Breaking Rules

Rate this book
He's a hunky quarterback. She's a talented artist. He's sworn off girls. She's fighting to protect her honor.

Brooding, high school quarterback, Train Everly, was on the fast track to play football at the University of South Carolina until one misstep at a party put his chances in jeopardy. Now in his senior year, he's sworn off dates, no steady relationships and definitely no sex. The last girl he'd fallen for tore out his heart and stomped on it with stiletto heels. But a new school year brings new students and one girl in particular, Montana Smith. He can't seem to shake the blonde, curvy, and feisty girl who blows into computer class like a category five hurricane, causing his pulse to race for the end zone. Still, beauty, boobs, and curves are a recipe for disaster. He can't afford to hook up with her. Not if he wants to protect his heart, and his spot on the USC football team.

Graffiti artist and rebellious eighteen-year-old, Montana Smith has been expelled from high school more times her mother cares to count. So when Montana gets expelled for defacing school property, Montana's mom decides it's time to get out of the big city and find a southern sleepy town where Montana surely can't get into too much trouble. But the small town is ripe with temptation more than Montana or her mom even realize, especially when Montana meets the star quarterback, Train Everly. She's drawn to his sea-green eyes, and his quiet personality. What she isn't ready for is his moodiness that seeps under her skin so much so that she decides to make a fool of herself. But she'll take the stares and whispers over her pathetic performance rather than tango with Train's ex-girlfriend who will do anything to get Montana out of the picture.

As a relationship between Train and Montana ebbs and flows, both will be tempted to do things that could lead to trouble and broken hearts.

Intended for audiences 18+ Strong language and sexual content.

Pretty much what you would expect in a YA romance. Senior year - new girl - the quarterback - and ex-girlfriend and a whole lotta angst and your usual teen drama. I really liked both Montana and Train (and yes, that's their real names). Flip the usual though and you have Montana as the "bad girl" and Train is, of course, the campus football hero who everyone adores.

It was quick, fun-to-read (even for an old granny) and gave me the break I needed before diving into the deep and dark end once again.

Story line was interesting with some good twists.

At times I felt the characters were lacking in motivation but most of the time i could understand where they were coming from.

My biggest issues with the story, is that I really doubt that most of the 'honest, direct' conversations would take place. At times they became quite detailed and I found myself sitting there thinking 'who would really say that to their parent/friend'. These exchanges helped to quickly get to the point of how the characters were feeling without the author going into detailed mussing but I just found many of the conversation a bit non-believable.

Overall, I enjoyed it enough to keep reading to the end.

I received a copy of this book for free from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

Remember the gossip, the mean girls and jocks in high school? Imagine that twisted and amplified and you get Train and Montana's high school love story. An ex-girlfriend really ripped through Train's heart and basically pulled him away from dating. Montana has a rebellious streak that involves tagging, graffiti, when the impulse catches her. She wants to change for the sake of her mom, staying out of trouble and getting good grades, it also means an art college. They are pretty much the typical high school popular kids, he's QB and his friends are on the football team while she's a hellion and her friends are his friends' girlfriends. The good guy catches the bad girl, can they be a good match? Lots of fun reading this one as I remember high school and realized these rich kids grew up a lot faster than I did many years ago. Let's just say this is a bit sexier than most books about high school kids, very tasteful but leaning more to the new adult category than young adult. I received an advanced copy and wrote this review voluntarily.

I couldn't put the book down from the moment I started to read it. It is a beautifully written story that pulled me in as I was reading about the south and the characters were introduced in such a way that I wanted to read on to see if they were able to each overcome there issues. Montana is such a strong female lead character with her struggle to let herself open up her heart not only to the idea of love but the friendships she never has known and her relationship with her mother was something that I could relate to. Trains character had me feeling not only his struggles with his father and his football career it had me cheering him on as he tackled his own issues and was overcoming his own trust issues. I loved the humor in the book and the way they bantered was entertaining, I would definitely recommend this book to read if you are a Susan Alexander fan as she has done it again with a wonderfully written story.

I voluntarily received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

On her first day at a new school Montana Smith meets Train Everly, sparks are formed & insults are thrown. It's obviously that they are attracted to each other. But both of them having had their hearts broken are cautious.

Montana had a sassy personality, and wasn't afraid to say what she thought. Train on the other hand loved messing about with her, and pushing her buttons. When an accident throws them together, the couple finally decide to act on their feelings. Giving the whole couple thing a go.

Whilst I'm not a huge fan of high school books & all the drama that follows them, this book was actually very good. It kept my attention for the whole story & I actually found myself cheering for Montana & Train.

Montana is sassy, smart, sarcastic, and strong. She has been causing trouble and been kicked out of school after school. Her mom finally decides that a small town would be better for them. While trying to make a fresh start, Montana finds herself attracted to Train. Train is the quarterback and has sworn off girls after his ex crushed his soul. Starting his senior, he wants to focus on his game. But then the new year comes and so does Montana. She catches his attention in a big way. But Train's ex is determined to get Montana out of the picture. Will Train and Montana make it as a couple? Or will the ex ruin everything? This was a really good book. Definitely worth picking up.

