Light of the Spirit by Lisa Kessler Muse Chronicles series #4. Mythology paranormal romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but better in series order. Lia Youlos is the current Muse of Comedy. Every generation, the nine daughters of Zeus are reborn and to protect them, there are nine Guardians that are given gifts to protect each muse as they find each other. Cooper Hanover is a paramedic who heals Lia after a fire but he doesn’t know how or what really happened. He finds his life is changed and he is now Lia’s protector. Is he willing to put his own life on the line for her?
Lia prefers comedy instead of tragedy. She works at a comedy club to entertain and she loves making people laugh, including Cooper. After he saves her life, she has a lot of explaining to do. As the danger to Lia gets closer, Cooper is at her side. As each protector finds his muse, the more the Order of the Titans is also revealed in the series. Expanding enemies and complications for the muses find their love and guardian. Romantic suspense combined with mythology. A growing world and dangerous forces as each romance connection is made.
I absolutely LOVE Lisa Kessler’s Muse Chronicles series. The series combines the present day world with Greek mythology. It isn’t necessary to have knowledge of Greek mythology before reading this series. In my opinion, I think it’s better if you don’t.
I previously said that the third book, Breath of Passion was a game changer for the series. It was, but Light of the Spirit takes the events of Breath of Passion and expands on them. I’ve read all four books and I believe they can be read as standalones. However, I think that some events in Light of the Spirit will be more clear and understandable if you read Breath of Passion first.
Lia Youlos was destined to be a muse from birth. Her Greek parents even named her Thalia, after the Muse of Comedy. In this generation of muses, Lia just so happens to be the Muse of Comedy; making people smile and laugh is her passion. After feeling responsible for the death of his sister, Cooper Hanover changed from the easy going, fun-loving guy he use to be be. He’s now almost always serious and has pretty much forgotten what it’s like to laugh and smile. He’s a paramedic for Crystal City and he loves what he does.
Lia and Cooper first meet when the theater Lia and her muse sisters are restoring catches fire. Something extraordinary happens that night, but it results in Cooper landing in the hospital. Now, he feels a little rattled and is afraid to return to the job he loves. It seems that something big is on the horizon and the gods need Cooper to be the guardian he was chosen to be.
Light of the Spirit reveals some surprising information regarding the muses and The Order of the Titans who are a group that has been around as long as the various nine daughters of Zeus. The Order needs to stop the muses who want to inspire mankind through arts and science. Their ultimate goal is to release the Titans from their prison of Tartarus and bring back the Golden Age of Man. Things are changing and old enemies unite as a new enemy emerges. I can’t wait for Devoted to Destiny, the next book in this series.

Cooper, nicknamed Apollo by his fellow paramedics, has no idea how he literally brought Reed, a firefighter, back to life (see book three, Breath of Passion). Nor can the doctors explain what happened to Cooper as a result of that...healing.
Lia, the muse of comedy, feels the connection between her and Cooper, and has from their first meeting. Of course, at the time, he was helping her and the sisters-of-her-heart, and some of their significant others, escape a burning building, and raising the dead.
After Cooper was finally released from the hospital, and yes, she was a consistent visitor, she can't resist the opportunity to get to know him better. Cooper, feeling the same way, is eager to spend more time with Lia. Now, if only he could figure out why he's suddenly able to do certain things...
Lia has realized Cooper is her Guardian, but she isn't quite sure, okay, she's scared, of his reaction. In his defense, it is a lot to absorb and accept.
As Cooper and Lia's bond grows, so does the danger surrounding them as someone wants to take down the Muses, regardless of who gets hurt in the process.
Lia can sense the sadness within Cooper, and yet he won't open himself up to her. She's already fallen for him, and him for her, but she wants all of him. She wants to know why he's so serious all the time, when she's given peeks into his mischievous side.
Can Cooper share his past with Lia? Will Lia help Cooper find peace with what happened? Is Cooper's nickname more fitting than anyone could've imagined? Can these two keep each other safe? Is there a HEA for them?
One-click now and follow along as two people, perfect for each other, struggle to find their way. Please keep in mind that I highly recommend reading this series in order.

