The second novel in the breathtakingly beautiful love story and heartwarming Moments to Remember series . . . where love is stronger than a disease.
How far would you go for someone you love?
Suffering from Alzheimer's, Brandy Curtis makes the biggest decision of her life, putting their love to the ultimate test.
What if there was a cure?
Brandy gives up what's left of her memory to partake in a medical procedure that promised to cure her Alzheimer's. Waking up with no memory of the years leading up to the trial procedure or the man holding her hand with a ring on his finger, Brandy embarks upon a journey to discover who she really is--while learning about a life she can't recall.
Now, it's up to Brandy to risk it all for a spark she feels for the mystery man.
Through her moments of pain will she discover that their love can't be erased?
Ysa Arcangel is the author of the Moments to Remember Series, Underneath It All and Love at First Sit. She has also written an urban fantasy novella, “Nexus Series Book 1: Anathema”. She is based in Manila and is a loving partner to a very talented chef. She is also a fan of tattoos, a lover of giant dogs, and an enthusiast of extreme sports.
In real life, she is a Spanish speaking GDS Consultant and mother to three amazing kids. Her alter ego is an attention seeking and a hopeless romantic author who melts over a tattooed hero with 6-pack abs. Her alter ego is extrovert and a social media junkie. And just like in real life a coffee addict.
Moments of Pain begins just as well as Moments of Joy ended. Brandy is getting further into her illness and Ivo has to helplessly witness it all happening while being powerless to stop it. All his medical training means little in this fight for brandy’s memories.
Their love grows stronger as Brandy sinks further into the disease. Ivo is by her side through the lucid moments and the forgetful ones. He is not going to miss any of the precious memories they will make before the Alzheimers progresses too far. Brandy is getting more frustrated and is willing to try anything if there is a chance to retain some of her memories or even slow the progression of her disease. Without Ivo knowing, she decides to be the test subject in a medical experiment to cure her of this killer disease. Ivo understandably explodes when he becomes aware of what she has done, and follows her to be by her side after the procedure is performed. All is not as everyone had hopes when she wakes up. She doesn’t remember Ivo and lost years of her memory. Ivo does the only thing he can and gives her space to get back on her feet and ends up deciding to let her live her life without him and hopes with everything he has that she eventually remembers their love and what they had together.
It is so unbelievably hard to imagine how terrified Brandy must have been to find out what had happened in her life up to the present day. How incredibly alone she must have felt even though she was surrounded by her family and friends. And Ivo, my tears were also for him. To have to sit back and not be the centre of her life must have been soul destroying. There were real moments where I thought this was the end for them. They could not survive when Brandy does not know who she is, or remember the beautiful relationship they share or the soul deep love between them. Both of them tried to move on but something was drawing Brandy back to Ivo, like she could sense the connection they have. Again they weather this mammoth storm that is their new beginning. Surprises were thrown into the mix also, making Moments of Pain even more bewitching than Moments of Joy. I had my heart broken repeatedly, but it was impossible to miss the beauty the author created with Ivo and Brandy and their harrowing but stunning love story.
I am never left unsurprised when I discover a new author and series. I always find a uniqueness in every author that sets them apart from other I have come to know and love. They all deliver something different and exciting and I can always find an aspect to love even if I struggle to connect with the story or author. Ysa Arcangel has provided me with a great story and a new style to escape into. The way Brandy and Ivo were written about was brutal, confronting, honest, raw, passionate, humorous, clever, beautiful, deep, and so much more. This author and the Moments to Remember seriesse highest praise for these books about a hideous disease that robs you of your memories and knowledge of your life, love and joy.
I am so beyond excited to see what else unfolds for Brandy and Ivo in the third book, Moment of Love. A guaranteed sensational read. 5 stars
** 5 Stars ** A Moment of Pain – By YSA Arcangel A Moment of Pain is the sequel to the heart warming story, A moment of Joy. After reading the first book, I started the second one immediately, because it was THAT good! AND, I read both in the same day! This story is about a young woman who falls in love, and then falls victim to a serious disease called Alzheimer’s Disease. To prevent herself from destroying the man she loves, she undergoes experimental treatment, with the hopes of curing her illness. And that’s as much as I’m willing to say about the plot. Ever been in a situation of total surprise? I like to think of myself as well read, and educated in many subjects. I have personal experience with Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease, as my grandmother suffers from it, and prior to that I became certified as a care worker specializing in Dementia. It’s ugly, and affects not only the person suffering from it, but all of the people surrounding them. It’s hard to watch your loved one mentally and physically deteriorate. Knowing this from reading about it in a book, and living it are two entirely different things. And I live it. So it came as a total surprise that this book broke my heart. And I’m no softie. However I am a romantic, and this book has romance in spades! Archangel has managed to make this part of the story flow perfectly with the first part. I would not recommend reading this as a standalone. The first book is definitely required to understand the disease, the characters and the changes the disease has caused. This book starts off exactly where the last book finished and doesn’t explain who the characters are, or how they are involved. There are moments I laughed, moments I cried, and moments that almost knocked me off my chair in surprise. I am usually pretty good at foreshadowing what will happen in a story after I have read a few chapters, but this novel had me on the edge of my seat in suspense. It has ALL the qualities I look for in a novel and them some! It is well written, and the author has clearly done her research as she not only educates us a little bit about Italian architectural history, but she also educates us about Medical Science and procedures. If what she wrote is completely fabricated, she did an amazing job making it up! This author has written this so well, you get the feeling she has personal experience in all the things her character’s are going through. If you want to fall in love, and learn a bit while doing it, this is definitely the book for you!
