I was happy to discover this book, it is a pure gem.

This story is about a young woman's struggle to come to terms with her Mother's death that seems to be a taboo subject for her.

Holly has had a few relationships in her life, and that is how she wants it. Her job is her main priority along with her Dad and sisters.

She gets the opportunity to work on a "Once in a Life Time" project that just could change how she views everything. Once Holly has met the debonaire Ryan - is there a chance of it all working out?

I love that this story is set in Sydney, I feel right at home. I would recommend this book for a brilliant read. Great job KA Sterritt.

This was a really good debut by an author. The tropes were familiar, yet the story was distinct. Holly's mom died when she was 15 -- on Holly's birthday -- and Holly felt like her father's happiness died with her. As a result, for the past ten years, she hasn't celebrated her birthday. She takes that day to let out everything she keeps in the rest of the year trying to remain stoic. Also, because her mom died of the same type of cancer as her grandmother, she feels like she's a ticking timebomb, and refuses to put anyone else through what she and her family went through. She's not going to be celibate, but she won't let herself get close enough to a man that he might be devastated upon her death as she believed her father had been.

But along comes Ryan, who awakens feelings in Holly that she can't just shove into a compartment. She tries -- really hard -- but Ryan won't remain just a fling. And that's not because he's even trying that hard. He, also, has his own reasons for avoiding commitment, and he has said it would be no-strings sex. Of course, any story where they declare it'll remain "just sex" is destined to fail in that regard, and that's exactly what happened. Yet Holly still fought it. Hard.

My heart broke for her near the end when I kinda saw what was coming. While I sort of understand the circumstances, I still felt very bad for Holly, but I was also happy with her in terms of how she handled it.

The story ended in HEA (a very sweet one), but it took them a while to get there.

I love to dive into books without reading the blurb, it's like jumping off a cliff, you never know if you are going to plummet to your death or land in a pool of crystal clear water.

Well the prologue of this book hit me full force, right in the gut.
Holly could be me.
Holly is me.
The emotions that the author poured into every word is clearly felt.
You cannot fail to connect with the heroine and that connection is woven throughout the entire fabric of the story.
Add to that the beautifully descriptive way that the author sets the scene and I felt as though I was living in Sydney Australia with these characters.
I want to jump on a plane and visit "The Hummingbird" and all the other amazing places that featured in the book.

This is not just a love story, it's a book about love.
Love for yourself, love for your family, love for your friends.
Both main characters struggle on their road to self-discovery, both have different issues that affect the way they view relationships and this aspect felt very real to me.
Does love save the day in the end?
I highly suggest that you read this beautiful book and find out for yourself <3

I have put off reading this book as I am still struggling with the loss of my own mum and felt it may be too much.

I shouldn't have worried, her pain is real and you can see the struggles that both Holly, her family and friends have gone though and are still going through but it is done very sensitively.

Ryan has his own family issues to deal with and watching their relationship grow and develop is beautiful, though not without incident!

The descriptions of the places are all very enticing, makes you want to go visit!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I think you will too.

UPDATE : I've just read the updated ending to this book and it is perfect and beautifully emotive. all the more reason to give it a go!

This is KA Sterritt's debut book and it didn't disappoint at all, in fact it was mesmerising.
It wasn't all hearts and flowers though, the story held a deeper message, one which many of us struggle with in our own lives, the ability to move on and not get consumed by the past. You don't have to forget but life does carry on and we need to live it.
Ryan and Holly both had their own issues and with other influences surrounding them they found themselves not on the same page. This is what gave this story a completely different edge making it feel completely believable.
I loved everything about this book.
A massive 4.5 stars and I can't wait to read more from this author <3

I LOVED this book!!! This was one of those books that really tugged at my emotions. It's a story about tragedy, loss, friendship, family and love. Holly is such a strong character. The events she went through hit close to home for me, and Ryan Davenport is totally swoon worthy. K.A is an author that i will have no hesitation when it comes to one clicking her future books. I just love her writing and stories.

