Bad Blood Shifters #1

Bad Blood Bear

Rate this book
Lissa Ramsey left home when she was sixteen, escaping her abusive stepfather. She found refuge with a backwoods Bear God cult that seemed harmless—until its new leader, Brother Damien, forced her into a terrifying ritual that unleashed something dangerous and bloodthirsty inside her. Now she’s on the run, staying just ahead of Brother Damien, but unable to outrun the “demon” that seems to be taking over her body. Until a giant, sexy bear shifter crosses her path…

Grizzly shifter Tank Morrison vowed never to rescue another damsel in distress—not after the last one led him into a shifter hunter’s trap. He and his broken-down crew barely escaped the lab where they were tormented and experimented on, and all he wants is to be left in peace. But when he sees Lissa in the local diner, obviously on the edge of survival, something in her calls powerfully to his bear—and his heart.

It doesn’t take Tank long to figure out what Lissa’s inner “demon” really is. When she loses control and gets arrested for assault, he feels compelled to bail her out and take her home with him. But Brother Damien hasn’t given up his hunt for the mate he created. When he brings his shifter army to take Lissa back, Tank risks everything to protect her. Now Lissa has to turn an unbonded group of crazies and misfits into a real crew—and a family—in time to save them both…

Fall in love with the Bad Blood Shifters<>! Smokin’ hot shifter men with hearts of gold; the strong, passionate women who love them; secrets, lies and danger; naughty, steamy love scenes—and happily ever afters.

Content warning: This book contains naughty language and steamy love scenes, and is intended for adults only.

He shifted his weight uncomfortably. He was right. He should never have come here--he was no good to someone like her. She needed so much, and he had nothing to give. Not anymore.

A broken hero bent on saving a heroine running from her past..

This shifter novella had so much more depth than I was expecting! The characters were multidimensional and broken and so relatable; both Lissa and Tank have suffered such hardship and heartbreak and their fractured sense of trust had a hard time letting each other in. The pace of the novella was perfect, and I felt that there was so much plot packed into this story, leaving me satisfied yet ready for more. Since the next book deals with Wilde's previous series, I will be going back and reading those before finishing this one up. I highly recommend as I have found another fantastic shifter author to follow! ♡

This had a nice overall story, but a few things threw me off. I liked all the characters to a certain degree, but none were memorable enough to make me want to read the other books in this series with their individual stories.

The heroine (Lissa) was kind of strange, in a bad way. She had weird and unrealistic phrasing for things that shouldn't have been brought up in the first place. She also managed to justify her "episodes" as having a tapeworm. Fun fact: tapeworms cause a variety of symptoms but delusions and extreme hunger for rare meat aren't one of them.

The hero (Tank) almost won me over after his stalkerish but well-intentioned actions and then the author threw a wrench into everything. It's mentioned that he's had a true mate before everything happened but she's ultimately nullified because he miraculously also finds a true mate in Lissa. Seriously, what are the odds? ...

Another thing that bothered me is the lack of secret keeping between the "pack" members. They've been through a lot and most have pasts that they won't open up about. Why is it when one person lets another one in on a personal tidbit from their past it, all of a sudden, becomes public knowledge?

The ending was better than I expected after all the things that annoyed me within this story. A few parts were rushed and based on a big coincidence or two. Overall, it was a solid end for the Brother Damien and Lissa plot point. As ranty and annoyed as this review turned out this was a nice book. If you can overlook what I mentioned in this review then this could even turn out to be an amazing book for you, but it wasn't for me.

Favorite Quotes:

"I'm perfectly aware that life sucks and it's not pretty. You make the best of it. You fight. Or you crawl into a bottle or a syringe and die."

"You survived. You never stopped believing you mattered, that you were entitled to happiness. No matter how little you had [...]."

Bad Blood Bear was an addictive little read that was easy to power through, one that had me happy to turn the pages. I had plenty of ideas about where the story would go, and each new detail had me eager for more.

