Setting Off Sparks

Rate this book
USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Bernard returns to the town readers are falling in love with… In one fiery moment, Finn Abrams went from cocksure firefighter to scarred survivor. Now all he wants is to put his life together again, get back on a hotshot crew, and figure out exactly what happened to him during the Big Canyon burnover. He never expected to be knocked off his feet by a gorgeous, no-nonsense stranger to Jupiter Point—the one woman who seems completely immune to his famous charm. Coolly practical, Lisa Peretti knows she won’t be in Jupiter Point for long. As an ER nurse in Houston, she helped a friend escape a dangerous situation. Now she’s hiding out in the little town, determined to keep a low profile. The last thing she needs is attention, especially in the form of the tabloid-starring, actress-dating, too-sexy-for-his-own-good Finn Abrams. Still, Lisa can’t resist someone who needs her help. As long as she can keep her distance, working with the local hero as he recovers from his burns should be no problem, right? Wrong. When danger follows Lisa to Jupiter Point, she's startled to find Finn ready, willing, and more than able to come to her rescue. Add to that a meddling movie crew, some kindhearted locals, and her own unruly heart, and Lisa quickly loses any shot at keeping her feelings under cover. Fire season in Jupiter Point is always smokin' hot...but this time it’s going to be Setting Off Sparks.

Finn, in one way or another, was an important character in all the Jupiter Point books. As I read them all, I felt that they were all leading up to Finn. Was I happy that he was going to find his HEA with a woman who appreciated him for who he was inside instead of his last name … most definitely. Was I happy that the woman who he would chose was strong, independent and sassy … absolutely.

I have loved Finn from the beginning. There was just something about him, about what he went through, where he came from to get where he was that just intrigued me. And, yes, I felt a little bit sorry for him. Something happened to make him run and I was dying to find out why. Boy, was I surprised. But, that wasn’t his whole story. His comeback to make it back onto the Hot Shots, his finally getting the trust of Sean back, finding the girl of his dreams. This is what made up the true Finn … not the Hollywood persona that his family thought that he should have. Here was a man that was funny, protecting, sexy-as-hell … insecure, angry and determined. And, I think that was the sexiest thing about him – his determination to find his true self, his determination to make the Hotshot crew, his determination to win the girl.

Ahhh, the girl … Lisa. She had no idea what to really think of Finn. Is he a Hollywood player or is he the sweet, romantic, sexy man that wants nothing more than to feed her cheesy pick-up lines and protect her? She’s running and doesn’t want anyone else to get hurt on her account. But, it’s hard to walk away from the McGraws, from the true friends she is making in Jupiter Point, from Finn. She has no choice but to run when she is found. She has to protect the people who have found a way to oust her from the cynic’s club and made her feel like a life-long resident of Jupiter Point. It’s Finn that won’t let her run and gets her to face the problem head-on. When she finally realizes what is going on, she has to go back home and bring down the people who are after her. Then, she has to figure out a way to get Finn to believe that she wants him, Jupiter Point and all the trappings that comes along with being the wife of a Hotshot.

I love this series. Jennifer Bernard just has a way with words. Her characters are all funny, but serious when they have to be. They all complement each other. Sean and Evie, Josh and Suzanne, Rollo and Brianna, Merry, Will the McGraws … they are all back and bring their own special comic relief to this story. I love them all but especially love Finn and Lisa. The story was strong, yet light … serious, yet comical … romantic, loving … it just had it all. If I could give this one more than 5 stars, I would.

"Sparks with a stranger --definitely not on her agenda."

Things are getting hot in Juniper Point once again!!

I've been waiting for Finn's story. He intrigued from the start.
Then at the end of Into The Flames when he flirted with his cheesy pick-up lines, I knew I had to know him!
Plus, it gave the first glimpse of Lisa, the Bad-A nurse who seemed mysterious, and yet, so enchanting.

Their whole cat and mouse game was so great to see. But, oh my gee, I wanted to jump into my kindle and push them together because the tension was sooooooooooo good!

"You fascinate me, Lisa. Why are you so fascinating?"
"I'm not fascinating. I'm perfectly ordinary."
"Not to me. I want to know everything about you. What you think, what you feel, how you feel, how you taste. I'm insanely attracted to you, Lisa. And unless I'm crazy, You're attracted to me too."
"Yes. Fine, I'm attracted to you. You're attractive. There's chemistry. Sparks. Amd of course I feel them. I'm a nurse, not a nun."