This review was difficult for me to write because there is just so much I want to say about this book, but I don’t want to take anything away from readers getting their own experience when reading it. The Holly Project is a very moving story about life, death, friends, family, and the journey of one girl to discover that there is a difference between just existing and living.

I really loved this book and can’t wait to see what will come next from K.A. Sterritt.

Holly suffers a great loss at the early age of 15 years old. Loss always hits everyone differently, but in this case it had a profound effect on Holly’s life and the decisions that she makes in her personal life. She grew up seeing a perfect love story between her dad and mom, so after her mother passed and she saw the shell of her dad, she made a decision from that day forward that she would never do that to anyone. She would avoid love and relationships at all costs. But sometimes fate has different plans.

Holly has a core group of friends, Audrey who has been in her life since childhood and is like a second sister. Then you have Zara and Jason, both she met at the University, the foursome is very close and hangs out all the time together. Even though Holly has a great start of a career as an architect and great friends, she is still not living. She is basically floating through life and waiting for the inevitable death that will come.

When Holly lands her dream job and finds out her new client is the Ryan Davenport, she is floored and not sure what to think or do. The instant chemistry they have for each other is amazing to watch develop. The journey that we see over the span of a year for Holly, her friends, career, family and Ryan is one that fairy tales are made of…There is even a wicked witch known as Rachael.

Throughout this book we get to witness some very high moments and the lowest of the low moments for Holly, but we also get to witness her growth as an independent woman. The discoveries that she makes and the strides that she makes for her future make for an amazingly moving story to read. We get to see if two anti-relationship individuals can come together to make a future.

When Holly meets with her father at the suggestion of Audrey is one of my favorite parts of the book. It is so raw and heart-warming to witness the changes in Holly just from talking with her dad. When he explains to her that you can’t look at the end of life but you have to cherish what you were able to have, made me have to grab a tissue…

Holly’s father’s response to her question, “How are you even functioning? Because for eighteen incredible years, I had everything. Some people never get that – I got eighteen years. Of course I wanted more. I wanted my forever. But I was lucky to get any time at all with that women…She’s still here with me Holly. I’m not just functioning. I’m living.”

Finding oneself 4.5 stars

Wow. I finally read my friend Kate's story and I freaking loved it. The prologue made me relate with Holly because anyone who has ever lost a loved one, especially a mother can totally understand the emotions and heartbreak that accompanies you through life after they leave.

Holly Ashton has never fully recovered from the loss of her mother death. There could be a lot of reasons for that but one was the way she passed and so from that day onwards she's decided not to ever let anyone close to her heart. She's a successful young woman who's on the verge of achieving her dream project and that's when she meet Ryan Davenport who also happens to be the head honcho of the project that she's been working on. And this means they will be working closely for a long while.

I loved the way they meet, serendipity at its best. It was fun to see them interact and at the same time sad to hear Holly's inner struggle. She's never connected with anyone and Ryan poses a problem. Ryan is completely taken with Holly but he cannot really pin down what it is about her that makes her skittish. She doesn't ever admit the reasons why she's never had a serious relationship. As she slowly yet surely gets more and more involved with Ryan, she keeps insisting that this is wrong.

Holly slowly and surely finds herself on the precipice of no return and like always when she's feeling cornered she makes glib remarks which starts off the end of something beautiful. Will Holly recover from her childhood trauma of losing her mom and be able to move on in life and believe that she too can have a happy and loving life? Or will she stifle herself so that nothing ever hurts her or the people she loves the most.

So far she's come the distance with one thought in her head, one small step and breath at a time. I totally hope so cos this beautiful girl deserves her happy ending. To find out grab your copy of The Holly Project which is on sale until May 24, 2015.

Absolutely adored this book!! The prologue alone sucked me in. Holly is a strong heroine that has dealt the best she can with her mother's death. The author had me right there with her during her thought process. Made me tear up!! I love that Holly was a strong independent woman that didn't 'have-to-have' Ryan. I enjoyed the little sarcasm jabs, the other characters in the book - Holly ' s friends were cute as could be and really support her with sincere female stength. Ryan Davenport was a great lead character to enjoy all the way through!! Fun, cute read that brought me out of another book funk!! Hoping there may be some more to add....like a series with Jase?? I'd really like him to find someien, maybe Ryan's sister!!!!

