Game Plan

Rate this book
Recently divorced after seventeen years with an uptight, controlling man, forty-year-old Andie is definitely ready for some casual, sexy fun when a hot younger man “accidentally” hits her with a baseball. Mason’s interest is clear and he looks like a lot more fun than her overworked vibrator collection, so she goes for it, despite the obvious age gap. The young veterinarian is as easy to be with as he is on the eyes, making him an ideal summer diversion and the perfect man to help her make up for lost time between the sheets. Mason had to meet the sexy woman at the ball diamond. The chemistry between them is instant and completely addictive. Andie is more than beautiful, she’s uninhibited and independent—totally unlike the needy twenty-somethings he’s been dating since his ex-fiancée deceived him five years ago. And yeah, Andie is ten years older than him, big deal. The more they’re together, the more his heart wants her as badly as his body. Too bad Andie isn’t playing for keeps.

**** 4 Smut-tastic stars****

This is my third book by Karla Doyle this month, and I have enjoyed all three of them. Sometimes you just click with an author, and with Ms. Doyle, I love her sense of humor and the characters she creates.

I have to admit, even though all of her books are sexy, this one for me was straight up smut. I kept thinking about Ansel from Sweet Filthy Boy, and the cast for his penis. I'm pretty sure Mason is going to need one of those. It's fine though, my next book isn't a romance, so this will tide me over! I love older woman/ younger man stories and this was a fun one.

I loved Mason and wish I could have his babies, but my friend Ada already claimed them:(

Read her entertaining, man candy filled review here! :)

The reason that I started reading this book is because I got it in my mail one day and it said on the cover: “Dear Ada, I wrote this book especially for you, I know you’ll going to love it. Karla Doyle xoxo” And then I woke up… Oh man!!! That happens to me every time :P . Oh well (a girl can dream, and it really made me feel that way, too), but I did love this book from top to bottom, from first page to last, from beginning to end… you get me, right?!

And the main reason of me loving it so much has a name… Mason Lang.

Even his name is sweet and sexy. *faints*

When I met him, I was already induced with Travis hormonal urges ( from Karla Doyle’s other book: More Than Words) so I sort of expected him to be HOT and sweet, and an asshat/brain damaged kind of guy. He was all that and MORE, and by more I mean: sweet, intelligent, honest (no joke), did I mentioned hot? I did?! Doesn’t hurt anybody if I say it one or three more times, so…

HOT

HOT

and HOT

one more time, I promise… H O T.
Yeah… this kind of HOT!

But the thing that made me bump him to number one on my fictional boyfriends list is because he’s a veterinarian.

A sexy veterinarian, a sexy tattooed vet, a sexy tattooed vet with gorgeous eyes, killer smile and mad skills in bed (mainly :P). Yep, he’s my dream man. And how can I forget, he likes and wants kids.

The other reasons I liked this book. Wait! Nope, I LOVED this book. I’m not even going to mention the sexy, hot, sweaty stuff, because those are just a big fat bonus to this amazingly written book.

1.Andie: Oh, Ms. Doyle, thank you, thank you, thank you. You have written a female character that I didn’t want to bitchslap and I really liked her.

“Thanks.”
“For what?” Damn, that voice. Soft and feminine without being weak. She could read the back of a cereal box and he’d get hard.

2. The sense of humor of the author. YES!!! I hope in other lives we’ll be BFFs. This is totally me, my kind of humor. Easy, never exaggerated, smart and definitely made me shake off some extra pounds I have accumulated over Christmas and did some very unattractive snot bubbles from laughing my ass off, too much information, huh?! Let me give you a glimpse of why I did that:
“You have very pretty feet. Nice toes.”
“Thank you, I grew them myself.”

“Oh, fuck. Holy motherfucking Christ.” He groaned, then half-laughed. “I hope you’re not a devout churchgoer.”
She released him with a noisy pop. “Hell no.”
“Halle-fucking-lujah.”

He stepped back and she took off, leaving him scratching his head in a cloud of parking lot dust. There’d been times in his life when he was too smart for his own good. This was not one of those times.

God help him if anybody started crying. Yeah, he had a rep for being a sensitive male, but tears… He was still a guy, for fuck’s sake. Seeing women’s faces go blotchy and their noses turn bright red made his cock shrink up like a scared turtle. It was worse than a cold swim.

I can keep going, but then I'll have to quote most of the book.

3. And this is a first time for me… I actually cried happy tears at the end. Never a book made me cry happy tears. I read a lot of HEAs, but this one touched a heart string and made me tingly all over.