This story had many layers.
Yes, it's a love story, but it's also a story of redemption...with some suspense rolled in.

Finn went against Hot Shot protocal and he has suffered the consequences. Scars and all. With the help of Lisa, he slowly gets his life back in order.
But Lisa needs help in her own life, and Finn will do anything to make sure she's safe and secure.
He's her knight in shining turnout gear!

"God, I've been craving this moment for so long. I have no control over myself. I want to just touch you everywhere. All at once."
"Me too. My God. This is insane."

Once again, Jennifer Bernard has given us a great story with relatable characters, and a whole lot of heat!

I loved getting to know Finn and Lisa, but also revisting with the other Hot Shots and residents of Juniper Point!! I wish this town was real!! I want to go there so badly!!

I can't wait for the next book!!! Oh buddy...it's going to be amazing!!!

"It just takes the right person. that's all. Someone who can see past our beastly exteriors to the sappy souls inside."
"Did you just call yourself beastly?"
"Yeah. What are you going to do about it?"
"I'm going to make mad, incessant love to you. I'm going to keep you naked in bed until you forget the meaning of the word 'beastly'. I'm going to make you so happy, even your smile will set off sparks. Any more questions?"

It’s been sixteen months since the Big Canyon burnover, when Finn Abrams panicked, and disaster struck. His body is just about healed, albeit scarred, but Finn never quite managed to get his life back on track. He lived for the Jupiter Point Hotshots, and he wants to get back in. Lisa Peretti has been hiding for ten months. She left her position as ER nurse in Houston when she helped a friend; she knew the problems it would cause would change her life. Lisa and Finn had met a few months the year before when she was volunteering at the Breton lookout tower, not far from Jupiter Point, which provided a secure hiding place. Finn’s lame attempts at flirting with Lisa went nowhere, besides she was in no position to form any attachments. When Lisa and Finn meet again, this time he is not going to let “the girl in the tower” slip away from him.

At last, Finn’s story! Finn has been an enigma since the beginning of this series, and Jennifer Bernard does not disappoint! Readers who have not read the previous instalments will be able to appreciate this book without any problem as Ms. Bernard nimbly inserts pertinent past details, while the faithful will be awed.

SETTING OFF SPARKS? It’s more like a raging inferno! Where to begin! The chemistry, sexual and otherwise, between Finn and Lisa jumps off the page; their relationship is at the same time easy and difficult, and it is riveting to watch it evolve. Both are extraordinarily complex characters, and still evolve along the way. And don’t you just love a truly romantic hero? SETTING OFF SPARKS is a very sexy romance, but there is also a gripping suspense as well as the anticipated laughs with the rest of the Jupiter Point gang.

I could rave for ages! Ms. Bernard’s writing is absolutely flawless, the pace perfect throughout, and he author is equally at ease with scorching sex scenes, teasing banter between friends, and action sequences. I would also like to mention that Ms. Bernard never repeats herself in any way in the four books in the series. The secondary characters are also so well defined, that I would love to see more of Annika – a Hollywood actress. I have loved every book in the amazing Jupiter Point series, and the next instalment should be explosive.

You might have notice how I reviewed book #7 & #8 but missed, 4-6. It's not that I haven't read them it's that I haven't yet reviewed them. With 7 & 8 I joined tours for those so they had to be review at a certain date. Not to worry you'll see 5 & 6 here soon.

So back to Setting Off Sparks. I think this one everyone was waiting for. Let's be honest we wanted to know my about Finn and why he did what he did.

I really enjoyed this book. Of course I usually like what Bernard writes, I often like to believe that she writes just for me. It could happen so stop laughing! I always enjoy her characters and want to know more about them.

Like Finn!

When he made the choices he made you had to wonder why. I know I did. They really affected his life and career. He could have lost his friends and if fact many of his relationships are strained afterwards. I don't want to get to into what happened to him. I think if you haven't yet started this series you should and read it for yourself. You'll enjoy it and understand it better that way.

It's kind of crazy but every time you think you've got Finn figured out you learn that you don't. He's got tons of layers. But what shines the brightest is the fact that he's a really nice guy. I really liked his characters.

