Five weeks after Natalie walked out of my life, I was forced to go back to the start. Twice I’d given my heart to those who didn’t want it, leaving me alone again wondering who I was, where I was meant to be going, and what I stood for.

Loneliness became my new best friend, no matter how hard I tried to deny it. Bitterness threatened to take over and turn me into somebody I wasn’t. Nothing made me feel alive anymore. Nothing made me happy.

Until she arrived. Her. The girl no one was meant to fall in love with—especially not me. Especially not then.

We didn’t know that our time together was fleeting. Our futures were already shaped for us, weaved together by a string of events that were destined to tear us apart if we let them. I just wasn’t willing to go down without a fight this time.

Not all men give up so easily, and the scars on my heart had made me stronger. If anyone could beat the cruel hand of fate, it was me. All I had to do was believe.

In me. In her. In us.

That beautiful, unexpected, thrilling, surprise love of mine.

This review is so hard to write for three main reasons.

1. You really need to read Natexus first and it's hard not to give anything away about Natexus whilst reviewing Marcus.

2. You have to 'live' Marcus as you're reading it, it's raw, it's painful, it's beautiful, in no particular order which means everything I write about the story would be giving something away and I don't want to ruin the magic for you.

3. How do you put words that do any sort of justice to the words Victoria writes?

I'll try and babble some thoughts although they'll likely be in an incoherent form. Firstly I should start by saying I had high expectations of Marcus. I thought it would be awesome but it was nothing like I expected, the angst wasn't as terrifying as I thought it would be and it wasn't as sad as I feared. It was indescribable really. But here's what it was, it was beautiful, it was poetic, it made me smile, it made me swoon, it made me gasp and it made me happy, at the same time it made me sad and made me appreciate life. The best way to describe Marcus is after how Natexus left me, Marcus 'squeezed all my cracks back together'. Some of the moments were heartstopping and many of the one liners thought provoking. The author is a sorceress. She has the ability to create a world in which I want to immerse myself, her words reach out to me like no other and I find them making sense in my own life. She writes words so good that you would happily ink them on your skin. I can't t really write a review without giving away spoilers so this is all you're getting, go read it for yourself and fall in love with, the characters the world created and Victoria L. James.

Marcus, is right up there as one of my ultimates he's given Travis Maddox one hell of a run for his money. He's my grown up adult version of the perfect book boyf. Thank you Victoria L. James for not giving me the awesome story I expected, thank you for giving me the stupendous story I didn't even know I needed. ❤️

Favorite Quotes:

If only love came with a warning label and a list of possible side effects, maybe I’d have known what would happen to me once I let go of the second love of my life. Once made me naïve. Twice made me a fool— a feeling I wasn’t too comfortable with.

You once told me you didn’t need saving. What I didn’t realise at the time was that I did.

Love is a two-part adventure. The first step is falling. The other is staying. Now that I’ve invited you in, you’re never allowed to leave.

Johnny, however, looked like his skin was made of rubber and wax, with his extra small T-shirt showing off his helium-filled muscles, and jeans so tight I had to wonder whether his fart would pop back up into his throat if he accidentally let one rip in those things.

…you look at the whole world like it barely matters, but when you look at me, your face lights up like I’m the only thing you see.

My Review:

Victoria L. James is an outright thief, an outlaw, a bandit - she has delivered a book that is heart stealing and breath-snatching, and I couldn’t be happier to have been robbed blind of both. Marcus is a treasure, the book, and the character. He is epic, indelible, the total package, the ultimate BBF. Swoon, I want one. Victoria L. James has a special kind of magical word voodoo, falling into her characters’ heads was immediate and effortless, yet the conjured scenarios were compelling and extraordinary; all of which requires great skill, deft handling, prodigious word prowess, and a limitless imagination. Don’t bother reading Marcus unless you enjoy clever banter, endearing and alluring characters, emotive writing that mines every corner of your heart, amusing humor, keen insights, and a moving and engrossing tale. I read it slowly so I could savor every word, and found a pleasurable banquet to devour in each chapter. Sigh, I am ruined and fear that reading anything else will feel like diet food.

Seriously guys, forgive me if this review makes zero freakin' sense. I have at least a hundred different emotions swirling around in my head, fighting to break free, and I have no idea where to start.

If you're reading/read or considering buying Marcus then chances are you've already read Natexus? Maybe even All The Way?

If not, why?

