Alyssa never could have imagined that her first accomplishment after high school in a small Mississippi town would be traveling to a land she'd never heard of and ascending to its throne as the new Elf Queen. But when her long-lost father, the Elf King, comes back for his daughter, that is exactly the future that he brings.

With the help of her cousin, her father, and others, Alyssa carefully finds her way as an outsider through the intricacies of elf society. Along the way she meets fairies, unicorns, and other beasts that she'd grown up believing were only to be found in myths. At the same time, Alyssa encounters a mysterious cult whose entire purpose seems to be the prevention, by any means necessary, of her taking the throne. After an arrow that misses its mark and a message written in blood fail to warn her away, Alyssa finds herself in a fight for her own life and for those of her companions.

That magic exists in the realm of the elves is obvious to Alyssa from the beginning. Its use, though, is forbidden by centuries of elf tradition. When the Cult of the Wyrm finally makes its move, Alyssa must decide whether to risk banishment from her own birthright in order to wield the destructive forces as a weapon against those who would see her dead.

Join Alyssa as the sassy Southern girl enters the land of her father's birth and deals with a stern priesthood, a stuck-up royal trio, and, of all things, a crush, as she comes of age in Kiirajanna.

Prophecy (Elf Queen of Kiirajanna) : Stephen H. King

Imagine growing in one world with friends, going to school and finally graduating. Your hopes and dreams have been set and with your best friend you discuss your future only to learn that everything that you believed in as a child and your destiny was already mapped and planned out but not by you. What if it was decided or prophesied that your human mother, who was married to an elf king had no choice but to return you to your father. Never meeting him before and finally coming face to face the meeting was not only tense but also life changing. Some things were now out of this young girl’s control as her father, the Elf King, came to bring her back to the land of his birth so that, Alyssa Serena Miller, would take her place as the new rightful Queen. Growing up in Mississippi would not prepare her for what she was about to learn. Lessons in Elf, learning to understand their customs, ways and facing the fact that some might not want her to survive, Alyssa is about to learn more than just the lessons needed to understand the land where she is going to live, the language gaps but the history of a people and the reasons why she must learn and study slowly each step of the way before she can rightfully take her place and sit on the throne. Enter the Elf King and the history of his relationship with the Elf Queen. Note in this type of society they are just two people that rule the Kingdom and are not married. The Elf King is allowed to enter the human realm or world and choose his own mate, as is the Elf Queen. But, this Elf Queen’ name as all of the Queens is always Talaith. The truth is that a young girl who never set foot in the Kingdom before her 18th birthday gets to be queen because her father is the King. But, there is more as you meet the three children of the Queen who give Alyssa anything but a warm reception. The author explains how the queen is chosen on page 59 in detail and the committee and the High Priestess play a role in deciding who is the most effective candidate for the crown and the outgoing Queen gets to select the new king. There is a definite process.

Introducing Sephaline her ranger cousin who can sense danger anywhere and whose job it is to protect Alyssa. But, they bond real fast and instead of wanting her just as ranger to guard her they become friends. Learning more about her job and the Wolverine that follows her around BooBoo, you enter a world that is quite different from ours yet in some ways the same. The priests trying to be polite, leading her to the dining room along with Sephaline and Booboo, she is informed that her lessons will take place in history, protocol and etiquette of this new land. Magic is not allowed and we meet High Priestess that she nicknames Sternyface, who sends her off for her first lesson with five year olds, learning the ropes from the beginning. But, before she can advance she needs to get to know her father in a more intimate way and understand the rules and protocols of this kingdom called: Kiirajanna. A father who can feel danger, sense someone that might teleport into their kingdom or out and teaches her from the start that they have different rules for working and believe it or not everyone gets one day off to relax and have fun. Dydd Sadwrn or Saturday backwards is their day of rest. Their week is 6 days and one day for resting. They work five. How this correlates to ours you will have to read for yourself as well as learning the alphabet with the use of trees. Learning what is expected of her and having to deal with Sternyface takes its toll on her. Slugging the High Priestess bad move. Why? You had to be there when it happened.

The royal family of the Queen consists of two daughters and Prince Charming or Keion. The two sisters are perfect, plastic and snobby. One had a glare that would take melted ices and refreeze them and the other a personality of a cobra with tons of venom. The first princess of Kiirajanna is Princess Seren the oldest and the younger is Princess Meriel. Unfortunately, for Alyssa they would be in charge of many of her lessons and the torture would give them pleasure. Keion is an outstanding marksman and is assigned to teach her to shoot arrows. Resentments run high as neither sister can ascend to the throne but hope that she will fail. However, Alyssa is smart and they banter, argue and use a strong touch of sarcasm adding some humor to the story. Things heat up, as Alyssa is the target of three attacks. Someone wants her eliminated and will stop at nothing to make it happen.