Moments of pain is the second novel in the Moments to Remember series following Ivo and his now wife, Brandy. Ivo and Brandy have crossed many obstacles together and seem to be on the same page by confronting her diagnosis of Alzheimer’s head on. With tests confirming her worst nightmare, Brandy feels like she has to make a drastic choice to help save her relationship with Ivo and give them both the lives that they deserve. Unfortunately, Ivo was not informed about this major life altering decision and feels betrayed by Brandy’s entire family since they kept it from him. All of Brandy’s siblings kept their promise to her and helped her carry out the plan to have this risky medical procedure because this is what she decided that she wanted when she was of sound mind and body. After the procedure is complete, life is nothing like what it used to be. Brandy and Ivo both have their lives complete flipped upside down and quickly find themselves further apart than they have ever been. Brandy asks Ivo to leave, to just be friends and to find someone else..but can he? Ivo is destroyed by the path their lives are taking but gets a last minute miracle that could bring them back together. Can Ivo convince Brandy that he is still the man that she is supposed to be with? Can Brandy allow herself to fall in love with this new life situation and have the life she has always dreamed of? Or will this dreaded disease called Alzheimer’s tear away everything that they have promised and built for each other, before they even got the chance to start.
“Brandy, You don’t have to promise me the moon and the stars, just promise you’ll stnd under them with me..forever”
Whew…this book. I feel like I can’t go into much details because I don’t want to spoil the book for those who haven’t read it, but I was completely blown away. I was SO much more attached to the characters in this novel than the first and was completely gripped from the beginning. Ivo proved to me again that chivalry and true love is not dead, and was willing to give up everything just to give someone else happiness no matter how much it hurt. Brandy was also given a new perspective in this storyline and I feel like we got to witness even more of her emotions and thought process through this devastating disease. The family dynamic in this is still incredible and both Brandy and Ivo are surrounded by incredible family that both support them but also make sure they are keeping perspectives realistic. This book ties beautifully into the first installment and fills in more of the blanks that were left, and then the ending.. come on! I need the third book immediately. I do not want to have to wait long to find out what happens, but I am terrified that it is going to destroy me.
Moments of Pain picks up right where Moments of Joy ended and is every bit as compelling and heart wrenching if not more than the first. Moments of Pain continues to share the strong love between Ivo and Brandy and the lengths that someone is prepared to go for the one they love.
Brandy’s illness is progressing at an alarming rate and Ivo, even with all his medical training, is having to sit by helplessly, and witness it all happening before his eyes whilst being powerless to stop it. But he is right there by her side. Brandy is getting less memory lucid and very frustrated and without involving and letting Ivo know she decides to try the medical experimental testing to cure try to find a cure for her Alzheimer’s. She is willing to do all she can so she can have the life, love and family with the man she loves.
When Brandy awakes everyone finds that the treatment has wiped her memory and she has no memory of the man she loves or things that have happened for a number of years. Ivo’s heart is breaking as he realises the woman he loves doesn’t even recognise him. She doesn’t know who is is or what they shared together, so he does the only thing he can do and that is give her the time and space she needs and is he has to he is prepared to let her go..
Whilst Brandy is feeling alone and terrified and struggling and my heart went out to her, I found it incredibly hard to watch/read the struggles Ivo was going through. It was incredibly sad and the emotions I felt for him were overwhelmingly strong. Ysa is such a powerful writer that she can evoke such strong emotions in someone with just one story. It is a brutally honest and raw look into how this disease can destroy lives. It is a beautiful yet heartbreaking story that is full of so much emotional pain, love and passion, fear and ups and downs. You will most certainly need a box of tissues and a stiff drink just to get through it.
Moments of Pain by Ysa Arcangel, is book 2 in her Moments to Remember series. This was a new author for me, and I really did enjoy her book. It’s quite sad, but also very heart warming. Even though I picked up this series after the beginning, things flowed quite well. There was enough information mentioned from book one that it made up for not reading book one. This story is beautiful, full of emotion and love all at once. It continues to tell about the strong love that Ivo has for Brandy, and how that isn’t going to change despite the events that occur. We all know Brandy is suffering from Alzheimer’s and it isn’t looking any better. She’s about to make the biggest if not the most important decision of her life. She’s willing to sacrifice herself for the love of others. What she thinks is a possible solution, might actually be someone else’s nightmare or least favorite thing. She can’t be selfish and think of only herself, those she loves also matter. Ivo knows that the Brandy’s sacrifice might have a negative outcome, and despite him not wanting her to go through with it she does. Now he has to work with her to get her back. His love for her is so strong, it can overcome anything; including starting on a blank slate. He is willing to do that but Brandy has other ideas and feelings. Will they both be able to overcome this new beginning or will they have to go separate ways? Will love conquer all? There’s only one way to find out, and that’s in book three. I’m anxious to see what’s next, and I hope it won’t leave me sad and crying. 5 stars.