Anyway, I'm going to take it as you've already read Natexus, therefore you know what happened and your memory of said book it still very much vivid. The feels? The ugly tears? The sleepless nights you endured after flipping over that final page? It's there, right? All of it.

Don't worry, I get it. I sooooooooo, get it!

But let me tell you something. If you thought you would get off lightly with this one then you are dead wrong.

I adore this author. She's crazily talented and knows all the right words that are capable of hitting you right in your poor, defenceless heart.

She's brutal—in a good way, of course.

In Marcus, there are no feels that go unnoticed. The pain? You feel it. Right where it hurts the most. The love? You can't hide from it. It's there. Strong, passionate and unlikely. The tears? Inevitable. Always, inevitable.

Did I mention that he's mine?

Well he is.

Marcus is mine.

Yeah, I totally called dibs on him way back when and there isn't a chance in hell I'm giving him up. (Na Na Na Na Na)

I had a massive soft spot for Marcus in Natexus. I wanted him to be happy. I wanted someone to love him with the kind of intense love that he gave. But I had no idea what was in store for him next and I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't freakin' scared going into this one.

I was.

I really was.

Victoria L. James ripped my heart out yet again, stomping on it with her tiny little feet when it was at it most weakest. She very beautifully placed it back where it belonged, though, only to shatter it into a gazillion pieces all over again.

I was on a never ending, emotional train ride. Not even a smooth, slightly bendy, train ride, but one of those loop da bloody loop Thomas the Tank Engine tracks that my 5 year old has. Not excluding the sheer drop that assaulted my heart to the point of no return.

With that being said, the journey was one that I won't be forgetting in a hurry.

Victoria's words are something of a beauty that is extremely rare to come across. Compelling. Gut-wrenching. But absolutely stunning.

Did Marcus get his happily ever after?

You'll have to see for yourselves.

A beautiful and emotional story that shouldn't be ignore.

Marcus by Victoria L. James is the third book in the Natexus series. This one follows Marcus after having his heart broken by Natalie and the journey he takes to figure out why being a good guy keeps landing him in last place with love.

Ms. James has made Marcus into an interesting story about not only finding your one true soul mate but also that love comes in many forms and that just because a love doesn't last a lifetime, it doesn't mean it isn't real and leaves a lasting mark. Marcus is the good guy, the guy that always does the right thing. He's the friend you call when you need a hand, the one who you want to hang out with. Victoria made him caring, affectionate, smart and charming while still remaining a man's man. However, through the story you realize that this wonderful man needs to put himself first more than he does.

All of the friends and lovers from Natexus are on hand while Marcus's trials and journey of self-fulfillment play out. Alex and Natalie, Suzie and Paul, Danni as well as a new addition, Cameron all play large parts in Marcus's story. Ms. James' moves between her lead character's introspection, to thought provoking insights, to heartbreak to suspense nimbly. The story will keep you turning page after page as Marcus finds his bearings, his love and himself.

I recommend that you read Natexus prior to reading Marcus as it will give a lot of backstory and gives the reader context for Marcus but it is not absolutely necessary. Marcus can be read as a standalone.

Another hit by Victoria L. James!!!

Marcus... I love you. You stole my heart. I swooned, melted, and had a book hangover for days. I wanted true love for you (with me ;)... sadly it didn't end that way lol), and your journey was well worth the heartache I felt.

I wanted to hug you, console you, make you feel better. Your heart is so big and so worthy of love. I just love you. That is all.

Victoria, you created the most swoonworthy hero, I want to bring him home and keep him forever. I can't wait for our next book. Fantastic!!! Loved it!

Blurb:
Our time together was only meant to be fleeting.

Five weeks after being dumped by the love of my life, I was forced to start over. Twice I’d given my heart to those who didn’t want it, leaving my ego fragile and my future bleak. Bitterness became my sidekick. One night stands, fights, and alcohol were all I had left.

If only I’d have known she was right there waiting for me—the stunning beauty no one was meant to fall in love with. Especially not me. Especially not then. Her life was mapped out and there was no room for me to be a part of it, but the scars on my heart had somehow made me stronger, and I was a good guy who knew exactly when to be bad to get what I wanted.

Good God, I wanted her. I was going to have her. Then, no matter who stood in my way, I was going to keep her.

That unexpected, sassy surprise love of mine.

With a flawless soundtrack and the most intense emotions, this book tells the story of a very special man. A story that starts right after Natexus, surf through the past to fight Marcus demons and discover beside him if it's possible to love and be loved again.

