As a recent college graduate, Simkha Blank had boundless ambition but little direction until poker caught her interest. She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder just months before she set foot in a casino for the first time. In this memoir, Blank recounts her twin pursuits of poker success and mood stability and the ways in which they intertwined.
Great read. I finished it in two days. I would have read it faster if I wasn't busy with other stuff. Reading about how Simkha coped with manic-depression was riveting, and that's not easy for a writer to pull off! This book also reads as an adventure involving poker, personal relationships, family drama, and travel. When it comes to relationships, Simkha's most natural connection might be with the English language.
Author is very revealing and explains her condition accurately and unusually well. If your bipolar you'll know what I mean This should be a mandatory read for those entering the mental health industry and a great read for all fans of a good biography
Fast-read. Brutally honest insights into a life in this complicated world. Thank you for sharing your story and pain. I am glad you have found a way to overcome your challenges and to succeed in both world of poker and writing.