Moments of Pain: Moments to Remember, book 2 By Ysa Arcangel 5/5 Stars
**Author’s Note- Brandy Curtis and Ivo Ferrero first appeared in Moments of Joy, A heart-warming and steamy, not so typical Alzheimer's - love story. It's is a passionate journey to love, you soon won't forget! It's is important that you read the book before you read Moments of Pain!!
Moments of Pain is the second book in the Moments to remember series, by Ysa Arcangel. And just like the author noted, you must read Moments of Joy first! You'll want to learn more about Brandy and Ivo’s story. And what led them to where they are now, in the second book!! Let me just say, as a caregiver for the elderly… I have dealt with dementia and Alzheimer's patients. It is a terrible and heartbreaking disease. It doesn't just affect one person, it truly does affect the entire family. Seeing firsthand how it affects everyone. It's devastating and soul crushing disease. I really do hope their is a cure one day in the future!! Brandy Curtis’ and Ivo Ferrero’s love story has been a long and bumpy road. At first, it was supposed to be a one night stand. Eventually, it turned into a mutual arrangement, But then, something, much much more happened ! Something Brandy wasn't prepared for , or expected! With Brandy’s Alzheimer's disease progressing at a quick rate. She knows her time is running out. She knows eventually she'll forget things, names, and people. All the memories she has of Ivo ( and her ) will be vanished into thin air. So taking matters into her own hands, during a lucid period… she signed a waiver to participate in a medical procedure, it promises to cure her Alzheimer's. But nothing in life is guaranteed!! Is her love for Ivo, stronger than her disease? How far will she go for love ? Will the experiment help her or make matters worse, far worse than anyone expected? You MUST read this book ( and series )! It's a little sad, but their journey to love is soo worth it!! The way Ysa writes, is so beautifully done. You feel how much Ivo loves Brandy. He will do absolutely anything and everything for her!! Every woman, wants that kind of love! Another amazing job, Ysa! I can't wait happens to read the third book!
Moments of Pain (Moments to Remember Book 2) by YSA Arcangel is the second book in the Moments to remember book and is just as good, if not better, then the first. As this book picks up from where the last book ends, I would recommend going back and reading the first book if you haven’t done so already. Brandy has Alzheimer’s, and unfortunately the disease just seems to be getting worse. Though she has the love and support of Ivo who is there for everything. Things get rough when Brandy gets so tired and desperate to either get rid of the disease or at least slow it down, that she signs up for an experimental medical procedure without telling Ivo. Being, understandably, upset Ivo still follows Brandy and is there for her after the procedure. The problem? Brandy has always been afraid of losing her memory and that is exactly what doing the procedure has cost her, her memories. She ends up losing years of her memories, even the memories including Ivo. It’s sad and heartbreaking when you think of how the characters feel and what they are going through. With Brandy, it must be scary not remembering a majority of your life and things to be different from what memories you do have. To feel a connection to a guy that you married and are supposed to be in love with, but can’t remember who he even is. For Ivo, the hurt he must feel. His wife not remembering him, and deciding to step back to allow her time to get everything sorted. It’s rough to imagine the pain that he must feel at the fact that without her even remembering who he is and him still being so in love with her… this just may be the end of the road for them.
Moments of Pain is the second book in the highly emotional Moments to Remember Series by Ysa Arcangel. Moments of Pain is just as sad and heartwarming as her first book in the series. Brandy is suffering from early onset Alzheimer's disease and she is not getting any better. Now, Brandy has to make a life changing decision when she is very lucid, which if it does not help her life may help others suffering from this horrible disease. Brandy made this very tough decision without sharing the decision process with Ivo.
Ivo loves Brandy with all his heart and soul. When Ivo finds out what Brandy signed up for, he becomes furious with what she decided to do on her own. Ivo’s love for Brandy is so very strong, that he is there by Brandy’s. Unfortunately the procedure does not go as Brandy and Ivo had hoped. Brandy wakes up and does not remember anything about Ivo or the past decade or so of her life.
What a heartbreaking decision that needs to be decided, Brandy has to start her life again. Ivo has some very hard and life changing decisions he has to make. He loved Brandy, but she has no recollection of who Ivo is. Will he be patient and see if Brandy gets her memory back? Or does he decide to leave, so they both can move on?
Ysa Arcangel does a wonderful job sharing the story from the point of view of Brandy and Ivo. Ms. Arcangel has a beautiful way of telling this emotional love story. We are taken on quite a roller coaster ride of emotions in Moments of Pain, that you will need to have a box of tissues by your side. I have loved the Moments to Remember Series and I am anxiously waiting for the third book to read.