One of the things I’ve enjoyed in Ms. Kessler’s previous installments of the Muse Chronicles is just how kind, wonderful, and fun her characters are. This latest installment has that and more! Lia just wants to make the paramedic that saved her sister’s guardian laugh while he’s in the hospital, as that is what her muse does, but she can’t deny he’s also great to look at. And, when he gets out, they start dating. But there are still forces at play that want the muses to fail, and it doesn’t take long to realize that Lia’s life is on the line. Can Cooper save her before it’s too late? I have a hard time believing how fresh the author makes each book; they aren’t carbon copies of each other, and each one feels new and unique. That points to the author’s great talent. Added to that is how each character is fun, loving, and just so real, it doesn’t take long to feel like you’ve known them for years. And, boy, the chemistry is off the charts! It was just so much fun to get to know Lia and Cooper and to watch them fall in love with each other. Let’s also not forget the mystery and danger that is going on while the romance is happening. Getting to see each layer unveiled in the bad guys’ plans is exciting and intriguing; I like the addition of the new antagonist! I really can’t get enough of this series and recommend it with no reservations whatsoever!! A wonderful, sweet, well-written paranormal romance! Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-book which I reviewed voluntarily.
I am loving this series of stand alone stories. I am learning so much about the Greek gods and most especially muses. Don't worry this not a boring story, in fact, it is very well written love story. The characters are likeable so much so that you want to meet them in the flesh. I can't wait for the next book in this series. Write faster Ms Kessler.
It's another gem of a story for the Muse Chronicles series. Another sister muse - Lia - has found her guardian, and the timing couldn't be more on point, as we delve deeper into the madness of The Order, and more mystery (and another baddie) is added to the equation. Cooper and Lia's road to a relationship was a must read for me. I plunkered down and read this in one sitting because I was kept glued to the pages. I like this series because there's a good mix of mystery, romance, and action to go around. Looking forward to seeing where this series takes us!
I absolutely love this series , they are so sweet and light hearted . In this installment , Lia just wants to make people laugh especially the young paramedic that was injured while helping save her sisters fiancé . What they don't know is that they are destined to be together . He is her guardian and she is his muse . But there is more going on and when the Gods get involved you know all hell is going to break loose . Will they survive and will they find the happiness that is fated for them . I adore the characters in this installment . All Lia wants to do is make people smile and she is such a funny good natured woman . No one can stay angry around her. Cooper is so serious and when he meets Lia he starts to loosen up and start to have fun together . They are such a good couple they suit each other and bring out the best in each other This is a fun , smart read that will have you laughing an shedding a tear . The author just keeps getting better and better with each installment . So if you want a good story with a great laugh out loud moments check them out
Cooper Hanover is a paramedic with a painful past. Lia Youlos is a muse full of laughter and love but when tragedy strikes, Lia and her friends lives are in danger. It's Cooper who's called in to save them, with a power he doesn't understand and a strong attraction for Lia. Together they will fight for a love and happiness Cooper didn't know he could feel.
Love! I'm in awe as the story of Thalia comes to an end. Another well written book with some added bonuses! I believe I may have discovered some hidden players in this story and I hope they make another appearance! Laughter is the best medicine and it's nice to see that between Thalia and Cooper!
A wonderful, sweet and sultry paranormal urban fantasy romance!
“You're not crazy." She was serious, no hint of a smile.
He cocked a brow. "And how do you know that?"
"I cut hair for a living." Her dark eyes glinted with playfulness, easing some of his jacked-up nerve. "I see crazy all the time. You're not it.”
Light of the Spirit by Lisa Kessler is a wonderful, sweet and sultry paranormal urban fantasy romance. It’s the fourth installment in Lisa’s planned seven-book series chronicling the latest rebirth of Zeus’ nine muses and their guardians. Light of the Spirit is the best installment yet! You will indubitably want to read this in one sitting.
It works very well as a stand alone read if that is your preference. That said, I recommend that you read the series in order because it’s exciting and wickedly fun!
Light of the Spirit is the story of the Muse of Comedy, Thalia “Lia” Youlos, and a hot paramedic, Cooper Hanover. Our hero and heroine are extremely likable. Not surprisingly, the bad guys are not. In addition, there’s some characters in this installment whose alliance and whose ulterior motives may be questionable.
Lia has officially found her guardian and just in the nick of time as the Order is specifically targeting her for eradication. The situation is complicated because Cooper, nicknamed Apollo by his fellow paramedics, has no idea how he miraculously raised Reed from the dead in the last book. Cooper, himself, almost died at the time and neither he nor his doctors can explain his strange new abilities. Therefore, Cooper is understandably anxious at the lack of answers and fearful that the same white healing energy may exhibit in him again – this time fatally.
