All’s fair in love and magic.

Rosalind is preparing for all-out war with Drew, who wields gods-magic with terrifying skill. But now Rosalind is learning to harness gods-magic, too. When she next encounters her cousin, she wants to destroy him completely.

Unfortunately for her, Drew launches a surprise attack on the vampire city. Torn away from Caine, she's trapped in Drew’s sadistic world where she has to do whatever he commands. But a quiet rage simmers under the surface...

Drew thinks he can control her, but she'll do anything to be reunited with Caine, her seductive demigod. And when she does, she's determined to learn the truth about him--and herself--once and for all. Gods-magic or not, she'll find a way back to the vampire city.

Because the price of failure will be far too high for her, for Caine--and for all of demon-kind.

There is a lot of action and plot, but it was still hard to connect with the characters. Also the distrust between Rosalind and Caine is getting old. Yes, Caine has secrets, but Rosalind doesn't have to be so distrusting of him. It's the third book in the series, and I hoped she would be over it by now. I also don't feel that Caine and Rosalind are any closer even though .

Summary:
Lots of action
Exciting story
Hard to connect with characters

I'm really sad this is the last book in this series, because the series is so good.

This book ties up the whole story and everything nicely, it doesn't leave any unanswered questions and the fate of everyone, good and evil, is satisfying.

Overall okay

Overall it ended okay. Not telling us much and leaving lots of hanging threads. It seemed an abrupt ending. Would have loved an Epilogue instead of them talking about starting their own world, whatever that meant. I guess in the end they beat the bad guys, but I just never felt the characters and their relationships. The overall story plotline was good, just the character building was minimal at best and the story suffered greatly for that lack. The main couple spent so much time mistreating each other, battling each other, keeping unnecessary secrets from each other and generally being apart for 99.9% of the series that I just couldn't feel their romance. He never told her he loved her. I think they barely had sex twice and it wasn't memorable that I could tell. Maybe this should be sold as a YA story. That's what it felt like. I get not wanting a romance to overcome a story, but you gotta make the reader feel it and care. That is where this series failed. Like when Rosalind found out that the humans kept by the vamps weren't being treated well, kept warm or fed well. She did nothing. Sure gave one girl her jacket. What about the rest of the humans? She had enough power later to insist on giving them better living conditions, but she was always so self centered that she never did. There were so many proactive things the character could have done to protect, but she never did anything until she was about to die herself. She would look up and see the ward thinning, but ignore it instead of strengthening it like she could. And then she is shocked when monsters come through. All 3 mages were in Lilinor for weeks, maybe months with not once trying the daylight spell. She just struck me as apathetic. Drifting through the story and reacting to what's thrown at her. Until her daylight monster idea, she was just barely there. Overall, the storyline made it readable, the characters made it barely readable. I guess an overall rating would be 3.5 stars. It would be 4 if the last book was done away with. That was useless.

More?

Rosalind really does a number on herself when she takes the ambrosia. I'm not sure what makes her so special that she doesn't go insane like her cousin and parents. Whatever the reason, I am glad she doesn't.

Her and Caine's relationship is so interesting. They fight their feelings, especially Caine. He thinks he is not meant for her and that Malphas is the better brother, so she should want him. Fortunately for him Rosalind is a bit stubborn and doesn't give up on him.

I think the most fascinating part for me is the gods being broken and the times where they are almost sane when working through Rosalind.

This sounds like the end of he story. However, I would love to hear more from this world.

Not my favorite series :(

This is the last book in the Rosalind stories. She has trained in the gods magic and takes on the brotherhood and her crazy cousin drew. I can honestly say I'm happy to be done w this particular story as I felt that it went on for much longer than necessary; each book pretty much was a rewrite of the one before w Rosalind learning her powers and fighting against the same people only in this one she finally manages it. The problem for me I think is that I couldn't connect w her. I found caine to be the more interesting one of the characters and it's great that his character makes a come back in future reads. The other books written by these authors are far more intriguing and I have to recommend them over this particular long winded series.

