When you have been hurt by love, you can build a wall around your heart to protect yourself. It takes a special love to break down those walls and enter your heart.

David is a sweet, chubby loveable guy. Having escaped a controlling relationship, he never thought he would be good enough to meet someone who would love him for being himself.

Bradley is a work-focused millionaire businessman. With his wealth, he could have anything or anyone he wanted. But nothing in his world grabbed his attention more than his work.

Love was the last thing on their mind. But something special grew between them when they met.
It starts as a one-night stand, but where will it end? With the lingering memories of his last relationship still holding David back. Can Bradley help him overcome his fears?

A broken heart can mend with time, but the scars from a past relationship can leave insecurity.

B. J. Smyth writes spicy, emotional MM romance filled with possessive older men, jealous lovers, and the kind of heartache that hurts so good. His stories explore age gaps, and broken boys who just need the right man to put them back together.

He’s obsessed with writing characters who fall hard, fight dirty, and love fiercely — often with a little drama, a lot of spice, and just the right amount of angst. Whether it's a hot daddy, a manipulative ex, or a jealous flatmate causing trouble, B. J. delivers romance that’s raw, real, and impossible to put down.

When he's not writing, he's probably plotting the next book over coffee, binge-watching queer dramas, or getting inspired by TikTok thirst traps.

If you're here for the spice, the feels, and the messy men who fall hard and fast — you’re in the right place.

I think this book is a start of a really entertaining series.
David in need to get a hot date meets Bradley at a bar. After some smiling back and forth they end up at Bradley's apartment.
Being satisfying fucked by Bradley, David wakes up and even gets a breakfast.
Bradley is a very nice man and just how David likes them....
Could and will they meet again?

Fast paced and enjoyable written super short story. Sorry to say that for me David's repeatedly saying 'babes' is a bit annoying...Curious where this story goes....
For now it's somewhat sweet....

Eh, it was okay for what it was, but it wasn't awesome. Basically, a night on the town and a roll in the hay. Toward the end, I wish the author knew more than just the word cock. I swear, it was cock this and cock that every other line. Can anyone else hear an echo in this place?

This one just didn’t work for me. I didn’t like the writing style (I think it was the tense that bothered me?) and I really really disliked the absolute constant pet names (babes, sweets, etc). I totally think this is a me not the book, it just didn’t work for me at all.

Sad to say this book was not for me. I understand it is the initial book in the series and that the characters will be explored in greater depth in future episodes, but I wasn't drawn to either of them enough to want to continue. I felt the descriptions of the sex to be a bit crude and was wishing for more romance.

It is interesting to have a main character with weight issues and I hope the author is able to explore this in the series. I appreciated the descriptions at the start of the story where David is embracing his weight and everything which comes with it

The story is written in the present tense, which is one of my favorite ways to read, and was well done by the author.

A fun read.

What I liked:
- a nice change from other stories featuring large appendages that are largely exaggerated
- David embraces his body and knows how to work it. The level of confidence is nice.
- David is quite erotic and crass which isn’t a bad thing I think it shows his enthusiasm. For sure he doesn’t have a body image issue and his confidence is sexy and fun.
- it was descriptive but not overly so, just enough to tantalize the reader but not so much that it bores.
- how it ended and it seemed like there might just be something between David and Bradley that will go beyond a hookup.

What I didn't like:
- the term "screech" was used several times it made me think of a bat or something you would hear from a horror movie.
- it was short and there was not real time to get to know David and Bradley better.

I would definitely like to read more. It was nice start to a serial if that is what the author is going for.

2.5 but I'll round up.

Points for being a quick read that I was able to snag while the author offered it for free. I haven't read much by this author and I'm honestly conflicted about them. They have a good, very readable style of writing with good editing to avoid any glaring grammatical issues. I just keep finding things I don't like in the content of what they write.

For this one, for me, it was David's being tipsy before approaching Bradley then proceeding to get drunk before they had sex. It doesn't really make the consent overly dubious because David was fully sober when he set his sights on Bradley, but I just prefer to read and, in real life, exercise more caution with strangers. The other thing that grated for me was the repeated use of "babes" as a nickname or possible term of endearment. It honestly just read as David forgetting the name of the guy he had gone home with and using babes as a generic cover for his random hookups. The way he's surprised that Bradley remembered his name the morning after really hints that David has a habit of not remembering his partners' names. I find that kind of thing disrespectful and would honestly prefer no names exchanged if the encounter is going to be that brief and meaningless. But this wasn't brief or meaningless in the end so the "babes" usage was just annoying.

I'm a bit meh about reading on. I dislike the little bits being released as installments rather than the author just writing and releasing the whole story at once. It feels like either a cash grab to put out multiple parts or a lack of confidence in the writing if you're releasing little bits to see how they're received and reviewed. Either way, as a reader, I just want it all at once with additional parts only coming if more comes to the author to continue a relationship, story or universe that they've begun. And I don't mean like a couple's second date getting a separate installment from their first meeting. I mean story one is all about how they meet and fall in love then a next part could be getting more serious about their relationship or breaking up altogether. Something more momentous than these separate parts have.