Lia visits Cooper regularly while he’s in the hospital where they discover that they are strongly attracted to each other. Cooper is looking forward to spending more time with her out of the hospital setting and Lia is trying to devise ways to discover if he has the tell-tale birthmark marking him as a Guardian without his knowledge. I couldn’t help but laugh-out-loud at the consummate scene. Then, if it’s an affirmative that presents another dilemma: How can she tell him that he is a Guardian and what that entails without freaking him out? In the end, will laughter turn out to be the best medicine for Cooper?
It’s a joy watching the chemistry and the bond between Lia and Cooper grow even while I can’t help but fret as the threats around them multiply. Lia can feel the sadness in Cooper but doesn’t know why he’s heavyhearted. The Muse in her only wants to make him smile and laugh. The woman in her wants him… period. I love how Cooper rolls with the flow and, how learning what he is, instead of scaring him, actually gives him strength.
Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Light of the Spirit:
“You drive me crazy," he growled.
She leaned down, her breasts brushing against his chest. "It's a good look for you.” --- “Have you ever had a secret that involved other people, and you couldn't share it without exposing them?I have to be really careful."
He rubbed his forehead. "And swimming is going to help?” --- “See. Told you I had sexy underwear."
"They're only sexy because you're in them.”
Watch out for a scene that involves pinballs and ice cubes as it’s smoking hot and one that I won’t be soon forgetting! “I've never been jealous of an ice cube before….”
Lisa Kessler is one of my favorite authors. Seriously, I have inhaled everything she has published and I still eagerly look forward to each new book! Light of the Spirit is a well-written, engrossing love story with a danger plot that will keep readers on the edge of their seats! Fans can only hope that the muses and their guardians are able to stay ahead of the perils ahead. I’m holding my breath waiting for the next book in the series releasing January 2018! Bring it on!!!!
How come I posted my review for this book on my blog but forgot to post it here?!?! Better late than never :)
This is a brilliant series that I'm thoroughly enjoying by this highly talented author. I recommend reading the series in order as each story builds on what occurs in the earlier books - and it is a great series, anyway, so why miss any of it?
Cooper Hanover is a paramedic and in the previous book in the series he was instrumental in healing Lia and saved someone else - I don't mean treating, I really mean healing. This saved the patient but had dire consequences for Cooper . . . . If he can't figure out what happened or why he'll be in great danger in future! Lia is Lia Youlos and she's the young lady who is the mortal vessel for the Muse of Comedy. Her kind heart, ready wit and beautiful smile are enough to melt the iciest heart, even that of Cooper! However, there are still enemies out to thwart the Muses and Lia is one of their targets. Can Cooper open up to let Lia into his heart? Can Lia help him heal himself so they can move onto their HEA? Can they save each other from the dangers and enemies out to kill them?
This is an action packed series, with well developed characters, an intriguing plot and is a superb, page-turner. I love how the series brings Greek mythology into an enthralling contemporary series. There are some great revelations in this story concerning the Muses and their enemies, The Order of the Titans. There's more background information about one character that reveals more about their motives and these revelations are game changers for many. This is a fantastic read and I have no hesitation in highly recommending it - and the whole series! I can't wait for the next book in the series, Devoted to Destiny, to be released!
I was lucky enough to be gifted a copy of this book. This is my honest review after reading it.
I do not know how this author does it with this series that also grows better and better each one. Imagine no laughter and smiles because I can not. Something wants to take that away in here. Lia brings it with her she carries it. Then there is Cooper whom we all love his profession but something twerked one night when aiding Lia. Now danger is on his list also. So intrigue is the key to this mystery that also will be fused with romance. She will carry you from start to finish in this one loving every minute with tingles for the romance and thrills in the danger.
Oh my goodness!!! Each muse book gets better and better!!! I started reading....and could not stop!!! Your have to read this book!!! And the others in this series!!!! I love love love them all!!! You need to read about the Muses....and there Guardians!! You won't be able to lay this book down!!!
The muse of comedy falls for a paramedic with a chip on his shoulder who seldom laughs. The sub-plots in this get very interesting with what is happening with the bad guys so I was almost bummed that it was over so fast. Can't wait for the next one!
Lia, muse of comedy, meets her guardian Connor when he saves Reed's life. We are starting to get more backstory on the Titans and the Muses. Mikolas and Ted are adding another interesting layer to this story. Both Lia and Conner nearly lose their life in this story, and I see more struggles, fighting and more love to come in the next books.
