I am Fury. Evil has followed me to Earth. I shall Protect this World until my Dying Breath.
When the Obsidian Empire obliterates the Star Alliance with the help of the Zarlacks, an old evil race long thought extinct, the universe is set ablaze. The last survivors are forced to make a blind jump beyond the outer reach of the charted universe, to a world teeming with life: Earth. The fleet's arrival inadvertently alerts their enemies to the presence of sentient life in that part of space, resulting in a swift and devastating invasion of the blue marble.
Under the guidance of the Olympian goddess of Love, Aphroditis, Lieutenant Chase Athanatos learns of his origins and must race against time in a daring attempt to save Earth, their Last Sanctuary.
With Earth now thrown at the center of the conflict, the newly formed Earth Alliance struggles to keep the enemy at bay. Desperately outnumbered, Chase and his friends must wage one battle after another while seeking new allies to survive.
When it becomes clear that his Fury powers are awakening, Chase must face his inner demons and learn to control them or he could very well destroy the universe he has sworn to protect. Can his Fury heritage and unwavering determination hold the key to change the course of everyone's destiny?

Aided by an abundance of Sci-Fi characters with supernatural powers, Bestselling Sci-Fi author Christian Kallias has a secret. He lives two lives. One in the real world and one inside his own creations, in worlds where he can lay down the foundation of his universes for both his and your enjoyment. Guess which one he prefers?
Christian Kallias is the bestselling author of the award-winning Universe in Flames Space Opera series.
Kindle Unlimited, tho first one might be permafree or whatever. Space opera plus, think that is the 'genre' if you have to have one. I liked it, it having a little bit of almost everything and even some humor although noticed one of the reviews {which only glance at and only after already reading the book} said might have been unintentional...but to my way of thinking maybe the reader just found it humorous. As far as things not being realistic or whatever, well it's space opera and we are not in space for real yet so who knows, besides perhaps the writers of doctor who or star trek or the like, I mean come on Olympian Gods and you are just at what point thinking some things aren't 'real' enough
Earth Last Sanctuary (Universe in Flames Book 1) Fury to the Stars (Universe in Flames Book 2) Destination Oblivion (Universe in Flames Book 3) The Beginning of the End (Universe in Flames Book 4) Rise of the Ultra Fury (Universe in Flames Book 5) Shadows of Olympus (Universe in Flames Book 6) Armageddon Unleashed (Universe in Flames Book 7)
I really enjoyed this series. A complicated and fast pace tale based on the struggle between brothers. The characters just keep getting more and more interesting as the tale progresses. The plot keeps twisting as the suspense builds. I found it hard to put down. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
If you enjoy sci-fi, huge battles, with a hint of mythology then I think you will enjoy these books. It is incredibly violent with the lives of billions at stake, but also encompasses individual relationships. Epic space action.
I am a friend and a beta reader of Christian. Since the beginning - Earth - Last Sanctuary - I find the story breathtaking with attaching and very human characters, a good storyline and lots of twists, space battles, dogfights and face to face combats to flesh out the great mixture of space opera and fantasy styles. Christian is progressing fast in his writing skills making the style more and more the one of a great writer.
Being a self published Kindle author myself (shameless plug), I have followed Christian for some time. With a gap opening up in my reading schedule, I decided to take advantage of his generous first trilogy for 99 pence deal and experience the level of writing that comes with no money, no time, no editor, and no publisher.
My initial reaction was one of horror. Corny dialogue, derivative plots, and fast food action. What had I done?
However, given its easy read nature, I decided to persevere and in doing so, I have come to adjust my first analysis.
It is still corny and little effort is made to craft strong individual characters: any one of a number of the major protagonists could be in dialogue and it would not matter who said what as long as someone advanced the plot. As another reviewer has observed, wrinkled old Admirals would not speak in the same manner as surfer dude pilots or fiercely protective mothers. Some deeper work on the characterisations would move this work up to the next level.
The plot is derivative but I do not hold that against a novel. Someone much wiser than me once said that there are only really a dozen or so plots in modern literature; the rest is decoration. A mashup of Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5, and Farscape, to name but a few isn’t the worst crime in the world if something original is added; in the case of the Universe in Flames trilogy, that is the introduction of the ancient races based upon the Olympian, Asgardian, and other gods, but as advanced technology races rather than deities. It has been enough to keep me interested
There is certainly a lot of action, with the body count putting Tarantino to shame. BIllions die, giant spacecraft are disposed of at a rate that would make the Flood blush, and super beings kick the crap out of each other, urban landscapes, and planets with gleeful abandon. In this I believe a major problem exists: the nature of equivalent scale. Can the more normal characters really make a difference when a Fury can chop a mountain in half? Christian does manage to compartmentalise character types into matched conflict but occasionally it can go wrong. He also needs to focus on differentiating his battles otherwise they read as being yet more of the same, when all you want to do as a reader is jump to the important parts.
I would definitely recommend that the first book or two be rewritten, not the plot per se but rather making use of the author’s improvement in style, something that has become more obvious as I have journeyed into the second trilogy. There is a readable series in here; it will never be the Culture but then sometimes all we want is a little mayhem.
If you can make it past the corn, and want a space opera that isn’t too taxing intellectually but which will keep you interested, you could do a lot worse.

This book isn't the type of book that I normally read and this is also the first time reading something from Christian Kallias but I have to say that I am highly impressed. I loved the action and suspense of the book. I have to say at first it was a little slow for me and I thought maybe that is because I don't normally read these type of books but as I got further into it I became more impressed. I loved the fact it has three books in one because you can continue the story without any interruptions. The end of the first book will have you saying "What! I didn't see that coming." The characters development is fabulous and I love Chase and Sarah together. For someone who never read any book by Christian Kallias I have to say that I will gladly read more of his books. If you never read it before pick up and give it a chance. It really is a good trilogy. I voluntarily review an advanced reader copy of this book.
