Mine to Have was EVERYTHING!!! It was action packed, entertaining, and kept me on the edge of my seat. From Mellina and Jayson almost hooking up several times but kept being interrupted each and every time, to dying to find out who the killer was. Mellina and Jayson were not only perfect as partners but, they were great together as a couple. There wasn't a lot of drama surrounding their relationship. Jayson has been single and celibate for the last year since he became a single dad. His main focus was raising Laiyah so, he wasn't looking for any kind of courtship. It was love at first lust for Mellina. She wanted her some Jayson from the minute they were introduced. Once their attraction to each other was established, they went with it. There was no fighting or pretending on either of their parts. They just let the relationship progress naturally. Now, Mellina did have some baggage regarding her dad but, fortunately, she was able to work that out so she could move forward with Jayson. I wanna say I was shocked once the killer was revealed but, I really wasn't. I kind of figured out who it was as the case progressed. Just as I predicted, Laiyah stole the the show. She was the real star of this book. Well, her and Junie. Junie had me hollering from page one! She's the cousin we all deserve. AshleyNicole deserves a standing ovation with a slow clap because, Mine to Have was phenomenal.

Jayson & Mellina was too cute. This story follows Jayson who is Jaylens brother. Jayson was focused on his career and his daughter. Jayson and Mellina are partners working a case. Jayson looking out for those in his community was nice.

Mellina x Jaysen

Although this book was not super action based IMO, it was super good. I did want more actions and I did want more gün play. But the suspense did keep on edge. Like who could it be? But the chemistry between Mellina and Jaysen and the who-done-it for sure made up for it. This was sort of a slow burn cause life kept getting in the way. Baby Laiyah is the real MVP of this story. Junie, the bff was wild but I loved it.
Super fun story!!

Can I get a slow clap for AshleyNicole? Because this book was EVERYTHING.

Picked it up on a whim because I saw the police badge on the cover, read the synopsis really quick and to be quite honest...I love me a nice cop story. So the fact that there was romance mixed in and the characters are Black. BONUS!

I absolutely loved this book from beginning to end. It was everything I look for in a book. Jayson and Mellina are detectives in different departments in the New Haven Connecticut police department. Jason is Gang Unit and Mellina is Homicide. They're brought together to solve a string of murders that are going unsolved where the killer seems to be targeting troubled young gang members. Mellina is new on the force and this would be a big break for her career and a chance to prove to her chauvinistic colleagues that she has what it takes to be ranked with the best of the best on the force. Jayson is invested because he's built a relationship with a lot of the kids in these gangs of living the street life and doesn't want to see their lives taken from them before they have a chance to come to their senses and pull their lives together.

They spend hours upon hours together trying to solve the case and as you can imagine, when two healthy and attractive young people get together, things can get a little bit hot.

What I loved about reading this book and what I wish other authors would work at accomplishing with their books, was the immense amount of time spent on character development, in addition to the development of Jayson and Mellina's relationship while STILL sticking to the actual plot of the story.

There is nothing I hate more, than when a synopsis promises one plot in a book and then the actual plot just turns out to the be the two love interests banging every chance they get. If I want to read a porno, I'll just read a ZANE novel.

Ahsley didn't do that. We get to KNOW Jayson and his beautiful daughter Laiyah who is as much in love with Moana as I am. We get to KNOW Mellina and her crazy ass cousins Junie and Janie. We get an in depth look at both of these characters lives and the people they surround themselves with and love and they all play a PIVOTAL role in the entire story and I loved it all! These scenes with Jayson, his family and friends and Mellina with her cousins and grandmother, excited me just as much as all the scenes with just Jayson and Mellina.

JUST PERFECT!

And then to top it off a goddamned murder mystery! Ashley done out-did herself with this one. This is the first book I have read by her but when I tell you this was a PHENOMENAL first impression. GO HEAD GIRL!

I'm going to say it again....CAN WE GET A SLOW CLAP STARTED FOR ASHLEYNICOLE! Read this book...it was everything...EVERYTHING.