Divine Hunter is the final installment in The Vampire's Mage Series. It takes the tally to four full-length books and a fifth title which is a prequel story. However, for those still fully endeared to this universe, as am I, and for whom the cessation is too soon there's a second series with two full-length published books and a companion short story found in anthology called Magic & Mistletoe. I'm not aware at this stage if any next installment is planned to be the last in it's case. It's called Demons of Fire and Night and it has a very individual flavour. I suspect that in the absence of advice regarding location that it's unique enough for you to only guess at the few clues I've personally picked up on thus far. Perhaps you have better observation skills and will pickup on the clues better, you could see it as an interesting little game if you're inclined. Irrespective, it's still a good way to get your fix should you want to encounter more from this environment.

Rosalind becomes bereft of her support network for a period of time as she's forced to submit to Drew's plans for her. It's a voluntary sacrifice in order to save lives not limited to only friends she holds dear to her, including in some fashion even an insane succubus Rosalind wracked would consider more an enemy. Drew had retrieved Erish in the downtime between books three and four so that more demons and abominations could be newly created to expand the ranks of his and the Brotherhood's army. Imprisoned and treated vindictively, Rosalind will spend many future nightmare-filled nights reliving events that take place. It comes at a time when she doesn't need anymore memories to contribute to sleepless nights. Her worst being recollections dragged up as grief-stricken reliving of her twin's final moments. As you know, Drew had dosed her with enchanted iron in a ploy to force her to ram the Hawthorn stake into Miranda's heart. He'd ended up doing it himself when his tactic was averted by Cleo, her soul providing Rosalind with at least some benefits to offset the costs. The scene is still too fresh, so it also appears throughout her days as well.

Another confrontation with Drew will not be long in coming, it's blatantly obvious that only either of their deaths will put a stop to the conflict between them. Whilst Rosalind could likely move on to live her life without an unstoppable need to kill him, he shows no such ability to put a stop to his burning need to exact repentance, and perhaps even her death for the perceived betrayal he considers her to have committed. Readers would know that at the least he considers her a demon-whore. He's so heavily involved with the Brotherhood that their desire to watch her burn is undoubtedly inseparable from his own. Only with the benefit of hindsight will she ask herself the paramount question: can a god can be killed, or the more likely possibility, can they be corralled permanently if death isn't an option. As it stands, the damage she has been able to inflict has been healed in timeframes spanning from seconds to a short number of minutes.

Without the answer to this riddle none of what she's trained to do seems to matter. The dilemma in obtaining this knowledge is all the more difficult considering she has access only to two demigods and neither they nor their godly parents are ever going to be likely to give the answer to how they can be killed. It's blatantly obvious from how little about his past that he's prepared to share that Caine doesn't trust her enough to divulge said information. Her destiny, accepted by her or intended by others being redundant, is reaching the pivotal stages where events will lead to an intersection of either becoming a heroine and saviour, or being among those who failed to stop plans that led to armageddon. She'll therefore become either famous or infamous, whether she wants it or not.

With the death of Miranda still so salient she's never been more motivated to embrace her abilities, old and new. As Caine points out frequently, though, she's being reckless regarding how her life will never recover from her actions when the fallout clears. Gods-magic continues to exact costs from her. Sacrifices already made regarding her sanity are only a month old and they're being felt. The voices of the Gods frequent her mind, increasing in loudness with prolonged or frequent usage, and shaping her desires being a secondary sign. The costs are high, but there's an absolute need. Unless they can come up with a workable alternative to meet their needs, or to some extent even just another plan, she doesn't perceive that a choice exists.

Conditions may have already deteriorated to the point where the war has already been lost, a very real fear of Rosalind's. The Brotherhood and Drew must be erased from existence given the irreparable damage to the environment of Earth and the human gene pool already made. Not to mention the number of demonic entities recreated and new abominations never before seen. The power of the seven Gods is seductive for her, but she thankfully hasn't indulged heavily in Blodrial's ambrosia which is among the many contributors to Drew's insanity. Blodrial's influence is the one that gives greatest immunity to magic wielded by others on her team, though. Not being a demigod like Caine or his younger brother Malphas involves a hefty cost. Mortals were never meant to wield such power.