Moments Of Pain is a brilliantly heartbreaking sequel to Moments Of Joy by Ysa Arcangel. Brandy and Ivo are falling deeper in love and facing her illness together. Brandy has an experimental surgery to cure of this awful disease. While the surgery seems to have worked, Brandy has lost her memories from after she was 16.
It is so heartbreaking to read Ivo’s perspective and how brave he is to let Brandy deal with things at her own pace while dealing with his own pain. When we get to Brandy’s perspective, she has to learn of what has happened in her life all over again and try and rediscover herself.
I have read the first in this series and was gripped and intrigued by where this story was going. This second instalment is truly harrowing and gripping as it is so beautifully, honestly and rawly written. It has, like the first, left me intrigued and desperate to know what happens next. The story is far from predictable so anything could happen. It is truly a book of all kinds of feels and I enjoyed it more than the first.
Ivo is just the most amazing man and he loves Brandy to the moon and back so when she doesn't remember him it is so brutally heart shattering. When Brandy discovers just who Ivo really is and her feelings and thoughts are described you really do feel for her.
This series is a must read for all. Tackling a subject like this has to be difficult but it is done in these books with such honesty and care.
Ysa sure knows how to draw you in with this series. I was hooked with the first one, but now I'm dying to know what's going to happen next with Brandy and Ivo. Their lives have been so messed up most of their lives. With Brandy's sickness and Ivo dealing with first his father's dementia and now hers as well, I'm so in love with him myself. He's so strong and patient. Having dealt with it before myself, I know the struggles and seeing how much he hurts, but refuses to give up makes him even more enduring. Brandy is struggling with life after her surgery, and after the surprise they received this time, she's struggling even more. I honestly cannot stand his mother and I'm surprised Brandy hasn't gone off on her yet, but she's more like the timid old Brandy of her youth now and is trying to keep the piece with Ivo. I cannot wait until the next book...keep up the great work! I'm voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.
I just finished reading Moments of Pain. This is the second book in the “Moments to Remember” series.
Imagine waking up in a hospital bed, surrounded by doctors and hearing that one of them is your husband and you not remember him at all.
Surely you wouldn’t believe it!
But the ring on your finger says it’s the truth.
We are back to the romantic, happy yet heartbreaking story of Ivo and Brandy and let me tell you, the second part will not disappoint!
As Brandy’s memory starts to deteriorate, she gets desperate to find a way to keep what is left of her memories. She decides to try a procedure that gives no promises, no guarantees, only hope.
They say that love can conquer all, but what happens when you don’t remember the love you had for a stranger? Is it even possible to come back from such a heartbreaking time in your life?
Ivo is strong but he is gutted to find out that the love of his life doesn’t remember him at all.
What can he possibly do to get his Brandy back?
The wind might have been knocked out of his sails but he will stop at nothing to find out.
I really enjoyed the first book (Moments of joy) and I LOVED the second book!
Brandy’s story is heartbreaking but full of happiness at the same time and it will most definitely get your own heart invested in it!
If for some reason you don’t have the chance to read the first book, I would still recommend you to read this one. It’s just too good!
Moments of Pain is rage second book in the Moments to Remember Series by Ysa Arcangel. This series should be read in order because this book start where Moments of Joy ended. This author has put together a wonderful cast of characters that holds your attention from the first page. This book deals with a horrible disease and the love of a woman who would try any and everything to save her life ahe their relationship.
Brandy Curtis has been struggling with Alzheimer's and she is given a chance to join a study that includes a medical procedure could cure her. The problem…. It may take away all of her memories. Is it worth the risk? When she wakes up after the procedure she has no memory of her former life or the man holding her hand telling her he loves her very much. Will she be able to find herself and their love for each other? You must read to find out.
Ivo is Brandy's husband and who has stayed with her through thick and thin. What will happen to their relationship now that they are starting over and Brandy has no idea who he is? Will Ivo let Brandy go search for her true self? Will he still be there for her if and when she is ready to come home? This is such a beautiful story with two strong characters that are trying to find their way home. Ysa has built wonderful touching story that left me highly emotional from the first to the last page. I highly recommend this series.
5 stars! Moments of pain is the second book in the Moments to Remember series by Ysa Arcangel and it is even better than the first. It continues the heart-breaking story of Ivo and Brandy as they come to terms with her final diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. Ivo finds it difficult to separate himself from his job as Brandy’s doctor and being a supportive husband. Brandy is faced with making a difficult decision which ultimately changes her life forever. This book cleverly develops the characters by introducing a more vital role for the family to play. The brothers and their families have to show a lot of courage to go through the horrors of their pasts to help Brandy regain her sense of self and this makes them more endearing and highlights the importance of a loving family in times of crisis. Ivo and his family also show a lot of support for both Brandy and Ivo in her recovery throughout the book. Even though Ivo is trying to maintain some sort of relationship with his wife and continue their lives as much as possible, she becomes more and more distant. There are lots of twists and turns in the story which makes it even more exciting and an entertaining read. However, there is good reason for calling it moments of pain which can make it quite a difficult read during the hard-hitting and emotional moments. This is a wonderfully heart-breaking novel and I can’t wait to find out the next stage of Brandy and Ivo’s journey!