Although I enjoyed this one, I wasn’t as in love with it as I could have been. I fear my issue is that this book is a spin-off from another series, but I have no idea what. There were so many references to things, and I never understood these elements as well as I would have liked. I got the general gist of things, but I wanted a bit more.

All in all, a fun read, but I would have enjoyed it more if I’d understood all the links.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

Now we return to the Silverlake universe for the stories of Flynn and his broken group of misfit shifters. This woman, these men have been so tortured, so driven to the edge of insanity that it’s possible they’ll never come back, including Flynn. In order to survive they have to come together as a true, viable crew. And the catalyst that will bring that about is just as, if not more messed up than any of these survivors.

Bad Blood Bear is such an emotionally intense story. It’s not just about two broken people finding their way to each other over seemingly insurmountable odds… although that story is intense, heartbreaking and liberating just the same. It’s also about these shifters taking back control of their lives again. Yes, they’ve been released from torture and captivity. Yet in many ways their animals are still fighting, still dealing with what they’ve gone through. The term “broken” truly does apply to each and every one of them in some fashion.

Lissa and Tank make such an interesting couple. Lissa is such a powerful character. Oh, don’t mistake the horrible things that she’s gone through as all she is – no, she finds her strength within this crew and in her relationship with Tank. And watching that unfold was truly a joy for me. Tank is a complex man who feels deeply and cannot let go of what was – even though none of what happened was his fault. This protector bear has gone through so much that for awhile he lost that protector capability. To watch him find himself again was priceless. I enjoy seeing broken people find their way again, it gives hope for anything that follows that moment of clarity.

To talk about the events of this story would be so very easy, but that would rob you of the chance to experience this first story in the Bad Blood Crew series for yourself. I enjoyed revisiting this world very much, Bad Blood Bear is an excellent beginning to the new series. And I’m certainly looking forward to the rest of the crew’s stories. I don’t believe you really “have” to have read the earlier series to enjoy this one… at least what I’m seeing so far doesn’t feel that way. Yet, those earlier stories are so rich and entertaining… and in some ways set up this new series that I’d strongly suggest that you indulge yourself and read them as well. I would definitely recommend this story to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader. You’ll find an intense story, likable characters, interesting situations, a very nasty villain and secondary characters you’ll want to learn more about in their own stories.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Fun Series

4.25 Stars.

I really enjoy these series by this author. All the characters are fun to get to know. The main characters in this one is Lissa and Tank.
They both broke my heart and made me smile.
I wish there was more details on the bad guy element. A little more action and maybe a touch of investing. But the action when it happened was satisfying.
It's great to see these guys that suffered so much at the hands of the original bad gut from the first series come together and start truly healing.
The sex scenes were very nice. Steamy but not what I would call erotic. They were more romantic and intimate than that.
Looking forward to continuing with this author and her connected series. The various characters are becoming my 'Book Buddies '

Incredible

This is the first book in this series. It's so incredibly good. I love all the characters. The storyline is fascinating. The author refrains from making homelessness and life on the streets seem glamorous. She takes a real look at the pain and struggle of being homeless. However, she also tells a story of hope and the transformative power of love. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

*WARNING* contains explicit adult love scenes
Lissa has been on the street since she was 16 , staying here and there for short periods. When Lissa found the Ursa cult, she thought she was home free. The Ursa cult were peaceful, they grew veggies and took care of each other, sure they were a little strange, but Brother Matthias was a sweet old man. Then Brother Matthias died and Brother Damien showed up, that's when everything went horribly wrong and Lissa had to run again.
Tank is a bear shifter with a broken bear living around a few other broken shifters. Tank doesn't have a crew because none of them know if they want to stay together. Tank has to get away from the others for awhile when he run into this little female with big blue eyes and a bad smell. She smells almost sick, not quite, definitely smells off though.
I liked this story. I think I missed something, because this books refers to Alexander Grant a lot, I would like to find out more about him. Might be a good idea to see if there is a series before this one. I like that they were all damaged together, in the same place and it's typical that men can't talk about it. I really like that it takes a small damaged half shifter to get things moving in the right direction. I think I will be reading more about these characters at some point in the future.

