Bull rider Aaron Jordan is dedicated to the professional organization for which he rides, so when he’s asked to play host to the tour’s biggest sponsor, newly divorced CeCe Cole, he can’t say no. When he gets all tied up—literally—by the insanely rich and jealous cougar, Aaron can’t even glance at another woman. But his attraction to Cole’s media manager Jill Malone is obvious and puts both their careers and the future of the organization in jeopardy.
Spurred was originally released by Samhain Publishing under the same title. This is a reissue, reedited and recovered but without any substantial additions or changes to the story.

4.5 Stars

From the very first book in Cat Johnson's Studs in Spurs series, I was hooked and I look forward to each and every release. I've always admired the way this author comes up with new, interesting and fresh plot lines despite the fact that most of these men all work in the bull riding world (although I am still hoping hot veterinarian Cody, brother of Chase, to someday get a story) and she never ceases to make me smile and laugh and there were many moments like that in Spurred along with a few that well....let's just say I think Aaron Jordan could probably file a lawsuit against the bull riding association or at the very least the man in charge of it. That being said, this is an entertaining story with a twist and a couple who despite some really strange odds managed to find their way to each other.

It's been a long time since I read a book where I felt really; really sorry for the hero but damn Aaron Jordan was in a tight spot in this book. Asked by the man in charge of the bull riding association he rides for to chaperone their biggest sponsor Aaron doesn't feel he can say no, but once ex-model and recent divorcee CeCe Cole gets her hooks into him he feels stuck, disgusted and not sure how to handle things especially given the fact that he can't even look at the woman he would really like to get to know CeCe's media manager, Jill Malone.

Jill Malone is in hell, or at least she feels like she is because her barracuda of a boss is making moves on the hot bull rider that she would love nothing more than to get to know better especially since she can tell he's not 100 percent comfortable with the she-cat. When she gets a little time with him she realizes he's not only hot he's a nice guy with a great personality but unfortunately it becomes clear really fast that her boss does not approve of their association.

This is a difficult book to review without too many spoilers but Aaron and Jill manage to steal a few moments alone together enough to know they are interested. Jill even gets to spend time with Aaron's brother in law and his other fellow bull riders and enjoys being back around the world she grew up in. With the help of a slightly older and worldlier rider, Aaron realizes he must take a stand which lands both he and Jill in trouble.
I absolutely loved the time Aaron and Jill got to spend alone and holy moley there was a totally unexpected and hot bathroom scene but more than that I liked that these two really fell hard and fast for each other so much so that their family and friends noticed even before they were ready to admit it.

While Spurred ended with a happy for now, I have no doubt these two will find a way to move forward to their happily ever after because if they can survive the crazy weekend they met, they can survive anything.

Like many of the other readers, my reaction to this book is split.

If I had not read other books by this author, I probably would have abandoned after the first couple of chapters. The Hero Aaron is manipulated and bullied into sleeping with an important Sponsor, both by her and by the President of the Bull Riding Association. Then because he does not feel he has a choice to say no to additional sex with the Sponsor, she escalates the non-consensual stimulation in a way that might be considered rape.

Anyone might have to enter into therapy to deal with the confusing feelings these encounters would have brought up in him. I think there could have been serious grounds for a lawsuit regarding sexual harassment against the Bull Riding Association and possibly even sexual assault by the Sponsor. In a way, it was an interesting look at the topic of 'what is consent' when the victim is male. The first half of the book dealing with these issues was mainly icky.

However I loved the romance between Aaron and Jill. Once she got fired, it was interesting to see him step up in a supportive way and create an opportunity for them to explore their relationship possibilities. Their romance was light, fun, easy and sexy. I would love to have had much more of this part of the story to balance the earlier part with CeCe that left a bad taste in my mouth.

It seemed like things were just getting starting for Aaron and Jill, and another story or even a novella around their new life together would be fun and their chemistry is worth exploring further.

Spurred is the eighth book in the Studs In Spurs romance series. It is a decently written and professionally edited novella.

The romance portion of this book was fun to read, but I was completely turned off by the beginning. Basically, the Hero is raped by the older woman he is told to entertain. The author wrote it in a casual way, but I can't consider non consensual sex as anything less than awful.

I'm not sure I can really recommend Spurred.

I love this studs in spurs series! The only reason that I did not give it five stars was because I absolutely hated CeCe Cole and felt like what she did to Aaron was completely repulsive. But I also think he should have grown some balls and put a stop to it before it happened. I love Aaron's character and felt he got a raw deal with this book. Jill and Aaron should have been the main focus of this story without so much detail about what CeCe did.

OMG So much drama. I loved it. Cat Johnson does it again with this book.

Aaron and Jill meet because he it tasked with keeping the biggest sponsor happy for the weekend and Jill is her assistant. The drama of a rich older woman not getting her way and her abuse of power is astounding. Jill is really down to earth and the kind of girl he could fall for. When she gets fired and is left to find her own way back home, Aaron offer her a ride and place to stay until she can get back home and figure out her life. When the sponsorship is pulled because of Aaron, Jill tries to fix it before the break is over. Who is she going to convince to sponsor them? Will Aaron convince Jill he wants to be with only her and how will they work it out if they get together?

Good book

I was not real find of Aaron in the Other books, but he redeemed himself in this one with the way he treated Jill. Cat Johnson has a great talent for making you like her characters.

Yummmm

Poor Aaron. I cracked up at his mess. I sure loved it when he got out of his mess too. No spoilers, but I certainly would have loved more of them.

SPURRED

Love Cat Johnson's books and it seems like quite a while since I've gotten to read a Studs in Spurs book. Sure would love to get an update on what happened to each of the couple's in this series. It sure would make a great novella if nothing else! In this book Aaron Jordan is put into the position of keeping one of the main sponsors happy. He meets Jill, her assistant during this time. Not trying to send out spoilers, but I definitely was not happy that he was expected to keep the sponsor happy, not matter what she wanted. Glad when he finally took a stand.

Okay, I love this world and this series, but I wasn't happy with the fact there was in-depth descriptions of our hero having sex with another women for over half the book! Just the fact he had been involved with her would have good enough and then leave the descriptors for our heroine and him

For that, and only that, I couldn't love the book. Once our H/h were together, everything was perfect and I loved that part but sadly it was less than half the story

Aaron is a bull rider, that's all he knows, so when the big boss tells him that he wants him specifically to play tour guide and do whatever a sponsor wants it turns out to be way more than he ever expected...Jill knows she's on borrowed time with the company she's with, the boss isn't exactly what she was hoping for... I found this to be quite an interesting story the way it all worked out I was happy with the end results...onto the next

While I did enjoy some aspects of this story there are some parts I wasn't very comfortable with. Some of the characters I really didn't like. It has some good aspects I'm just not sure it's enough to make this a good book.

I was given a copy by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I thought this could have easily been 50 pages longer. If it had, we might have had a bit more believable build up to the attraction...I just didn't feel it. On the other hand, I thought the "cougar domination" scenes were hilarious!

3 stars for this one.