I also liked Lisa too. What she did for her friends was very noble. Her and Finn worked even if they didn't always think so. We could see it a mile away.

There are so many layers to both their stories that you won't be able to put the book down. You'll want, no...need to know what happens next.

If you haven't yet read the Jupiter Point series why not? So far it's a great series and I really love the people. Do yourself a favor and read it in order. Much better that way.

This book takes us back to Jupiter Point with another fantastic story! Finn Abrams is still dealing with the consequences of his actions during the burnover in Big Canyon last year. As the fire grew near a bizarre memory had him fleeing rather than relying on his training. He obviously survived but the scars, both physical and mental, have him fighting him way back. Lisa Peretti is new to Jupiter Point. She doesn't plan to stay long. Just enough time for the craziness she left behind to die down so getting involved in Finn's life just doesn't make sense. Mr. Charm and Humor doesn't want to take no for an answer though and she can tell he could really use her help with his injuries. Will she be able to resist him? Does she want to? When Lisa's trouble shows up in Jupiter Point Finn seems to be the one person she can rely on!

A great read and one you don't want to miss. I highly recommend it.

the intense feelings scorch the pages of the story. this a very well written book. I love Finn in this story, His humor draws you in and you will chuckle through the whole book. Finn and Lisa are spectacular together, you can't help but root for them and cringe at some of their decisions. Definitely a one click and Jennifer Bernard is definitely a one click author. I read this book for my honest review

Nurse Lisa Peretti is a hardworking, kind hearted person who is being pursued by someone wanting to steal some files. Her moving about brings her to Jupiter Point where she meets Finn Abrams a hotshot firefighter, with a kind heart and a flirt game unlike any other. This is another wonderful continuation in the Jupiter Point books. This read will have you on the edge of your seat wanting to see what happens next.

Another great Jupiter Point book! This time our favorite would be Hollywood Hotshot meets his dream girl, too bad she's a cynic when it comes to love! It was such fun watching Finn get the girl with romance and his natural charm and his relationship with Molly is so sweet! A bit of intrigue keeps the story moving along but it's Bernard's fun dialogue and the chemistry that really makes the story.

Sparks into Flames!

I think I've read just about all of Jennifer Bernard's books. Her San Gabriel Fireman were hot! I really enjoyed her baseball players, but her Hot Shot Firefighters from Jupiter Point are my favorite so far! I guess if she need another series, maybe a HotShot baseball team.
This story was great, with romance, mystery and laughter. Loved the fact that there were mysteries on both sides. Kept it interesting bouncing back and forth between Finn and Lisa. Keep up the great work Ms. Bernard.

Finn wants nothing more than being a hotshot. A long-buried childhood memory sends Finn running from a wildfire. As a result, he's badly burned and left with scars as a daily reminder. The rest of his old crew escaped the same fate by following protocol and NOT running. Since then, several of Finn's former crew have become hotshots for Jupiter Point. Finn wants to join the crew, but isn't sure the trust is there. He also realizes he's not physically where he needs to be either. Finn enlists the help of his former hotshot buddies with training and Lisa with massages to help his scar tissue.

Lisa, an ER nurse from Houston, helped a friend escape a domestic violence situation which involved a powerful politician. When odd things begin to happen, Lisa buys a motor home and escapes to Jupiter Point. Lisa first meets Finn in novel #3 of this series where she happens upon an engagement party being held in a tower. Lisa lived in the tower while watching for wildfires and hiding out from powerful politicians. She reconnects with Finn in this novel. While attending the wedding of friends, Lisa notices him limping and offers to help him. At first, Finn refuses because he doesn't want anyone to know he's not "fit" enough to return as a hotshot. When Finn realizes Lisa can help him to get back on the hotshot crew, he finally accepts help. Neither one expected that therapy would grow into friendship and eventually love....

