descriptionNot a fan of this cover. It's generic and boring.description

description I enjoyed this book but I didn't love it. The writing was fairly good. The plot was interesting. The pace was a bit up and down. I wouldn't say there was really much angst and there wasn't any OW/OM drama. It had some interesting secondary characters. The hero was intriguing but underdeveloped in my opinion, and the heroine was a straight up bitch.

I did have a few issues that caused me to lower my rating somewhat. First, this book was LONG. Incredibly LONG and SLOW. To say this was a slow burn would be an understatement. By the time I hit 60%, I felt that the book was stagnating and I started losing interest. Which had the unfortunate result of making me become nitpicky about little things like the heroine repeatedly saying "she didn't know what date it was or how much time had passed since they have been taken." I just kept thinking why don't you just ASK someone what the damn date is!? Unfortunately, it never picked back up again and just started to feel repetitive and tedious to get through.

description

I also was sick of the heroines constant negativity and whining about EVERYTHING. Instead of trying to embrace their new life she acted like a bitch and complained nonstop. Three-quarters into a book I expect some movement on the romance front between the hero/heroine and I just wasn't getting any. ONE kiss he forced on her, and that was it. I mean she plans on killing him at 86%! By that time we should already be invested in them as a couple, but they were NEVER even a couple until the last few pages of the book.

I think this one had a lot of potential to be something great; the bones were all there alas there was just too much filler and not enough character development. Heck, I STILL don't even know what exactly Nic does!description

I loved the blurb of this romance with the theme of overcoming adversity to find love and freedom. I loved the author’s use of imagery and the landscapes of the locales of the story were picture perfect. I felt cool river water and hot beating sun.

Where there I found I a disconnect with this book was it was too slow of a burn for me. I wanted to love these characters but they didn’t stretch and grow in a timely manner. I really wanted Tatum and Nic’s relationship to take flight but it didn’t quite make it off the ground.

OMG! This is definitely one of my favorite reads so far this year! I could NOT put this book down and I struggle to find the right words to describe it. My emotions were all over the place - from love to hate, from anger and angst - this book had it all!! The characters and the story were so intriguing!! This is a story of unconventional love and family. It is a story of heartbreak and shattered dreams - a story of intrigue and mystery - a story of love lost and of love found in the most unexpected place. It is definitely a must read!!❤️

I received a ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I am new to this author and received this book by chance and can I just say I am very happy that I did. I could not put it down and did not want to !!!

For Love or Freedom is wonderful story about finding love in an unexpected and uncertain place. Tatum and Tulsie are kidnapped one night and taken to a secluded ranch in the middle of Mexico. This ranch belongs to Nicandro Lobo, a man who after a brief encounter fell deeply in love with Tatum. Nic believes he is saving Tatum. Tatum does not agree, at first. For Love or Freedom is a book about second chances, healing and finding love all over again. The love that Nic feels for Tatum is displayed and played out in an unconventional way but beautiful none the less. Tatum must open her heart and allow herself to feel something for someone new. This book is well written, the characters are strong and draw you in and hold you from the get go. I very much loved this book and can not wait to read everything I can by Lili Mahoney. Great book !!!!

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
This story is so very different from your usual romance. I'm not even sure I can put it into a category, Tatum is such a strong woman who goes through so much yet remains strong for her daughter. There is drama, intrigue and some serious romance going on. I won't lie, I did shed more than a few tears but it was well worth it!! Hope you enjoy this story as much as I did.

"A story that is going to consumes you entirely"

I was provided with an advanced ARC copy by Enticing Journey for exchange of my honest review.

In the name of love you do unbelievable things; acts which coming from deep inside your soul, with the necessity only to provide, happiness. Unfortunately, there is the other side of the same coin that, these same acts have an opposite, unwelcomed effect, hate. In the name of freedom, however, you don't act instinctively, each move you take is planned to precise, leaving nothing to chance. It's you or your life in a...forever prison.