Unexpectedly satisfying read

This was an impulse choice. I wanted something shiter'ish and all the choices lately were meh. I figured I'd just click one and give it a shot. I have to admit I was pleasanrly surprised. Good story, easy to like characters and low angst. The story wasn't very original (I think this genre has been pretty well explored) but I enjoyed the characters enough to want to invest the time to get to know them. I am hoping to learn a bit more about the base culture, so I will definitely be seeking out book 2.

Wow what a great first book

Tank is a dangerous, damaged and broken grizzly bear. But he is loyal, faithful and a protector. When he meet Lissa for the first time him and his bear both knew she needed help. They weren't sure what she was running from but they just had to help her. The Bad Blood Crews was a band of misfits shifters. They all survived the illegal shifter experiment labs. It has bonded them together with the pain and hurt that all of them endured at the labs. Tank knows Lissa is broken too so he brings her to their territory to keep her safe. Soon Lissa started to feel at home with the Bad Blood Crew and her feelings start to grow for Tank. Two broken bears trying to find a little sunshine in their world. But Lissa 's past comes back to get her. Its up to Tank and the Crew to save her. Lissa ends up saving the whole crew making them realize that they all need the alpha bond to tie them altogether. It makes them strong as a whole. Its what breaks the hold on her from her past plus they save Tank. I can't wait to start the next book.

I'm not sure what I expected but this wasn't it. Did it go off the rails? Yes. Do I care? No. I'll be reading the next. I was a little Hallmark, mixed with True Blood, mixed with Charmed.

Lissa has a demon in her and she’s not entirely sure where it came from or what to do about it. Luckily she’s about to cross paths with Tank who just might be able to help with one of those issues, if she’ll let him get close enough to her that is without taking off for the next town.

Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I did Fugitive Mate. The story is just as good and the world and characterisation just as interesting and yet there’s something missing. It’s possibly the need for more editing, as I tend to find too many errors take me out of the story and I love to be immersed in the world I’m reading. Still, that aside, this is a good book, with some very interesting characters. Lissa is a bossy little thing that not only keeps Tank on his toes, but his wayward crew too. The crew aren’t a convention grouping since they consist of several different types of shifter. None of them are committed to the others and they have banded together more out of necessity than out of desire. Still, the badly functioning crew share a tenuous connection to one another due to their shared experience. Adding Lissa to the mix stirs things up, even if she will only be staying with them until she gets control of her animal. They’re a kind of crazy group of shifters all told but I already think Xander might be my favourite character; there’s just something about the crazy panther that’s endearing.

Having read this book, I think I’m going to go back and continue with the Silverlake Shifter series before moving on to Bad Blood Wolf, as I didn’t realise these colourful Bad Blood critters first appeared in the other series. Be warned, Bad Blood Bear contains spoilers from the Silverlake Shifter series.

Before I get into this review I have to say, normally I love the books by Anastasia Wilde. But this one did not grab me at the first chapter like the others. Lissa is a street girl. She has been knocking around on her own since she was sixteen. She knows how to find the best squats and stay away from the law. Tank is a bear shifter who has lots of baggage but a protective nature. Tank wants to help and take care of those around him. Lissa did a brief stint in a cult that worshiped the Bear God. While with the cult, Lissa is victimized by their leader and Turned into a Bear shifter against her will. She escapes the cult but doesn't know what is happening inside her. When she sees Tank in a random diner, she is compelled to kiss him. That one tiny kiss grabs Tank and keeps him in her orbit. He wants to help and protect her. This story is full of action and eventually gets to the steamy part. It is well-written and has a strong story line. So why didn't I love it? Mostly I thought through the first half of the book that Tank deserves better than Lissa, his intended heroine. I love Tank. He has been rattling around in all the books since Fugitive Mate, book 1 in the Silverlake Shifters series. Though by the time the romance kicks into high gear, I did like Lissa more, I am still left with thinking Tank deserved a better woman.

Oh so "beary" good!