I absolutely LOVED this novel! It was so different from the other novels in this series, but familiar. Jennifer Bernard intertwined the lives of the previous couples seamlessly throughout the novel. I rooted for Finn when he finally stood up to his father. I loved it when Lisa finally realized that she was NOT her mother and that maybe love was in the cards for her after all. I liked how repressed memories and their repercussions were addressed as well. It was the perfect mixture of love, mystery, sexy hotshots, "Hollywood", and real life issues all in one novel. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

3.5 out of 5

This is the third book I’ve read in this series and like the others it’s soooo good. I’m loving them. Finn Abrams is the hero in this book. He’s the object of the crush Brianna had in the previous book and now it’s his turn. He’s a rookie on the Jupiter Point Team. Previously he and a number of other firefighters were fighting a fire when there was a burnover. Rather than staying with the team, he had a nightmarish flashback and bolted instead of staying with the team. As a result he suffered some pretty serious burns and now he wants to get back on the team but he has to earn the trust of the head of the team and try and find out what caused the flashback he had. And at the same time he’s falling deeply in love.

Lisa Peretti is the object of his affections. He met her briefly at the end of the previous book and was smitten. He didn’t think he’s see her again but it turns out she’s currently staying in Jupiter Point. Finn does everything he can to win her affections and while she does develop feelings, she’s a woman on the run. In trying to help a friend she’s gained the attention of a not so good guy. When Finn finds out he becomes very protective of her.

As with all the other books in this series, I adore the hero. It turns out he’s not a coward or anything like that. Part of the good stuff of the book is him trying to recall his past and what it has to do with his panic attack. Now on the other hand I found Lisa more on the frustrating side. She’s constantly ready to run. She has become part of the community and with Finn and his fellow firefighters as guards and back-up, I don’t really get why she is so desperate to escape. And because she is, while she’s more than willing to have a sexual relationship with Finn, she insists that’s all it can be. And ‘cause Finn is such a great guy, I felt he deserved better.

**Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**

"Setting Off Sparks" is written by Jennifer Bernard, and it is the 4th book in her Jupiter Point series. It can be read as a stand-alone book. It features Finn Abrams and Lisa Peretti.

Readers were first introduced to Finn in "Set the Night on Fire," which is the first book in this series. In that book, you see Finn with his fellow hotshot crew, but he panicked and ran away from the fire, which could've endangered the lives of the other firefighters. In "Setting Off Sparks," you see what triggers him to do that. Finn has scars from that incident both physically and figuratively. He also has something to prove because he's now in Jupiter Point and wants to be part of the hotshot crew again.

Lisa is an ER nurse, but she doesn't plan to stay in town long. It was pretty much love at first sight for Finn when he saw Lisa at a tower. He tried to win her over with cheesy pick-up lines, but while Lisa was intrigued, she wasn't easily swayed by Finn's charms. Lisa needs to keep a low profile. She's hiding due to helping her friend in Houston from powerful people.

But what happens when Lisa and Finn see each other again? The story of Finn's hotshot crew surviving in the wildfire is becoming a movie. Will Lisa be able to keep a low profile, or will the people she's trying to hide from find her? Can Finn become a hotshot crew member again?

"Setting Off Sparks" is another wonderful addition to this series! I've been waiting for Finn's story, and it didn't disappoint! This story had romance and suspense. It will keep readers on their toes! Great job by Jennifer Bernard!

Welcome back to Jupiter Point! Finn Abrams is no stranger to Jupiter Point or to the Hot Shots. But will he be able to move on from the terrors of the Big Canyon burnover or the scars that it left both emotionally and physically on him? And more importantly will he even be trusted and earn his place back on the crew?

Bring in Lisa Peretti. Lisa is a trained ER nurse from Houston. She is currently working as a caretake and clearly hiding from something or someone. And unlike most people in town she is not affected by Finns' charms or good looks. Plus he's currently dating an actress. She is not interested in dating anyone much less a person who will bring her into the spot light. Finns' dad is a big Hollywood producer and like a lot of Hollywood types brings attention to anything or anyone involved with him. Throw in the fact that Finns' current actress girlfriend loves press of any kind. Including tabloids. But like so many things in Jupiter Point you never know what will happen. Finn and Lisa have seen each other before and clearly there have been some sparks. Once Lisa agrees to help Finn in his recovery you never know what will happen. Will the sparks between these two set a fire? Will Lisa stay in town or will Finn get burned once again?

Another great installment in the Jupiter Point Series will have sparks flying from the moment you turn the first page until the very end. Kudos to Jennifer Bernard on another great hit. The perfect way to wind down after a long day or just lounge around. Jennifer Bernard has a natural talent. You are reeled in from the first page and before you know it you are reading your last!