"The presence of a man in my world generally meant trouble in one way or the other, so I generally avoided them as much as possible" - Tatum

The storyline For the Love or Freedom has is one of the most unexpected, captivated, gripping ones I had the chance to read. Love and hate; happiness and pain; self-confidence and depression; be free or be trapped; the future or the past; are feelings and situations which were all tangled together into the story creating, inside me, a hurricane of mixed emotions everytime I red the next chapter.

Following the journey of a young mother, Tatum, and her daughter's Tulsie wasn't an easy task. I met them at a river side, in Texas, both playing together into the water away from their family. It was cleared from the beginning that the relationship between Tatum and her in-laws wasn't being in a pleasant level. In the middle of this unpleasant atmosphere, Tatum felt an unexpected connection with a man who screamed bad news from afar yet she let him crawled into her thoughts, helping her to get away from her reality which was so cruel to her lately. Tatum and her daughter were both abducted in the middle of the night, the same day after Tatum met this man. They were treated inhumanly. The scenes that took place felt so real, the cruelty of the situation was top palpable. What in the world a young woman with her five years old daughter would do at these moments? The same Tatum did for the sake of her daughter's life and hers. Stay strong! The kidnappers took them away, far deep into the jungle of Mexico and into a huge property surrounded with high walls and a gun guards. The property was a beautiful paradise for Tulsie but for Tatum was a golden cage.

Tatum was a strong, independent woman, married to a marine who was killed in a mission, when Tulsie was almost one year old. She wasn't lucky in her life. Losing her most precious people in her life too soon, her hasbund included, made her value the gift God gave her, not letting her lose her way; her daughter Tulsie. She was her anchor, her life vest, the air, the whole world. Keeping Tulsie safe and unharmed was her first priority. Tulsie's happiness was her daily mission despite the circumstances because only then Tatum knew that she's a good mother to her, a person her daughter will always turn to. However, the abduction and the place they both had to live in had different effects on both of them. The property was a huge playground in the eyes of Tulsie, with a variety of plants and animals ready to be discovered. The people who lived in the property was welcomed and kind to both of them; despite the way and the why Tatum and Tulsie came, everyone was happy to have them there.

But Tatum wasn't happy. The weeks and months she was there was living hell. The life she had, her home, her job everything started to seem that weren't going to given back again. Her daily routine was to keep happy and pleased Tulsie; nothing else mattered for her. She couldn't let herself connect with anyone in the house. However, everything switched after a terrible accident. Then, the pieces of the puzzle, about their abduction, started to connect and clear off the reasons she and her daughter were there. Not in her wildest dreams she would expect her savior in her dreams would be transformed into the kindnapper in her reality. After that revealation, Tatum's world shooke inside out. The inner fight between her mind and her body's reactions about that man was extinguished. His deep love declarations meant nothing to her. Not when his acts shown a dangerous, arrogant man who had torn her and her daughter from the world they lived. However, nothing seems to be what it really looked like. In the end it was only a choose for Tatum. A choice for love or for freedom.

Breathtaking and riveting, For Love or Freedom, is a story that deserves everyone to read it, even only for one time. The turmoil, the anxiety, the grief, the lose, the depression Tatum felt throughout the story were captured perfectly, the reality of them palpable in every single page. She was fighting hard an unknown enemy, like any mother would do for her child's life rescue, yet when her own child turned their back on her was an other war to try to win. The narration was only from Tatum's perspective. However it was clear to the reader, that her decisions weren't always right. How they would be right after all, when she had to endure these situations alone having priority her child's safety? Tatum's thoughts and words easily put me in her place; she made me cry oh-so-much; she made me laugh having happy tears in my eyes yet so easily. I was connected with her being a mother myself. These mixed feelings were a challenge to keep reading and not be willing to let go until I finish the book. It was beautifully narrated, attached Tatum's past when was necessary giving the proper messages about her character and who she really was. I found incredible talented the writing style of the author! It was fluent and impressive, developing with an inderscribable easiness a situation like an abduction compined with something forbidden, like love. Yes, I had read books in the past, that illustated the love the abducted felt for their kindnapper but this book provides things a bit more, a bit more intensed. Hope I intrigued your imagination and made you grab the book yourselves and find out what's happening.