Moments of Pain Moments to Remember Series Book 2 By Ysa Arcangel ☆☆☆☆☆ Second book in the series is not a standalone. You must read book one to be familiar with the characters. This is a beautiful love story around Alzheimer's.
Brandy is close to her family, her mother has Alzheimer's and is in a home. Brandy also has Alzheimer's and has consented to being a subject in a possible cure for Alzheimer's. She has high hopes of getting her memory back, getting her life back, and remembering the love of her life. But now she has no memory of anything after the age of 16. Her siblings are with her to help her remember her life before Alzheimer's. Will she come back to her life?
Ivo loves his wife and would do just about anything to help her remember the life she had. But she has no clue who he is. Even after she took off and had this surgery. He went to find her. This man is so patient and shows true love. Even if it means walking away for the love of his life.
Ysa Arcangel really gets you in the heart. Her story telling is incredible. Her characters work their way into your mind, and has you hoping for the best for them. I am enjoying this love story. Ysa Arcangel makes it seem so real, her knowledge of Alzheimer's comes out in this story. This is book 2 and I can't wait to read book 3. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I have.
Beautiful and heartbreaking story, full with emotional pain, strong love, lost, pain again and hope for happiness. That's Ivo's and Brandy's breathtakingly beautiful story full with ups and downs, endless love no matter what happens remains still strong. I totally love this book series and I highly recommend this book as a must read, but before you read this one, read book 1 and grab a box of tissues, because believe me you'll cry like alot no matter how strong you are. And now we have to be a little bit patient till the 3-th part and I hope that will be a finally happy ending because this story needs that. For the end I want to thank Ysa for another beautiful book!!! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
Picking up exactly from where moments of joy ended, we see Brandy and Ivo still struggling with daily lives. And when Brandy goes for a risky operation without telling Ivo, everything comes crashing down for him. She doesn't even remember him or the last decade of her life.
It's so sad to read how much he loves her, yet she doesn't remember him. But I guess thats what true love really is - he doesn't give up on her. He even allows her to find her own way, at his happiness no less.
As always, life's road is never straight or smooth and both of them are trying so hard to find their way. I really can't wait for the final book!
This love story keeps getting better!! Even tho Brandy's mind forgets who Ivo is, her heart remembers! This series needs to be read in order, but it will draw you in and keep you coming back for more.
Moments of Pain (Moments of Remember Book 2) by Ysa Arcangel is the second book in the Moments to Remember series. I would highly suggest that you read the first book before this one as this one picks up where the first one left off. This story is a continuation of Brandy and Ivo's story. One thing that I love about this author is the details and development of these characters. They are very relate able and will pull you into their world without even trying. They will take you on a roller coaster of various emotions that will tear at your heartstrings. As this story is about a disease that is very near and dear to me, I fully enjoyed these characters and what they go through. Find out how Brandy and Ivo's story continues and their struggles of life.

This is my second story by Ysa Arcangel and I can't wait to see what happens with Brandy and Ivo next. Ysa is a mother of three and a Spanish speaking GDS Consultant. Her alter ego is a romantic that melts over a tattooed, 6-pack abs. She has some insecurities but her alter ego is social and extrovert. They are both coffee addicts. You will love this next installment of this story. It is just as fast paced, engaging story as the first one. I read this in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. You will need to see what happens on every page of this story. I highly recommend this story as I know you will love to see what happens to Brandy and Ivo!
Moments of Pain is the second, heart-achingly good book in the Moments to Remember series by Ysa Arcangel. This story is beautifully written; my heart ached and then broke for what the characters were going through. But throughout it all there is still a current of hopefulness, courage and unconditional love that really resonated with me, first in book one and then through this story as well. As I mentioned after reading book one, I have family members who have succumbed to Alzheimer’s, so this story brought my personal experiences flooding to the surface. There is so much that I could relate to, so there were quite a few tears shed throughout reading this story. The author accurately captured the devastating impact that Alzheimer’s has on a person, as well as their loved ones. We met Brandy in the first book, where she met and fell in love with Ivo while on a holiday in Italy. Brandy had a family history of early onset Alzheimer’s and began to exhibit symptoms. Worried about forgetting everything, she started journaling by recording everything that was important to her so she could have something to help her remember. Sweet Ivo is a truly special man, who shows unwavering support for her and is determined to help her any way he can. As the story continues in this book, we find that Brandy’s condition has worsened considerably, and so her participation in a trial procedure seems to be the only and best option she has. But Brandy thinks the risks are worth taking for the chance for a cure, as well as wanting to at least try to do something, out of her deep love for Ivo. That’s not to say she isn’t scared, because she is terrified of forgetting everything- especially of not being able to remember her loved ones. When she awakens after the procedure, it seems like all her fears have been realised as she has no recollection of anything before having the trial procedure. What she finds is a mysterious man sitting next to her bed, holding her hand. Who is this man that causes her to feel a definite spark? Without giving away too much of this beautiful story- Brandy is set on a path of discovery, where she will learn all about her life that she can no longer recollect. What will she discover? Will she decide that the connection she feels towards Ivo is worth risking everything, just in the hope of more? Can love overcome this seemingly insurmountable challenge? You really should read this book for yourself, as you are sure to love it as much as I do. This is a really moving, thought provoking and interesting story that is also quite unique. I really felt for Brandy and what she is going through, but my heart really broke for Ivo because he loves Brandy so deeply and has to endure the added pain of having her not recognise him, or remember any of their life together. That is a truly devastating experience. But as always, his love and support is enduring- which made me love him even more. I can’t wait for more of the story to come in book three.
