A short book that forms an introduction to the whole series, Call Girls: The Beginning looks at how Sasha came to be the woman she now is. We meet her as a university student, conforming as best she can to the box her parents and fiancée have created for her. Sasha’s one vice is lingerie, something the boyfriend ignores most of the time because he only wants Sasha when the lights are off.

As it’s only novella length there isn’t room for a great deal of character development, Sasha is nicely penned in and also to a certain extent her best friend Missy but the other supporting characters do what the author wants them to do without too much angst. A longer length story would perhaps have allowed for Missy’s half-brother Max to have done a bit more than the stud-work he spent most of his time undertaking.

A good introduction, but expect more from the novel length books that follow

Emma Jaye creates a well-wrought novel with entertaining writing that pulls you into a steamy world where the characters are guided not only by their lusts and attractions but also by their need for money. The reader is left wondering if Max and Sasha will find some semblance of an intimate relationship amidst their exotic trysts, but there is so much excitement in their lives that are dominated by materialism and sensations that you can see a score of options of where their choices might lead them. I was left devouring Jaye's words to discover what would happen to her finely crafted characters, but the ending only leaves you with more questions, yearning to move on to her subsequent novel to learn what fate has in store for her flawed, but exquisitely beautiful Call Girl.

(If you can’t tell by the title, cover,or the blurb of this book. This book is for mature audiences, meaning 18+ and up)

I am not going to lie to you, I have read this genre of books before I just never reviewed any of them. It wasn’t that I was shy or thought that anyone would judge me for reading the books. I just thought that no one would be interested in reading or hearing about it. But the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to share. I assume most of you are adults and are active in certain areas, so why not review one of these books.

This is another Emma Jaye book, I am sure you might have noticed by now that I read and reviewed her whole Hybrid series (you know the one with the aliens). But now I get to review this series as well, which I think is going to be fun.

The only time I ever read Contemporary Romance is if it has bikers, men covered in tattoos, BDSM, or more recently the books that would make a grown adult blush. (I blame it all on my Tumblr friends for getting me on these books). This book is about Sasha, who tries to be the responsible girl. She listens and follows the rule set by her boyfriend, along with going to school and making her parents happy. The only time she is ever herself is when she is shopping for naughty underwear (I mean who doesn’t love shopping for that stuff). But Max wants to break her out of the shell she has been hiding in. He knows what lies beneath the surface, but the question is will she let it out?

One of the things you can tell about this book is the where the author is from. I think you can always tell by certain things that are said in the book like saying or insults. Emma Jaye is in the UK and you can see it in her writing, which I don’t really mind. I love reading from authors in other countries (sometimes.) The only thing I did not like about this book was the fact I thought it was too short. I totally wanted more.

I love the style of writing in this book and the characters, I was pulled in during the first chapter. Already blushing and giggling away. I loved Sasha and Max their chemistry was great and I thought they were adorable together. Totally going to ship that couple. I loved that Sasha had a collection of naughty underwear, make me want to go shopping for myself.

I guess what I am trying to say, is that I am now (for a while) a fan of Emma Jaye’s work and I love this book.

In "Call Girls", Sasha isn't quite that, at least not yet. This first installment to Emma Jaye's six-part series reads more like a prequel. How does a nice college girl who's never done anything risque in her life end up trading sex for money? Let's just say she's starving for something spicy in the wake of a lackluster relationship. Max, her best friend's brother, becomes Sasha's guide on a journey toward things she's wanted but still isn't sure how to get.

What I love about this book is its sex-positive approach to the issue of prostitution. Sasha isn't a woman who has been coerced into the sex trade, but rather someone who is choosing her own path. The core growth of her character relates to exercising her own sense of agency. She is smart, informed, (mostly) safe, and her decision is as well-thought-out-as-you-would-expect for a young twenty-something, and realistic.