I received an arc in return for an honest review. I do not give spoilers.
Classic high school setting which is taken up a notch with major sexual tension (and I mean serious tension), feisty MC and a plot that doesn't let up at all as it takes off with a flying start and maintains that speed all the way to the very end. I honestly couldn't put it down. I devoured every word, every look, every emotionally-charged scene. There is an epilogue but I got a so attached to the characters that, for me at least, SB Alexander leaves me dying to know what happens once high school is over and uni starts.

Adorable YA romance. He is tragically dumped and swore off girls during his senior year, so he can focus on being the quarterback and scouted by a good college. She is an artist was framed by his 'mean girl' ex.

This review is based on the ARC provided by the author and/or the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

i have loved the Maxwell series since the first word on the first page, and i felt the same way about Breaking Rules. Susan has a way of writing characters and scenes that truly capture you and keep you interested and Montana & Trains story was no different. without giving anything away, i'll just say you need to read this book. you need to fall in love with these two characters because if you dont, you are missing out!!

Life is how you meet it!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It reminded me of growing up and raising my kids. There are many people in this world and many people come thru our lives. Some of what they do and what we do may be already written but sometimes and with some people what happens and the mark they leave is way out of our control all the way around.

Parents think that teens live in another world! They do. They are discovering themselves and how they fit into this world. It is while they still have dreams they can do anything and are trying to make themselves fit in, before they learn they have to fit in and the dreams my not work in this world we find ourselves. There are a few people that fly above everything in this world but they need to have a special tether so they don't get burned up by the sun.

Amazing love story. My tastes tend to lean toward more "steamy or erotic" works but I cannot get enough of books written by S.B. Alexander as I am never disappointed. I was so involved in the unfolding love story between Train and Montana which took me back to my high school days but I can truly say, my high school did not seem to have the same caliber of boys as their school. This is such a sweet story of young love and the angst that happens when two people find each other but have both suffered heartbreak from a previous relationship. Please know that no matter what your level of "spice" is in your reading, you will thoroughly enjoy this book.

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is another amazing story by SB Alexander. I really enjoy her stories.

This book will have you wanting to pull your hair out in places, and it'll have you wishing you could go slap someone. It definitely made me glad I'm not in high school anymore and having to deal with stupid girl drama.

I do have one big issue but it's me and you know from the synopsis that they are in high school. I just have to picture them in college in my head.

If Ms. Alexander were to make this a series and write about the other characters in this series I would read them. Even though I'm happy with the way it ended. I can't wait to read the next book that Ms. Alexander releases!!

This is the first book I have read by this author. My review will not rehash the plot (you can read that for yourself) nor will I submit any spoilers.
This is an adult read. There is graphic sex, language and descriptions used throughout this book. It is well-written although I found a few typographical errors The storyline is good.
The reason for 3 stars is because I am not a fan of teenage angst. I know many will say I am a prude or not with the times. But I did not enjoy reading about the sexual nature of promiscuous teens or underage drinking. Had this book been set in college instead of high school, I would have enjoyed it more.

Montana was a sassy, take no crap girl. She was kicked out of a school in New York for tagging the wall in the gym. Her and her Mom who is a well known romance author moved down south. Her first day at the new school she is paired with Train who is the quarterback. Of course they both fight the feelings that are building. Train’s ex comes back and tries to break them up by tagging walls and blaming it in Montana.

The book had a lot of fun, drama and then of course the HEA.

Easy read

Love the Maxwell series by this author. This book was an easy read. I had expected a little more meat to the body of the book after reading the Maxwell series. Still rated with 4 stars as it is a good read. What's not to love about two people meeting and falling in love.

Train can give a girl whiplash, “what did you tell him? Are you going with him?” Train sounded as though he didn’t want me to go with Ferris. Train confused the hell out of me." Montana says the sweetest things to her man, “I would jump your bones right now if I weren’t tired, hungry, and waterlogged.” I liked this book, Train and Montana balanced each other out.

This was my 1st time reading S.B Alexander and I didn't know what to expect with the characters being High School students.
The story itself kept my attention and I really enjoyed it.
I DID feel a little creeped out reading the sex scenes.... though hot, It read as if they were older than they were.
I am looking forward to checking out more of this authors books.

Hard to believe it, but Breaking Rules is my first book by the apparently prolific S.B. Alexander. Based on this book I’m going to have to remedy that. Great characters, great plot, strong writing and an excellent romance - not even mentioning my lust for all QBs (Train is particularly yummy) and how much I simply “was” Montana Smith way back when.

Definitely recommended.

A romance all about the angst of being a teenager and figuring out your final year of high school! This book is jam packed with drama, lust and of course “cat fights”

I loved Montana’s sassiness and how sure she was with herself! Train I don’t know he was a mystery at first. I couldn’t tell if I liked him or hated him but I did love Elvira! She was the perfect sidekick for Montana!

Love this book. I grabbed it cause I have read several others by this author that were great. Now I am hoping it might become a series. I need more. Train and Montana have wild chemistry. It is kind of a broody alpha meets sassy heroine. Love the way the characters banter back and forth. Couldn't put it down.

DNF @ 60%ish. Honestly, I just got bored and couldn’t find the motivation to keep reading. It might have been the mood, it might have been the way the story was written, either way I just wasn’t into it.

Ummmmmm,

The heroine in this book actually got on my nerves.
Other characters seemed to be constantly talking about how beautiful she was, even the heroine described her own self as sexy.

The story was pretty good though, but the characters were very stereotypical.