Jayson really is the man! 🥰

Melina August was adjusting to her new precinct and was pulled onto a new case with Jayson Rivers. Imagine meeting someone so fine that you forget your name lmao! He said August and she said it’s December as in the month lmao! My girl was a goner from the jump! Jayson was BDE and had single dad going for him! All the ladies wanted him but he wasn’t on that. His main focus was his daughter and his career. He was pulled into the case because of his familiarity with the community and knowing he could get more information by already having the trust. This case was heartbreaking because the serial killer was attacking this neighborhood and it was becoming close to home for Jayson. While navigating this case the attraction between Jayson and Mellina is strong but everyone and their momma were blocking lmao! This story I enjoyed seeing the romance between these two at the front of the book compared to the previous book. Don’t let that fool you the case still played a big role and even confused another heartbreaking situation for the killer being involved! The issues Mellina has with her parents broke my heart and I’m glad that was resolved because it did play into her reservations with Jayson and Laiyah! Also just like in the last book, I didn’t guess the killer lmao! I would’ve been a terrible detective because I didn’t see it lol. Overall great story!

Love Partners

I enjoyed this story, and appreciated the original story line.
Jayson the fine as$ big brother from "Mine to Keep," is finally willing to entertain a woman after a year of solely focusing on his babygirl Laiyah. Laiyah is still a sweet sour patch and you can't help but love her and her big personality. The way they described him with his out of this world fineness, that beard, his love for his babygirl, and his fun sweet demeanor had me looking for him in the streets 🕵🏿‍♀️. He is asked to help out with a case and is partnered up with Mellina. His extreme focus is immediately tested.
Mellina is an understated beauty that does her best to do her job and stay out of the way. Unfortunately for her, the chemistry between her and Jayson cannot be avoided. Especially after witnessing how much of a hands on father he was, it made him that much more appealing. Mellina's family issues threaten their special connection. As she finds her truths, she is able to find love and accept it too.

Loved Junie's crazy self. She definitely added some flavor to the story.

Overall a solid read that will keep you engaged and bought in to these characters.

Didn't I tell You all Ashely Nicole was Dope

Hey, did I also mention that this just might be my favorite Ashley Nicole novel. I guess some people were complaining about the kids in another book. And I say to them.... What is wrong with you? Baby Laiyah stole my heart...Jayson and Melina were just so much fun. I like characters that jump off the pages and grabs one by the throat. Junie was that character. I never knew what her crazy behind was going to say next. The suspense and a romance in a story, my favorite. This story was a romantic comedy, a suspense story with a lot of funny, laugh out loud moments. This author is one to watch.... 5+ Stars....

This.Book.Gave.Me.LIFE!!!!! I LOVED Jayson and Mellina... oh and Lil Lai too! The characters were well-developed, the build up of them finally making it happen was anticipatory and the supporting cast was the icing on the cake.

Mellina showe up with her ish together (well mostly) and unintentionally worked herself into Jayson and Lailah's lives. And she was a great fit.

For the last year Jayson has dedicated himself to raising his daughter as a single father. His mind was 100% Lailah all the time, and Mellina came through like a wrecking ball.

This story just gave me the warm and fuzzies.... and even though I don't wanna admit it, I spent a portion of my day watching Moana... so sad! LOL

I'm ready for more in this series.

Mellina and Jayson...Meh mystery and romance

I liked Jayson and Mellina as Police Detectives. Loved Jayson as Laiyah's father. Loved Mellina as Junie and Janie's cousin. Loved their rapport. Just did not like, love, or even buy them as a couple.

Maybe if the book took place over months and not weeks I could've bought their relationship.

The romance between Mellina and Jayson didn't feel real and authentic. Would he have even had any interest in her if they hadn't started working together? Their whole quick romance felt like it was no more than convenient proximity. Jayson was apparently the most beautiful man God ever created, so of course Mellina (along with every other woman in this book and the previous book) would want him. Even her cousins drooled over him. Mellina, however, was without any suitors, which I see as a problem just waiting to happen. A man should never be that much more attractive than his woman - just my opinion.

My other issue with this book is that there were things that made no sense (the situation that happened with Laiyah) and others that were wrapped up too perfectly (Mellina and her father-twenty years of distance solved with a fifteen minute conversation). There was so much time invested in the case of the murdered boys, and in the end, it was anti-climactic to say the least.

Though this is not my favorite AshleyNicole book by far, it was still a decent read with some pretty funny scenes. Junie was the MVP, I would love to see her get her own book.

