Falling For The Wallflower

Rate this book
Nicholas couldn’t think of a single reason a gentleman had not fallen madly in love with Lillian.
Is it possible that the duke has feelings for her that he hasn’t previously admitted?
Nicholas Davenport, the Duke of Elmbury is friends with a woman who is a wallflower. Despite Lillian Rowe’s imperfections, she is a loyal companion. Her companionship truly enlivens the Season for him, and her brilliant conversation sustains his interest better than the rest of the ladies in London. After spending time with his childhood friend, he begins to have a change of heart, and his true feelings can no longer be ignored.

”Nicholas found himself taken aback by his own thoughts. His momentary fixation with Lillian’s keen blue eyes, and the gentle curve of her lips, was unexpected. When had he begun to realize how beautiful his childhood friend had become? When had his appreciation for her charms developed this new dimension?”

˃˃˃ Will romance blossom from the warmth of friendship?
Lillian told him plainly why a marriage between the two of them wouldn’t work. But she could not banish the thought from her mind of how happy the two of them could have perhaps been.

“It saddened her to think of Nicholas wed, to picture him happy at home with a wife who attended to his every need. Doubtless when he wed, the companionship of his bride would leave him with little need to seek Lillian’s company. She would fade to the edges of his life, just as she faded to the periphery of every crowd she found herself within.”

I'm an independent reviewer for Romance Authors That Rock.

Nicholas and Lillian have grown up together. Now Lillian is needing to find a husband... And her time is running out... But all she wants to do is spend time with Nicholas but who can blame her... No other man has cought her eye... Not that she can even talk to another man hidden behind in the shadows where it is safe... Nicholas is tired of all the Mother's throwing their daughters at him... He does not want to get married.. he has put it off as long as he can... He is being invited to all the best balls and get togethers and the only one that he wants to spend time with is Lillian...

This is a nice book about two longtime friends figuring out that they really feel more than just friendship for the other... Would marriage to your best friend be so hard? Would it be better to have that than LOVE? This is a clean little story that I would recommend to 16 and over...

A truly awesome little romance. I'm a huge fan of this time period to begin with and to have a book so full of the pageantry and ballroom politics mixed with a delightfully different kind of romance was a breath of fresh air among all of the others! To show the friendship between perfectly upstanding gentlefolk with proper manners and just the right hint of sexual tension proves this writers skill! I was turning pages and laughing with delight along with the characters!!

As an independent reviewer for Romance Authors that Rock, this is a rare five heart book for me! Normally I reserve that for the Authors who manage to wrap me so tightly in their web that I cry along with the characters. This author earned it for the exact opposite reason. I was so happy at the end of this book, I laughed the next day even, just remembering!

Nicholas is a Duke and has a lot of pressure to find the right woman and settle down. However all the woman trying to get his attention bore him. The only woman he isn't bored with is his friend Lillian. Lillian has be out for several years but her shyness has kept her from finding a husband. She is considered a wallflower. Nicholas doesn't understand why no other man appreciates how wonderful Lillian is. As he spends more time with Lillian, he realizes that his feelings for her are more than friendship.
I really enjoyed Lillian as a character. She had quiet spirit and was a great person but very few people noticed her. I was happy she got her happily ever after. I voluntarily received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.

Being a member of the English Ton, may sound exciting, what with balls, soirees and afternoon teas, but if you are the shy retiring type, all the socializing these events entail would be loathsome and boring, Then, to be placed in a situation of having to attract the attention for a spouse, well I for one would be running for the hills. This is the way English society worked, and this is a story about two lifelong friends, who are enduring the London Season, just to find that elusive spouse.
I won’t go further, but it is a lovely story, well worth the time to read it.

A delightful look at the social season during the Regency period. Nicholas and Lillian have been friends since childhood and always enjoy each other's company so much more than anyone else's. Lillian, at 23, is almost beyond the age to have found a husband since that is the prime reason for having a Season in London. Nicholas is preoccupied to avoid marriage because there is no one he can imagine would keep him interested. Read this book to find out what happens with these very close and dear friends. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review to let others know how much I enjoyed reading it.

Lilian Rowe has just about resigned herself to being a spinster. She is used to being a wallflower. There is only one man who takes any notice of her and he will only ever be just a good friend.
Nicholas Davenport, the Duke of Elmbury is trying to avoid all the marriage minded mamas. He shamelessly uses his good friend as a shield. She is the only one he can truly relax around.
A sweet and clean historical romance that is an entertaining and easy read.

This is a sweet friends-to-lovers Regency romance, very well written and fairly true to its historical setting. It's nice to see characters that don't have to be strong personalities or extroverts; sometimes the quiet ones are the most interesting. Nicholas learns that there's more to a potential partner than just social skills. It's a short little novella with a satisfying HEA. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Friendship

I really enjoyed this very good book. Two great longtime friends finally realized how well they suited each other. The only bad part was the book ended too quickly. We never found out how his family received her, how well she took to being a Duchess with her shyness around others and how they fared in their future lives with possible children. Those things I am sad to say we will never know but can only imagine.

This is a sweet and clean historical romance - friends who have just recently been reacquainted realise that they could have so much more than just friendship.

I always enjoy historical stories where the females are daring enough to be more than what society prescribes, and Lillian, though shy, pushes through.

Pleasant story

I have been put off reading this book for some time as I didn't like the cover!! But I am glad I got over my aversion, because I thoroughly enjoyed Lillian and Nicholas's story. The couple had known each other since being children and as Lillian was 23 years old her mother was beginning to despair of her ever getting married, due to this pressure Lillian had become very self conscientious and quiet, she was only confident when she met up with Nicholas who in turn tended to use Lillian to ward of unwanted females. Their banter when together was amusing and their developing relationship was delightful to read.
I thoroughly recommend this book.

A sweet story of a plain insecure girl growing into a swan who has no idea of her beauty. Then her greatest friend finally realises he can't live without her. A light, enjoyable read.

I started this book this morning and could not put it down. It was an unexpected pleasure true it took Nicholas ever so long to see what love really is, but thank God fate stepped in. I pick this book up as free download and I am so happy I did. This story is just the right length for a quick break from work. Plus you get a happy ending and see two character realize what they have together is real love. It truly was one of the better historical I have read. I am not part of any advance reading group I just wanted to give an honest review and let others know what a delight this book is.

This was a sweet little love story of friends to lovers in Regency England. This would be a delightful afternoon lunch read or a quick little read for those with limited time. Two friends use their childhood friendship to get them through the tedious rules and regulations that governed high society. They helped each other avoid the tedium of hours in pinching shoes and over heated ballrooms.

The characters Nicholas Davenport and Lillian Rowe would be called "scamps" if they were still children. They adored to trade witty and acerbic barbs about the party goers around them through the evening. Nicholas and Lillie were childhood friends and they remained very close friends. He found that his memories and thoughts of Lillie had changed over the last few seasons. Lillie was already in love with him and had been for years. She had held out hope that Nicholas would find that he loved her. Nicholas found Lillian beautiful and well educated but Lillie had a major flaw her lack of confidence around others and her shyness. She could easily fade into the background at any event and become invisible against the wallpaper. She sadly knew that she was heading for spinsterhood.

Read this enjoyable book and see Nicholas' journey through his feelings for his childhood friend Lillie. Lillian sees her future dwindling each season. Follow the many thoughts, hopes and fears running through her mind. I'll be on the lookout for more works from this author and hopefully my future wish list will be growing soon.