One of the things I loved the most about this novel was how Marcus grew as a character. He was that man trying to do the right thing even if he was suffering in the process. He was so caring and selfless, also he had this hability to laugh at himself that is so rare and precious.

In the previous book we met Marcus as Samy's brother and the love interest of Natalie after Alex Law. He was that friend (and lover) who helped her to reconstruct her life and to smile again. He was the closest thing to a superhero (for me), and after his break-up with Natalie I was wishing for him to have a 'Happily Ever After'.

But as you must know, Victoria L. James isn't the kind of writer who let the characters get what they want so easily. And this wasn't an exception.

Marcus was hurt after the break-up with Natalie. He was feeling something wasn't right in his life. No matter how much liquor he drank, the loneliness was always there. He felt empty and started to question all the decisions he had made, the things he loved and left behind, and the things he does and don't fullfill him.

Long story short, he was a mess.

But then the past knock at his door, and the shit hit the fan. This confused man had to deal with the ghosts who were haunting him while he was trying to define a way to go on. And for a while he found himself back in the days when he was a happy man, when he had a purpose and a muse. But as I said before, it was a ghost messing with him... and when the reality show its face, Marcus was in a worst place, more sad and confused.

But he was also free...

Our superhero (also known as Marcus), for once, was the one needing to be saved. And he was about to find that person capable to embrace him so tight that could put his cracks back together.

She's a strong woman. Beautiful, funny and smart. She offers him her friendship, her honest and her heart, and together they will live the most powerful connection. They will be light and darkness. Day and Night. Ice and Fire... They will be unique. But their road to happiness don't will be easy. There are tears and frustration, sadness and lost, but at the end all the pain will be worth it 'cause together they will built a life filled with love, peace and friendship.

I'm so grateful for the chance to read this book. Grateful for witness one of the most beautiful and special love stories ever written, because it wasn't only about the romance between a couple, it wasn't just about their physical attaction... it was about learning to love yourself first, to put yourself first for once. About finding that things that make you happy and share them with the people you care about. This book was about friendship and how this appear in the most unexpected ways and places. It's about pain, yes, but it's also about the joy to free yourself of the pain and decide to be happy. I cried a lot reading it, sure, but I also laughed a lot.

I enjoyed Victoria L. James writing. She's a talented author and I really really hope you could give this series a try. Starting with Natexus. You will not regret it.

4.5 Loved It Stars!
Review by Lisa Kane

As much as I loved Natexus I was so torn by the ending. I knew in my heart that Natalie Vincent belonged with Alex Law, but I was in kindle love with Marcus Anderson. He was strong, and honest and gorgeous and everything that a girl wants or needs. But for Natalie, he just wasn’t the one.

She was in my life for five years, and the fact that she isn’t now is going to take some adjusting to.

Now Marcus Anderson is reinventing himself. Without Natalie being the center of his world, he is trying to find a new normal. But they didn’t just share a life together, they shared the same circle of friends. Seeing Alex and Natalie together hurts, even if he knows that letting Natalie go was the right decision. To complicate things further, his first love, the woman who shattered his heart is back in his life. Is this a good thing or not?

“You already lost me. All those years ago. I can’t go back. We can’t.”

But in spite of the Grand Canyon wide divide that should separate these three people, they try to accept all the changes. Marcus is a huge part of Natalie’s life and Alex can put aside almost any feeling for her happiness. Marcus is begrudgingly accepting of Alex and in spite of himself, is actually starting to like the guy. Alex has the world back on his shoulders again, as his father has screwed up again and is causing trouble.

As much as Marcus struggles, there are unexpected gifts in his life. One of those is his friendship with Daniella Marston. She’s the free spirited model who can’t seem to stay in one place for very long. But she’s helping to heal Marcus heart, will she be the one to own it someday?

“I thought you weren’t waiting for anyone anymore?”

“I guess I found someone who made it seem like a privilege rather than a sentence.”

Marcus is a story that is complicated, and multi layered and rich with words and sentences and paragraphs that are all necessary.
I was happy because of her. She held that power in her hands, and I was the lucky bastard she was gripping on to.

Ms. James does not employ empty phrases to fill the blank spaces of her stories. Her books are lengthy because there is so much story to tell. Her editor must have the job from hell having to make recommendations about what to cut and what to leave. It all needs to here, all the rich dialogue that will bring you to your knees, all the self-reflecting monologues that give such insight into the character, all the treasured moments that make me fall in love with her stories. I wanted peace for Marcus after reading Natexus and he finally gets the love he so deserves.