To wrap it up, this book and the author are:

Now let me get back to my horny dance:

A very pleasant surprise. I really wasn't sure what to expect as EC seems all over. This is in the "sophisticate" category, which I think means the older crowd? Anyway, the cougar trope isn't really my favorite so I put it off. Man, imagine my surprise when near the beginning it turns scooorching hot. I hope my 40's go something like this because it was hotter than a lot of 20-something erotic romance I read. Nice hot sex and lots of it, which just enough emotion and personality to keep it all interesting. It's actually quite long, but never lets up the hotness. Just when I thought that's all there was (and I wasn't going to complain, mind you) I got some lovely angst at the end. Well rounded, well written and really fucking hot, Game Plan is a prime specimen of contemporary erotic romance.

Having written a cougar romance, I was eager to read another author’s take on the subgenre. Karla Doyle knocked it out of the ballpark in Game Plan, her debut novel.

Andie meets Mason when he hits her with a baseball so he’ll have an excuse to introduce himself. A mom with responsibilities who’s just freed herself from a bad marriage, Andie is more than willing to engage in a romp between the sheets, but forever-after isn’t part of her new game plan – especially not with a man ten years younger. Mason, however, has other ideas.

Game Plan has a nice story line, witty dialog and hot, realistic sex scenes. I enjoyed the humor, which frequently made me laugh out loud. Karla Doyle writes well and with a light touch, making this story a pleasure to read. It’s five stars all around, but the exceptional dialog and smooth sex scenes especially stand out.

“If I tied your hands while I fucked you, or spanked your pretty ass until it turned pink, you’d let me?”

“It’s not that I’d let you. I want you to. I want to do…everything…with you.”

Mason is a young, sexy veterinarian. Andy is a 40 year old, divorced, mother of one. What do these two have in common? A whole lot of chemistry! Mason first sees Andy at a baseball game where she is watching her sons little league game. He immediately thinks she’s gorgeous and slips her his number after “accidently” hitting her with a baseball. Andy decides to go for it and gives the younger Mason a call.

First things first, this book is smoking hot. Not only is the sex HOT, it’s also plentiful. There was alley sex, car sex, back-door sex…There was a whole lot of banging going on throughout the book. I loved that Andy was confident in her sexuality. She wasn’t afraid to ask for what she wanted which is so refreshing to read, especially when so many books I’ve read lately, the male leads are the ones calling the shots.

Last night, oral sex in an alley. Tonight, screwing in a parking lot. To hell with clean and horizontal, she wanted to mount him right here in the front seat and ride him until the windows steamed solid.

And Mason didn’t disappoint either. He was confident, accommodating, and just plain sexy. His desire to have more than a sexual relationship with Andy along with his patience when dealing with some of her insecurities was very appealing. He definitely aimed to give her what she wanted.

“Harder,” she said when he backed out again.

“Harder.”

She wanted it hard, wanted him to lose control? Wanted him to own her, to show her what he wasn’t going to let her run away? He curled his fingers into the fleshy curve of her ass. Looked her in her eyes and slammed into her. Again and Again.

Now, a couple problems I had with the book. Maybe I am just progressively open-minded but I didn’t think the age difference was that big of a deal. Ten years? That’s nothing. Now if Andy was 40 and Mason was 20,maybe that would be more of an issue. For such a confident and self-assured woman in her professional life and her sex life, I found Andy’s hang up on the age difference to be surprising. And although the age difference issue comes up right from the beginning Andy doesn’t deal with it head on which was so frustrating. It continues to cause all kind of problems for her and Mason. The second issue I have is with Mason. The book ended and I actually was kind of peeved at him. One quick note, Andy acted the professional when dealing with Mason’s mom regarding the wedding dresses. No way in hell I would have agreed to be involved with that wedding. That woman was a nightmare.

I was still coming off a high from reading More Than Words (which I completely adored) when I started reading Game Plan. To say that I had a major crush on Karla Doyle when starting this book may be an understatement. That being said, it also means my expectations for Game Plan were through the roof. Karla Doyle is certainly a five start author. Her writing creates some of the best chemistry between characters as I’ve ever read. A lot of authors write sexy with no humor. Karla Doyle does a great job of combining both which made Game Plan and More Than Words such great reads. And Lord have mercy, the steam! TOTALLY HOT! All that being said, both Mason and Andy left me frustrated at times which unfortunately kept this from being a five star read for me. Game Plan was still a great, sexy read that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys well written steamy romances. I look forward to more from this author.

Another stimulating story from Karla Doyle! My two favorite things about her books have been the fact that she writes such strong sexual women and the dirty talk between her characters. Mixed emotions about the ending, not that's it's bad, but I feel sad cause I think they won't get to have tasty treats on the kitchen counter anymore, but I gave it 5 stars because I like flirting and she gives really great flirting!

When I read the synopsis I automatically think novella. For some reason, I just didn't see how the book could have that much interesting story to it... but I was wrong. I was entertained the entire time, flipping as fast as I could to try and finish the book before bed.