Wow I really enjoyed reading this book. It was short enough to be read all in one go but long enough to have a lot of heart! Tank is a bear shifter who lost his true mate to shifter hunters. Lissa is living on the street or squatting in abandoned places to escape a hell she doesn't fully remember. What she does know is something lives inside her and it wants red meat and she has no control over it. Tank sees Lissa at a diner and is compelled to help her because he sees that she is barely surviving. Tank and his shifter mates are barely surviving also, so its easy for him to recognize the signs. This is book one of the Bad Blood Shifters but apparently it would have made more sense to have started with book one of the Silver lake Shifters series. This book is a stand alone though so you can start here and still follow the plot easily. I'm a curious soul however so I will be going back to the beginning so to speak. I enjoyed these characters so much that I want to know all I can about them. I enjoy all shifter books but I especially enjoy those that have mixed crews and bring broken souls together to forge new lives. This book has all that so I'm sure it will go on my to be read again shelf. If you enjoy T S Joyce books then you should love this series as well!

Fantastic

OMG! This is a thoroughly entertaining book. It's passionate, exciting and vengeful. The couple has a connection so strong that even though they hardly know much about the other the passion between them is strong. This author is great storyteller ! I have highly enjoyed this book, it's the first story I pick for the day with my reader in my hands then my nose was buried deep in this story. This could quickly becoming one of my favorite series. I have enjoyed the humor and also the storyline with this couple it's outstanding. It's so passionate; the teases between the couple don't fizzle out. However, the interaction between these two is explosive in its own right. They can match each other in wits and passion they constantly strike sparks off each other. There is plenty of action to keep you entertained and there is a lot going on at any given time, which is not surprising. I like that the women always gives as much as they get. What else can I say bout this story, its exceptional, funny, and heartbreaking, powerful!!! There is a lot more that I could say but I would be writing a page myself because this is a amazing story!!! it's a memorable first book in this series. These guys refuses to give up. What a feel great read with enjoyable characters who just wanted to love and be loved.

Tank

This KU library selection is the series opener for the crew of shifters that escaped from captivity and torture in book three of the Silverlake Shifters series. They made another appearance in book three of the Silverlake Enforcers, Noah. The loosely affiliated crew of dysfunctional shifters is living on land previously owned by Alexander Grant, a psychobillionnaire now incarcerated for his many crimes. This book features Tank, a grizzly shifter whose mate was killed by hunters before he was captured. He has little control over his bear and knows he will never be "normal" again. Then he bumps into a young woman at the diner in town and notices her smell is off when she grabs and kisses him. He also notices she eats the meat of three rare burgers while her eyes flash red. The protector in him comes out when he follows her to her squat, a boarded up gas station. She's a loner, doesn't want his help, but desperately needs it, especially with the trouble that's trailing her from Arkansas to Nashville.
This book is a great beginning for the Bad Blood series. I can't wait to get into the next one.

For those who don't know, this book is a spin-off after the Silverlake pack and enforcers books. This could cause some confusion as there are characters and events referenced that you will be confused on if you haven't read them. However, this could still be read without having read them if you don't mind missing out on some of the history of the characters - why they're so messed up, how they got free, and why there is bad blood between the crew and the Nashville pack.

I enjoy Anastasia's writing and her take on shifters. This book spends a lot of time with characters working through their issues and learning how to live again while maintaining a faster paced feeling. I enjoyed the characters and the story.

Lissa was a human who was turned into a bear shifter against her will and with little memory of the event so she thinks there is a demon inside her. She managed to escape and has been on the run ever since. Tank is a broken bear shifter whose mate was murdered before he was captured and tortured. This is the story of how they find each other and help the other learn how to live again.

Not bad. This was my first book by this author, and while this is a series, it can be a standalone. However since it’s related to previous books in another series (which I didn’t know until I was already reading this one) there are a lot of references to things that perhaps would make this book better if I had read those too.

In any case, The story isn’t very deep. I mean there were definitely some dark issues and trauma but I didn’t feel like the book dives into it as much. The climatic event was very anticlimactic and it was all over very quickly with a HEA for all of them as they became an official “crew.” It was fairly quick to read, if anything I considered stopping because I didn’t feel very invested in the characters.