All I wanted to do-no, had to do-was feel her, touch her, be part of her, and everything else drifted away.

If you read Natexus, you know that Marcus was a book that had to be written. I think the author may have had readers at her doorstep with pitchforks if she didn’t give him his own story. Marcus was a very prominent character in Natexus that I think pretty much everyone fell in love with but he left us all heartbroken.

The novel, Marcus, had an underlying feeling of sadness throughout most of the story. He is an amazing character – funny, sweet, charming, sexy – but because he just couldn’t find his true happiness, it left the reader with a heavy heart for Marcus. This feeling constantly tugged at me and, like the characters in the story, made me want to hug him til he was happy.

The author did an amazing job setting the tone throughout the story. There were times that I found myself smiling like a loon, literally laughing out loud, and other times, wiping tears I didn’t realize were falling. There was also a point where I was so wrapped up in the story; I was barely breathing due to the intensity of the situation while trying to quickly get through the pages.

Victoria L James nailed it with Marcus! He completely lived up to how I wanted him to be as a character, and then some. Here is my recommendation: Stop what you are doing, read Natexus (If you haven’t already), then read Marcus. You can thank me later. LOVED THIS BOOK!

Marcus broke up with the woman that he could see himself spending the rest of his life with, and five weeks later, he realizes that he must start again, only this time, he needs to figure out who he is. Not to mention, what he stands for as well, since this is the second time that he gave his heart away to someone who gave it back. He's super lonely no matter how much he tries to drink it away, and basically a mess. But then he meets her, and a powerful connection is forged. But the road to happiness is paved with chaos, and instead of him saving someone, he's the one who needs to be saved. I'm fairly new to Victoria L. James, but it didn't take much for me to become fan girl for life. Her talented writing style draws me into her world, and honestly, I want to stay there. Marcus had all the feels to make me an eye leaking, emotional mess, and I wouldn't change a thing, no matter how many colorful metaphors I called her in the process. She took me on a intense journey that gutted me, and then fixed me to gut me again. The evolvement of this closet superhero, Marcus, is a beautiful journey to behold, and by the end, I didn't want to leave his world. I'm super excited to have a new favorite author on the list, and over the top excited to see what she puts out next! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Victoria L James is an enchantress of words, just when you think you have figured out her style, her characters and the direction she is taking you, she reaches in to her mind and puts you further under her spell.

When I was reading Natexus I felt that Marcus was a little bit foolish, that he was setting himself up for a fall. But you see we were manipulated into to thinking this was the case when in fact he knew what he was doing all along.

Marcus is a unique read in that he didn’t become bitter by his past experiences of which you must read Natexus to fully understand his journey to this point. In fact he fully embraced the experience he had had, and learned from it, used it to move forward and build a life he felt he now deserved. A life he felt he had earned. He was looking for his person. His person, not someone else’s person, his person.

And we wanted him to get the life he deserved, he was tempted by the past once more but ultimately he knew he had to but the past behind him and focus on his future.

Marcus is the sort of man that although living through his own kind of hell, never once allows that to show on the outside, he is always warm, friendly, thoughtful and always seems to consider others needs before his own. He sounds perfect, right? The insight into his mind was so well written that you forget that there is a devilish little blonde behind those words. So clever is she that before you realise it Marcus has wormed his way into your heart and all you can think about his him. He is serious book boyfriend material.

I cannot recommend this series enough, Nataxus is a tough journey to take but worth the heartache and finally the enlightenment it brings. Marcus is easier to read in some ways because he is just so damn delicious, but I don’t want you to think that this somewhat takes away from the fact that all the characters in this book have a purpose, there are no passengers. Some we revisit from Natexus, others are new, some come to the forefront and become more to us than they once were and with good reason. The Viking and Danni, Alex and Natalie to name but a few who will surprise you on this journey.

I could babble on and on but ultimately what I am trying to say is this, if you want to take a chance on a series by an author you haven’t read before, this is the one worth your time, you will not regret reading anything by this author. In fact once you start reading books by this author you will plough your way through everything she has published, join the J-Team and make some amazing friends along the way.

Buy Marcus, every home should have one!

5 Sun & Moon Stars

How do you follow up one of the best love stories of 2016? You write one of the best of 2017. Natexus was an A-Ma-Zing book. So complex and painful. And Marcus is the perfect yang to the ying. The Sun to the Natexus Moon.

It's the perfect balance.

Marcus is the sacrificial hero. He is a fixer. He wants to be the one that completes his woman. Makes her whole.

