Sequel to Rona award winning Max Seventeen: Firebrand continues Max and Riley's story...
Max has always eaten life in very small bites. Now it's coming at her in great big mouthfuls.
Riley used to have very short horizons. Now the future stretches out further than he can see.
They've made the starship Eurydice their home and forged a family out of the strange and dangerous crew, but when the past comes calling it threatens to drive a wedge between them all and shatter the bonds they've made.
With the crew of the Eurydice scattered and an unknown menace stalking them across the universe, Max and Riley are faced with the ultimate question of trust and an enemy neither of them quite knows how to fight.
Max Seventeen, available from Amazon, was the first book to win the Romantic Novelists Association’s Paranormal Romantic Novel of the Year.
Kate Johnson lives in rural Essex where she belongs to a pride of cats and puts up with a demon puppy. She did actually do most of her homework, but quickly so as to have more time to stare out of the window thinking about heroes. Stay in school, kids. Kate has done a variety of not-particularly great jobs, ranging from airport check-in to lab assistant, but much prefers writing for a living. For one thing, the hours are better, and no one ever tells her off for not ironing her shirt. In fact, the lack of ironing might be the single greatest advantage to being an author. Kate loves going off at mad tangents, which you’d surely never have guessed, but also enjoys reading romance and fantasy, watching funny stuff on TV, drinking coffee by the gallon and occasionally leaving the house. The Untied Kingdom is her first novel to be published in the UK.
NEED THE MAD SPACE THREEQUEL NOW!!!<3 This book was so good. I've devoured both Max Seventeen books 1 and 2 in the past week, and cannot wait for the next story. Really loved the character development in this one, just as the 1st, and though the story comes to a satisfying conclusion, I'm dying to know what happens with several of the characters. Waiting suuuuuuuucks.
Oh, I loved this book. I am normally very wary of sequels because, having invested emotionally in the main characters and seen them (heart banging in chest in Max and Riley's case) through to a happy-ever-after, I intensely dislike any sort of plot-device rift that means we have to do it all over again. BUT Firebrand delivers! Masses of swearing, plenty of eye-watering violence, oodles of smart, aching-ribs humour, but no fake rift, just realistic problems caused by Max being so very Max. All in all, it's a continuation of the wild space adventure (a little less breakneck than in Max17), with satisfying dollops of character development, lesser characters being brought to the foreground and a very clever prison breakout that went totally against what I'd been expecting. Bring on the Threequel!
(There's also love. Of course there is. Kate Johnson is still the Action-Romance-in-Deep-Space queen)
Mad Max and the space crew are back at it again! And this time there are several mysteries to solve. This one kicks things up a notch when Max goes missing, half the crew is gone and Riley is heartbroken. Things keep piling up against our couple, as they come to a realization in terms of what their future may hold, amidst uncovering the nefarious purpose of the firebrand. Max and our andy band of pirates, plus her sister Priti were in for a few problems to solve. And I love the relationship Max has with her sister. But when Priti thought that all she had to do to be considered grown was have sex, I was like, 'No baby what are doing?' And of course there was the considerable drama of Justine's disappearance and old enemies turning up. I was fully enraptured yet again because Ms. Johnson knows how to craft a wonderful, page turning, full fledged adventure. I loved it and can't wait for the third book!!
When I read the first Max Seventeen book, I raved about it for days. It took me a while to get around to reading this one because... well, it's a sequel and you know what they say about sequels. On the other hand, I LOVED Max.
I picked up the book and within the first few pages I was completely sucked back into the world of Max, Riley and the crew of the Eurydice. This second book has the same breakneck pace and energy as the first. There's a ton of violence, cool space tech, a fair bit of sex (off page) and giant spiders. Max is still Max and in this book you get to see a bit more of her sister Priti and a lot more of Captain Orpheus (hooray!).
It's a glorious, fast and fun space romp with a mixed race heroine. If you like things like Firefly or Killjoys, you'll love this.
I am really enjoying this series and look forward to future books. Max and Riley are an interesting romance. The rest of the crew are also well developed. Orpheus should be a terrible character but he has been developed to show he does have redeemable qualities. All this combines to make you interested in the whole crew and all their adventures.
With the crew of the Eurydice scattered and an unknown menace stalking them across the universe, Max and Riley are faced with the ultimate question of trust and an enemy neither of them quite knows how to fight.
