When a routine assignment to acquire an old painting takes a turn for the worse, museum insurance investigator, Kate Diamond, finds herself in the midst of an unusual treasure hunt that comes complete with an ancient curse.
Enlisting the aid of her retired jewel thief parents and their band of thieves, safecrackers and con men from the Golden Capers retirement village, Kate finds herself deep in the jungles of Mexico in search of a valuable piece of ancient history.
But everything is not as it seems and Kate soon finds herself battling a sinister enemy, her former FBI partner and her fear of snakes in order to keep evil forces from discovering a centuries old secret that could destroy the world as we know it.
USA Today bestselling author, Leighann Dobbs, discovered her passion for writing after a twenty year career as a software engineer. She lives in New Hampshire with her husband Bruce, their trusty Chihuahua mix Mojo and beautiful rescue cat, Kitty.
Her book "Dead Wrong" won the "Best Mystery Romance" award at the 2014 Indie Romance Convention.
Her book "Ghostly Paws" was the 2015 Chanticleer Mystery & Mayhem First Place category winner in the Animal Mystery category.
It's a shame I don't like Kate Diamond as much as some of Leighann Dobbs' other characters - not entirely sure why. However, I do like the supporting "Golden Capers" crew, and this story had a definite Indiana Jones feel (although Kate's "I hate snakes" went a bit too far, even if it was an homage to IJ).
Kindle Unlimited, Leighann Dobbs writes under Leighann Dobbs, Annie Dobbs and (soon) L.A. Dobbs but her real name {not sure if she writes under that one} is Lee Dobbins, Hazel Martin Mysteries only one I found for this type with her, she has not made sure that terms used match the British terms as well as in other areas for that period of architecture and assorted styles.
The Notch Cozy Mystery Series {5 out as of this writing} and the Blackbore Sisters Cozy Mysteries are not on Kindle Unlimited which as said before about 1 & 7 {the only ones given free, sure would not have bought them} and ditto for Ghostly Paws which is 1 of 5 at this time but did get others free over time.
While some of her other books are Kindle Unlimited none of the Blackmoore Sisters Cozy Mysteries are which doesn't matter to me as read #1 and #7 and was way underwhelmed. By the way, bakeries and other food service places don't run like that. Badly needs to proof things, it's messing up the flow of the book, which my computer reads to me, so that's bad. As for these, it's not that the situations couldn't happen, it's in the telling of the story, with unlikable unbelievable characters and situations, again.
Yet another goodreads won't hide it don't want to see the badly proofed badly plotted poor excuse for bad soft core porn crap. The 'historical' ones are like that and so are the some of the non cozy mysteries and some of the sorta but not really mysteries because can't write, etc ad nauseum. The most any of them got was 2 changed to 1 for crap cozy, some get a 1 which means basically crappy soft porn 'romance' etc.
3 in Silver Hollow Paranormal Cozy Mystery Series so far which are on kindle unlimited, 3 in the Moosamuck Island Mysteries , 5 in the Mystic Notch Cozy Mysteries so far {not ku}, Blackmore Sisters has 7 {not ku}, Hazel Martin Mysteries only has 1 so far, Lexy Baker Cozy Mystery series 12 so far is on ku. Others.including Scandals and Spies Book series so far 4 which are basically romance soft core porn dreck but hey you can get them on ku. Witches of Hawthorne Grove 1 so far,Cevonne Bride of Oklahoma, Unexpected Series 4 so far ku.

Copy/paste fill in the blank seems to be pretty much what she is doing in her books, which wouldn't be half as bad if the plots and ploys and actions were believable at all.Just change the name for a book and maybe change the series list under, and you are right back to copy paste same old same old.
NOTE: I specifically mentioned certain of the 'books'/series were achieving soft core crap status, and specifically said which ones those were, reference AGAIN the above quoted review, and did not specifically mention the blackmore ones as that, BUT and had not mentioned that had went back and rated all no talent no plot cardboard charactered 'stories' listed above as 1 as well. I will change the original review to reflect that, but it is still a 1, and MY review of the crap stands.
Kate Diamond is on tear. This is her second adventure. As usual the good folk are her compatriots with a checkered past. There is also her former partner. The cast,as usual, gets the job done along with a mishap or two. Thankfully Dobbs promise the next story will hold even more merry mishaps.
I really enjoyed this story. I found that it was a bit edgier than the Lexy Baker series by the same author. I quite liked the mysterious boss. Perhaps my favourite thing is the supporting cast of crazy parents and retired 'thieves'. The Golden capers crew steal the show for me. I wish there were more books in this series though.
These books are very different from the Cozy mystery I like to read, found them very entertaining and interesting ❤️💕❤️...Working for a Museum to find either missing, or stolen pieces and how she goes about it is very entertaining to read.
The painting's curse - doesn't sound right or does it?
Yeah! Back to the brilliant books that Dobbs is known for. A painting, a jungle, snakes, FBI and a possible curse. What more could you ask for. The heroine has grown in character and the plot is brilliant. Loved it
She actually has to recover from mishaps so she goes on an expedition with her family and friends. She winds up finding the tomb but has to flood it. Now she is partners with Ace Mason. Who knows what will happen next.
Museum investigator Kate Diamond & her crew, the Golden Capers are back again. This time Kate & her gang are involved in locating an ancient Aztec tomb. Complicating her efforts are a shadowy group of bad guys seeking the same treasure. Not only does Kate & company have to survive intense heat, nasty bugs, & bad guys, but there are lots of poisonous snakes, of which Kate is deathly afraid! To quote Indiana Jones, "Snakes, why does there have to be snakes!"
I have been waiting forever for the sequel to Kate's first adventure, Hidden Agemda, to come out. It was worth the wait! A strong plot, lots of action, & an unbelievable ending! (Literally!) can't wait for book 3 to come out. Leeann, write faster!
This second Kate Diamond Adventure is totally old-style adventure with a new style smart mouthed heroine and her battle counterpart. The humor is in the interaction between characters but the action flows throughout the novel.
PS, Spoiler ahead: The snakes are really there, but they do not dominate the action; I could stomach them.
Good adventure and archeology mixed with mystery. Could have done without the snakes, unfortunately they are an important part of the story. (So are the frogs Hee-hee). Read book two before book one, now must go read it.
I haven't read a book yet by Leighann that I haven't absolutely loved every minute of it. She always makes you laugh and leaves you wanting more. Can't wait to see what the future holds for Kate.