This is the second novel of the Moments to Remember Me series. This is the continuation of the story of Brandy and Ivo. You do need to read the first book in order to understand what is happening. This book will also make you feel all kinds of feelings. This is still heartbreaking but it is a beautiful love story. Just as the first one I was hooked on the very first page. This book is a little longer that the first but you will love it. I devoured this book in only a little over a day.
Brandy and Ivo is still dealing with this heartbreaking disease Alzheimer's. Brandy feels lost because her mind is winning the battle and she is afraid that she will forget her love: Ivo. She is so happy that Ivo is by her side through this hard time in her life. She is getting frustrated and when she finds out that there is an experimental drug that might help her she is all for it. The only bad thing is she doesn't tell Ivo about it until it's too late. Brandy feels like this is for the best and decides to go for it. She feels like there is nothing to lose at this point. The doctors even tell her that it could work. When Ivo finds out he goes ballistic. He wishes she talked to him about this but he can't do anything about it now. He is by Brandy’s side on that day but things do not go on how it was planned. Brandy loses even more of her memory and she does not even know who Ivo is. Ivo does the only thing he feels is best to leave. It breaks his heart but he knows she needs to find her way back to him and not be forced. Will their love find each other again or will they both start a new life?
This is an emotional and beautiful love story. This book tugged at my heartstrings a lot. The love that these characters have for one another is so beautiful it makes you cry. They are both having a hard time with this devastating disease. You will fall in love with these characters all over again. Brandy is so brave due to the risks that she takes in order for her Ivo’s life to be better. She is going through a lot and she always lifts her head up high. Ivo is so charming he feels like a prince to me. He is there by her side even through the hard times. The best thing about this book is it is in both Brandy and Ivo’s point of views. I love how you can read both of their struggles and how they get through them. This author has done it again. She wrote about this disease in a beautiful, sensitive, and respectful manner. I can't wait to read the last book. I know that this book will also be very emotional.
Moments of Pain (Moments to Remember Book 2) By: Ysa Arcangel 5 out of 5 stars
The story Moments of Pain (Moments to Remember Book 2) by Ysa Arcangel is a medical romance book. This is an amazingly beautiful second book in the series that had me from the very beginning and I couldn’t put it down until I had finished. This story tugged at my heart and I found myself overwhelmed by the amount of love and devotion that are shown between the two main characters, Brandy and Ivo. This is the second book that I have read by the author and I can’t wait to read more of this series and her other books as well. This book continues the love story from the first book and picks up after the final events. It is told from the POV of both Brandy and Ivo.
At the beginning of this book, you find that Brandy’s Alzheimer’s is growing worse and a decision has been made regarding her participating in a trial procedure. There are risks however it seems that she is willing to take them for a chance at a cure. Brandy does this out of love for Ivo. It is very hard to read about how she is so scared of not remembering those she loves. I find the entire situation heartbreaking. Brandy wakes up with no memory of her life leading up to the procedure. She does, however, find a man holding her hand. From here, Brandy goes on a journey of self-discovery and hopes that she will get her memories back. Her journey includes Ivo. Will Brandy’s memories return? Even though Brandy doesn’t remember Ivo she discovers she has a connection to him that goes beyond any memories that she may have lost. What does the future hold for Brandy and Ivo?
Ivo is a man that is in pain. He loves Brandy so much and hates what Alzheimer’s is doing to her, to them. I could not even imagine what he is going through with Brandy not remembering him. How will he deal with the fact that Brandy now doesn’t remember him at all? I have never read a book about the progression of Alzheimer’s and the toll it takes on all involved. This is a book that has opened my eyes and made me think long and hard about what I would do in the same situation. This book and series is a testament to the power that love has. I look forward to reading the next book. This story does include adult situations. It would be for those 18 years of age or older.
Moments of Pain (Moments to Remember Book 2) by Ysa Arcangel
5 Stars
Oh my goodness, this book..this series!! What an amazing story so far. I'm trying to find words to write this review to give this story the amazing justice it deserves. I'll start with you must read the first book in this series first or you won't completely appreciate what is happening in this story.
Brandy Curtis is being pulled down little by little by Alzheimer's disease, slowly taking everything and everybody she knows and loves from her. In a moment of clarity she makes a decision to submit to an experiment that might just cure her. She doesn't want to keep putting her husband Ivo through having to watch her suffer from this awful disease, she wants to be happy and build a future for them and have his children and she knows she can't do this the way she is going. With her brother's help she is whisked away to the UK without Ivo’s knowledge to begin the process.