Until next time, enjoy your free time reading great books with unforgettable stories.

4.5 Stars-
For Love or Freedom is an engaging read, and one that will take you on the rollercoaster ride of emotions. Anger, sadness, hope, fear, happiness and love- to name a few. No matter what you take away from this story, one thing is for certain, you will feel!

From the moment he locks eyes with Tatum, Nicandro Lobo feels their deep connection. Nic is a man who always gets what he wants and what he wants is to whisk Tatum and her daughter away with him. So, he does- kidnap them, that is. Is what Nic did wrong? Absolutely, yes. But you will later learn that he thought he was saving Tatum and Tulsie, giving them a better life. And although warped, his true intentions were not to harm them. Tatum is a strong woman and a protective mother who always puts her daughter first. In the beginning, she acts towards Nic just as you would expect, hateful and angry. But as time passes and she and her daughter get to know Nic and his family more, her anger and resistance to her new life begins to dissipate. Her mind struggling with what she does feel and how she thinks she should feel.

For love or for freedom, that is the question? Does Tatum stay and accept the love she holds in her heart not only for Nic but for her new life and the people she has become close to? Or does she try to leave and fight for her and Tulsie’s freedom? Or, perhaps she can have both, love and freedom. Perhaps she is already free. Free from her previous life and “family” that didn’t exactly treat her as such.

This is the first novel I read by Lili Mahoney and it was intriguing, mysterious and unique. If you are looking for a story of unconventional love, found under unexpected circumstances in unexpected places, then this one’s for you!

For Love or Freedom is a wild ride of hurt, intrigue, hope, and love.

I can definitely say this really isn't a traditional love story and the trope is one I have not always cared for in the past... a captor falling in love with the man who has taken her. However, I wanted to read this with an open mind and found myself enjoying many parts of the story.

Tatum is fierce and independent, puts her daughter first which is nice to read about. So many books with children just kind of brush them to the side as afterthoughts but not here. Tulsie, her daughter, is a scene stealer so beware!

Nic... I liked him but not without conflict. After all, he did kidnap a woman and her child, regardless that he thought he was doing the right thing. Tatum's previous life wasn't exactly pleasant with her in-laws treating her so poorly... but still. Falling in love with your captor isn't always an easy thing to read about.

Lili does a great job with her descriptions of setting and painting a picture so you can see the story playing out. That said, the book is a little long and sometimes wordy. But if you can get past that, the story really is an enjoyable one. The pacing can fluctuate. Sometimes a little slow, sometimes steady but again... if you keep reading, I think you won't be sorry by the time you're done.

I found this story somewhat enjoyable, but just a little off putting. If you've read at least this first novel in "The Monster Trilogy" by Marissa Farrar, then take that story and throw in children and a christian believe system. I found the story itself enjoyable as I got to experience the terror of a woman and her child being abducted and transferred to an unknown location, and then see how she slowly ends up falling in love with the man that ordered their abduction. I think most women out there will enjoy this story, especially if you are a fan of ideas like finding love in unexpected places.

That being said, here are the hard truths that most likely apply to me only (so don't take it personal). I personally did not appreciate the religious tie ins this story contained, or the process that a pregnant woman has to go through. I am not a strong believer in any one religion, so I sped past the mentions of god and faith and waited for the next interesting thing to happen while reading this novel. Since I, myself, have no children and no plans to have children in the future, the process is unappealing and I'd much rather avoid reading about it if I can spare myself. That being said, I still feel that most women will probably enjoy reading this book. I was given a copy of this book to read and share my honest opinion about.