Alyssa had one goal and that was to read and learn about the Prophesy and if getting to the library where the scrolls and books were housed meant leaving the safety of the castle she would figure out a way to do that even if she had to go alone. But, smart she might be but outsmart her father never. Sephaline and Prince Keion were her allies even if she thought he did not want to be in her presence. Protecting her was his job and Sephaline too off they went on their journey but there would be many obstacles along the way before they even enter the doors of this great structure. The Library of Alecsanddrha was impressive and the three young people had to think of a reason and a ruse as to why they were there. Pretending to be seekers or seekers of knowledge, they nodded to the librarians, introduced themselves but were they fooled? This library is not like those on Earth and once you are there you are put up as if you were in a hotel. Meals served, rooms provided and what happens will alert readers about just how dangerous things are getting and why someone is still out to make sure that Alyssa does not become the next Queen. Meeting Gethin and Lefan they reveal that they know why she is there and their reason for coming was false. Stating that the prophecies related to the Dragon Queen. Alyssa having a dragon tattoo and a special pendant given to her by her mother, which is hidden, makes them more suspicious that the words on the prophecy will come true. Will she be responsible for destroying and burning it down as it says in the prophecy? How far will anyone go to stop her?
Scrolls and books at hand, refusing to stop for meals she loses track of time and when she finally finds her two friends she makes one decision that might cost her more than just their lives. Magic is outlawed and in order to save Sephaline and Prince Charming she has to use the pendant or else they might die. Faced with this decision she makes her choice but either way what will her father and the high priestess decide at the end.

Four epochs, one library would be destroyed by the Dragon Queen. Would it be the one with the prophecy? Learn more when you read A Sickness Over Takes followed by The Power to Heal.

Author Stephen H. King brings to light many issues: Loyalty, trust, deceit, lies, betrayals, friendship and one young girl that is determined to become Queen but at what cost? Meeting the elves, learning the language and the customs we see many parallels and differences in our customs and theirs. But, one thing rings true is Alyssa’s spirit, persistence and tenacious personality striving to understand why a young girl still a teen was given no choice but to become a Queen. Holding the Draignerthol pendant close to her heart, reading the words of her mother and best friend when letters arrived, would she decide to leave and go back to living as a human or would she honor her destiny?

With guards all around her and one assigned to make sure that she is always safe, Aerona might not be someone to befriend her but will she make sure she will not get hurt? Tossed between her father’s request and wants for her and wanting to see and live with her mother, Alyssa has to make some hard and fast choices but not before she finally meets the Queen. Things change between her and one of the Queen’s children but rules are in place, customs cannot be changed and the ending will make you wonder just what is in store for Alyssa. Her Majesty Queen Talaith of Kiirajanna is quite impressive and their meeting I cannot reveal that is something you have to read for yourself and decide whether Alyssa should stay or leave. Can she adhere to the ways of her new Kingdom? Will do be able to endure the vision quest yet to come? Will she be able to rule and command respect? What will happen to the prophecy? Is it gone or does someone have it?

Prophecy: the story has just begun and the author is writing the next chapter in the lives of all of these characters hoping that readers will want to know their final fates. A great book for both adults and YA’s teaching respect, responsibility, love, understanding, differences in people, embracing learning and my favorite of course the love of books.

I got an ARC of this book.

This is the second book in the August indie author spotlight! I have been wanting read King since I first saw him at a book event, but I am always incredibly wary of fantasy. There is no doubt that a book with this cover would be fantasy. It was pretty and I liked the idea of it, but I was scared. To find more information about my favorite Stephen King, check out his website.

This book is very much fantasy, but it doesn’t tick the boxes that annoy me about fantasy for the most part. There is even a long journey to a dangerous place. Though King skipped the entire book being devoted to traveling which I appreciate to no end. There was some traveling, but it built the world and it really made the story feel more fleshed out. There was not a lot of filler travel which is what so much fantasy reads as for me. There was one point where I started to think that food was filler, but then it was actually important details. So every time I even mildly started to think that King was going to go too far into high fantasy, he pulled back and hooked me again. It takes a lot to keep me reading fantasy. It takes even more to get me to enjoy a fantasy book and want to read book two.

There were some issues I had with the book that were not fantasy based. There was some weirdness around Alyssa’s sexuality. At first it sounded like she was going to be queer. There were mentions of how close she was to her female friend and some hinting there, I got really excited. Then there was the talk about how she had never been attracted to anyone before, so I was excited for maybe ace. Then later there was mention that she had kissed guys before and then the love subplot. It just felt a little messy and queerbaiting a bit. The vision quest idea was just straight up cultural appropriation. I could be reading too much into the sexuality portion, but I can’t justify a white character having a vision quest plot line.

