Welcome to Nowhere Island University's Hell Semester, where you'll be all you can be or die trying.

Nathan Jacobs was an average high school graduate from the Northeast US, albeit one who had no idea what to do with his life post-graduation. Then, approached by agents of an international law enforcement agency, he is offered a chance to be a hero. All he has to do is go to this strange college in the middle of the Pacific called Nowhere Island University and spy on it.

Easy, right?

Well, not if you're in the Academy of Military Science. The special first semester is designed to hone even the most hardened killers into the best elite infantry possible. The only way for Nathan to survive is to make friends and allies as soon as possible, or wind up dead.

Adam "T4nky" Sherman is an Event Specialist (basically that guy who hands out free samples,) and semi-professional author. He loves writing, and has been doing so since second or first grade. He also was sometimes that guy who actually liked writing reports, so I'm not sure you can trust him.

His first story was about a headless horsecat that had guns for some reason. It even had really terrible drawings to go with it. He's gotten a lot better at writing since then and decided to leave the drawing to professionals.

After multiple attempts at writing stories, some he's more proud of than others, he eventually wrote and published Glad You're Not Here, the first volume of the Nowhere Island University series. He hopes to write a lot more.

I have read books about wars, death, spies before. But Its kind of my first true action book after I finished Masoud Rana series (Its a spy series by a Bangladeshi Author, DAMN COOL!!).

Anyways… I was too skeptical about this book. Mainly due to the fact that it got no reviews in GOODREADS!!! I mean!! Come on!! How is it possible?!!!! And as soon as I started to read, I was even more confused!! The author is a splendid narrator!! The story was moving and captivating, then why??!!

Anyways, lets just start with my thoughts >>

1. Characters:

The main protagonist of this book is a boy called Jacobs. Think about a regular average hot headed guy from your college, who has got morals, keeps himself up to date with the world, witty, sarcastic and could hurt people if he have to.. He doesn’t enjoy hurting and he keeps regretting the ones he had to kill or could not simply save.

I have read a lot of books where the characters kill one another. And in very few of them, they remorse. As if killing did not bring any guilt to them!! Which sometimes astonished me a lot.

I loved Jacobs’s character building.. How he changed over his stay, how he understood where he stepped out of a line and how he tried to redeem himself. I can not talk specifically about rest of the characters in fear of spoilers.. But some of they are well developed, and rest are still secret and I hope we will get to know more about them in future books.

This book is a minefield of characters. As all of them are here to be a professional killer, you won’t really expect yourself to be able to sympathize with any of them. But you will eventually.. You will get child solders, para-human, psychopaths, ISIS.. You name it!! All of them with their different background stories that shaped that into what they were..

**Being a Muslim, I found it really hard to stomach all those Al-Qaeda peoples activities, specially forcing someone to be a Muslim. So I though I should add, they have their warped version of ISLAM. ISLAM is not like that. Please don’t judge us Muslims based on some peoples activities..**

2. Plot:

Its the plot that appealed me the most! Think about an institute where bad people from all the countries come to hone their skills to be a better(?!!) killer!! And an average teenage boy is sent by an international law enforcement agency for collecting informations?!! Sounds cool, right?!!

The story really was moving and didn’t drag a bit. There was always some actions to keep the reader turning the page. It does have some horror scenes, (as expected from an action book) so there is a *TRIGGER WARNING* from me. Specially the “Chamber of Horror” made my stomach turn :/

3. Narration:

The narration is full of sarcasm, dry & morbid humor.. In fact, in some really serious conditions you will end up laughing like a lunatic (well.. I did 😛 )

All in all I really enjoyed the book and I really wanted to keep reading. So I contacted with the author to know when the second book will be releasing. From him I got to know that, its actually a “WEBSERIES“!! Its the 1st book, book 2-6 is completed!! And book 7 is still on process… Click Here to check it out!!

I was very excited to start this book, but sadly it didn't lived upto my expectations. .
The book is based on an academy where students are turned into superior beings with unnatural powers like speed, power and stamina. There is nothing good about that academy ( it's on a freaking island ).
The school dynamics and faculties attitude was kind of disturbing and little put off for me. Maybe this book was not for me..!!

But I really liked Nathan, he was a well written character; funny , intelligent, strong and loyal to his friends. He was also a compassionate person, only killed someone when the need arises. He knew the fine line between right and wrong.

Plot.

Book revolves around the academy where students comes from around the world to learn how to kill with precision ( Al Qaida, Yakuza, ISISI and so on) you get the picture about the student body right and how much unstable and hostile the situation must be..!!
And then an American high school student right after graduation is sent to spy on it.

The writing was floating and easy and fillled with heavy sarcasm, which was a big relief in morbid situations.

I would recommend this book for all those who love heavy fights, blood, massacre and military sergeants.Just not for me

I read Adam Sherman for the first time through this book Glad You're Not Here (Nowhere Island University Book 1)- This is my first volume of his book series which I have had and I am interested in reading the other parts too. I could find fantasy hero James-Bond kind of science and super heroism. This book is something which I enjoy - dark fiction. The author’s best part is his writing style and I really liked the way he handled this story. There is wide cast of characters, very memorable, they live - they die by their own wish. The relationship between villain and ally is also pretty good which is the best appeal of the book. The story moves fast and it did not bore me much. Definitely a highly suggestive read.

There's nothing exactly like this out there ,it is unique, it is gritty, it is mysterious and last but not least it is somehow absolutely hilarious.

The introduction and the title tell you all you need to know about the narrative tone and the plot of this great series so I wont bore you with what has already been said except that this series is criminally underrated.

When I read the title I burst out laughing since it matches exactly how I feel about the universe created, it is the first novel that I've found that make me feel absolutely disgusted (not with the novel but with the atmosphere it creates) and then make me laugh at the same time.

In conclusion if your looking for a good read then please try Glad You're Not Here because this novel deserves more love. Thank you

Action packed, gun toting, fight night having fun!
Well written (though not necessarily something I would usually read, much less enjoy reading), the main character and many, many side characters take a lot of hits throughout, and trudge through the Hell semester to come out the other side - those still living, of course.
Overall, this read made me curious to find the comics/graphic novelization of this series. I think it would help to depict some of the wild scenarios the characters survive (or expire) through.