Tatum is a widow with a super smart daughter named Tulsie. While at a family event, they are kidnapped from Tatum's in- laws house. They find themselves at a secluded ranch in the middle of Mexico owned by a man named Nicandro Lobo. After coming face to face with Tatum once, he finds himself in love, and he believed she was in danger, so he decided to save her in his own controlling way. Now he must try to make her see his love, and hope that she will grow to love him in return. This is all I can give as a description, but know this, there is so much more to this story. First of all let me say that Tulsie was my very favorite, as she was the perfectly placed humor in this story that kept me laughing hard. This is the first book by Lili Mahoney, and I found that she has a talented writing style that transported me to Mexico along with Tatum. Nicandro grew on my quickly, even though he had an unconventional way of showing love. I didn't get as invested with Tatum, because she grated on my nerves with all of her push and pull, and I really wanted to shake her. Then, the ending was a bit too rushed in my opinion, and I can't really give examples without giving spoilers away. I can honestly say that I would really love seeing more of Tatum and Nicandro in the future, but in the meantime, I am excited to see this author to evolve even further in her talent. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Lili knocked it out of the park with this one. I am a sucker for stories about love in unexpected places, but had no idea that this would be one of those stories. I fell in love with Tulsie and Tatum from the first few pages though throughout the book there were some parts that made me want to smack Tatum on the side of the head. I feel that's a good thing in this case because it wasn't an annoyance with her so much as being so engulfed in her story. Being a Texas gal at heart there were many parts I could relate directly to, and often felt transported to being right there on the Frio or in the middle of Mexico. Lili Mahoney has a wonderful way with words that allows you to see, feel, and smell the world within the book without becoming so overly descriptive you get bored. As a swimmer I felt she described what swimming does for a swimmer perfectly which is not an easy feat for many writers who tend to miss the mark. The book in its entirety is an easy and enjoyable read. I'd love to see what the future holds for all of these characters particularly Holden.

This book was different and refreshing. Tatum is a strong, fiercely independent woman who has been through so much in her young life. Nic is a very smart man who is fiercely protective of those he loves. A chance encounter and instant connection changes everything for the two of them. At the start of the book I was angry and torn up at how Tatum is treated by so called family, then I was anxious and on edge when she and Tulsie are taken from all that they know – then Lili changed it up and threw in an unconventional ‘learning how to let go and love again’ story – I was all over the place with emotions by that point – anger, fear, tearful, happy – you name it she had it in this book. I love Nic and Tatum but also adored the secondary characters and I loved how Lili gave you a glimpse into their lives, strengthening the storyline and showing that family is whatever you need and want it to be. A beautifully written book I highly recommend!

While on vacation with her daughter Tatum catches the eye of Nic. It was something about his eyes, but after retrieving her daughter's shoe she walks away. In her mind she conjures up what kind of guy he is. Then her and her daughter are kidnapped. As she's trying to stay calm she pictures that he's going to save her from the bad men, not knowing he is the bad man. From the first time he laid eyes o Tatum Nic is mesmorized, then he tries to save her from a bad situation. He goes about it all wrong but for the right reasons. Tatum has a hard time forgiving him, and it makes her madder that she's attracted to him and her daughter loves him. They bring a joy to Nic and his household that was missing .But she's trying hard to fight it. I do wish that Tatum would have given in a little earlier. I got frustrated with her fighting so hard because she was making herself crazy. I would have loved to seen more of there relationship together. Because the same things she was trying to teach her daughter was bad manners were the same thing she was doing to Nic.

Love is found in unexpected places. Tatum and Nic meet under unusual circumstances and what follows is a riveting story line that just reels you in as you anticipate what will happen between the two.

Tatum is a mom, who Nic feels needs to be saved. I can't go into much, I feel like everything is a spoiler!

