Ridmark Arban is ready to face the terrible Frostborn in a final battle. But even the mighty Frostborn themselves have been duped, for the shadow of Incariel has used them as its weapons. Unless Ridmark can defeat the Shadowbearer, the shadow of Incariel shall rise and devour the world for all time...
Standing over six feet tall, USA Today bestselling author Jonathan Moeller has the piercing blue eyes of a Conan of Cimmeria, the bronze-colored hair of a Visigothic warrior-king, and the stern visage of a captain of men, none of which are useful in his career as a computer repairman, alas.
He has written the DEMONSOULED series of sword-and-sorcery novels, and continues to write THE GHOSTS sequence about assassin and spy Caina Amalas, the COMPUTER BEGINNER'S GUIDE series of computer books, and numerous other works. His books have sold over one million copies worldwide.
First, a brief warning, do not read this book until you have completed all the companion pieces. This is the capstone of the series and contains many references that will be confusing to those who have not read the prior works.
The promise of many short companion stories, four years of waiting, and the 14 previous volumes is fulfilled. In truth, the journey feels much longer, but an epic tale is simply not written overnight, and this together in a beautiful conclusion.
According to the author, this book is his second longest, and as the conclusion of the epic, it rightly deserved the length. The lengthy departure from characters we love is decidedly reminiscent of classic works such as Dickens and Tolkien.
The book commences from the conclusion of the preceding novel with no break or introduction. The initial pace is slower without plodding, and before long, I found myself at the climactic moments of this novel. As there are many POVs, you travel rapidly through various aspects of the final battle and the movement waxes like a symphony to the dramatic crescendo and the final confrontation. The pace then mellows and the final chapters give a bird's eye view of the lives of our characters in the aftermath.
The power of this novel overwhelms the technical difficulties such as his use of the word "said" instead of the numerous synonyms that might have been utilized.
If a person is looking for the postmodern mildly conflicted antihero of dubious morality and ethics, this is not your story. However lovers of clear heroes, villains, and good versus evil will enjoy this story.
The fast pace and multiple POVs prevent it from being bogged down, and there are characteristic moments of levity. The final scenes bring the tale to a solid conclusion while leaving the world open for further exploration by new characters of another age.
On a personal note, this has been my favorite series by this author to this point, and this book again beats that out. I was sad to close the novel which is generally a good sign that the story is complete. Fortunately, there is a new series to open up in the next several months, and I can hardly wait for what comes next!!
What a great exhilarating final book. You should not read this book unless you have read the other 14 main stories as there are references to earlier novels sprinkled throughout this great novel. The action and continuous ratcheting up of the tension kept me glued to the pages within. The multiple viewpoints of the various characters helps keep the interest from ever waning. This book like the series has everything. Action, humor, tension, action and introspection.
Do the manetaurs and dwarves arrive in time? Can the defenders of Tarlion hold out against unbelievable odds? Can even the fabled Dragon night change the odds and save mankind? What will the new ShadowBearer do? What treachery does she have planned?
I could not put this book down I have been anticipating and dreading the final book for a while now. Jonathan Moeller did not disappoint in this conclusion to his epic tale. The Dragon Knight and the Keeper along with the unification of the various races creates an epic battle full of intensity and desperation. This is series has been a great read from start to finish, following classic heroes facing unbelievable odds. I have come to care so deeply about all the main characters and I am glad that he included a conclusion of sorts for each of the main characters.
For Ridmark and his allies its time for the final battle, the last battle in a war that's been raging 100,000 years. As the Dragon knight its his duty to fight to save his world! Will the dwarfs and manetaurs arrive in time to stop the Frostborn crushing the armies of the high king. Can Ridmark and Calliande be able to stop shadows destroying the world. And will the high elves help in the fight or cause ultimate destruction. Full of glorious battle scenes, true love, loss and sacrifice. I absolutely love this series!
I suppose I was fortunate inasmuch as I didn't run across this series until recently so I was able to read consecutive volumes without the agony of waiting for a new edition to be published until near the end. I haven't written reviews on each book as I consider this one continuing story. I have read some of the shorter publications but not all. I would like to see them condensed into one volume.
I found this final book to be a wonderful wrap-up of all the trials and tribulations our various characters had to endure. Ridmark and Calliande were of course the primaries and their relationship continued to strengthen. Morigana was certainly somewhat of a surprise as she finally achieved in death that which she had lusted for in life.
I agree with another reviewer that these volumes are best read in order. The short stories will give you a better understanding of a character's life but are not entirely necessary to enjoy the series.
I believe Barney Stinson would refer to this as epic and I cannot disagree.