Here's what I really liked about David:
1.) He's not a gym bunny - he's young, fun, chubby - and seems to be your average kind of guy. I really liked that.
2.) I liked how the story progressed - it was logical
3.) Your sexy fun time scene was well done!
4.) The men had body hair. YEAH! Why is this so rare? Most men have it, and a lot of us like it!

Here's where I struggled:
1.) The constant use of Babes.
2.) At one point Bradley called David 'sweetheart' - and it just felt way too soon.
3.) There were several instances where I had to reread sections because there were missing technical elements (commas, run on sentences). I can forgive (and willingly do so) missed commas, etc. But when I'm confused and have to reread sentences...then it rips me out of the story and ruins the mood.

I understand that since I've read this, the author has edited the story.
If you're looking for a quick short read that's got some furry men, this is a good choice.

Another great sexy short story which could develop into more books!

David heads out to his local gay bar and spots a big guy in the corner. Bradley sees David looking at him so goes over asking to buy him a drink. They leave the bar and go for a meal, they skip dessert deciding they want each other more! They go back to Bradleys and he takes David down his basement to his sex room. David is excited to see a swing in the corner, but Bradley wants David now and opts for the bed. They exchange numbers with David hoping they will meet again and use that swing!

Excited to see if there will be book 2, maybe book 3

This is what I'm looking for when I want a short sexy read. Yet the author still gives us a good character in David. We don't know much about Bradley I think he will be good for David's self esteem. He thinks David is gorgeous. The only thing I didn't like was David's over use of Babes. It was distracting me from what would of been a great read instead of just good. I was given the privilege and opportunity to receive a reader copy and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review. I can't wait to find out how David and Bradley's story turns out.

Slam, bam, ...

Very short story. Friday night encounter. Lacks closure, character development. Moderately detailed heat. Probably a teaser freebie. Didn't grab my interest.

As I am a gatherer of books, I collect books and ebooks from a variety of sources: Goodreads wins, Bookhub, BookFunnel, emails from authors and publishers, and others. I do lose track of their sources. But, as a reader, I feel I should give an honest, unencumbered review for all I read.

A quick, fast paced read. It's a cute story that seems like a good start for this series. Bradley and David meet at a bar and hookup. They have great chemistry and I would like to see what happens with them next. I could do without so much use of the word Babes, but other than that, would love to read the rest of the series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

This is the story of a night in the life of cute and chubby David. He heads to his local bar, looking for a one night stand, and he finds Bradley, who appreciates David more than he is accustomed to. There is music, sex, good food, and the potential for more to come. I enjoyed this quickie (pun intended).

DAVID: (M/M Gay Romance)

I love this Author already. This was probably just a warm up, because there's nothing wrong with this short story! I love the characters and so far this is going great, David is a sweetheart and Bradley seems like he's into David, we're going to wait and see! So many thanks, Honey Bee 🐝📚💙🎶

LOOKING

This is my introduction to B.J. SMYTH. This is David trying to make a connection. He meets Bradley and they have a dinner and specialty dessert together. This is a lovely beginning to much more yet to come. I'm onto SOULMATES now. So looking forward to where this leads. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!

Great beginning to this new series from B.J. Smyth. David is a little firecracker that meets Bradley one night in the local gay bar. Sparks fly and a night of debauchery ensues.

Enjoyable

I feel like I might have read this before. It felt familiar. But either way it was good. I liked that David was a bit overweight and wasn't the cute twinky kind of guy. Would have liked to know more about Bradley though.

I'm sexy and I know it

I really appreciate the main character David. He seems very sure of himself and is not afraid to go after what he wants.

I'm looking forward to learning more about these characters

Very short but to be continued. I like this author's works, they are mostly sweet and calm, no huge angst, just romance and lots of sexy scenes with wonderful characters. This series is to be continued with me, David, who is recovering from an abusive relationship, is adorable.

I'm not sure why I thought this book would be a Daddy book or DD/lb (probably the cover), but it wasn't....oops. It's basically a story about a chubby gay who meets another man in a bar and they hookup (but it is insinuated that they will develop a relationship).

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a fun story. I loved David’s confidence in himself and how he loved himself for who he is no matter what. He knew what he was going out to find and seems to have found a bit more in Bradley than he could hope for. These two seemed to connect well and be great together. I am definitely interested in reading more stories as they explore their desires together.

I received an advance copy to read and review and my only problem with this is it was far too short. It left me wanting more, much more.... It is a very brief story of David, a chubby guy, who loves life and is the eternal optimist he will be someone special some day. If finally appears his luck had turned for the better as he meets Bradley,a gorgeous, manly man of his dreams.... This is so good... Give it a read, you'll be glad you did.

Short, entertaining read about chubby, loveable David who hooks up with Bradley at a night club. Fun and sexy. Hope this is the start of a beautiful series.

Only thing bad was David's insistence on using the word Babes every few words. Truly annoying and detracts from the story.