It's indicative, however, that Rosalind isn't confident that she'll live through the war. It's impacting heavily her willingness to go past the point of sensible risks into reckless actions. The desires of the Gods who have dominion over the type of power being channeled force their own desires upon the channeler. It keeps her from heeding good advice in the manner for which it's given, warping certain sentiment into statements by the speaker about their perceived inadequacies regarding her ability. It's a similar trend seen whenever mortals have begun using the power of Gods-magic, and a trend in her family past and present; namely her parents and Drew. She is sufficiently embittered that she often fails to take suggestions how they're intended. In fairness the secrets Caine keeps from her exacerbate problems. Some skeletons have lived in the darkness so long that they have lost the ability to be taken out of the closet.

Even if her intentions moving forward aren't seen by her as her destiny, they are nonetheless congruent with plans made by others which were intended to be her destiny. Memories now arising and all of the things that could've been but never can, drown her thoughts and feelings in a pool so deep that a bottom may not even exist. Successful breaches of Lilinor's defences begin playing on everyone's mind regarding how susceptible to attack they are, and how vulnerable the vampire army is in the absence of a daywalker spell. With Miranda's murder the triumvirate is missing a third crucial vessel for the second souls necessary to cast the respective spell. This continues to cause significant conflict in the cohesion of the groups seeking refuge and places another strain on their capacity to win the war. With breaches from without and those within who act in ways that further their enemies' goals, Lilinor becomes like the too deep dead brush that requires only a spark to become a bushfire.

The unnatural realisations made by Drew's insane belief in his destiny of being the next godly creator is an eye-opener. It makes for a rather detailed visage of his created kingdom to say the least. They work well in provoking your imagination in a splendour often only possible through fantasy. Reading and imagining the scenes played out in visual imagery combined with the notion of Angelic as it's used herein, gives me the impression of Neo and his abilities to alter the code of the Matrix. Imagine, if you will, that the casters are looking on their environment as though it were like looking at a tv screen. There's destruction and things that have happened, people injured and damage to the environment and structures, just as a few examples present in the view you have.

Then consider that with the power and command of the Angelic language and the magic it creates, that having said abilities now allows you to watch the black and green screens of the rolling code creating whatever environment Neo's friends were watching in Morpheus's ship: all the monitors setup in the control room with the Matrix programming rolling down the screen. To alter the reality as creators using Angelic it's like they speak the necessary words - or the Matrix code as it's used in this analogy, of the spell that fixes what is needed. Neo can only see the code at the start, then like the other shipmates he starts seeing what the code means to recipients. The magic herein, as suggested by the analogy, is like the ability to speak Angelic so that it lets Neo punch in new code on the keyboard to remake the images being looked upon.

It probably wasn't portrayed well, they say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well it's true when it comes to concepts you picture in your head and then try to explain in words. The point is however that in several hundred to a thousand books I've never had such an analogy of the magic come to mind, and it's been years since I watched any of The Matrix movies. Thus I'm attempting to give credit in that Christine and Nick have written about the magic in ways that not only give images, it also gave me a visual impression of the system used. Although the paramount question might be more so if that's in any way similar to how it was used or created. One of the great features of their books, though, is that they precipitate so many visual images when I'm reading away.

I've loved Rosalind pretty much from day one, when she was a naive iron ring wearing enemy to all who were just as much her people as the ones she fought for. The books have covered her so well that you could likely sit down and notarise bits and pieces about her as they arise, and you'd end up with something akin to her memoirs. Every character in retrospect has had pivotal contributions, giving this series a wide and well developed cast. In their own roles they are just as easily imagined. I have loved the lore in this series, that's part of why I got such a tangible image of how it could be conceptualised. The breadth of magical capacities is very wide. I especially like the way knowledge of Angelic has been used. It paints an interesting construct of gods as creators, and why a heavenly, or divine war might've taken place. It's a good alternative to it being solely about copulation and the creation of seraphim and nephilim, which is the staple of not just fantasy lore, but also religious accounts.