A quick read about a broken girl and a kinda broken guy. What I don't get with some people is this whole can't have a relationship because of bad role models with their parents. In real life there are people who are fantastic parents whose kids never have relationships then there are people who have abysmal parenting that go on to have happy and healthy relationships. It just like a flimsy cop out and a weak conflict.

The heroine however had what she considers to be a emotional block based on losing her mum so young at an impressionable 15 with a disease that is hereditary. That's a substantial piece of baggage. So I guess that strike one for the weak hero. So he has mummy and daddy issues that makes him want to have a sex only relationship with the heroine. She agrees because she knows what her issues are. Only after a while she realizes it's gone beyond that. He shuts it all down beforehand because he finds out mummy and daddy are getting a divorce - boohoo get some balls.

I can't fault the heroine in this story and I always side with the ladies! After they split she takes the time to work on herself. She even gets to know her ex's mum and they get close. They split for three months while he is in another country. He had declared she was his person but in three months he goes back to his ex. Strike two.

Strike three, well now that's because he couldn't shut down the relationship with the original ex, Rachel and does nothing to protect his rekindled girlfriend from his ex. You see, he seems to like to have his business mix with his pleasure. So although I get they are in love and get a HEA I just don't think he worked hard for it. Not. One. Bit🙃

3.5 ⭐️

I enjoyed reading this typical, contemporary romance. I felt it was a bit common and slightly predictable. That being said, it was still a good story line that had a happily ever after.

When Holly and Ryan meet in the cafe before her big chance at her job, on a day that was never a happy one for her, her life got flipped on its side.

I loved reading about Holly and Ryan’s connection and how they just matched so well like two puzzle pieces. The dramatic split frustrated me a bit because I felt Holly needed to give into her true feelings. But I’m also glad she was able to take the time to work through her issues too. I think that made for a better happy ending for them all.

Also, when you think they’re going to get their happily ever after, big gesture moment, the rug gets pulled out beneath you and you’re set to read more to figure out how they get through each of these twists and turns to come out on the other side.

I really thoroughly enjoyed the book but it wasn’t a wow factor book for me that will leave me with a book hangover. If you enjoy your typical romance that you need lights and easy, this book is a good one to pick up.

Teksty Ryana były tandetne i pozbawione jakiegokolwiek sensu.
Do widzenia.

Reread the book on 9-9-18

Holly Ashton lost her mother on her birthday when she was younger. Now she is older and is following in her footsteps to be an inspiring architect. Holly works hard and never takes a day off except on her birthday, the day she no longer celebrates, but mourns. The one day she blocks out the world and wallows. Except, this time, she cant. She has a presentation of a lifetime to give to Ryan.

Ryan and Holly meet and hit it off instantly. They are both struggling with their own personal battles and agree upon a sexual relationship only. Neither one of them believe in happily ever after, even though they are both falling in love with each other. They continue the agreement and keep it out of the office until they no longer can. Holly decides that she wants move but doesn't believe in relationships.

Ryan and Holly decide to take a break, a two month long break! (This part really bothers me. I know that they mutually decide to take this break to sort out their heads and see where it leads them but I struggle that they are both okay with it. This almost makes it seems as they are not interested in each other nor in deeply love as the writer is trying to betray to us. If they truly loved each other as expressed, they would have at least have some contact or struggle to being separated for that long.)

While it does end in a happily ever after, there are some things I personally don't like and wish they would have battled for each other more. Otherwise, it was a great story line and has a good overall concept.

Holly Ashton to świetna architektka z Sydney, z głową pełną pomysłów i godnym podziwu oddaniem pracy.

Lekkie pióro autorki dopełniało ciekawie zbudowaną fabułę, a nowo wprowadzane wątki intrygowały na tyle, by śledzić dalszą akcję.
