Their Runaway Bride

Rate this book
A Bridgewater Ménage Series Prequel!

See how it all begins! Returning from Europe, Ann learns she is to marry a man of her father's choosing once they arrive in New York. Refusing, she runs away, although she can't go far on a steam ship. Only as far as the stateroom of a very handsome soldier.

There's only one guaranteed way to save a woman from a bad marriage, and that's to marry her himself. Ann is surprised Robert will go to such lengths to protect her, but stunned when she won't just be marrying him, but his fellow soldier, Andrew, as well.

Author note: This is a panty melting prequel with two hot soldiers and a woman they vow to protect. This MFM is all about the woman!

Note: At the time of this review, this is included in Audible’s Plus catalog. At 90 minutes, it’s not worth a credit - but for free, it’s OK.

This short story is best enjoyed when you’re looking for “they’re all virgins” MFM erotica with very little story development and only mediocre attempts at making it “historical”.

Escaping an arranged marriage, Ann runs & hides out in second class of the Steam ship she’s traveling on with her father. There she encounters Robert & Andrew who both want to marry her. Most of the story centers around the sex immediately following their hasty marriage.

As this is a prequel, there’s not much to the plot other than the slight explanation that many ex-soldiers who served near a country that practices polygamy. They have decided to start their own city/ranch in the “Montana territory” where they’re all free to share wives.

Narration:
Kylie Stewart’s narration is interesting. She handles a lot of accents and speaking voices well, but there’s an almost robotic cadence to the main text. I’m not sure if it’s her or Vale’s sometimes clipped writing.

I had high hopes for THEIR RUNAWAY BRIDE because I loved the concept of the book and the series but the writing just didn't live up to it. This is just a novella so there's not a lot of background on the characters, which is to be expected for a shorter read. However, the dialogue between Ann, Robert, and Andrew was so unnatural and weird to read. The way they interact and talk to each other just didn't work and really distracted me from the story. Especially as the guys began instructing Ann in the bedroom, it was all so odd sounding.

Audiobook edition
1h 12m (1.3x speed)

It felt very disney princess the way she's overly innocent. It was a nice intro to the series. If I continue these it will be kindle edition and not audio. The set up was interesting with two men in marriage to protect the bride. This one felt like love at first sight for the guys, so insta-love/marriage to escape a power connect arranged marriage. Pretty much smooth sailing from the moment of escape. I'm curious about the other guys. I liked that there was no jealousy. They were all in from the start.

I always enjoy this author. Two sexy hunks and one tiny lady enjoying a special type of lifestyle. A fun read.

This short story for adults focuses on a young lady who ditches a control freak father for two control freak men. Women really had little say over their lives in historical times. Other than the inside of a stateroom, we don't see any settings.

Strong language and adult scenes. I downloaded an ARC from Instafreebie.

I got this story as part of a collection of the first four books in this series and paid 99 cents for all four stories. Since this was pretty much a free book, I'm giving it 4 stars. If I had paid for it on its own I think I'd be more inclined to give it 3 or 3.5 stars. There's really not much to it.

Ann has a domineering father who insists she marry a man to improve his business interests. She does not want to marry him but is stuck on a ship traveling from Europe to the United States with them and these are historical times when men could force a woman to marry. She hides in a cabin and interrupts Robert's bath. Robert and Andrew had already noticed Ann on the ship and had intended to court her when they arrived in the states. They protect Ann from her father, Robert marries her, and they started a menage relationship.

It's all pretty straight forward but they don't give Ann much choice in anything. They decide they know what's best and that includes what happens in the bedroom. She is young and a virgin but since their actions excite her they assume it's all ok. There are no candlelight dinners or big romantic gestures, but it does end happily for Ann.

Only being generous.
Unfortunately it's just smut, but with a lot of triggers, so if you're a little sensitive, don't recommend this.
I don't think I'll recommend it to someone anyway.
I'm at the 3rd book in the series and I'll stop... it's just too much, can't enjoy even the hot parts, it feels like physical and psychological abuse. Nay, nay!