Let me first start off by saying I was a huge mythology nerd in school. I think I spent as much of my free time studying the Greek myths as I did reading other fiction. So when I read the description of this I was instantly interested in reading the book. I did not get a chance to read the previously 3 books before I started this one, but you can bet I will be going back and reading them now.
The relationship that builds between Cooper and Lia is so much more than a quick romance; he needs her in his life just as much as he wants her. Together they can overcome anything it seems. Throw in the authors play on the Greek muses and you’ve got a great read. But even if you aren’t a big nerd like me, the author writes in a way that everyone will enjoy this book- even if you’re not usually a fan of mythology. If you haven’t read anything by Lisa Kessler yet – I would recommend starting with this series; it’s has fun, seeetness, heat and just enough action to keep the reader on their toes!
**4 Stars - I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader copy of this book.
I couldn't believe this series would get better...but it did. Just wow! Lia and Cooper's story was magical, heartwarming, full of action and suspense. It was off-the-charts good. From the first book in the series I was hooked. A lot of times series books continue to stay good but never better than the first. This one definitely was. Something was constantly going on. I highly recommend this book. Book gifted to me in exchange for an honest review.
Love this series! It's lots of fun, and I totally love the premise! If you are a new reader to this series, I advise you to start with the first book in the series because although each book is a different couple, there is a larger storyline throughout the whole series. In this book, Lia is the mortal vessel for the Muse of Comedy, and her and her muse "sisters" are in danger from a group that wants to release Kronos into the world today, and that group believes the muses will get in the way of that, so they want them dead. Each muse is suppose to have a guardian, and Lia thinks she may have found hers in Cooper, but she's unsure how to broach the subject with him, and Cooper has some walls up that make Lia wary. Love the suspense in this series, and enjoy the romance! The romance is sweet and hot, and I enjoy reading about each muse finding their guardian. The bigger storyline is also really interesting, and I'm really excited to see where Lisa Kessler is going to take the story. Love the muse premise, and love the Greek mythology throughout the story. Wonderful addition to this terrific series!
Another Muse finds her Guardian in LIGHT OF THE SPIRIT.
I enjoyed getting to know Cooper and Lia. As with all the other couples, they had great chemistry and I enjoyed them by themselves as well which is always a bonus. On top of the romance in LIGHT OF THE SPIRIT, there was quite a bit of things going on outside of the couple that were addressed.
One thing I am not so excited about is the feeling I'm getting from a few secondary characters. I won't go too much into it as LIGHT OF THE SPIRIT isn't their story, but I hope that a certain Muse and this particular order member don't rekindle a romance in the future. I don't think I could forgive him for everything that he was involved in even if it meant her happily ever after.
I can always count on The Muse Chronicles to be a light, easy and quick flowing read. I always enjoy * This book was provided free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Wow, just when you think you know who are all the major players, bad and good, Lisa Kessler throws you for a loop in this exciting Greek god/mystical series with Light of the Spirit. It is the fourth book in The Muse Chronicles bringing new problems, enemies and a new guardian. This is Lia and Copper’s story but it is also a major story-line for the overarching muse theme.
The plot thickens in ways that you never see coming. Amazing in that the twists and turns in this story were completely believable but also unexpected and extremely surprising. Greek god politics, violence and danger make a roller coaster ride as the bond and romance between Cooper and Lia heats up. Start at the beginning of this series that I highly recommend for fantasy fans everywhere. Lisa Kessler never disappoints in world building, character dynamics or plot development. Can’t wait to see what happen next! An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher/author.
Light of the Spirit by Lisa Kessler is the fourth book in Ms. Kessler’s Muse Chronicles. It is suggested that you read the first three books before this one.
The gods have sent the Muses to be reborn each generation to inspire man. Lia is the reborn Muse of Comedy. Cooper is a paramedic and healed Lia when she was injured in a fire. He is drawn to her even as he’s trying to figure out from where his powers came. Danger stalks Lia and the other Muses and Cooper is drawn in, despite trying to harden his heart. But when one is a Guardian to a Muse, there is only so much you can resist.
Lia and Cooper have a fun relationship, which is appropriate considering Lia is the Muse of Comedy. Ms. Kessler effortlessly weaves their relationship into the overarching plot of the series. While the focus is on their romance, the plot involving the Order of the Titans and the prophecy involving the Muses also advances. There is plenty of action and intrigue.