"Most myths and legends have their roots in reality." This interesting, full battling saga, mixing man, myth and aliens is compelling reading for s.f. action fans. A little heavy sometimes on personal propaganda, for example supportive of vegetarianism, but even this can be amusing. Some humour, too, in the conversations and references. Great characters undergoing terrifying ordeals, and a background love story which might just save the world. For anyone who has not yet joined Chase and friends in the battle to save earth and more, this box set is the ideal way to get started. A very enjoyable blockbuster read.
An epic sci-fi adventure, full of battles, tragedy and triumph, so powerful beings and with a heavy dose of mythology. Chase is a n unruly but brilliant star fighter pilot. When a devastating attack destroyed the Alliance what ship survive flee to the unknown, reaches of space where they assist the planet earth is repelling an alien invasion. A n alliance is formed as an ancient and terrifying enemy returns and Chase discovered he has incredible powers himself. Epic action, lots of emotion and twist after twist. A well written adventure that reminds me a little of the comic books I still love. I am already reading the next one.
Not really what I'd consider a trilogy even though it's been packaged and sold as three separate books... for me none of them work as standalone novels with sequels, rather they are one epic story split into three for marketing / pricing reasons. Putting that aside, I really enjoyed the premise and characters, including ancient earth gods brought to life, alien races, space battles and personal battles. Well written and fairly diverting, though not quite in the class of the very best sci-fi (for me).
There's something special about Chase. Turns out he may be related to Riddick!! Great characters populate this excellent space romp which has everything from epic space battles to the birth of a powerful AI and Olympic Gods to Furies. All of which are tied nicely together into a satisfying storyline. Some dialogue is a little sappy but does not detract from the overall story. Well done Mr. Kallias!!
This set contains the first three books in The Universe In Flames series Earth - Last Sanctuary, Fury To The Stars, and Destination Oblivion). These books should not be read as standalones and this set makes that easy. There is a lot of violence. The author weaves a story of military SciFi, with Greek mythology, and with the "ultimate evil" behind the scenes. I'm curious to see where this story will go next.
I'm loving this series, and am right into the humorous jibes, interplay between characters with their hidden agendas, and all the seemingly unconnected strife involving battles both minor and major. The main character handles everything with overriding professionalism despite her priority to find her daughter. Alissa is kind, considerate, and someone to rely on. No wonder a certain strongman is lowering his guard when he's around her.
If you like sci-fi, huge battles, and a touch of mythology, then I think you will enjoy reading these books. They are incredibly violent with the lives of billions at stake during battles in space as well as on planet, yet also have the intimacy of individual relationships blossoming under extreme circumstances.
When I read the book's short story I haven't expected this. I'd say this series should be at least a half-fantasy genre book.
I mean, your protagonist can shoot a fucking fireball from his hands. Among other skills he'll master later
The main story is quite good, considering. But some moments and sub-plots can break immersion and/or make it hard to believe a normal-functional human (or aliens) should've done that. The space battle lacks higher strategics. At times even feel like battle ends that way just because.
There were quite a bit of (fantasy) fighting scenes and I kinda fast flipped the pages until it was over more time than I care to admit
The books also could benefit from another provereading or editing. I noticed there were quite a bit duplicate words in the same paragraphs or the same word from 1st paragraphs appear at the start of 2nd paragraphs (which made me cringe a little)
Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed these first 3 books. It can be a page turner if you're not thinking too much or want to find something to read between your other series.
Well you get what you pay for. I got this set and the 2nd trilogy for $1.99. I'm not going to finish it. I'm 13 percent into the first book and I've already had to force myself to try and keep reading twice. Not SiFi but total fantasy and bad at that. I've read some crap since I got my Kindle a couple of years ago, this is the worst.
I really enjoyed reading this book; I have read the others books in the series and have enjoyed them all. This is the third trilogy of books covering books 7-10, which I am sure everyone will enjoy reading. There are a lot of plots and adventure, in this books, and it is very well written and believable world.
This is a DNF. I love some of the author's other works and this was one heck of a great value but in the end this started with a Wing Commander feel and then turned into more of a Star Trek Discovery type book and well.... Life and is too short and too many better books. This probably plays better to a YA audience.
I fell in love with the characters in this set. The story is fantastic so will hate to put it down. But don't stop with this set. There are 4 more books after this set.
Too many plot gimmicks, too little coherent story telling. Couldn't even finish it. Very little actual story, this just lurches from one narrative to the next.
Exciting and very entertaining wonderful characters. This series is action packed and hard to stop reading. A wonderful mix of Space SiFi and super natural. I highly recommend this series to all space opera and sifi fans.
I can barely wait to read the next book. How fascinating it was to read elements of myth interwoven with futuristic science fiction! Definitely a new favorite universe.
I have enjoyed the first trilogy of books immensely, being a fan of Greek mythology. A tiny bit linear, but with likable characters, not to doomsday in the storytelling, but enough to wish for a better world. Well done Christian.
The series was ok. I did not care for all the different sub plots. Starting one thing then another. Then going back and forth all the time. Write finish it and be done with it.
I read the first book some years ago. So I decided to read this trilogy rereading the first book again. Did not disappoint great characters and action scenes. The main protagonist has a sarcastic sense of humour I'll definitely read the remainder of the series.
I would rate it higher if they was a way. This series were spell binding, I could not put it down, I had to pick it back up. Plenty of action with a beautiful love story at the same time.
I only got halfway through the first book. It was too juvenile for me. Space battle with afterburners and no appreciation for the size of space was a real put off.