Ivo Ferrero is watching his wife disappear right before his eyes, every day it's getting a little worse, he loves her with every ounce of his being and will stand by her no matter what. When he realizes that she is missing and finds out what she has done and where she has gone and why he is devastated but finds a journal entry from her moment of clarity and realizes she is doing it all for him and their life together.
As Ivo arrives in the UK he finds the experiment has already begun and the tests are showing progress but all they can do is wait for her to wake up. As she does Ivo has realized his worst fears..she has no memory of him at all. 11 years of her memory have been erased and Brandy must now try to figure out who she is and deal with dreams of this man that she can't remember but knows she feels safe when he is near.
This story is heart wrenching yet hopeful, I held my breath through a lot of this book. It takes the test of love to a whole new level. You almost forget while reading these books that there is another story at play here and watching that play out is messing with my head. I don't think I have ever needed the last book of a series like I do this one. Thankfully my wait is not too long. This story will stay with me forever, this author has done an amazing job and I will be reading anything she has to offer from this point forward. Read these books, seriously you won't be sorry.
4 stars! Moments of Pain if the second novel in the heart-breaking series Moments to Remember by Ysa Arcangel. This is not standalone – book 1 should be read first. When I read book 1 I remember finishing it and I was just truly heartbroken for the main character Brandy. Not only because of her condition but because the story felt so real it was like I was really reading someone’s battle with this awful disease. I just desperately wanted her to remain stable. In this book we see Brandy embark on an experimental study to see if will halt the progression of her early onset Alzheimer’s. Poor Ivo! He and Brandy are now married but with her worsening memory he is petrified that she is going to forget who he is but he still is unsure about the trial. Brandy however decides for herself she wants it done but when she wakes she has no memory of the previous 11 years – including who the man holding her hand is. My heart truly broke for Ivo at the moment when she woke up and couldn’t remember who he was. The tears just couldn’t stop. It made me think of the many, many people who go through this and whilst I always will feel for the person with the disease I also can’t help but feel heartbroken for their loved ones around them. Although there are plenty of sad moments in this story there is also this wonderful underlying love story. Ivo loves Brandy so much. He is desperate to do anything he can to help her remember and fall in love with him again. He had to step aside from his feelings to her and whilst eh does do something in the book that I didn’t quite agree with I think he was just so desperate to get some kind of reaction from Brandy. The book is written from both Brandy and Ivo’s past POV which again highlights the struggles of both the patient and their loved one. The author has truly written a beautiful yet heart-breaking series that addresses something that many people have and are living with. As with the first book it was written about sensitively and respectfully. There is one thing for sure I think the third book is going to be equally as emotional and I will have the tissues handy!
Moments of Pain is the second book in the Moments to Remember series. I highly recommend that before you read this book you read the first book Moments of Joy or you will miss so much of Brandy and Ivo. Moments of Pain is another awesome read which had me in tears in some parts of the book.
Brandy is young has her whole life ahead of her with her wonderful husband Ivo. One thing that stands in her way is her Alzheimer’s. While Brandy still had a lot of lucid moments she signed a consent form to have some experimental treatment. Ivo doesn’t know she has done this until it’s too late to stop her. Before she has the treatment, Ivo asks her to marry him again so family and friends can be present. With Brandy’s memory fading fast Ivo makes all the arrangements for the wedding, he only asks her the type of wedding she wants and her choice of dress. Brandy decides on a garden wedding which Ivo is only too happy to oblige her with.
After the wedding Ivo decides it time to take a leave of absence from work so he can look after huis beautiful Brandy on a full-time basis. While he is at the Uni he leaves Brandy with her best friend Marge. On arriving home, he finds the house empty. No one in Brandy’s family is answering their phones. Worried he goes to each family members home to find no one home, the last home he goes to is Gin’s where he finds him packing the car. After moments of anger Gin tells him that Brandy signed up for the experimental treatment and was now in England. Ivo is mad and Gin tells him that she didn’t want to burden him with her care.
Ivo makes travel plans for England in the hope he gets there in time to stop this experimental treatment. He arrives too late, so now all he can do is sit by his wife’s bedside and wait for her to wake up. No one knows how she is going to be affected by the treatment and everyone is just waiting for her to awake. Six days later Brandy is awake, the family is happy, Ivo is nervous as to how the treatment has affected her.
Moments of Pain is the second novel in the Moments to Remember series about Brandy Curtis and Ivo Ferrero following immediately on from Moments of Joy. Our two main characters are now married, but with Brandy’s Alzheimer’s symptoms becoming increasingly worse she takes the decision to have life changing experimental brain surgery. The surgery could give them the chance of a normal life, but could destroy the few things she can still remember. Ivo is unhappy at her decision to have the surgery and even more so when she wakes up with no memories past the age of 16, therefore no memory of him and their love. Can they rebuild their life together or can he let her go, knowing she was the love of his life but she will never remember how she felt about him? Is the spark she feels for him just because her family tell her she loved him or is it something more; a love buried deeper in her that her body remembers even if her brain can’t? This was another heart-wrenching novel, filling in a few more gaps in Brandy & Ivo’s story. I loved the sensitive treatment of the progression of her Alzheimer’s and the devastation of her husband at her subsequent rejection when she has no idea who he is. I thought it was a lovely touch to take the couple back to Verona, where the majority of the first book was set & I enjoyed observing the progression of this “new” relationship with its new ups and downs. I feel like there is more to tell on this story and I look forward to finding it out in book 3.