My only complaint involves Cooper’s secret, so I won’t spoil it. All I will say is that I was disappointed at how neatly wrapped up everything was, rather than just letting it be.
If you like books involving mythology and romance, you certainly can’t go wrong with book 4 of the Muse Chronicles.
If you’re familiar with the Greek Muses you’re probably wondering how I’m halfway through the series with four books down and three to go when there are 9 Muses. Well I’m not going to spoil it for you!
The previous three books were pretty action packed, yet this one felt like it had something else to it that I just loved. I’m not sure if it’s the introduction of more mythology and deities or not. Yet it’s becoming increasingly more like the Dark Hunter series.
There’s another character we’ve met previously becoming a central figure. There are unknown immortal beings wreaking havoc. Both sides of the battle are slowly having more and more information revealed to them.
There’s even that crucial input from the bad guys to keep it interesting. Unlike previous books, this one has more input from the bad guys including more people’s points of view rather than just Ted’s. Between this and me reading the blurbs for future books I’m starting to map out my ideas of who’s who, who’s going to do what and why.
Let the conspiracies fly!
I have no idea how right or wrong I’ll be but I’m loving the drama, the additional input without lacking on the story of the two characters we’re meant to be focusing on. The balance still works even with more input from the bad guys.
Love these books. I read the first three together and it seemed like forever before this one arrived because I enjoyed the others so welll. I know we only have three more muses left but this series is sooo good maybe the other two muses can come back to life somehow (gods ARE involved,). In this book was the muse of comedy Lia and Cooper the paramedic that healed Reed in the last book. The Order of the Titans are still involved, but some want the murders to stop and some don't. We find out about at least one hidden Immortal pretending to be human. The is plenty of intrigue involving Mikalos. Is he a guardian, an immortal, or just a human member of the order? I have a guess as to who he is when he said the gods took away someone he loved, but I will have to wait to see if I am right. I am so excited that I want to read them all now! But I guess I will have to wait patiently like everyone else. If you haven't read these books yet, I recommend you get started. Start with book one because they are all interconnected.
EMT Cooper Hanover is nervous about going back to work. After what happened at the fire in a theater he has had all sorts of tests but none can explain his seizure. Part of that could be because he pretended not to know why it happened. Lia Youlos is the Muse of Comedy. She also has a day job as a hairdresser. She is drawn to the sad EMT. He saved her friend and he needs to be cheered up, but is it more ? This has got quite a bit of excitement in, and some new mysteries to solve. Our sexy hero has help from a very unexpected source. One of the villains has got trouble coming at him from all sides. It is the fourth book in the series. You could possibly read it on it's own but the series should be read in order because of the main story line. I'm totally addicted to this series.
If you love Greek mythology you will love this book , its the fourth in the Muse Chronicles series but it can be read on its own , Thalia or Lia as her friends call her is one of the nine daughters of Zeus reborn over & over again , their job being to make sure Kronos doesn't escape his prison . Each Muse has her own trait & Lia's is making people laugh .Each Muse also has her own guardian but it can take time to find them & how do you explain to modern man that the king of the Greek gods wants you to guard his daughter , can take some believing even if he has been experiencing weird things happening to him . Trying to destroy the daughters of Zeus has been the eternal task of the Order of the Titans who will stop at nothing to get what they want even arson & murder , plenty of twists with several people having their own agenda as well .
Lia is the human vessel for the Muse of Comedy. She’s a beautician and plays poker with some ladies at a retirement village. Cooper is a paramedic studying to be a doctor and is connected to the God Apollo. He saves Lia and her sisters when someone sets their theater on fire. While healing Lia and her sisters fiancé, something strange happens and he don’t know if he’s going crazy or what. Someone out there wants all the muses dead and will stop at nothing. When Lia explains that he is her Guardian, he doesn’t take it too well. Cooper is hiding something from Lia and she’s the type that digs until she gets her answers. With The Order after them, Lia and Cooper are in for a wild Ryde.
Great story with sex and suspense. I really enjoy this series. Sisters not my blood but by heart.
Who is Cooper Hanover? What does he do for a living? What do we find him doing on the night before he returns to work? What happens after his outing? For that matter, what happens during his outing? That was fun to read. Why does he think he is going crazy? What shenanigans do we find Ted and Bryce getting up to in this story? Who is Pamela? What does Ted say to her to enlist her help with his schemes? How does he know her? The whole Apollo thing tripped me out and took on a new meaning for me in this book. You need to read and learn more about Cooper and the others. This was such a good read!