Smoky, sweet, sexy….

This series is all about fire and heat and not just in the forest! Finn is a fighter who has survived a lot in his life. When knocked down yet again, he struggles to understand what happened. Could he completely recover from this and still have the career – the life – he loves? He has to succeed – there’s no alternative – and there is help along the way from friends as well as Lisa, the beautiful nurse who is facing life-changing problems herself. Together, the sparks are off the charts and not from just the danger they are both going to face…

“I almost wish I could hate you. It would make a nice change from wanting to rip your clothes off.” >

I love this series that blends all the wonderful of sweet and sexy romance, tight-knit family/friendships with a splashy dash of danger to round it all out. This author’s characters are funny and charming – I mean really charming!

“You can’t even offer to dial back the charm without being charming.”

I love how Finn and Lisa bicker and laugh and love their way through some of the worst things that life can throw out them. My heart wobbled for Finn more than once as his battle was waged on more than one front. And the chemistry between them? Hot is the word…

“That wasn’t just an orgasm. It was an earthquake.”

I laughed and smiled a lot reading this rollicking romance full of all the feels I was hoping for. I love this group of hot shots and their families – can’t wait for more!

Swoon:
“If you’re afraid you’ll forget about me, don’t you worry. I’ll remember for both of us.”

A spark, a chance meeting becomes a forest fire between Finn Adams & Lisa Peretti. Finn is scarred, both emotionally & physically. In his first real test as a HotShot, a chance memory made him run instead of following his training. He could have caused someone to be hurt or to lose their life. It happened that he ended up being the only one hurt. Now he's determined to get back on the team & redeem himself.

Lisa Peretti spent a summer camping out in a fire tower keeping watch. It was boring, lonely & just what she wanted. After helping a friend leave an abusive marriage, she'd left her busy job as an ER nurse to lay low for awhile. She didn't expect to run into the King of cheesy one liners. Since she wasn't planning on staying long term, she didn't see any sense in starting a relationship but Finn couldn't be denied. When trouble finds her, Finn is determined to protect her.

Wow! Hot chemistry, sexy firefighters, intense sex, this book has it all! Jennifer Bernard has set the mark high for her next book. I didn't think anyone could replace Rollo in my heart but Finn is now the top of the list. The characters in this series just keep getting better & more complex. They continue to grow & so do their relationships. I love the interactions between the guys. You truly feel that the team is a family. I love the fact that time isn't the same in each book but that it continues so you see everyone age. This series is one of my favorite! Each book can to read as a stand alone but if you read one, you're hooked & will want to read them all!

Another winning story in Setting Off Sparks by Jennifer Bernard, the fourth book in her Jupiter Point series. This time, we meet Finn Abrams, former hotshot fire fighter, injured in the last fire when he went rogue for some reason. He came to Jupiter Point hoping to rejoin a spot on the crew. In the last story, while in the ranger’s tower Finn saw the photo of a woman and fell head over heels for her. In this book, we meet the woman, Lisa Peretti, an ER nurse from Houston who needed at break from her hectic job and hiding from the abusive husband of a woman she assisted in escaping her marriage. She was not in Jupiter Point to find love; in fact, she kept turning down Finn’s advances and corny pick-up lines. Trouble from Houston does follow Lisa and gives Finn a chance to come to her rescue to keep her safe and unharmed.

I loved how Ms. Bernard created these characters to go from strangers to friends to friends with benefits, with Lisa believing she did not want a future with Finn. She also illustrated to her readers, and characters that not only can one fall in love at first sight but that love can also sneak up on you without realizing it.