There's just so many things to enjoy that I suspect I've probably done a better accounting if you were to look across all my reviews by checking just the last few paragraphs. This is where I write all my opinion based reflection, as opposed to the opening which serves as an introduction to the book. It could be said that it's like an extended blurb. If you're interested, I've included review links on the other books in this series. The links below are to all current books not including three for The Momento Mori Witch Trilogy, because I'm yet to have the pleasure of reading them. There is a prequel short story which is a free unpublished novella available to newsletter subscribers (called Shadow Mage). A simple Google search will bring up a hit for C.N. Crawford on Goodreads, which is where I've posted it due to the book not being available via Amazon. Another missing review is for Fallen Fae, which is another free download. It is associated with the newest series, so it's perhaps not important for the purposes herein (details available on the C.N. Crawford website).

I loved this series so much that I went straight from book 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 in 3 days. I did the bare minimum that I could get away with so I could get back to this story.

This is the story of Rosalind, a girl who wants to be a Hunter. She's been with them since she was 5 when she was adopted by Mason. Her memories before then are sketchy, basically glimpses or flashes. When the story begins she's in college and she hunts monsters - demons, witches, vampires, etc. She's on one such hunt when she fails to get her prey. But a simply beautiful male specimen, who also happens to be an incubus (aka monster/enemy) saves the day and makes the kill. He also tells her he knows what she is and pretty soon the hunters will know too. Then he takes off. She meets up with her trainer to debrief then goes home where she finds Hunters waiting to take her captive and labeling her witch. And so her world turns upside down and the adventure begins. Rosalind goes through a lot of transformation as the story continues and builds to rather epic climax. No spoilers, just a recommendation to set aside a day or three and read this wonderfully epic series.

Just finished this series. It was nice that I started when I did because it allowed me to not put it down until I got to the end of the series and not have to wait. I didn't like how Caine said he wouldn't leave her side at one point because of the dangers that lurked in Lilinor especially after she was attacked multiple times when alone. Why say you will be by her side and then not...don't say it unless you mean it. I get it...you're a general in an army but again don't say it unless you mean it.
I did, however, enjoy Rosalind and Caine's interactions in this book more than in the previous one but that could be attributed to time and trust.

Good finale

This was a good finale. Loved the whole descriptive battle toward the end. The only thing that was annoying was I felt that the fights from the brotherhood who repeatedly broke down Lilinor's shield was too repetitive. I felt it lacked imagination and it became the same old thing occurring time again. Thankfully Lilinors demons found their daywalking cure in a roundabout way and got to take the battle to the brotherhood in the end. The characters were well written and Caine was more likeable in this finale book. Rosalind broke down his walls and he finally admitted how he felt about her. It was a really good ending. I would definitely recommend this series.

The best and dangerous

By the time I started this series, I’ve read most of this authors other books. The characters intertwine from other series throughout all the books I have read. They are books for adults. They have descriptions of horrible violence, sensuous and seductive sex and imagery that inspires terror, happiness and sorrow. As a truly excellent book does, I was pulled into this world, I could not stop reading until all the interconnected stories were completed. These books are not for the faint of heart, and are not light reading, but will carry you through to a stunning end each time.

I really enjoyed this series however this last book has me thinking I missed pages. Once of the characters (who shall not be named here) throws out the L word out of nowhere. I seriously went back and read the whole chapter because I was sure I missed something. Then there's 'the' battle and after all this awesome fighting and fantastical creatures it just sort of ends, then that's it..poof..it's all over. I'm giving 4 stars because overall the series had me turning pages and staying up late trying to figure out the mysteries.

“That’s because we’re not destined to become our parents. That’s a fiction. You write your own story, Caine.”

Rosalind and Caine’s story comes to a close. But not before her crazy cousin Drew descends on her and a couple old enemies too. ⚔️ Rosalind battled memories and herself to become her own heroine. And along the way, lands herself a sexy incubus that’s absolutely in love with her. In the end, love and magic. 🖤

“And with that moment of release, her fractured soul began to heal just a little.”

Entertaining Finale with Romantic Overtones

Christine and Nick Crawford have developed a great finale to the "Vampire's Mage" series in this volume. The conclusion is bittersweet, a combination of loss and gain, survival and death, and some nice romantic touches. Truthfully, I was wondering just how they would tie the plot lines together, and I think they wove a satisfying conclusion.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AS BOTH AN INDIVIDUAL BOOK AND AS A SERIES!!!