I really liked Seph. She might be my favorite sidekick I have read in a long time. I want her to be a head ranger or hold super high position in the court. She feels like one of the very few characters I can trust to not have ulterior motives. There was not a ton of back biting and royalty based nonsense that I find so boring. Instead there were cults, magic, and not magic. The magic and not magic had some pretty strict rules and they were explained really well. It was helpful that the MC was learning them too so it never felt like info dumping. There was never any info dumping. This world was built so organically that I was impressed. It is clear that King knows the world. I have no doubt that if I were to ask him what the other days of the week are called or how clothes get washed, he would know even though it did not exist in the book. The world is so full and fantastical. I can’t wait to see the other nations of elves.

I really got invested in this story. Then the last line or two made me so incredibly happy. It is a twist, so I don’t want to reveal too much. Just know that it sounds like we won’t be left in the dark for long.

This book was so awesome! I was completely engrossed in Alyssa's story. I have recommended this series to many people, but most importantly, my own 11 year old son. He began reading it on a Wednesday, as he usually reads for about 30 minutes before bed every night. He finished the book by Saturday because he couldn't put it down. He immediately started the second book in the series called "Trail of Tears" he is even more into that book! He has probably read over 1000 books in his little tiny life span, and he is very adamant that this is his absolute favorite book, and series. He even said it was better than a recently popular book that was also turned into a movie...maybe that is indication that we need a movie of this series too! 😍

OMG This book is so good and draws the reader right into the world of elves and fairies. It is written for ya in mind however if you are an adult and enjoy a good fantasy read than this is the book for you. I was gifted this book from the author , Mr King in exchange for an honest opinion. This is MisMousey’s very honest opinion of this fantastic fantasy wonderland story.

Mr King ( the other Mr King that is ) is able to write an take you places just like the original Mr King does. His writing skills are so unique and creative that when I was reading this terrific and outstanding book. I actually thought I was reading one that Mr King had decided to write for ya finally. That is how awesome this Mr King is at writing !!

He is able to bring the characters to life in such detail that you are able to picture them in fine detail right before your eyes. You can see Alyssa actually punching the high priestess in the face and shooting the 100 arrows . The way in which he has described his scenes is very remarkable also. Mr King has a true and genius talent for writing. As a reader , it was an honor to read this book.

Here you have a young girl who has been raised by her mother -all she has know is her mother as her father has been out of the picture since she was 3 years old. So as far as Alyssa knew her father was dead. All of a sudden dear ole dad shows up and says you are coming home to take your rightful place as princess. It seems that dear ole dad is King of the elves and Alyssa was born as a princess the next to be Queen of the Elves and of the world Kiirajanna.

Alyssa decides to go with her father to his world and take her rightful place. During her learning of the ways of the land and elves. There is some that want her gone. But who?? And will they stop her?? Will the prophecy come true??

All of these questions are answered and more. Prophecy is filled with lots of twist and turns . It keeps you on the edge of your seat. Will definitely hold the attention of the ya /preteen . I recommend this book to all especially the younger reader in the preteens/ya age. MisMousey gives it a firm rating of 50 out of 5 stars. The cover, blurb, and story are all so outstanding. They draw the reader into reading.

*I received this book from the author in exchange for sharing my fair and honest opinion*

As always when I accept a review request, I went into this book thinking I was going to like it. It was a little different than what I usually read, but in a good way considering I'm always searching for something a bit different.
I LOVED Alyssa's character. Her whole life is flipped upside down and she sort of takes it in stride while the rest of us would, honestly, be curled up in the corner rocking back and forth like a baby in a cradle. I also really liked how she had a sort of "southern" layer to her, reminds me of well, me, in that sense.
Another thing I found really cool was the society. The King and Queen aren't married in this story, instead they are allowed to choose who they're with, which is definitely unique in these type of books. Every little character made an impact in the story, at least from my perspective.
Alyssa is swept into this whole new world, basically, and she doesn't really know what to expect. Everything is different, and even more so for her as she is being groomed to take over the throne. There is just so much going on in this book that I could not put it down, it's actually a decent sized book, but I devoured in about two sittings. The Queen's daughter's strive to make Alyssa's life a living nightmare, all while real life danger looms in the shadows, and attempts are even made on her life.
I must say, this book is truly extraordinary in the world that King creates, and I honestly cannot wait to see what he crafts next. I could go on and on telling you all the things I absolutely love about this book, but I'll make it easy and say if you love a good fantasy-type book then definitely pick this one up. Odds are, you'll be as swept up in this new world as I was.