This was an enjoyable book with very likeable and authentic characters. I really enjoyed reading this book. Ms. Bernard drew me in and did not let go until I read the last page. I highly recommend this book as well as all others previously written by Jennifer Bernard to all readers and I for one cannot wait for the next story in this series.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

All Finn Abrams wants to do is get back to being a Hot Shot. In order to do that, he has to get to the bottom of the flashback that caused him to run instead of hunkering down during the burn over like the rest of his crew and work past the injuries he incurred when he ran. Lisa Peretti is in Jupiter Point temporarily. She left her job after helping a friend, and she decides to stay off the radar for a while, just in case there is trouble. When she meets Finn, his cheesy pick up lines intrigue her more than they should, and she finds herself wanting to help him finish his recovery. When trouble finds Lisa in Jupiter Point, Finn jumps in to help her. Can they find out who is after Lisa? Will she take a chance on the Hot Shot with a heart of gold?
I loved getting to know Finn. He is a genuinely good person beneath all the charm. Lisa is an amazingly strong woman that sees past his scars and his family connections to see Finn for the man he is.
These two fit together, you could see the sparks the first time they met. The characters were strongly developed; I loved reading their interactions with each other and the town around them.I enjoyed this story and couldn't put it down. I, again, found myself drawn into another Jennifer Bernard story, giggling and reading as fast as I could, although I hated reaching the end.

ARC for honest review with no compensation

Setting Off Sparks is the 4th book in the Jupiter Point series by Jennifer Bernard and what an awesome standalone book but you will want to read the other in this series too!!

This book is about Finn Abrams, a member of a Hotshot crew that was severely injured during a fire when he panicked and ran instead of getting inside his hut. Now some many months later in his recover he is determined to have another shot at being back with his Hotshot crew again. Then he sees a picture of a beautiful woman who is working in the lookout tower and his heart goes pitter patter……

Lisa Peretti, an ER nurse from Houston is on the run for helping a friend get away from an abusive husband but who is very powerful. She came to Jupiter Point to lay low and when she meets Finn she tells him he has really awful pickup lines but she is slightly smitten anyway. She sees the man he really is and not the scars that some people think make him different….

In the mix comes a movie about Finn and his crew surviving the wildfire, Finn’s so called girlfriend and his father. Can Finn and Lisa have a relationship, will his so called girlfriend mess it up, will Lisa be able to keep a low profile???

These are some of the many questions that make this book exciting to read…..suspense, romance and will a HEA be on the horizon???

I love Jupiter Point! It's the home of the Fighting Scorpions Hotshots wildfire crew and the sweet small town atmosphere makes me want to move there and spend my evenings taking advantage of the superior stargazing that made the town famous. Finn is the survivor of a blaze that left him scarred with burns 16 months ago. He's healed and he's worked hard to overcome the debilitating pain from the scar tissue that covers half of his face and his torso. When he meets ER nurse Lisa she offers to treat his painful scar tissue and that intimacy soon burns hotter than a canyon burn over. When danger follows Lisa to Jupiter Point she's forced to share the secrets of her past in the hopes that Finn and his hotshots can help to keep her safe. Setting Off Sparks is a sexy-as-sin romance that is charming and edge-of-your-seat intense, with plenty of characters that are simply delightful and very entertaining. Although these books read well as stand alone stories, I highly recommend the entire series because you can't help but fall in love with these brave men who put their lives on the line time and time again. I read a complimentary copy of this book and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.

Setting Off Sparks is the fourth book in Jennifer Bernard’s Jupiter Point series. I have to say I couldn’t wait to read Finn Abrams’s book. His character was originally introduced in the first book in the series: Set the Night on Fire. I knew at that time there was more to his decision to run during the burnover, and Ms. Bernard definitely provided us with the answers.

Lisa Peretti, an ER nurse is the perfect heroine for Finn. Not only does she have her own secrets that she’s running from, her past has followed her to Jupiter Point. I enjoyed watching her help Finn deal with his past and the scars that covered his body.

This was a wonderful story where love overcomes all. Finn uncovers the answers to the flashback that caused him to run during the Big Canyon fire, and Lisa is able to bring down the people that made her run.

Ms. Bernard is a fabulous storyteller. This a standalone book, but I suggest reading the remaining books in the series because they are just so good! Setting Off Sparks is a fast paced book that had me glued to my seat until the last words. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I received an advance copy of Setting Off Sparks. I voluntarily read and reviewed it and this is my true and honest opinion.