Well written and fast paced novella to set up the Bridgewater series. Looking forward to more stories of the former soldiers traveling to Montana territory to start their unconventional lives.

This is going to be a great series to read. I really enjoyed it. Ann is this shy woman not wanting to marry the man her father wants for her to. Then she meets Robert and Andrew who sweep her off her feet and married in no time. You need to read it to find out how it ends.

IT WAS DARK AND CARNAL AND DIRTY AND NAUGHTY, BUT I LIKED IT

Robert and Andrew were returning to the US after a military tour to Egypt, along with another group of soldiers returning from Mohamir where the custom was two men with one woman. Anne is nothing more than a pawn to her father, forcing a marriage to Mr. Atherton to merge his railroad with her father’s land holdings. Determined not to be used, she escapes right into the cabin of Robert and Andrew and agrees to marry them and move with them to Montana Territory to a new area called Bridgewater. “How could I choose? While they looked so different, I was attracted to them equally.” “A husband’s job is to love her, cherish her, protect her, possess her and claim her.”

The plot will have Anne needing to escape and Robert and Andrew wanting to take a wife, together. The story is an M-F-M relationship.

This story is part of the Bridgewater Menage series, but each story in that series is a standalone book. Bridgewater is a secluded and private town in the Montana Territory that will be inhabited by a group of people who live a polyamorous lifestyle. One woman for two, and even sometimes three men. All women in Bridgewater are protected, loved, and cherished by the men of this community.

Note: I read this story in the HERO TO OBEY box set from 2016.

This is the prequel to the Bridgewater Menage series. Ann's father is planning on arranging a marriage between Ann and his business partner, but Ann finds out and runs in fear. But, she's on a ship crossing the ocean, so she can't go very far. She ends up running into Robert's stateroom, where Robert and Andrew take one look at Ann and decide she belongs with them. They just need to convince her of that fact. This isn't your typical romance, and Ann has a ways to go to really come into her womanhood, but Robert and Andrew are both alpha men who know how to teach her the ways of love. Short, spicy, and left me wanting to learn more about the Bridgewater folks.

This was a short but hot introduction to the Bridgewater series. The first book actually starts off with Ann already married to her men so this is a chance to see how it all started. Definitely recommend to anyone who has read any of the other Bridgewater menage romances.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novella.

This is an erotic romance. Ann Geary is on a return ship from a trip to Europe with her father. it is a few years after the Civil War. Her father is going to force her to marry a business associate, Atherton who owns a railroad. Her father is doing to further his own fortunes in land holdings. Ann Hates Atherton and is told she will be married to him that very night after dinner, by the ships Captain.
On board are 6 former soldiers who had all been in Egypt. Each man wants to marry and share a woman with his friend and all plan to move to the Montana Territory. Richard and Andrew have their eye on Ann, even though she is always surrounded by two men. They will figure out a way to make her their bride.
Ann runs from her first class cabin and heads down into 2nd class to hide from her father. she runs through the door she has seen a porter just leave. She comes face to naked man with Andrew, who thrusts his erection at her and asks if she likes it. She turns her back in embarrassment. She has never seen a naked man, she has spent her life in Catholic schools, as her mother died trying to give birth to a baby boy, which would have been her father's heir. Richard enters through the adjoining door and is just as hot and bothered, but fully clothed.
Ann tells them she is hiding from her father, who is making her marry Atherton tonight. Andrew and Richard offer to marry her. she has never heard of two husbands for a woman. She agrees to marry, and since she has seen Andrew naked, he is the one who will marry her. There is a pounding on the door and Richard whisks Ann through the side door and locks it. Andrew answers his door fully naked, and when Ann's father says he was told she was seen coming into his room, he allows the rotund man a chance to try to enter his room, but blocking the door with his large penis. Her father leaves in a hurry.
Richard gets the Captain and he weds Andrew and Ann.
Ann spends the next two days naked being loved and taught how to perform sex acts for her two husbands and loves every moment of it.
The day to disembark the ship in New York arrives, Will Ann and her husbands be able to get away from the ship without her father finding her? Will her father kill her for not marrying Atherton?