For Love or Freedom has a riveting storyline, characters who invoke all kinds of emotions. While I felt that they could have been a bit more, it did not detract much from the story. I would recommend this to the reader looking for a very involved, emotional tale.

Its about a girl named Tateum (i probaby spelled that wrong) who recently became a widow she was visiting her in laws who dont think much of her only for her daughters sake so she can keep/in touch with that side of the family. She ends up encountering a biker when her daughter loses a shoe and he manages to find it....little does she know this encounter would change her life forever

I was given an ARC for an honest review.
This book was very well written and pulls you in for the ride. I felt the fear and protection of Tatum for her daughter and herself. The burning questions and the desire to go home. Can she fall in love with a man who says he saved them both from an evil they wouldn't see coming or will she continue to be afraid.

Tatum was dealt a bad hand . Married to Joe, who was "killed" in combat. She's left with the most awful in laws that are constantly attacking her or get mothering skills 😲😤😡there were times I felt I could dish out a bitch slap or few !

It's actually on a family get together that she "meets" Nic the first time . He sends shivers up her spine ....and mine

Tatum is a brilliant mamma. A mamma that is devoted and knows no end to her love. A few lessons can be learnt ..... Tulsie , my dear sweet angel child will steal your heart 💕 she could melt any ice queen!

Nic is a little unorthodox to say the least and his methods of getting his instant family leaves much to be desired ! Look his heart is in the right place and the sick dark puppy in me loves him 💕

This is one of those reads that's got a little bit of this and a little bit of that . It grabs your attention from the start and keeps it . However , I must warn you that this isn't a conventional love story or HEA,having said that I loves reading every page !

Wow! What a fantastic story! It's definitely NOT your typical romance, but I LOVED it. The story was unique, exciting, chilling, and romantic all in one. I also LOVE stories with a strong female and Lili did just that with Tatum. I wasn't sure what was going to happen at any point which made this an extra delight. Just when I thought something would, something else did. Both Nic and Tatum drove me crazy at times, but that's when you know it's an awesome story.

I LOVED Lili's first book, Barefoot Pastures, and I LOVE this one too. Here writing style clearly moves with the characters. Keep on writing, Lili! I'm excited to see what you come up with next.

Tatum had everything she could have ever wanted . The love of her life and her precious daughter Tulsie, until in a heartbeat one she held dear was taken away.
Now she must figure out a way to press on without her rock and raise their daughter as best she can amongst family members that shun their very existence .
One unguarded move Tatum makes sends her and her daughters world into a tailspin as they're taken from the world they know and thrust into captivity with a new family , surroundings and a war with the unpredictable man who had to have them.
..............Or is this battle within Tatum herself ?

Let me start off by saying this was a Beautifully written love story . Great For Mother's Day .
It's one of those storylines where you think you know what will happen by the cover and Synopsis , but believe me you have no Idea and there is an HEA , even thought you don't see it coming .
I loved the characters each one of them clearly has a bold personality that keeps you intrigued whether you hate or love them in those moments .
Tatum , she is just a mom trying to keep her daughter safe , sometimes too safe ,while trying to endure and overcome their captivity while striving for Freedom .
She is Strong in many ways , even if she doesn't believe it as Nic , her captor slowly whittles his way into her heart.
I loved that both mother and daughter could escape there sometimes cruel reality by riding a horse, Black Angel , that Horse, I believe was their true Freedom and solace .
Certain parts of the story I felt every emotion the author placed upon these characters abandonment, heartache , anger ,loneliness ,joy and love as the drama played out on these gripping pages .
Can Tatum learn to let go of the past and fall in love with Nicandro ?
I'm not giving anything away , you'll have to read the book and go on this journey yourself.

