I was a NYC prostitute and porn star for twenty years; then I morphed into an artist and sexologist. I have passionately explored sexuality for over forty years, sharing my experiences through making my own unique brand of feminist sex films, writing books and articles, visual art making, creating theater performances, and teaching. I have consistently championed sex worker rights and health care and was one of the pivotal players of the Sex Positive Movement of the 1980s. I got my BFA at the School of Visual Arts in NYC and was the first porn star to earn a Ph.D.. I’m a popular lecturer whose work is studied in many colleges and Universities. For the past 12 years I have been collaborating on art projects with her partner, an artist and UCSC professor, Beth Stephens. We are movers and shakers in the new “ecosex movement,” committed to making environmentalism more sexy, fun, and diverse. In 2013, I proudly received the Artist/Activist/Scholar Award from Performance Studies International at Stanford, and was awarded the Acker Award for Excellence in the Avant Garde.
I won a copy of this book in a giveaway on goodreads.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, along comes (pardon the pun) a little powerhouse of a book determined to teach you how to achieve orgasm whether it is solo or with a partner, with or without toys. Tips to enhance your partner's orgasm, and hopefully your own.
"Every person is an entire erotic universe just waiting to be explored." - Annie Sprinkle
This educational book is for everyone, all ages. There are people who can't express their desires because they're shy so they lay there quiet as a church mouse . If only they knew being vocal during intercourse amps up the excitement. People, for heaven sake, speak up!
Explore. Become familiar with your body and your partner's; discover your sensitive areas.
Although I knew most of what is in the book (I'm no spring chicken & have been around the block several times) I did learn a few things and will be trying them out. You only live one so why not enjoy it.
Brief but enjoyable. Written with thoughtfulness towards gender variety. Lots of stuff about energy orgasms but it wasn't annoying, somehow? Overall an interesting short read with some really cute illustrations.
I asked Annie Sprinkle if I could review her new book The Explorer’s Guide to Planet Orgasm: For EveryBody, because I have been a long-time fan of her work and knew that it would amazing. I also hoped to learn a thing or two at the same time. I must say that the book exceeded even my wildest expectations!
I find in my personal experience that the more knows more about a subject like orgasm, the more difficult it to explain it in a succinct, engaging, and fun way, and Sprinkle would certainly know a lot about orgasms being a seasoned sex educator including having taught in online DVDs such as Amazing World of Orgasm, and How to be a Sex Goddess. This book did so deliciously and delightfully – I kid you not!
Sprinkle with Beth welcomes us to the book by explaining the ride to Planet Orgasm where visitors are called Orgasmanauts. This is a mysterious and wonderful of planet where dozens of kinds of orgasms await. The book introduces you to the training team, defines what is an orgasm, orientates you before taking you through their Orgasmanaut Training – there are four levels: Basic (intellectual level), Intermediate (having tried their tips and experiments), X-treme (everything the program had to offer), and XXX-treme (teaching others!).
The book systemically explains the seven keys to more orgasmic potential in chapter eight, then guides to through the steps for Ecstasy Breathing with clear instructions and illustrations in chapter nine. There are of course, tips to finding your G-spot, how to orgasm with female ejaculation, as well as how to attain P-spot orgasm for people with prostates.
In chapter 10, Sprinkle and Beth move into explaining three main types of orgasms: Genital (physical stimulation); Energy (without genital physical stimulation), and Hybrid (physical stimulation with awareness of energy release of flow). They explain solo and partnered orgasms, multiple orgasms, vaginal orgasms, before delving into the many other types of orgasms possible in chapter 11 onwards. You don’t want to miss The Megagasm – the tsunami of orgasms! The book cites as well as interviews esteemed colleagues like Betty Dodson, Debby Herbenick, Joseph Kramer, and Barbara Carrellas, Dossie Easton and Janet Hardy.
This fun book is interwoven with fascinating facts on orgasm research which will take you through undiscovered orgasmic lands! The tone is warm, reassuring, approachable, and playful! It’s easy-to-read, fun yet useful all at the same time! It is evident that a lot of thought and love went into this book – not to mention that it is beautifully illustrated. I would recommend to friends and cosmonauts of any age who want to understand the whole world of Orgasms out there!
Coming (no pun intended) in at a short 118 pages, I finished this whirlwind of a book in just a couple of hours, and I found it so much FUN! It’s accessible for all bodies and all people, regularly checking in and providing ways to adapt the exercises and practices to suit your own body. When touching upon topics that the authors hadn’t been through(such as SA) they chose to bring in guest speakers rather than not discussing it/discussing it in a half arsed manner which I loved! It’s a good coffee table book (for a sexually liberated household) and one I’m sure I’ll be re-visiting regularly!
The air is fresher. The sun shines brighter. There are singing penises and vulvas all around. I no longer know where my pleasure stops and the universe begins. Come and see for yourself.
This book is so informative about orgasms. It was so interesting that like every 5 pages I was looking into studies from the scholars’ work she mentioned. Expanded my perspective about orgasms.