Mannnnn! This book had me smiling, crying, and laughing out loud. It was so, so good! First of all, I love a good detective story, and the seriousness of these gang execution killings is what first drew me to the book. I loved the way the author wrote the investigation part of this story. It was written just juicy enough to keep me interested in the whole suspense of it all. Then there's Det. Jayson Rivers from the Gang Unit and Det. Mellina August from Homicide. Apparently Jayson was beautiful and so irrestible, he had all the women wanting to "climb him like a tree!" But he was more than just his looks. He truly cared about the people of his community and cemented his reason for becoming a police officer by trying to get rid of gangs in the area and also working to steer the youth back onto the right path. Mellina's desire to bring closure to the families of the victims of homicide is what made her a great detective. And she was no slouch in the looks department either. Let's not forget that she tried to keep all that gorgeousness hidden under plain, baggy clothes and pinned up hair. LOL! These two characters were so awesome and the chemistry between them was hot.🔥 Yes, this was a bit of a slow burn in the romantic sense, but it allowed me to sit back and enjoy seeing the hero and heroine truly get to know each other. Ooh, and Jayson's daughter Laiya was just too adorable!🥰

And while we're discussing characters, can we just take a moment to acknowledge the true comedic genius of this author and the crazy and lovable characters that she created to carry out the humor in this story?! There were parts where I laughed until I had tears coming out of my eyes! Even the material that some would consider borderline vulgar had me choking with laughter! That crazy detective, Stokes...what in the world?!! He was a riot! The grandmother and Mellina's twin cousins, Junie and Janie were hilarious; especially Junie! Like Junie was STUPID-stupid...crazy stupid! After the fifth time she made me spit out my drink, I just put my hands up in surrender and was like "I just can't with her" because she was just too much...in the best way possible!😂😂

This story packed quite a punch because it was filled so much! I did catch some of those spelling mistakes/misused words, but I really enjoyed this book.

****************Mini-Spoiler****************

My only complaint: The father got off way too easy once Mellina decided to hear him out. I felt that she was very much justified in being angry with her father because she was just a child when all of this was going on, and that's why she felt abandoned. Yes, the stepmother had been trifling all those years, but her father should have made more of an effort to find out what was going on and why. He should have gone to see little Mellina for himself, regardless of what was said. Like even if you thought your child was saying that she didn't want to see you, how you let a child tell you what they want?! (Even though that was coming from the stepmother). Wouldn't you want to know why? Why didn't he ever speak to his own child directly?! It just seem like he let the stepmother be a go-between all the time because it was easier for him. There is no way that the stepmother just had to be the only one communicating with Mellina.🙄And why wait until she was an adult before you decide to want to talk and figure things out?! By the time Mellina was an adult, of course the damage was already done?! I'm all about forgiveness, but he got off a little too easy by blaming everything on the skanky stepmother when he could been more active in the comunication process with little Mellina.

Mellina x Jayson

I really like that Mellina was this bad ass woman cop that came from another precinct & was unapologetically doing her job. Not caring about making friends & also not a mean girl, sis was literally in homicide solving shit left & right. & Then captain puts her on this giant case that will make/break her career & they just had to add in gorgeous ass Jayson. As Quaya (Noelle sister from book one) said, Jayson smells like baby lotion & orgasms so imagine how he looks 😍 Mellina caught Jayson eye the first time they met too. He just played it off better than her. Honestly, my fave thing about Jayson is Laiyah 😂 Like how you a grown ass man letting your TODDLER boss you around. But he knew what was up. Jayson was heavy in these single father streets & he didn't play about that. I was honestly taken aback when he went toe to toe with his mom, but so proud. Like ma'am, you are doing the most & that's why you & Laiyah be getting into it. Jayson & Mellina was everything & just like his brother he had no qualms about being straight up with Mellina & letting her know he want her REAL BAD. While I was a little taken aback by the reveal of who was doing everything, I wish that we would have gotten to see it play out. Especially because it's like we went on this crazy ride with these two trying to solve this & then we're told about it basically via heresay. That's pretty much the only thing I didn't like.

We didn't really get to see much interaction with Jayson & Jaylen, but I deff loved his interaction with Malcolm. Even his constant checking on his sister, asking about his career & even Malcom checking on Laiyah. & obviously Junie B. Jones grew up to be Junie aka Juniper. Junie said what she wanted, when she wanted & didn't give an EFFYOUCEEKAY. While Junie could be too much, her heart was always in the right place. I can tell how she went back & forth with her sister & even when she had to check Mellina about her own trauma stopping her from being happy. & Laiyah egg donor was trash & obviously mental & Mellina should have whooped her ass from Walmart pharmacy all the way to electronics in the back. & I was elated when she caught ole girl wack ass outside.