Aye ya yie!! I started reading this book and from the get go, it had me hooked! This story is about Tatum and her daughter, Tulsie, and how they've been adjusting to life. Tatum has always been harshly criticized by her in laws and one day while out with them swimming, she sees a man who made her catch her breath. Instantly turning her head so her in laws wouldn't say something harsh. When all of a sudden something happens and she's not at home anymore. Tatum and Tulsie have been kidnapped and held in a secluded place in the middle of Mexico, with a language barrier to boot. Who kidnapped them? Where exactly were they? And who is that mysterious stranger that hides in the shadows so he won't be seen? You must read this book now to find out what happens to them and if love can happen in an unconventional situation. The book flowed great, the characters were described amazing that I could picture each one in my head. And for the record, I wouldn't mind both Holden and Nic lol. My emotions were all over the place from anger, sadness, love, respect, friendship, understanding and many more. I need more of these characters as I love each and every one of them. Amazing job Lily Mahoney!!

For Love or Freedom is an excellent book about finding love when you least expect it. We first meet Tatum, a single mother, and her daughter Tulsie while they're trying to have a relaxing day at the river. While there a motorcycle gang decides to crash the party and while Tatum might find one of the men a little intriguing she knows they are bad news.

This book quickly takes a terrifying turn when Tatum and her daughter are kidnapped. You'll be swept away by this book, full of suspense, emotions, and eventually passion. Tatum is scared and angry that her freedom has been taken, but Nic found them captivating and truly believed he was offering the girls a better life. What happens when the best of intentions are filled with skewed choices?

This story is well written, and the characters are well developed. It's a great read from beginning to end when Tatum will have to decide what's more important, Love or Freedom?

Lili Mahoney has taken me by complete surprise. I didn't know what to expect when I started reading this book, and I wasn't prepared for the emotions that seeped from the pages.

I was engaged from the get go, and the emotional rollercoaster ride Mahoney took me on has kept me glued to the pages while on the edge of my seat.

The story is unconventional, and I wasn't sure if I would be able to accept the characters and some of their actions. However, Mahoney masterfully tackled my doubts with her easy flowing words. (This author has some mad skills!) This story is very well written, and I was pleasantly surprised with how many feels I felt while reading it. That is what makes a good book to me!

I never add any spoilers to my reviews, so I will stop now, but I recommend this book!

This book is a perfect example why you have to give the story a chance. Honestly even after reading the first three chapters, I wasn’t sure if this was a book for me. I’m so glad that I read on.

Will you give up your freedom for love??? I found myself torn between my heart and mind. Questioned myself, how I felt the way I did. So many Out-Loud conversations with myself happened while reading this story, Why?? What were you thinking??? So many reasons to Love the characters that almost felt wrong to Love!

If you want to read something different, this is the book for you. Nicardo Lobo, The Victorious Wolf will be a man you will be calling out for.

This is a new author for me, and my word, I was not disappointed! Tatum loses her husband, and ends up being kidnapped with her daughter by Nic. No spoilers though, give this one a go for yourself!
This story is well written, with a hate / love relationship, as well as packed with emotion, drama, angst, intrigue, hope, fear, and happiness. I was hooked and intrigued from the very beginning of this book, and could not put down until finished. I look forward to reading more of this authors work in the future.

This is my first read by Lili Mahoney and definately will not be my last. I love strong women, especially those who are unaware of their strenght. Tatum is a heroine for me. I fell in love with her early on. She is a survivor . Nic on the other hand, grew on me. I admit they both made me want to slap the side of tbeir heads a time or two. A romance that made me feel, I chuckled, laughed, cried and fell in love with the characters. Couldn't ask for any thing more from an author. I definately recommend this book and look foward to reading more from Lili Mahoney.

This is a very unique and different story. I feel it is one of those books that will either grab you from the start or you just will not connect with. My feelings fell somewhere in the middle. I thought the pacing was somewhat slow and I could never really make a connection with the heroine. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.

Wow! Just, wow! I had a certain idea of where this book was possibly going and I was still surprised at what happened and how it all turned out. I highly recommend this! This is not your typical romance read. I'm sure some readers might not like it, but it's different...in a good way. Read it and find out.