Andie has been divorced for 2 years and is looking to get back into the dating world. She isn't looking for anything too serious since she just came out of a marriage from hell but she is looking to have a little fun. What she isn't expecting is to find a young man who is as interested in her as she is in him. However, when they start seeing each other more and more, she starts to become incredibly self conscious of her age. Mason refuses to tell her his age, saying that it doesn't matter but she can't help to think how odd of a pair they make.

Mason was a fun character to read. When he sets his mind to something, he gets it. Like meeting Andie for instance. When he is warming up for a baseball game he notices her cheering for a team on one of the other diamonds. So what does he do? He tosses a ball at her which was supposed to only roll up to her, not whack her in the ankle. Even though his move wasn't smooth, he got what he wanted, a date with Andie.

I liked the connection between these two characters and the way the author wrote them. At no point did I feel like things were rushed. I thought it was perfectly normal for a woman to question a relationship with a younger man. After all she was married and had a kid when he was in high school. However, I did agree with Mason, that even though there was a decent age gap, they were old enough that it wasn't creepy. Now if she were 60 and he 25... then I'd be a little creeped out. The only thing I wasn't on board with was the ending. I felt like the obsessive controlling ex-husband gave up way to easily. He had been holding out hope that Andie would come back for 2 years... 2 years! He called her his wife when addressing Mason but he all of a sudden see's how wrong he was and apologizes for his ways and backs off. I just felt like maybe the author started to run out of time in her story and quickly threw that in at the end. Especially considering all the fuss he created over Andie. Regardless of that little bit, I really enjoyed this story. If you are looking a good smutty book with a good story to boot, than you've got to pick up Game Plan. I cannot wait to read more from this author.

3-3.5 stars

This was a good book. I liked both the main characters and am glad they were both able to get past their issues to get their HEA.

Andie is 40 and has a 12 yr old son. She has shared custody with her ex-husband who's still trying to convince her that her divorcing him was a mid-life crisis and she needs to get over it and come home to him. She's been on her own for 2 years and hasn't really dated and doesn't intend to get in to anything serious. When she meets Mason those plans end up changing regardless of how hard she tries to stop it.

Mason is a veterinarian and a good guy. When he meets Andie, he thinks she's great and is intent on getting to know her better. He has to make an effort to reach her when a couple mis-understandings almost stop things in the beginning. Mason is great starting out. He makes it quite clear to Andie that he doesn't care about the age difference and is very sweet and easy to fall for, much to Andie's dismay.

Andie is unsure about Mason's intentions and the fact that she's trying not to get in to anything serious holds her back. She also freaks about his age and shows some immaturity in her handling of this but thankfully she does get over it. The majority of the story takes place over 2 weeks where Andie's son is staying with his father so, with having constant access to each other, Andie and Mason get serious quickly. Andie isn't very forthcoming about her feelings but still is very affectionate in nature and deeds. Mason is more forthcoming and is patient to a point but he does start to push more of a relationship pretty quickly.

Andie, trying to show Mason how much he means, takes a big step and tells her ex about Mason so they can meet (part of the terms of the divorce) before she introduces Mason to her son. Unfortunately things don't get past Mason meeting her Ex and things kind of go to crap. Basically Mason had a seriously huge bout of relationship dumbassedness and causes heartache (big shocker on his actions, he majorly messed up). Of course he ends up realizing his deductions were faulty and he has to have Andie back in his life. He sets out to win her back and he does (although, IMO she should have made him put more effort in to it) and they ends the story in a nice HEA.

Overall I enjoyed the story. While I had some issues with both Andie and Mason's actions at times, I liked them and was happy they got together in the end. :D

I sucked down Game Plan in one day because I had to keep flipping the pages. It was hot, fun and sweet and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Some of the one-liners were laugh out loud funny and yet in other spots I teared up (something I rarely do while reading.) Mason and Andie were incredible characters. And oh yeah, Mason was completely, 100% yummy. Ms. Doyle really knocked it out of the park with her debut and I can't wait to read more from this author!

Fabulous, sexy, fun read with great characters and lots of sex;). I laughed out loud more than once and enjoyed that both Mason and Andie behaved like immature idiots once in a while. The relationship was well balanced, the characters well developed and three-dimensional and Mason was super-yummy.

I sincerely hope my 40s work out like Andie's;).