That's me. Always the good guy.

Marcus needs to focus on him. He has spent his whole life being there for other people. Specifically the women he loved and lost. The only way for him to find love is to find himself first. So what does he do? Move back home. Because everyone still needs their momma every now and then.

Come on Marcus..Moping has never really been your style. Your new life starts right here in this room. Back to the start we go

Marcus does have great friends. Among them is Danielle. The beautiful model who doesn't need fixing. She is strong and confident. Not Marcus' type at all. Danni is a straight shooter. She isn't needy or a game player. She challenges Marcus to step outside the rules he has set for himself.

Honesty. Turned out it wasn't something all women ran away from after all.

Marcus, the book, is written in first person. Marcus' voice. A voice a man who wants to love. Wants to be a part of something bigger than himself. Be a part of a whole. His experiences have been with giving his strength to a woman who was not as strong. But he has been broken by his past choices.

There's a loneliness that settles over you sometimes. One that doesn't demand pity or sorrow, a regret for something you lost...

Marcus, the man, is intense. He has only known one speed. Only known how to give completely.

You love too hard, Marcus.

Ms James has given us the story of a guy who must find a way to be a little more selfish. A little more demanding. A little more reluctant to put himself out there. Marcus is such a good guy he needs to protect himself from his own good nature. And he needs a woman who inspires him to want to protect their time together. Inspires him to be selfish with their love.

It would be nice to find someone who would make me glow. Someone who would...change me.

Natexus was the story of sacrifice for love. Marcus is the story of being selfish of love.

Not everything you do in life has to mean something. You don't have to take steps that only move forward. Sometimes dancing side to side can be just as fun.

Marcus is totally swoon-worthy. He is a almost too good to be true. He is the unicorn of men. Introspective. Emotionally available. Confident. Funny. Loyal. Ms James has written a modern fairy tale for women who want it all. Marcus has it all. It. All.

Feel the fear and love me anyway....I dare you.

Damn. Damn, damn, damn, damn. I didn’t want to love Marcus with as much passion as I loved Alex, but gawd I just couldn’t bloody help it. This man, this journey, this love, reached into my chest & squeezed my heart so tight, I wasn’t quite sure if I would survive.

Marcus has a heart as deep & as giving as the universe. He has a beautiful soul, a gorgeous spirit & enough love to give in 10 life times & then some. I hated how his past had him convinced that he was destined to be second best, that his happiness was secondary & loving someone so completely was too much, because seriously, this man could love the bones outta me & I would never EVER get sick of it.

Then we have Danni, now this is a girl with fire in her soul & passion in her veins & quite simply, she rocked my world. Spirited, sexy, sassy & spunky, I seriously grinned right along with her so many times, that my cheeks actually ached. I loved how focused & driven she was, yet equally how self aware & soft her soul was. She shines & sparkles with her entire essence & I was so glad, her love & passion was enough to rival that of Marcus, because they both deserved an extraordinary life full of extraordinary love.

I didn’t think Victoria could beat Natexus, I mean, that book, Alex & Nat, it was epic on every frickin level, so I went into this story never once expecting the sucker punch that this one delivered. But absolute credit to the phenomenal writing, exceptional character portrayal & development & the stunning way every ounce of emotion that was poured into these pages, could be inhaled, touched & lived. My tears flowed, my breath caught, my heart broke, but some how I smiled, against all the odds I laughed & then as this pair stole half my heart, I was slowly put back together again, albeit not quite complete. All was right in my world, location ~ somewhere in Leeds Uk, where these people have fast become my people in every single way.

An extraordinary story of love from an author who has undoubtedly secured her place as one of my unicorns.

I'm glad I've found my 'Marcus' because if I hadn't I'd be asking right now, where I could get me one !! Everybody should be loved like Marcus loves!
In this 3rd book in the series, Victoria James brings us more of Marcus' story... and what a story it is - learning to live again following the loss of his great love we also find out more about his first love and find out just how big his heart truly is. He wears it on his sleeve and doesn't care who sees it. The author truly has created a character who you want to jump right on into the pages to hold (And more lol).
Everything about Marcus has you hoping he finds his HEA and it wasn't long before I hoped I'd read where this was going correctly..
Danni had been a part of the same group of friends but whilst hers and Marcus' paths had crossed they weren't close and it was a joy to watch their developing friendship and the warmth that Danni brought with her.
Would they get closer as they spent time together, could they get closer when her career could take her all over the world, and when her agent very obviously didn't want Marcus anywhere near Danni?
When the author then throws a massive spanner in the works - and has your heart thumping out of your chest for the longest time - you just know you're not going to get much sleep and are in this for the long haul !! I honestly couldn't put this book down and loved every twist and turn it took.
I love this group of friends and hope we get more stories from them!!