Moments of Pain by Ysa Arcangel is the second book in the Moments to Remember Series. I liked the story a lot but still have a lot of questions on how all of the pieces work are going to fall together. I was able to get some of my questions from the first book answered and of course there are now ten more questions to replace them.
Brandy’s condition is starting to get worse and it’s killing Ivo inside to see it happen. He is trying to take care of her while keeping her happy and not cause her too much distress, but she is getting to a point that he needs to take a leave of absence to take care of her full time. He goes to get the leave set up and comes home to an empty apartment, Brandy and her friend Marge are gone and he doesn’t even know where to start to look for her.
Brandy made decisions on what to do before it started to get really bad and those plans went into effect the day Ivo left her with Marge and had enlisted the help of her brothers, family and friends to make it happen but left Ivo out to avoid causing him anymore pain he has already dealt with.
The tears slowed again in this book, but not quite as much as with the first book, I think I was just better prepared this time. The story will continue in Ms. Arcangel’s third book of the series and I cannot wait to read it and see what happens with Brandy, Ivo and their deep love for one another. Their love story is one most people hope for but never have. It’s a once in a life time deep seeded love that remains no matter what.
Moments of Pain bye Ysa Arcangel is the second book in the Moments to Remember series. This continues the emotional story of Brandy and Ivo while they deal with Brandy’s early onset of Alzheimer's. Book one must be read first. Brandy day by day is getting worse, she’s forgetting where she’s at and who she’s with. These days are hard but sometimes the good days are harder for both her and Ivo. Testing is done and the results while expected are hard to take in all the same. Ivo vows to be with Brandy through everything, nothing can shake his love even the days she thinks he’s her ex-boyfriend. But soon Brandy takes things into her own hands in a rare moment of clarity trying to do what’s best for her and Ivo. But will this save her mind or is it all just a lost cause. She’ll do anything to keep remembering her love for Ivo and he’ll do anything to protect her even if that means letting her go. This book was even better than the first, the emotions were ten times stronger. The author has such a wonderful way of spinning this very moving story. From the first page, you are pulled into this very real life battle this couple must face, you root for them and you cry when you feel their pain after their struggles. This is the second book I’ve read by this author and she still doesn’t disappoint. I give this book five stars because I was instantly moved by this entire book. I’m very much looking forward to book 3 in this series and whatever this author has for us next.
I would give Moments of Pain a very enthusiastic four star rating. Her ability to deal compassionately and vividly with the tough decisions her characters are facing is amazing. Moments of Pain was truly a marvelous tale of sacrifice. How far would you go to keep the life and more importantly, the love you have known in that life. Ysa Arcangel has written a story that explores that possibility. She has written her characters in a very believable style. they are more than the cardboard/cartoon characters you sometimes se in books. Ysa Arcangel’s characters have a force of will and personality that is completely endearing. Don’t be scared off by the title, Moments of Pain is a sweetly compelling story that explores the possibilities of life. It presents an intriguing dilemma that is faced daily by so many. It also presents a solution that is very risky. Of course, the greater the end reward, the greater the risk presented and Ivo and Brandy grab the potential with both love and a great deal of courage. Alzheimer's is a terrible and terribly debilitating disease. Ysa Arcangel has described the anguish confusion and pain suffered by both patient and family with this horrible disease. Kudos to Ysa Arcangel for having the courage and fortitude to write two wonderful stories showcasing this disease and its effects on both the one affected and those caretakers that are trying to help. I liked this story and would highly recommend it.
Moments of Pain by Ysa Arcangel is the second book in the Moments to Remember book series. The first book in the series, Moments of Joy, needs to be read to fully get the impact of the book. The story picks up on the story of Ivo and Brandy. Brandy’s condition is worsening quickly and Ivo is trying to help her as best as he can before he loses her to the progressing Alzheimer’s. He stands by her in her good and her bad days. Brandy decides to free Ivo from watching and witnessing the progress of her disease and decides to have a surgery that will radically change both of their lives. The surgery does not go as well as hoped and Brandy is left with years of memories missing which includes her life with Ivo. Ivo being a thoughtful person gives Brandy space to herself to heal. The danger is that she might never come back to him. I will not go further into the plot because I do not want to spoil it for anyone. This is a well written tear jerker of a story about the power of love. Ivo and Brandy are realistic characters each fighting a horrible battle against Alzheimer’s. People with experience on either side of the coin will be able to relate to the characters. If you have ever love or lost someone with a debilitating disease or known someone who has your heart will be touched forcefully. This was a fantastic continuation of the first book and I will be eagerly moving onto the third book in the series.