I could not put this book down. Such a satisfying conclusion to a fifteen book series! The action picked up right from when the last book finished, which made me glad. The plot twists kept me guessing, and then the climax exploded and it was impossible to put down. I found the climax incredibly satisfying, along with the climactic battle itself. The resolution, as to be expected for such a long series, was successful at tying up the story lines for each of the main characters. I was delighted to read that some of the characters are returning in another series, which I can't wait to start.
An incredible series! This last book brings all the threads of the stories together& is the very best last book in an epic series that I have read.. This series is massive with near best saved for last. Ridmark & Calliendethe focus for virtually everything that happens in this book are two of the altimeter great characters. Maybe I can find one of Ridmarks sword to add to my collection. A must for EPICfantesy lovers
For those who have been following Frostborn and Jonathan Moeller for a while, know that this is some of his finest work yet. Everything built up since The Gray Knight comes crashing together in a climax to the series that will leave you cranking through the pages as fast as you can.
Started this series while on a world Cruise and was immediately hooked each story getting better and better. Plenty of action and numerous twists and turns full of great characters. The final installment was a real page turner really looking forward to the further adventures or Ridmark and Calliande
Having read the other 14 books in this series (plus many other Moeller novels) I am completely satisfied. War against the ultimate evil and the peace following all else. Each of the prominent characters are all included in the ending.
Well I have finally finished the last book of the frostborn saga 😥. What will I do now, I loved this series of books, well worth the time it took me to read them. Action, adventure, magic, battles, high elves, dark elves dwarves and love . From the start to the finish and it still leaves you wanting more.
Some things never change. The leaders don't seem to learn From earlier mistakes so it seemed a little same ol song and dance. Still enjoyable even after 15 books. This seris is great for thoughtless hero vs villan action. I recomend giving this seris a read eventhough there are miss placed words and editing errors in all the books.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, one other best ever. Thank you, Jonathan Moeller!!!! You ended it so well, and this is the best of your work so far. Thank you
A great ending to a very captivating series. Overall I liked the way the story was laid out. The characters were very distinct and their individuals stories played well together. Looking forward to more stories about Ridmark Arban and Calliande the Keeper.
I thought that was the end for ridmark and Co. .looks like there's another series coming, I'll be back in a few yrs when it's complete, I've actually read this whole series from start to finish in 3 months!
Action, Action, Action!! This final book in the Frostborn series is full of action. A great read. Looking forward to the further adventures of Ridmark and Calliande in the authors next series, Sevenfold Sword. I liked the ending as well. A few surprises.
What a great wrap up to the long series. It was so nice to see how everything played out instead of ending it without the final story lines. Very compelling series -- each book kept me up very late in the night.
Entertaining, interesting, good finale. Strong roles from all major characters (even Kharlacht), the hint from the past 11 books finally pays off. Villains still something of a weakness, but final encounter was pretty damn excellent. I enjoyed it a lot.
Read the first book in the series and was hooked. It's the type of book that once you start reading you can't stop until you get to the end.Loved every minute and read the entire series now I'm on to the next.
I couldn't stop reading! This was non-stop action. I got so engrossed in the story that I couldn't put the book down. There were some grammatical errors throughout the book but that is part for the course. I would recommend the Frostborn series to anyone!
I’ve been reading this for the past few years; I had no idea there were so many books when I started. It’s good, not great, but if you like fantasy and battles you will enjoy it. It can be pretty redundant with some phrases but overall it was enjoyable.
This was an overall great series! I really enjoyed the world and characters involved in it. It was an amazing end that tied up loose ends to complete the series!
What a great ending for this series. If you haven't started reading this series yet you need to. The characters and story are just outstanding. Outstanding Reading Everyone!!!
All I have to say is, it was a well done end and a well done series of books that I have loved from beginning to end. For those that love fantasy should pick this up and what a pay of at the end!
My 11 year old son told me I just HAD to read these books. He was hooked...my husband was hooked...and so am I! Packed with adventure and characters you grow to love, there is never a dull moment. I've lost sleep because I had to find out what happened next. Great read! Ah...the wisdom of an 11 year old...
One of the best books in the whole series especially the way he kept you wonder who would win the war. Not to mention the way he brought in new characters. As well as for some of the endings for which the long time friends ended. If you love fantasy fiction I couldn't recommend this series or any other of Moeller's series but top notch excellent reads.
Really great end of the series, I'll miss these characters!
It's not often that HF series end with a great book. Most authors tend to rush the final battle or not give enough details; luckily, it really wasn't the case here.
We get multiple POVs and a great final conclusion. Who knows, maybe we'll actually see some of these characters again at one point