I also loved the secondary characters. Max's was a great hero with an uncommon story. It takes more skill than some authors are given credit for to write heroes who are all-at-once likable, decisive, and strong. This was an enjoyable read and it made me want to read more from Emma Jaye. Five stars.

I loved this book. I started reading it last night, after work, and I couldn't stop reading. I finished it in one go and now I am sleep-deprived because of it :P

The story is fast pacing and exciting while the writing is awesome. I'm jealous of Mrs Jaye's skill level. It was alive, artful and immaculate.

Shasha and Max had a delicious sexual tension building up through the first half of the book and when they finally had sex I couldn't help but get excited. The sex scenes were really intense, detailed and well-written.

Max is so sexy and vibrant I want to read more about him. He was radiating hotness through every page. I hope Shasha's story goes on and she will stay with Max. They make a really hot couple.
I wanted more of them. I felt the story was cut too suddenly and I was left wondering "now what?"

Thank you for such a good and 'naughty' book. I would definitely recommend it.

I received this story in exchange for an honest review

This book was a great way to start a series!
A plot like this one could very easily veer into slut-shaming territory but The Beginning doesn't at all. It portrays the life of an escort as fun, enthusiastic and respectful.

It's a short read but in that limited time the author, Emma Jaye, crafted fully fleshed out, interesting characters that actually dealt with their own issues. An impressive amount of action and development was packed into this story, with a trio of characters that actually cared about eachother.

I liked all of the characters, and was impressed by Sasha's enthusiasm for her new career. I especially liked Max. He was a bit smarmy but fun to be around none-the-less. I'm usually picky about my heroes but Max just totally had me. Max and Sasha had amazing chemistry together which carried on through the entire story.

I have to admit I was a wee bit more interested in the character of Missy and wanted to know more about her, her life, and her relationship with her half-brother. Those two played off each other delightfully!

Why 4 stars? Well, I actually wish there was a teensy bit more smut in the scenes with Sasha and Max, some things feel slightly glossed over. And I feel maybe Sasha went a bit too far too fast. Or, it could have delved more into how she felt about being the centre of attention, how she had always had fantasies like this or something.

Also, there were weirdly sudden POV shifts. One moment Sasha would be thinking something, then Max would be thinking something. It was a little too omniscient for my preference. Maybe limit one POV to one character per scene. That probably knocked my rating down a star.

Yes, I do believe I'll revisit this series sometime in the near future. It's fun and sexy with great characters!

The Beginning is just that. A glimpse into the life of the women that will be introduced in greater detail throughout the rest of the series. This book gives us the background as to why and how Sasha, the owner of the entertainment company that all of the women work for, gets into the business. When her boyfriend who also happens to be paying her way through college is discovered to be cheating on her with other men, Sasha leaves him. Unfortunately, this also means that she will have to give up her dreams of a college education. There's no way that her parents or she can pay for it. Sasha is determined to find a way to do this on her own. Her friend Missy's brother Max lets her in on his secret way to earn cash and she soon becomes a highly paid escort. It is somewhat hard to believe the quick change from blushing girl in her favorite underwear store to an orgy-loving call girl, but this is a work of fiction. With it being a short story, and an introduction at that, I'm not expecting the careful detail that I would find in a full-length story, such as what follows in the other books. Sasha ends up finding people that care about her in more than a call-girl capacity and finds the strength to leave her days of an escort behind. The ending is quite entertaining as she is forced to come to terms with the ones she cares about. I can't wait to read the rest of the stories in this series!

This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

This story starts with Sasha living on the safe side and adhering to her perception of what a good girl should be, tame and obedient. Her boyfriend Michael is funding her education, and without him she couldn’t afford it. Sasha and Michael’s relationship at first seems to be on the right track, both heading towards positive careers. Trust never seemed like an issue until the ugly truth rears its head and Sasha is left heart broken.
But when a certain Mr Knowels steps into her life and starts testing her morals and desires, Sasha soon finds a way to cope with her money problems, and at last knows where she stands.

