Fur and Fangs #1

Fur and Fangs #1

First of a series of Fur and Fangs’ novelettes. Moving to big, bustling New York City from rural Georgia is already exciting enough for country wolf Riley Evans, but it becomes downright exhilarating when she spots a beautiful woman in a yellow dress on her morning commute. The only problem is, she has no idea what to say to city girls…especially one that happens to be a vampire.

3.75 Stars. This is a sexy but also sweet vampire and werewolf romance. I have only read a few installments of this short novella series, but I am hooked already. This is a 10-part series that you can buy/read one part at a time, or you can buy all 10 parts at quite the reduction in cost. What I did and would personally recommend it to visit the publisher’s website Desert Palm Press and download at least the first part for free (sometimes they have more parts for free in their free reads section) to see if the series is for you.

This is a cute teaser more than anything...

Magdon is a consistently good writer that likes to experiment with gender, ethnicities, species, and erotica, often with a hint of bdsm...and she's always big on a person's personal pace and consent.

"Fur and Fangs" is a short story (35 pages) kicking off a new paranormal series involving an interracial, interspecies relationship between a werewolf and a vampire. The author skillfully delivers an awkward but mutual attraction between a young, geeky werewolf and a sophisticated, older vampire.

There's a budding romance here and an erotica element towards the end. Because it's so short, the erotic piece didn't have the delivery Magdon's other stories do but the cute story and character development is there and I want more already.

I'm curious where this will go and will happily continue to follow the series.

A short Novella (is that redundant?) that is a first in a series. The setting is NYC in a world that paranormal creatures such as werewolves, vampires, faires, etc. walk, live and work in the open along side of humans. With the amount of non-humans, you've got to think humans are the minority in this world.

It was a good, enjoyable story with interesting world building and characters. It was just too short. It sounds like it will be a series of novellas. I've begun to dislike series that are written in this manner. I assume it generates more money for the author so I won't begrudge them that. However to read a series of novellas separated by months in between is just annoying to this reader. Not that it will stop me from picking up the next book.

Cute vampire and werewolf romance! The adorable cover art attracted me, it reminded me a bit of a post I saw on tumblr once about a vampire hookup. I liked that in addition to the species difference there was a bit of area-difference with Riley being from Georgia and struggling with her accent. I also liked the worldbuilding that went on between the lines, with all the trivia about the different species mixing. Reading about sex doesn't do much for me, so I can't judge much on the hotness content, but it seemed well-written enough. Definitely a fun story!

This is a really sweet, short story about a werewolf (more of a puppy), Riley, who develops a crush on a vampire (a total vamp), Isabeau, on their train ride to work in the morning. It's funny, sexy and well-written. The other characters are entertaining too. I swear I've had at least two Mr Mrglsptz's as demon bosses.

Rae D. Magdon packs a lot of sizzle in this short story. I have to admit that I was not expecting so much sizzle in a quirky romance. Riley is new to the city and loves to watch people. Then all of sudden she is the one being watched back and it is so much fun.

I love the body positivity and styling of Isabeau. I want to dress like her. She is the opposite of Riley and it is beyond cute when they are together.

Fur and Fangs is a quick down and dirty beginning to Riley and Isabeau and I already want more.

Want to read something that’s cute, funny, romantic, and really pretty sexy? This is for you. Written in small easy to manage chapters this had me laughing out loud a few times, and I definitely would not have been able to read elements of it in public without being bright red either. Really a great combination between funny and sexy as books go. Would love to read more about these two characters as they were so enjoyable. A quick and easy read that will make you smile.

Big fan of RDM. I enjoyed this first book, I will say I would like to have seen (read) a bit more interaction between the two characters before they "got down to business". I guess I'm just a sucker for drawn out romances, but a good read over all. I look forward to reading "Fur and Fangs #2".

Think Zootopia. Okay, now nix the animals and replace them with humans + all manner of supernatural creatures, and you've got the gist of the setting of this beautiful, funny, passionate, lighthearted, validating, sex-positive series. You can always kind of tell if an author is having fun while they're writing something... and this book? My friends, Rae was clearly having fun.