I love this series, set in Jupiter Point! From the HAWT Hot-Shots to the strong heroines, to the feisty old ladies, this town is perfect! Finn is the Hot-Shot that freaked during a burn over. His father is a movie mogul having the story capture on film. Finn had a memory come back to him while he was at the bottom of a creek bed trying to stay alive while burning tree fell across him. The memory was of another fire - with a different family. Now he's back, to get back on the team. And try to find this other family his father won't tell him about.
Lisa is on the run from her own problems. She thinks she'll hide out in Jupiter Point, be nurse to Evie's mom, not get too involved, until things quiet down and she can return to Houston. Finn falls for her on sight - of her picture - and tries and tries to get her to date him. He finally hires her as his nurse to help him stretch his scars to help him become a Hot-Shot again. But that only leads to them not being able to keep their hands off each other.
Then the danger follows Lisa to Jupiter Point. While Finn is busy trying to keep her safe, the craziness of his father's movie comes to town.
Will they figure out who's coming after Lisa and be able to prove it in time to save her life AND keep her in Jupiter Falls?

(Can I add more stars???) Every time I read a Jennifer Bernard book, I say it is my favorite; and I mean it each time. Setting Off Sparks is no different – loved, loved, LOVED it! It’s a standalone however it was such a great read and gave me the opportunity to visit with “old friends” from previous books. Just a few details, as I don’t want to get into any spoilers, but Finn Abrams was a Hotshot from the first book, who was burned and scarred in a fire. He’s trying to come to terms with that, get healthy, and get back on the hotshot crew. He meets Lisa Peretti, several times in fact, and he uses the cheesiest pickup lines in the world. Know that they are adorable lines, just as much as he is, and they are the basis of his and Lisa’s long journey to an HEA. Setting Off Sparks has excitement, intrigue, painful personal journeys (to work thru), and a growing love story throughout. It made me laugh and cry and yell and cheer – my favorite character to dislike was Stu but you’ll have to find that out for yourself! Highly recommend this story, and the series, and truly loved the book.

Jennifer Bernard nailed it! ‘Setting Off Sparks’ is sexy, fun, intense, and exploding with emotion. I was so excited to return to Jupiter Point and our beloved Hotshots. I was intrigued by Finn from the beginning of the series and was ecstatic to find out his book was next. In ‘Set the Night on Fire’, Finn panicked and ran from the burn over in the canyon instead of taking cover with the rest of his crew. In doing so, he barely escaped with his life and was left severely scarred, both emotionally and physically. In this book, we learn Finn’s history, the reason he ran, what he has had to endure, and everything he still is going through.

We were briefly introduced to Lisa in ‘Into the Flames’ and now we learn who she is, why she is in Jupiter Point, and the fear she now lives with.

I absolutely loved the fun banter and hilarious, cheesy pick-up lines, and hot damn, the chemistry was electric. They definitely set off sparks whenever they were together! The romance is breathtaking, sexy, sizzling, and toe-curlingly hot! The twists and turns, drama and suspense, keep you on the edge of your seat, anxious to see what’s going to happen next.

This is book four in the series, and even though both the H and h have briefly appeared in one or more of the previous books, this can be read as a stand-alone. But, seriously, you do not want to miss a single book in this series. How can you not want to read about all the sexy and hot-as-hell Hotshots that call the quaint town of Jupiter Point home?

Bravo, Jennifer, Bravo! Another masterpiece and perfect addition to the series!

I just love this series! From the small town of Jupiter Point itself; to the people who live there; to the brave group of men in the hot shot crew, what's not to love? I am never disappointed when I pick up a Jennifer Bernard book and was so happy to see this was Finn's story. I simply adore Finn! He is funny, sweet and sexy with a touch of vulnerability. That sense of humor and his deliberately cheesy pick-up lines drew me in and made me fall in love with him so fast. Lisa is an awesome heroine. A self proclaimed cynic when it comes to love and a superwoman as an ER nurse; she will prove to be a tough nut to crack. Finn and Lisa have some serious chemistry and are a perfect match!
They both need healing of a different variety and they sure live up to the title as they set off some serious sparks together and even start some fires of their own.
There is an awesome kind of suspenseful storyline interwoven with this otherwise funny sweet love story that give this book some great substance.
5 shooting stars for another delight in this Jennifer Bernard series!!!

Four and a half stars.

This was excellent.

Finn Abrams is scarred from a burnover, and while that was traumatic, he just wants to get back to normal and return to the hotshot crew at Jupiter Point.

Lisa Peretti doesn't plan on staying in Jupiter Point for long. She helped a friend out of a dangerous situation in Houston, and figured that laying low for a bit after wouldn't be a bad idea.