This book caught my attention right from the off and I fell in love with Sasha’s character as I followed her on her journey through betrayal and lust. I couldn’t put this book down and never wanted it to end, but it did, and luckily for me Emma Jaye has written more.

I adore the cover, it is classy yet sexy, and I extremely enjoyed the story, so I am rating this with five stars. I would highly, and happily recommend this book to others, and without doubt will be reading Emma Jaye’s other books. She is now on my favourite authors list.

My favourite quote: ‘Although not all girls have a 'happy ever after', they at least have a 'happy for now' ending.'

Let me start out saying I don't normally read BDSM books, and thought I'd give this one a try to see how I felt about the genre. It was all rather light-hearted, and so I can't say it read too much differently than other erotica. Holly, our heroine, is actually a Christmas Elf (er, fairy) and is part of the "adult wishes" department. Sent to fulfill a wish, Holly finds herself involved with a dominant man willing to inflict the pain she can't help but crave.

I enjoyed the magical element of the story, and it is written believably. Holly's character is a little difficult to take at times, because she's so combative, but overall this is true to her character. The character development and plot is sacrificed in favor of the sex scenes, but the characters are still developed enough to create an enjoyable story. The plot is a little predictable, but again, this doesn't detract greatly from the story.

Overall a light-hearted, sexy read if you enjoy the genre. Also a great intro to BDSM; nothing too intense and the reader learns as the heroine learns about it.

This one is defiantly different. Not your usual HEA that's for sure. That maybe why I like it so much. Something out of the norm to keep me entertained and wanting more.
Sasha came right out of her shell when given the opportunity to do so. Max was even a gentlemen when it came to her and offered to step in and help in any way he had to. Not that anyone in their right mind would have turned Max down.
A few times I had trouble keeping up with who was talking but it wasn't enough to keep me from reading it and wanting to read more

A great start to what promises to be a very enjoyable series. The Beginning is a prequel to Call Girls. It introduces Sasha, a young woman financially beholden to a cold fish of a fiancé. When the fiancé's secret is revealed and their relationship implodes, Sasha is left considering other means of supporting herself. Her gigolo friend, Max, provides the answer.

Though short, The Beginning features colorful characters, compelling drama, and considerable steaminess. I'll certainly be reaching for the first, full-length installment.

Call Girls started a little slower but kept me engaged. Soon it picked up with the introduction of all the main characters and the reason why Sasha decides to start being a high priced call girl for rich older men. Sasha is taught “the tricks of the trade” by Max. Max & Sasha have explosive chemistry. I expected a HEA ending for Max and Sasha but it was a HFN ending. I supposed that is why there is a series. I will definitely be reading the next book to find out what happens with them.

This certainly isn't the genre of book I usually read but I was intrigued by the prospect of being introduced to the world of Call Girls, having never personally visited myself.

The premise is entirely plausible. A young student who suddenly has all her financial support disappear in a moment (and a particularly amusing moment at that as she discovers why her boyfriend has been less than passionate with her) turns to the world of paid sex to cover her tuition and finish university. Having interviewed a few girls who work in what is known as the "compensated dating" life in East Asia, I know there are women who are willing to sell their bodies for far more trivial reasons - to buy an iPad being one reason off the top of my head.

The difference between those girls and Sasha, the main character of Call Girls: The Beginning, is that those girls had always been materialistic and had also never viewed sex as anything special or sacred. They chose their guys from online websites, guys they had some kind of attraction to, and figured that if they were going to have sex with someone they might as well get paid for it to. There was a definite amoral aspect about it all.

Sasha, however, starts the story as a "good girl" whose only vice is a penchant for lacy underwear. Her personality would seem to be one of responsibility and the desire to not disappoint, mostly to her parents but also her controlling boyfriend. About two days later though, she is literally waist deep in guys at a sex party and loving every moment of it.

It's not that a person can't change, but the change seems to happen far too rapidly in this case. There aren't any days of deliberation or worry over the potential consequences of jumping into this lifestyle, nor any investigation into other forms of financial support (student loans?). Disappointing her parents also seems to have completely vanished from her mind as lust takes over everything.