This was another amazing AshleyNicole original & I loved it ❤️

One of Two…Still Surprised‼️

Ms. AshleyNicole, I’m running out of applicable accolades for all of the books and or these various series I’ve engorged myself with 😂🤣💐‼️Well, I’ve gladly added another completed book from your catalog to my 2023 Literary Journal 📚📖☺️🤓‼️Thereafter, “Mine To Have (Mine Series - Book 2)” was an incredible read. This book (not that others aren’t equally gratifying) appealed to all the senses/desires: thriller, mystery, astonishment, romance, YBUPpies, reconciliation & endless comedic banter. I realize book two was primarily about Rivers & August (& baby Lai) and I absolutely adore story. However, a relevant side note, please don’t ever arrive to a party with a 365 turtle neck without informing the other participant of said TN (🤔🫢🫣😮🤣😂). …potentially traumatizing 🤷🏾‍♀️‼️). …there’s numerous nuggets that require more explanation/attention: Mr. Stanley & Betty, the soon to be ex-wife (Oh well 😮 the audacity); Glorilz (which is entirely too similar to gorilla) 🫢🤨 & Vasquez’s (a “vigilante serial killer cop”, why?) consented to a weirdo play cousin-boyfriend office freak show (🤨); Lorna & Tracey , kidnapped & attempted extortion etc. Damn, that’s some trailer trash gutter low shigady (🤨☹️) & Aislyn, unless I missed a clue she a jealous (of her own daughters) weirdo too. But honorable mention goes to cousin Junie. 👏🏽👏🏾👏🏿 She was a bona fide fool. …Junie’s antics should earned her at least a novella. Also, we (I) want to know more about Janie’s divorce situation. Needless to say, “Mine To Have was a great reading experience. No spoilers here, however one of two primary events I suspected the culprit. …yet this book still me astonished & SURPRISED 😲🥰‼️Well done AN🤎💐🤎‼️

I enjoyed getting to know more about Jayson and being introduced to Mellina. While there wasn't instant chemistry, imo, I like that they each admired the other person, whether it was work related or just personal life stuff.

I thought Jayson would be a pure a**hole, yet he was just a serious guy. Once he started to fall for Mellina, his true self came more into the light and I loved him. His dedication to being a father was admirable. He put off having a personal/social life to ensure his work and daughter, Laiyah, were his only priorities. Laiyah is a whole vibe. That personality of hers really came out and I'm glad she was such a focal point of the story. When she was kidnapped, I automatically thought of her mom, and I was correct. How do you abandon your child at birth, then kidnap her for ransom. Whatever she was on had to be a helluva drug. I'm just glad Laiyah was ok, for the most part.

Mellina and her whole dad situation sounded fishy from jump. I hate that her dad's new wife would lie about what was really going on, yet all things happen for a reason. I'm just glad they talked and he immediately believed his daughter. Mellina needed the truth so she could move forward with Jayson and Laiyah. I see many more kids in their future.

The whole investigation was a bit ironic. Ole dude was psycho and I hope he gets put under the prison for what he did. Gloriliz was wrong for making Mellina think Jayson was the one who died, yet given their history, I was shocked that Mellina just took her word for it. Either way, Glo got hers.

This was a really great read. This series is funny and mysterious and warm and cuddly. I love it. Highly recommend.

Never disappointed in an AshleyNicole book

Detectives Rivers (aka Jayson) & August (sometimes November, December aka Mellina) were great working together and to read about. I was really hoping while reading book 1 in this series that Jayson's story would be book 2 and man was I excited that it was. This book kept me on the edge all throughout. From their almost getting to the bed moments but being interrupted each and every time, to dying to find out who the killer of these young black men was and why. I must admit I was more than surprised to find out who. And let me just say cousin Junie, she kept me in stitches, gonna go ahead and wish for her story to be next although I wouldn't mind if it was Malcolm's either. I was all in my feelings for cousin Janie cause Junie was slaying her and due her situation and lack of a backbone but man when she WOKE UP, I was so happy for her outcome. Mellina's momma though she would have got the hands oh and her daddy's wife and step daughters too. But glad daddy came to his senses. Anyway as stated never disappointed in this authors work. Highly recommend you read this work.

This series is absolutely not playing. From the jump, the suspense had me locked in and solving the case my damn self. Desoto side eyed from the very beginning! That man was going under the jail in my eyes! I still felt played cause I don't trust him. There's no way he didn't know 😒That reveal was nasty work cousin boyfriend huh. My heart legit dropped when Laiyah was kidnapped because baby girl’s personality had me smiling the whole book. Jayson pushing August away made sense to me tuh. I respected her for falling back and keeping it professional as requested. Even when he asked her to come be with them she declined so yeah go do that inner work. Didn't even make it a few hours cause STOP PLAYING she realized her place was with Jayson and Laiyah, the door is open.