Finn's captivated by Lisa from before they actually meet in person, and he can't stop his mouth from saying ridiculous things to try to win her attention. But strangely nurse Lisa seems immune to his usual charms.

It seems that Lisa's still in danger, and he needs help with his scars and recovery. The two of them find that spending time together makes it nearly impossible to resist the sparks they're throwing off, and eventually those sparks end up burning pretty brightly.

Setting Off Sparks is a terrific small-town read, and Lisa and Finn are delightful, as are their friends. Can't wait to return to Jupiter Point again and again!

In Set the Night on Fire, the first Jupiter Point book, Jennifer Bernard introduces us to Finn Abrams who ultimately plays a huge role in the burn over that sends the Fighting Scorpions to Jupiter Point. In Setting Off Sparks, we finally find out what caused Finn to rabbit that fateful day, and see him find his own HEA. He meets his match in Lisa Peretti, badass nurse from Houston, who isn’t afraid to put everything on the line for a friend. Together they face an unknown adversary who wants the files Lisa took with her when she left. Alternating from light-hearted fun, to more serious almost suspense, this novel has a little bit of everything. Fans of the Jupiter Point series will enjoy additional glimpses of Molly and finally seeing Sean and Evie married. New readers can dive right in as everything is well explained. I really enjoy this series and can’t wait for the next installment.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

Whether it is your first visit to Jupiter Point or your fourth, you'll enjoy the camaraderie of the Hot Shots, their group of friends, and their community. The group relies on each other professionally as they fight the most difficult fires and personally as their personal lives light up with the flames of passion. Finn Abrams is the Hot Shot in the hot seat this time revealing as he has a flash back during a wildfire burnover that resulted in damage to his face. Lisa Peretti is an ER nurse who is employed as a personal traveling nurse as she attempts to hide from her past. Watching them resist their attraction and work through the difficulties from their past along with the interference of a movie crew makes for an enjoyable read. I'm looking forward to reading more firefighter books from Jennifer Bernard.
I received this book as an ARC and this is a voluntary and independent review.

Setting Off Sparks in more than one way! Finn is part of the Hot Shots of Jupiter Point when he was involved in a fire, with lasting scars mentally and physically. Lisa is a newcomer to Jupiter Point, an ER nurse with her own secrets. Finn hires her for physical therapy, he wants to get back to fighting fires but there is a plenty of sparks that are hot in romance department. Soon Lisa is fighting for her own life when her mobile home is torched.

This is a fast paced story of romance and a little bit of suspense that will keep you turning the pages. Loved Finn and Lisa, their chemistry is so hot. Everyone needs a little Finn in their lives. He is so compassionate, fun and loving. Lisa on the other hand is nonbeliever in love but loves her career as a nurse. I love the friendships of the Hotshots, so very true of firemen!!

This is the fourth book in the series, but can be read as a stand alone. I highly recommend this book!!

Setting Off Sparks is such a fun, sweet romantic story that I didn't want to put it down once I started reading it. We have seen Finn throughout the Jupiter Point series and fell in love with him from the beginning, in this book we get to know him even better. You just can't help but love him. Finn is used to winning over women with his charm and when he sets his sights on Lisa he's instantly attracted to her. The problem is Lisa doesn't instantly fall for him and he has to work for her attention. Lisa doesn't believe in love and marriage because of her family, though she's having a hard time resisting Finn. When Lisa's past finds her in Jupiter Point, Finn and her newly made friends jump in to help her. Setting Off Sparks is a great addition to the Jupiter Point series and one you definitely need to check out!

Another winner from Jennifer Bernard! Setting off Sparks is part of her Jupiter Point series which features Hotshots based out of the town Jupiter Point and the women who bring them to their knees. I love this series because even though each book is a standalone book, you get to visit with the crew in all of the books. Because of that, I do recommend reading them all! This book features Finn who was introduced in the first book of the series where we only got to see a glimpse of his character. Setting off Sparks gives us a chance to get to really know him and his history. Even though he didn’t start as my favorite person in that first book, he now is one of my favorites! If you love a book that keeps you turning the pages, then read this one! I never want to put one of Jennifer Bernard’s book down or want them to end! I highly recommend this winner!