Thriller!!

What a wonderful series... and the think I hated Rosalind in the first 2 books haha... she really grew in the last two books. The story line is bomb!
My only sad point is that the chemistry between the two characters were dragged out a bit but I’ve noticed that this is a pattern with the authors C.N. Crawford...
I’m now don’t know what to read after such a great series.

A nice justified ending

The bad guys got a wonderful death. The battle scenes were nice and vivid with some crazy monsters that needed to be defeated. Stubborn characters FINALLY opened up showing their emotions and admitting their troubled pasts. A few more yummy sex scenes. And a bad ass heroine with some ridiculous powers and her inner turmoil to contain and combat everything she had inside her mind.

This was the last book of the series and man was it good. I cannot think of any loose ends that weren't met. Rosalind finally comes into her own and becomes the super bad$$ I wanted her to be. Her and Caine are still smoking. These books were fast paced and pulled you in. I didn't realize that this was a second series in the universe. Seriously thinking bout going back and reading the first series of this universe. I believe there is even a third installment to this universe.

I loved the conclusion. You get so many answers in this book to questions I have had since book 1 tbh. I love Rosalind and Caine’s relationship. Malphas was cracking me up the whole time he was helping train her. Blows my mind that Drew went insane but Rosalind became a god. She is such a strong character. When Drew, Randolph, and Blieth died I was like about time. I liked how the series ended. It was a good one I almost read all 4 books in a day!

I just loved this series, Rosalind and Caine are just the most amazing pair and Malphas well yum too.
There are to many moments and characters that you just cannot help but fall in love with. The action and passion is great and ongoing, which I love.
I have thoroughly enjoyed it and will now move onto the next series of C.N Crawford. Amazing writer and fantastic storylines!!

Wonderful Ending

Loved the story. Loved the imagery! The authors are truly gifted. Rosalind growth was great, from naive to immoral goddess. Cain is Cain. Apparently “hottest man to walk the earth” 😆 I loved his character when he wasn’t holding back. He was such an enticing vault. I swear I thought his half brother was going to end up being Cains son! Sneaky Crawfords. The story did have some parts that dragged a little, but necessary for the growth parts. Story was great ❤️

Great end to what has been a brilliant series. I've read all four books in this series over the last few days and they have made me laugh, cry (particularly book 3 so have your tissues ready) and swoon over Caine, oh my is he hot *fans self just thinking of him*. This really was the perfect ending to a great series with an awesome cast of characters.

Good final instalment

Another good read and the last in the vampire mage series. It was well written and seemed to go by at a quicker pace than the other books , which as it was the final book there was a lot to fit in before the ending. The whole series has been an enjoyable read.

This book was amazing

This is one of the best series I've ever read... It's got awful tragedy, torture, hate, love, forgiveness, magic, insanity, and like Total of 3 sex scenes. It was so amazing to see a girl go from truly naive to goddess who kills the hell out of anyone attacking her family. It was brilliant. I'm so glad I found this series to add to my top favorites.

What an ending have to say this book was the best of the lot so much going. Jam-packed the whole way through the book I'm taking action to the max. I hardly felt like I had time to breath but I could not stop reading needing badly to see the outcome. This series has been fantastic really pleased I got the chance to read it.

I purchased Divine Hunter as part of the Vampire Mage box set. This last book was my favorite, by far. Roselind was more take-charge and was balanced by Caine's character, rather than overwhelmed. Nice to see positive growth in the protagonists and excellent plotting by the author. Great tension and some unexpected surprises. The series is a good read, and the box set a great bargain.

Excellent series serving the fantasy reader's ideas of a dark universe alongside what we think is reality

Great story with demons that are amazingly human. The heroine struggles with her humanity and a forbidden love in a dark fantasy that holds the reader. O e of my new favorites. Will there be more???

Gutted it’s over

Absolutely outstanding series! Honestly couldn’t put them down. This book in particular was jam packed with action from the start. The characters are so easy to fall in love with and the book draws you into a magical fantasy world. If you haven’t read them you are truly missing out