The male lead, Max, is a considerably more interesting character. He has depth and there are some layers beneath his playboy facade; he seems genuinely caring for Sasha and his half-sister Missy (who seems like she would have a big influence at the beginning but is largely absent). He has a strong back-story regarding his promiscuous father and the way he feels about him and he takes his job seriously. He wears his roguish charm like a mask but you sense there is much more too him, as shown by his sudden changes in mood or behavior if the wrong subject is broached. I did, however, feel I would lose any feeling for him if he was called "delicious" one more time.

By comparison, Sasha seems one-dimensional, obsessed with the adventure of exploring her sexuality. If you look past that, though, you find a story that is well-written and quick-paced. The sex scenes are written with a good level of detail, if you like that sort of thing, never going into too much detail or lingering too long on the physical acts, instead preferring to focus on the reactions and feelings of the characters involved.

This is a short read - perhaps too short to really cover the journey from a typical student who blushes at being caught in a lingerie store to a girl who likes a good orgy - but for fans of the genre, I imagine this book would serve as a good introduction to the longer, full-length novels that will follow in the series.

Sasha is a good girl. Sasha follows the rules. Then Sasha meets Max.

Sasha has an older, rich, sensible but boring fiancée. She does what she can to help him see what she needs, what she craves, and it isn’t just a healthy bank balance, healthy food and good girl behavior. Enter Max, who seems to be able to see what she really wants just by looking at her, and his eyes tell her that he could deliver exactly that.

This is a great beginning to the Call Girls series. When a betrayal means Sasha could lose it all, we find out how far the determined woman is willing to go to finish her education and take her sex life by the horns.

It’s a quick-paced story, with twists, some angst and fun. Plenty of detailed sex for those who have a taste for it and it is well done. For those who enjoy ‘The Beginning (Call Girls)’, the rest of the series beckons you.

Have you ever wondered how girls get caught up in the call girl world? Guess no more, Call Girls brings to light the reasons and how being a Call Girl can be so tempting. It is an amazing journey through the thought process and the temping money and great times that the reader explores. With Sasha guiding, it is a journey of betrayal, lust and greed. This is a great introduction to this series. It definitely left me craving more.

Audrey Lusk narrates this book. With her genuine accent, Ms Musk enhances the background set in England. Each character has a unique sound so it is easy to follow the narration. This is my first audio with Ms Musk and I would not hesitate to listen to more of her audios.

I liked it, but it wasn’t really my kind of book. The writing is great. The characters are also very well written and interesting enough to keep my attention the whole time. Not loving the book, was only a personal because I’m not loving the pairing but I had nothing bad to say about it. It was really a good book. I’m struggling to decide to keep reading the next in series, because it might not be my favorite pairing, but it was still very interesting and I’m intrigued of what might come next.

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest, non-reciprocal review. To be fair, I'm not a fan of erotica, or formulaic genres in general, but I understand that plot formulas work for readers who want to know what to expect from a particular novel, or movie, etc. That said, this novella is well written, although I have a few nitpicks that aren't relevant to the thrust of the story. The scenes that are suppose to titillate are described tastefully and a story unfolds between them.

The main characters are given personalities and background stories. Max, the male prostitute, is perhaps the most interesting, with his half-sister, Missy, showing some potential spunk on her own. The story focuses on Sasha, the repressed college student on her way to marrying a man who only intends to use her as front for his professional ambitions. For some women, the financial security might suffice, but Sasha craves sexual adventure, preferably from a man who truly desires her. Once her deceitful fiance is exposed, Sasha insists that Max teach her all the tricks necessary for her to become a successful call girl, which, of course, Max does with the right mix of gentle guidance, skill, and authority. The speed of Sasha's transformation was enough to give me a case of whiplash. However, this novella is an introduction to an erotica series, and not an exploration of Sasha's moral interior. Emma Jaye is a talented writer and readers of erotica are certain to enjoy this series.

