... I can't wait for book 2 to come out. I'm secretly hoping that Elliot jumps on the crazy train but at the same time I want to know what the heck happened with Deacon..... My heart was cut out and left on the floor with this novella....So jump on the crazy train and go for a ride with Fiona Drazen. You wont be disappointed.

As if I need any more reason to love CDR and her writing!!!

This is a start of a new series, and we get introduced to another Drazen sister, Fiona. And is she messed up, or is she messed up! She actually made me start a new shelf. Antiheroine. Because in my head that's what she is. She's not your typical h in a way that she's flawed, debauched, and depraved. Yet, she is a h in her own right. For all her weaknesses, there's a toughness coming thru in her thoughts. She's not necessarily lovable but oh, I like her.

The first chapter will hook you right in considering where Fiona found herself and what brought her there in the first place. You'll start getting glimpses of her past and the man who is the epicenter of her world. All being unearthed by another intriguing character. Layer all these with the Drazen family relationship. Talk about dynamics!

Now, the story telling, if you're any familiar with CD's writing, is just brilliant. It's smart, tight, and lyrical. I'll say it again, CD can write!

4.5 KICKIN’ STARS

“It looks like you got a little too much slap and not enough tickle.”

Fiona Drazen, one of the twins among the sisters, is a mess. A real wild child with crazy abandon when it comes to sex, drugs or any other vice for that matter. She finds herself in a mental facility not able to recall stabbing her Master, Deacon Bruce. Through therapy sessions and hypnosis with Dr. Elliot Chapman, she begins to piece together the incident that might alter her life forever.

In true C.D. Reiss fashion, this is eloquently written and the intricate clues that weave the Drazen clan and their stories together is evident throughout. I can’t wait for the second in the series!

Kick by CD Reiss.
*** 5 stars ***

I don't know what the fuck this was, but I loved it.
The story starts with a woman, locked in a mental facility, struggling to remember the night that landed her there.
There are quite a few sessions with her and her psychologist, where he tries to help her to remember. She recalls few moments with her lover. Some of them are sweet, others are sad and heartbreaking, and some are smoking hot-to-the-yes, but all oh-so mysterious.
The cliffhanger ending got me really exited. I love cliffhangers! It also got me thinking why in a hell haven't I read anything by CD Reiss up until now? Her writing is brilliant. I already have all the episodes of Song of Submission series on my E-reader (Amazon's 1-click be damned!. Or not.)!

Reviewed as part of the Bend Anthology:

‘I know who I was. I was a celebrity without talent. I was an heiress. I was a whore. I was a party waiting to happen. I was an addict. I was his….’

What to say about Kick? The only coherent thought we can string together at the moment is that we NEED more of this series NOW! If this was a sample, then the rest is going to blow our minds!

We were going to write a standard review but we’re still sitting here speechless! This author is something else and so is this book, in a very, very good way. So yeah, instead, we’re going to write down the words we used the most when we discussed this book on the phone.