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this story. Marcus..... Oh My God, how I wish I could jump in the pages of the book and experience being the women he gives his love to. He is something else and he can have my heart any day. I know that this author can write a book that has me feeling all the way through it and have me on an emotional rollercoaster ride..... I've read Natexus after all. I felt I had to wait a little until she hit me with the words that made me feel this way but she did and for that I am truly grateful. Lots of emotion, a fabulous story and characters who now feel like my friends. I really would love to have Sammy's story. Fingers crossed that book will be written.

No one can express love and feelings as good as Victoria S. James can! She's a genius with words. In combination with Ms. Stock, they're explosive!!!
I'm absolutely fangirling here, but when you read this book you will fall in love with the men in this series and you'll wish for someone to love you soo deep and hard, like Marcus loves his woman, or Alex, or Paul..... Maybe Cam and Sammy need a book, too.....

Sometimes when a series shifts focus to a once supporting character it loses its mojo. That was absolutely NOT THE CASE with MARCUS! "Marcus," with Marcus and Danni as its lead characters, was off the charts sexy, romantic and just beautiful!!

If you're considering reading Marcus, I sincerely hope that you have read Natexus and All the Way already. If not, I strongly encourage you to do so for a multitude of reasons. One, because it will help you to understand just what Marcus has been through to this point. Two, because it is so friggen GOOD and you absolutely need this story in your life….You need to experience all that is NATEXUS; the good, the bad and the ugly cry…I mean ugly. Three, because I said so, that’s why!!!

You will fall in love with the words that Victoria so masterfully pieces together and all the beauty of the hidden messages that are in her stories. They will definitely take you on your own journey of self discovery, while you are simultaneously experiencing the heartache, love, and trials and tribulations of her characters.

Yet again, Mrs. James has taken me on an emotional journey. I laughed. I cried…I cried hard! At one point I was so angry with her for what she did or was about to do to my beloved characters, who I might add have already been to hell and back! When you get to the part you will know exactly what I mean. I swear to God my heart was being ripped out of my chest as I read those words through the blurriest of eyes.

Marcus, God love that man! He’s so kind, caring and always the hero. But I think he needed a hero of his own. I'm not sure what else to say about him. I just know that with every passing chapter I fell further and further in love with him. I loved that I got to witness him come into his own, his personal growth as a man and as a human was a wonderful thing to experience. I wish more people had the courage to live their lives for themselves and not for others or how others expect them to. And, I think Danni gave him the courage to do so.

Then there is Danni, the phrase “she came in like a wrecking ball” totally comes to mind when you read her first appearance in the book. I just fell in love with her from there. She will say anything and let you know exactly where you stand with her and I absolutely loved that about her.

I have to say my favourite “Danni moment” was at this event where her and Marcus attended together. I’m not going to say any more about it than this…I SNORTED!! Yes, you read that right, I laughed so hard I snorted. I still laugh just thinking about that scene!

In short, well this really was anything but, you NEED to read this book! Victoria L. James has a way with words, that will have you coming back for more!

Marcus, Marcus, Marcus… I’ve spent hours upon hours thinking about this book after I finished it. If you’ve read the other books in the series, you know Victoria L. James is not just a talented wordsmith, but an engaging one, and Marcus is no exception.

The story follows on from Natexus, but through the eyes of Marcus Anderson. A man who is a little broken and unsure about life after the curve ball life threw at him. He’s human after all, but he’s not one to just sit back and let life pass him by. Neither will his family or friends allow him to fall apart too much. So he’s dragged along for a while, until life suddenly becomes a lot more interesting for him. You could call this a beautifully written love story – which it is – but it’s also a stunning representation of how life goes on when disaster strikes. How – when no matter how much crap falls on the road ahead of you – a positive attitude, great heart and refusal to give up on yourself or those around you will always bring you something you never knew you wanted to begin with.

I really don’t want to give anything away in this review because I feel like MARCUS needs to be experienced. The characters, the story, the fantastic writing… It all needs to be lived as you read it because it wraps around you and embraces you, it drags you under and consumes you until it’s the only thing you can think about. It took me a while to get over this book hangover, and even now I find myself daydreaming about it.