I haven’t offered to review many stories in this genre but it appears to be fairly standard fare and shouldn’t disappoint those after a little pleasantly titillating erotica. It does have its share of faults, though. Throughout there are numerous small proof corrections needed; on the whole my eye skimmed over them without too much of a problem as the story was rattling along at a good pace. The MCs are not very well developed but likeable enough. Unfortunately it was let down by the final scene, an orgy which, to my mind, was out of step with the previously considerate approach Max had taken with Sasha. In my opinion several hours of servicing so many men would not be the fun the author would have us believe Sasha found it; it left me with an impression of something sordid and distasteful, which is a shame as I’d quite enjoyed it up to that point. I had been considering a rating of 3.5 rounded up to 4, but in the end rounded it down to 3 because of this, my decision bolstered by the constant flip-flopping of point of view. I’ll happily accept a change of POV within a chapter – I often do that in my own stories – but frequently changing POV within a paragraph is going too far.

Sasha is a university student stuck in a boring relationship, but she fantasizes about what she is missing and at least partially indulges that fantasy by collecting lingerie that her overly proper boyfriend doesn’t approve of.
Her best friend’s half-brother, Max, finds her fascinating and can’t help but crave a taste of the sexual creature he sees hiding beneath that demure façade.
The story moves fast and you can feel the attraction between the main characters as Sasha finds herself pushing back against all of the boundaries that have been placed upon her.
After a shocking visit to her boyfriend’s home, she finds herself cut off from his financial support, and decides it’s time to break the rules that have held her back for so long. In a show of defiance, and an attempt to regain control over her life, she chooses to accept the life of a call girl… with pleasurable results.
As others have noted, there are a few small editing slips, but overall this is a great start to a new series. I’m really looking forward to reading the next book by Emma Jaye.

Let me be clear: This book is not a sophisticated critique of sexual repression or an expose on prostitution. Neither is it a cautionary tale steeped in moral outrage. It is a work correctly billed as "erotica". Do not approach it expecting it to be something other than a titillating story that involves the exchange body fluids by numerous characters.
Call Girls: The Beginning mostly focuses on university student Sasha and her introduction to life as a paid escort. I found her transition from "good girl" to call girl a bit rushed. This is a short novella. Jaye has made her intention to write further about these characters clear, so don't expect a neat resolution at the end.
PROS:
Sympathetic (if not fully fleshed out) characters
Short read, ideal for those looking to dip their toe without diving into a full-length novel
Doesn't try to be something it's not
CONS:
Very nebulous third-person subjective narration
Lack of depth to otherwise interesting characters

Call Girls provides a steamy inside look at the naughty thoughts and actions of Sasha, a young college student looking to spice up her personal life and find a way to pay for her education. The main character Sasha, is well developed and we are privy to her often-conflicted inner dialogue as she thoughtfully processes her way through life.

This is a quick read and is part of the Call Girls Series, which is a look into the somewhat dark but always sexy world of paid love. The writer has a knack for tastefully but graphically describing the sexual education of young and somewhat naïve Sasha who is desperate to learn the “ins and outs” of an exciting sex life and how she might turn her talents into a profession.

For the reader who has an appetite for tasteful but exciting erotica, this series is sure to please.

This book is well paced, a quick read, and has some pretty good reveals. The author does a good job in setting up background and giving you the right amount of information for the characters. It's also apparent that Jaye spent a good amount of time with tweaking the dialogue of Sasha in terms of her flirting scenes and how she ultimately comes out of her shell (although she does so quite fast). It should be said that both genders were also written well.

As far as the sex scenes go, they were engaging, but would benefit more from richer word usage. Jaye manages to sneak in some pretty good pointers at times, but on the whole, there's nothing really new here. There are definitely flickers of good ideas and approaches, though, and I bet that will come out more in her writing throughout the series as she spends more time with these characters and this world.