Another cougar. Well, I think Andie doesn't act like forty-year old mom, she's too brat, not my favorite heroine. But, Mason utterly melts my heart. Overall, I enjoyed reading this.

synopsis:
andie is hit by a baseball one night while watching her son play, and a younger, good looking man ends up being the culprit. mason did what he had to do to meet the gorgeous woman, and things take off from there. andie is divorced after 17 years of marriage, a marriage that wasn't the best, in which her husband was controlling, up to the point where he would tell her what to wear to make the best impression when they went out in public. andie can't stop thinking about the guy who hit her with the baseball, and when they meet again, sparks fly. mason has been through a bad relationship as well, where his ex kept the fact that she had an abortion from him. although their relationship is becoming more serious, when mason finds out something that it looks like andie has been hiding, he drops out of the relationship.

what i liked: that the age difference was never really a big deal for mason. he knew how old andie's son was, he knew how old andie was, and it just didn't matter. i liked that even though andie had been through a controlling marriage, she had a healthy dose of self-esteem, even if she also carried the baggage of rebelling against anything she perceived as controlling. i liked that, even though andie didn't like her ex, she never let their son see that.

what i didn't like: mason was 30 years old, and he listened to what andie's ex had to say about her...AND BELIEVED HIM WITHOUT TALKING TO ANDIE. that's high school mentality. even though mason kept saying he was mature, he really had to grow up a lot.

More like 3.5 stars for me.

Andie is recently divorced after 17 yr with a rather up tight lawyer. She is looking for some fun and to have a summer fling. Se didn't expect it to be maso, a man 10 yrs younger than her. Mason notices her at the ball field where she is watching her sons game. He throws a ball her way to get her attention and ends up hitting her. The chemistry between these two is instant. Mason is sexy, confident and and on top of that he is a vet. and you love him right away. I loved the relationship between these two. Mason made her experience and feel things sexually that she never felt before, not even with her husband. Age was never an issue for mason but it was for andie. He wants her to just feel and not be concerned with their age difference or the fact that she is a mother. I honestly enjoyed this book a lot, and thought it was a great concept. My only issue, and I cannot believe I am actually saying this but there was too much sex and not enough talking between them. But the ending was awesome. And definitely worth the read.

Another hot steamy read from Karla Doyle. Cougar type romances are a tough sell for me because usually the woman is more financially stable so the guy really has to have more going for him to be that Alpha male I like in my romances. However we do get a hot sexy as sin Mason and his determination to have more than a physical relationship with Andie was very swoon worthy. I wanted to conked Andie in the head a couple of times because she was the one acting immaturely in this relationship, but toward the end Mason did something very out of character, I as reader, didn't know how to feel about it. We did get an HEA, but I really wished Andie made Mason grovel a bit more.

While there were parts of this book that could have moved a little faster, all in all, this was a fun and sexy read. It's an excellent choice when you want something light for a rainy or snowy day when you just want to read and snuggle under the blankets. I predict that Karla Doyle will soon become a favorite erotica author.

A more detailed review will, hopefully, be forthcoming if I ever get the time to write one.

Andie, Andie, Andie!!!!!

She was by far my favourite thing in this book! Don't get me wrong, Mason was a good character and I think he helped to bring out a lot of Andie's personality, but Andie made this book for me. She was strong, daring, feisty and not afraid to be her own woman. Yes, she had insecurities, but she acknowledged and faced them and allowed herself to be happy and be in love.

I also really enjoyed the writing. Very witty, fun and funny. A great read by me!

This was a very steamy read that my husband reaped the rewards from!
I really liked Mason, a real nice guy, that was incredibly sexy. Boy, that man knew his way around a bedroom.
I kept wondering how Andie managed to ever get Scott to agree to a divorce. I thought Andie was often selfish and had a one track mind -sex! Actually, the story would have been better served, with a few less sex scenes.

3.75 stars. At first I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the whole cougar aspect of the story but in actuality it wasn't as big of an age gap as I thought. Their age really didn't even enter my mind unless the author reminded me of it throughout the story. There's plenty of steam to this romantic love story!

Ok. 40yo divorcee, 30yo guy. Lots of baggage, lots of miscommunication, got annoying. But I have to give the author props for having the couple screw up and then fix it by talking.
Two problems:
1) ex-husband redeeming himself - didn't buy it. I don't think he would have had a sudden change of heart
2) (spoiler alert) her pregnancy. Why oh why?

The more I think about this book, the less I like it. The premise was very similar to 'Liberating Lacey' which I LOVED, but no where near as enjoyable for me. I felt the heroine was so incredibly immature, and her self satisfaction habits were just a little too OCD. I had to skim through the last third to get through it. Meh.

Home run

Story was great. I liked how Mason picked up Andi at the ballpark by "accidentally" throwing the ball at her. Andi jumped to conclusions a lot when the age thing was mentioned or when Mason told her what to wear. Mason was great. Young hot Veterinarian, what more could you ask for. When it came to the sex between the two of them it was off the charts.

Aside from wanting to shake the life out of Andie more than a handful of times for her drama I really liked this one. The fact that Mason was sweet, hot and bordering on Alpha male was the cherry on the sundae.