I really do love the way Victoria writes her characters. Whether it’s the protagonist or some random stranger passing through their lives, they’re memorable, and beautifully written, and they stay with you. When I’d finished reading, I realized that I actually missed them. Without you realizing it, they wind their way around your heart and stay there.

Treat yourself and read this stunning story of heartbreak, self-discovery, betrayal and love, you won’t regret it.

In order to understand Marcus' story you have to start at the beginning in Natexus.

The fun, older brother of Samantha Anderson who was there to save one of her best friends Natalie. a little over 5 years and Marcus' is still drowning and needs saving.

"You need to go for the one chick who doesn't need saving"

His best mate Cameron is there when he needs him, a friend to drink with, to listen when needed and to tell him things he doesn't realize he needs to here.

"I hope this year is the best year of you"

What he found is a close friend in someone we never thought would be there and with that realized he had a bigger support system than he thought.

"I'm holding you. That bitch just broke you apart, and I'm trying to squeeze all your cracks back together"

A love that didn't need saving.

"What took you so long to find me?" she whispered.
"Just be glad I finally did"

And a way to chase his dream with the one he loves.

This story is everything... Although I still swoon for Alex; Marcus is the most genuine, fun-loving friend that any girl would be lucky to have and I absolutely loved his story!

A gripping, enthralling and consuming series that’ll embed itself in your heart and soul…

Right, I’ve been meaning to write this review for a while now. I’d like to say it was procrastination that caused my delay, but the truth is that I really was left speechless. When I was sent this series to review I was told that Natexus wasn’t exactly what I would usually pick up. It’s really sad that that is true, but it’s actually even more depressing that I could’ve missed out on not just this fabulous series, but also learning of a fantastic author… and when I say fantastic, I really do mean it. Victoria L. James is really just beautiful. Her writing is nothing short of flawless, gritty, and awing. Within the first few pages of book #1, Natexus, she had me in rivulets of tears. Proper ugly girl crying, whilst already beginning to love Alex something crazy. I’m not going to say that this was the lightest read of my life— it isn’t that by a long shot, however, it’s also not this complete dark tale. Quite frankly, Victoria has got the perfect balance between the two.

When I went into Natexus I thought that this was going to be more of a YA story— tame and restrained. PC even. I was wrong. Period. Yes, it’s not about raving, wild sex and the romance in this series is something different to most other Contemporary New Adult books around. In a brilliant way. This isn’t a series that goes out of it’s way to make you wet and horny, normally I would probably be a bit put off, but there’s something about this book that goes beyond physicality. This story is all about the angst and turmoil of young love. First, everlasting, love. Here’s the crazy thing, I’m writing this review and my heart is racing and my eyes are tearing up thinking of this story. Maybe that makes me soft, but I think that only proves how amazing and gripping Natexus really is.

So, book #1 (Natexus) is split into two parts. The first being where Natalie and Alex cross paths. This happens in the first chapter and they are pretty quick to establish their roles. The beautiful thing about Victoria’s writing is that whilst telling Nat’s and Alex’s love story, she is also telling their individual stories in the background. From the off you’re faced with grief and loss, and this is something that has a significant impact to their story. I have to be honest, the first quarter of this book I was in LOVE with Alex. He really was nothing short of a perfect male specimen. For a 16 year old boy, he is incredible and the way in which he cares for Natalie leaves your heart smiling. He’s a bit of an enigma, you know him, but it’s not intimate. The second quarter of the book, that changes dramatically. The more you get to know Alex – fully – the more he becomes a dick. There are obvious reasons for it (you’ll have to read the book to find out), but I felt so disappointed by him. I really hoped that he would step-up to the plate and take the reins… I wanted him to keep swimming, but he drowned. It really devastated me, and I have to admit that really made it difficult for me to warm to Marcus.

Marcus is the transition between the young adult and the adult part of the story. Don’t get me wrong, I did grow to love him and that left me really torn up inside because I felt like I was being disloyal to Alex… don’t judge me, these characters feel absolutely and completely real. The second part of Natexus is when the love drama really hits. I think it becomes more serious because they are adults, but also because this is where the demons really come out to play. This is where the proverbial shit hits the freaking fan… boy do things get messed up. God, I sound like such a bitch for enjoying their angst— but, if I was already hooked based on the first part, screw me sideways, the second part left me begging for more even when I got to The End.