Take your tired old Werewolf vs. Vampire trope. Okay, now throw it out the window and replace it with the werewolf and vampire actually being a little more complex than that. They're people with unique wants and needs. They're people with emotional and personal histories that haven't always been "smooth sailing," as it were. The protagonists are not just their supernatural aspects, their gender/sexual orientations, their skin colors, etc. They're not reduced to just those things they're "supposed" to be according to pop culture, but at the same time, the author doesn't try to be colorblind, either. These characters are indeed more than the sum of their parts, but every part still receives its due respect. That reason alone should be enough to pick this series up, but there's so much more on offer here.

It's subversive. It's silly. It's conscientious. It's hot. Are you sick of whitewashed fiction? Read this book. Do you want an affirmative, respectful portrayal of a strong effeminate Black protagonist (that also never compares her skin color to food)? Read this book. Do you want to watch someone take their first steps outside of the gender binary and not feel incredibly depressed the whole time (or see it constantly depicted as "wrong")? Read this book. Do you want to read about two people who are socially intelligent enough to practice safe dating? Read this book, fam.

This is what queer adult fiction needs to be. The sex scenes feel safe, and I mean for both the characters and the readers! There's a moment of consent at every step. It's informed. Nothing is uncomfortable, cringy, or weird. The characters are actually interested in each other (as opposed to just wanting That One Thing). The author actually knows the, ahem, logistics of what she's writing. In other words, friends, you can and should let yourselves get immersed. Get into it! No need to steel yourselves for the cringe moment. It won't come.

This book is a gem. This series is a gem. Read it. You won't be sorry.

First story I read from this author. (I might have read some Clexa Fanfiction from her but as it's not a fandom I usually follow, I tend to pay less attention and can't remember for sure)

I chose this one to see if I enjoyed her writing style for 2 reasons :
- length : It's a short story (less than 30 pages on the pdf version) and I currently not in a right state of mind to invest myself in much more.
- theme : I'm familiar with paranormal romance and it was a safe bet that I would enjoy some werewolves & vampires action.

And enjoyed it, I really did !
@I love the humor. ( A BluddBubble! Extra oxygen included! gum, anyone ?)
@The Unconventional characters. Helplessly timid werewolf lesbian turned giddy puppy who is jonesing to drop to all fours and chase {her} tail for a while. . X . The colorfully dressed, curvy, dark skinned vampire !
@A thoughtfully built background featuring multiple species : Satyr; selkie; of course Mr Mrglsptz would be a demon. Can't believe I missed this when first seeing the name !; and a centaur in the extra-wide seating section
@The pace is just right. Fast (30 pages remember) but not rushed.
@Ice on the cake is a believable/sensible/steamy sex scene.

I wasn't expecting so much from a short story. Magdon seems truly gifted for rendering well structured, unconventional world in just a few words. I haven't read scifi & fantasy for a while but I'll try her books as soon as my mind's fit enough for it. In the meantime, I'll be reading all the Fur & Fangs series for sure !
A new favorite. Will reread.

PS: Accurate cover. Always a bonus

Fur and Fangs #1 is a fun introduction to werewolf Riley, vampire Isabeau and the paranormal world in which they reside; otherwise known as New York City. By the end of this first novella, it is clear that the main characters are sexually compatible. Beyond that there is much to learn. Presumably the reader will have an opportunity to learn more in the following installments.

Short and sweet lesbian paranormal romance with erotic content. It's all too common to see people venture into this genre without actual writing skill, and I'm happy to report Magdon's style is both effortless and cheeky in equal measure.

If you are interested in queer fantasy with well-written, likeable characters, an interresting world building and really good erotic stuff, than fur and fangs should be on your must-read list. I enjoyed reading it immensely and I can't wait to read Rae D. Magdons other books.

This is a quick, entertaining story that's full of diversity. I'm a little behind on my mythical creatures, so I had to lookup words such as selkies and succubi. Izzy and Riley make a sweet couple and I look forward to finishing the series.

A fun, hot, country bumpkin meets city girl with a twist.

SEven with a cliche subject, there's enough world building fun and hot sex to make this an enjoyable quick read and the paranormal aspect is fun. Makes it a little different.

It's always nice to read about how someone who is insecure about their body finds a partner who accepts and appreciates their attributes.