Real talk I was praying it wasn’t Malcolm because his sister was already doing the absolute most in the last book. Seems like unhinged is right in our faces. This book had suspense, heart and heat in perfect balance. Ashley Nicole is snapping with this series.

oh the suspense… and the romance

This one kept me on the edge of my seat. Mellina and Jayson were fated from the beginning. The attraction was real and their connection was obvious. The serial murder plot running alongside their romance kept me on my toes. I thought I knew who the killer was, but I was wrong. I liked the way the two themes meshed and one didn’t overshadow the other. Also, Mellina’s internal struggle with her issues with her father was A LOT! I was so happy when that conversation finally happened because too many years were lost behind Bitter Betty’s foolishness. Lorna was clearly insane and I wish we could have got a longer paragraph on the depths of her insanity.

Now Laiyah was by far the most entertaining toddler I’ve read about. I wished I could have continued their journey to see her actually start forming sentences. Janie and Junie were great additions and gave the right amount of comedic relief. I wouldn’t mind reading more on those two.

This book had me up all night laughing at Mellina's cousin Junie. First off I need Junie to get her own book. I don't care if she ends up with Dean or I'm hoping Malcom but she needs a story. Besides Junie, baby Lailah was cute with her sometimey self. While the mystery aspect of the story was interesting it became an after thought in the end. In fact the killer was a character I completely forgot about. The friendships potrayed in this authors books are so relatable when Junie talks some sense into Mellina regarding her actions and fears, it was a conversation that was real and honest which any bestie would have with their homegirl when she's being dumb and missing out on a good thing. Loved these characters and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

Junie and Janie.. hilarious!!! When junie told her sister she married an old negro spiritual I was no more good. Literally in my house cackling!

I love a single parent trope period but Laiyah was the best comedic relief. The stripping, the comforting baby Moana but wait don’t hug her too long, she literally just made a face and tan out the room (or scene) and you couldn’t help but smile.

Jayson and Melina 😍😍 first of all the edging took me out. The interruptions had me thinking it wasn’t meant to be for a minute because what in the universe is going on! I love how they worked together as partners, fed off each other well. Their evolution into romance felt natural and I like a progression, hate instalove so it was perfect for me!

I love a romance with a little mystery, some action and a whole lotta sexiness. This was such a good story of two adults feeling there way and falling in love along the way.I love that you are getting an alpha male who is so likable and sexy that you can just imagine what he would look like in person. The writer brings you into this story and gives you and all around story of just good reading. You are going to be captivated by a story that keeps it simple, and that's just how most people are and the writer does a wonderful job.I so would love to get a look at Junie,Janieand sexy Malcolm.

August Rivers

This was my first read by this author and I really enjoyed reading this book . I did not several spelling and editing errors throughout the book, but the book still flowed well. It was nice to read a book that wasn't stereotypical romance. All of the interruptions that Jayson and Mellina had were hysterical. When they finally got together it was fire. I also liked that the story revolved around a case not only romance. I wish the ending with the case had been a little more detailed. It was kind of strange. Overall I liked the storyline and the characters. I recommend reading this one and look forward to reading more by this author.

Extremely enjoyable

I wasn't hooked by the blurb but I'd recently read and liked other books by this author so I decided to give this one a chance. I'm glad I did. I think that her writing skills, which I already found strong, are improving with every book. She still needs an editor, but her characters and dialogue really ring true to me. Plus I found myself laughing aloud several times. Jayson, Mellina, and Laiyah were extremely fun to read about and I look forward to Junie, Janie, and Malcolm's books (although maybe those last two would be the same book???).

Laugh factory

This book was one hundred percent a laugh factory. I can't recalled the last time that I have gotten a full workout just from laughing. The story was well developed and executed. The seriousness of the plot didn't take away from the humorous side. They balanced each other very well. The characters were hilarious and were very relatable. This book was my first book by this author, but it won't be my last. This book made me feel a variety of emotions, but it gave me laughter, which I needed most right now.

Loved it

Love Jayson and Mellina's story. Jayson worked the gang unit and Mellina worked homicide. Someone is going around killing young men. Jayson and Mellina have been brought together to work the case. When those two get together the heat goes up. Wonderful love story with some mystery and suspense mixed in. Love Jayson's daughter Laiyah. Mellina's cousins Janie and Junie are hilarious they deserve their stories also. Please do Malcolm's story and maybe Giz the computer tech as well. I guess I can say I love all the secondary characters.