All The Way, the novella, I have to say follows in the greatness of Natexus. You get more of Suzie and Paul (Nat and Alex’s best mates), they are still secondary characters, but they also continue to be comedy gold. There weren’t many times that this series had me laughing BUT when I did laugh (and it was a proper L.O.L) it was pretty much because of these two. I’d actually really love a book on just Paul and Suzie. I don’t know why, but in my mind they’re like this 60s couple… yes, I may be a little cuckoo, but in my head it just makes sense. Anywho, back to Alex and Natalie. I thought that All The Way was going to be their happily ever after, but actually it’s really them getting to know each other again and putting their demons to bed. I think that’s what I loved about it. You don’t have this walking off into everybody’s dream sunset where problems magically disappear. I’m not a cynic. I’m not a downer. Not a party-pooper either… I’m a realist. Shit doesn’t just go poof. Even unicorns have crappy black and grey days. Yup, it’s true, they really do!

So, Marcus. Can I just say that I though he was a right idiot. To think that he could just sweep in and save the girl from her demons. But, more the fool me for thinking that of him. He is the man with the plan…ish. I wasn’t sure whether I was going to love this book as much as the previous two, but actually, I was just as enthralled by it. He is just a big cuddly bear that puts everyone before himself. That’s not to say that he hasn’t got his own issues to deal with, but he is very much a closed book in that respect. This guy is just so delectable that he makes this book almost a little facile to read. If that makes sense? Don’t get me wrong, there are some very uncanny similarities with him and Alex and Alex is just as yummy, but essentially Marcus has this aura that entrances you.

I’m so glad that I took a chance on this series. There wasn’t a single character that was a spare part, there wasn’t a single bit that didn’t add to the bigger picture, because there is a bigger picture. It’s funny but everything happens for a reason, even if it isn’t pretty and perfect to begin with— it’s the end that matters. I think that it’s so easy to get lost in the ideals of where we should be, what we should do, who we should be, that we forget that essentially this is a transient journey and that the pieces will fall where they are meant to. You know, fate will do as she pleases. I think that sums up the plot of this series. I really cannot recommend Natexus enough. It will grab you, rip you apart and somehow put you back together.

OMG where do I start with this book, when in Natexus you thought that Marcus was just the regular guy that loved and saved and lost, you get this book and fall in love with him so hard, he is perfection.

After losing Nat, and then Alice asking him to wait another five years for her, little did he know that Danni heard every word and was there to rescue him

The love between Danni and Marcus was so real, so deep, she was the one in control of saving him this time and made him a better man.

Marcus was always the man there for his friends no matter what, even Alex, who by rights he should hate but they became best friends. he even helped with the proposal!

I loved the way the friends all appeared in this book, all supportive for each other, Loved the introduction of Cameron who was a good friend and fancied the pants off Sammy.

No matter what book I read from this Author she always gets to me, hits all the emotions with amazing story telling.

I loved Marcus in the first two books in the series and I still loved his character, but I am starting to find this series too sappy for my taste. Everything about the other person is perfection, there are no flaws and nothing is annoying, it's all wonderful. Even Marcus and Alex's relationship was getting too bromancy for me, considering how they were in the past two books.

Overall, the story was pretty good, if a bit too long.....maybe if all the endless descriptions of fabulousness were cut out, it would have been better. Also, I wasn't really a fan of Marcus just having no real life plan, even by the end of the book. Is he just going to follow Danni around the world forever?

I think these reasons are why it took me so long to finish the book. I put it down for a really long time before picking it up again and finishing it.

Fantastic novel from start to finish!
I was intrigued by this book. I absolutely loved Natexus and the follow-up novella - All The Way, so purchasing this novel was a no-brainer for me. I was desperate to get to know and love Marcus as much as I loved Natalie and Alex, and Victoria L James has not disappointed me! This character has been made so real by the author's words that he leapt from the pages of the book! All of the emotions that Marcus goes through in the book have been so well detailed that I felt them too - I absolutely love books that make me feel, and this one gave me ALL the feels. I fell in love with Marcus just as I hoped I would, and I cannot wait for the next installment

Despite reading this book or of order and despite already knowing how this story ended it didn't interrupt the flow of Danni and Marcus and how their love grew. Alex and Natalie ensure that Marcus is not pushed out of the group and include him in their social scene, despite Marcus feeling a little depressed and lonely. Marcus is even invited along on the group's break when they journey to Greece to stay with Danni who is seeking her dream of becoming a model. Danni sees Marcus potential even is he doesn't and things go back and forth between them. When Alex and Marcus almost die in an accident both men decide life is too short to not tell the person they love the most how mush they do. Marcus just hopes third time is lucky.