I think I got the first 4 books in this series for free though, so I’m going to consider one more.

This was good. Really good. It was my first time reading anything by this author and I'm impressed. I believe this follows on from other series, but I don't feel I lost anything by reading this first. I picked this up when it was free, and I'm glad I did.

I enjoyed this story. I loved that the crew are a bunch of dysfunctional misfits, and I loved Lissa's attitude and humour. There were a few typos here and there (nothing major), but overall it was well-written. I really liked the Bad Blood Crew, so I'm looking forward to their stories. This book may have been free (at the time I got it), but from what I've read, this author is well-worth parting with my cash. I'm going right now to buy book 2 (and check out the series I've missed). More please!

I absolutely loved this one. I adore all of anastasia wilde's books and this one is no exception but I was really interested in all these misfit characters when we first met them in "tiger's mate". so when I realized that this was the first book in their series I was super excited. starting the series off with Tank was a pretty good idea I think because he's the most stable out of the non-stable crew members.. and also the most in need of a connection. Lisa was such a great choice to be his mate because yes she needed help and protection but she was tough enough and independent enough to not want it All the time. she stands as his partner instead of as a damsel in distress. I soooo recommend this one, but I really think u should really read the silver Lake shifter series first.

Great, fast paced story with evil shifters, forced matings and a group of shifters trying to recover from being tortured. The h is living rough when H finds and helps her. She is great, she's lived through awful experiences, but she continues to do her best to live in the present and will not give power to the bad guys. She helps the H and his alpha who is also badly in need of help. I like how the h was written, as the catalyst for good, and she is sassy with the right amount of sweetness and brains. All writers should take note, this author knows how to develop a sassy h, balanced with courage, and compassion, and not foul mouthed, which just takes me right out of the story. I loved this book, the series and author is an auto-buy.

Great

Lissa has been on her own since she was sixteen. She was part of The People of Ursus, they believe in bear shifters. She was attacked by Brother Damien and now she thinks she has a demon in her. Lissa goes to a diner and meets Tank. Tank is a bear shifter and his mate was killed and he was captured and tortured. Tank feels like he’s broken and would not make a good mate for anyone. Tank takes her back to their compound and explains what is happening to her. But someone has their hooks in her and if they can’t figure out how to get her released from it, she might hurt them all.
Good story with shifters, intrigue, and sex. There were several grammar errors but I still liked this story. Tank is a wounded bear and Lissa is tough and independent.

Good Start to a Series

The first book of the Bad Blood Shifters series gets the series off to a good start. The characters are on the one hand engaging and fun and on the other hand sad and a little crazy. The storyline definitely held my interest. There are enough differences in these shifters to set them apart from other shifters I've read about. This book is a standalone, but I would recommend that you read both Silverlake series first. P. S. There are a couple of places where characters' names are confused or I probably would have given this book 5 stars. Happy reading!

I'm lovin the 'Bad Blood Crew'!

I enjoyed this story. I felt the what little of the background given of characters was perfect. It definitely makes you want to continue reading more from this series. This story was about Tank and Lissa, they both had me smiling and shedding a few tears, sometimes at the same time. The relationship between the crew is so dysfunctional but with the help and faith of a homeless girl it turns into not only a true crew but dysfunction and all. I would recommend this book to others who like shifter stories with some crazy characters. I know I fully enjoyed reading it!

After childhood abuse and the unnatural horror of Brother Damien’s cult in the woods, scared and terrorized, Lissa Ramsey runs straight into bear shifter Tank Morrison. Tank’s carrying his own damage from being widowed, captured and tortured and his instincts are warring but definitely say stay away from the waif but he just can’t.

This is one of those shorts it’s hard to describe without giving away all the goodies but it was a fun read as the abused mixed species Bad Blood Shifter crew work past their collective capture and abuse to come through this adventure with one less enemy roaming the planet and daring the next foe to cross them.