🌸 ¡Hola lectores! (●’◡’●)ノ
Hoy les traigo una nueva reseña. Se trata de “Their Runaway Bride” por Vanessa Vale.

¿Lo han leído? ¿Lo conocen?

📖 𝐋𝐨 𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐝𝐫𝐚́𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞

-Libro 0,5 de la serie Bridgewater Méneage

-Novela de romance erótica del siglo XIX

-Se desarrolla en un barco

-Clichés: Instalove, matrimonio por conveniencia, poligamia

-Escenas super picantes 🌶️🔥

-Narrado por los tres protagonistas

-Libros muy corto: 57 páginas

📖 𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨́𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥

Ann is trapped, literally and figuratively. She’s to marry a man to further her father’s empire!! She wants loved, he wants her intended’s (railroad company?) Ann wants to be loved and cherished for her, not for what she can bring to the table as a dowry!! But before the day is out, Ann will become the wife of her father’s associate!!! She can’t even run, there is nowhere on a ship that Ann can even hide. What’s a girl to do?

Robert has been watching a pretty little thing on the ship that Andrew (his best friend) and and he are on. Meeting her for the first time was an accident, but since then he’s been watching her, he knows she is the one for both of them. They mean to marry and protect her between them. But he knows he’s on borrowed time, she promised to another (she doesn’t look happy about it) so how does both Robert and Andrew go about securing their future to the lovely young woman?

The answer comes when Ann barges onto Roberts room. She’s hiding from her father. Both Robert and Andrew seize their opportunity and arrange to “marry” Ann to save her from the horrid Mr Atherton.....

It’s a very short story. But it's a fun little read.

We also get to meet the other men that will look to add to their “family”

And so Bridgewater is formed and created. A ranch area in Montana. Where women will be cared for, cherished and loved, just with two “husbands” 😉

A menage romance set in the "wild west"? Where do I sign up! This story was fun, naughty, and just different enough that I couldn't resist reading it!

Ann is a naive girl, who has found herself in a sticky situation. Brought up by her father, after her mother's death, she has been told she has to marry a man she has no desire to. She wants love, and romance, and has instead been given to her father's business associate. What's a girl to do? Run away, of course! But Ann is on a ship, with limited places to hide.

Robert and Andrew are US military, coming home from Africa, to resign their commission. They plan to build a home, and take a wife together, modeling their life after those of a small African Country. When they spot Ann, there is an immediate connection, and they want to "woo" her. Little do they know that she is going to literally fall into their laps!

This story was so fun! And HOT! Take a quirky menage, add in a little BDSM, and you have a recipe for a story that will grab the readers! I loved the immediate connection between the characters, as well as the unlikely setting. This is a fabulous beginning to what promises to be an awesome series!

Pure lust and nothing more

Suspend all reality as you read this short novella. The setting is on board ship sailing into New York. Ann's father is giving her until after dinner on board and then she is to marry as part of a lucrative business deal, a man she loathes.
Leaving first class she descends to second class and rushed into a cabin to hide. There she confronts a naked man and before she knows it, another man in uniform enters through the connecting door.
Robert and Andrew are U.S. Soldiers returning from overseas duty. They (with like minded men in board ship) believe that two men should share one woman to protect and care for. They had noticed Ann previously and were determined to woo her. Fate lends a hand and soon she is married to Andrew by the ship's captain. Then the fun begins.
There is obviously no real story here as they never leave the cabin and all emphasis is on the acts performed between them. It is what it is...pure lust and nothing more.

Short and steamy historical romance

When Ann runs away from her father to escape an arranged marriage, she finds herself in the cabin of two very handsome and one very naked soldier. Willing to do almost anything to escape this marriage she agrees to marry them. What she doesn’t expect is to be so thoroughly entranced by the sensual world or by the pleasure of having two husbands.

—-

This is a very erotic romance novella. Most of the plot is exactly what’s in the blurb. And there isn’t a lot of set up or cording before you get straight to the main event.

That being said it’s a very steamy and fun novella. The sex is hot. And is on the edge of BDSM. There’s some pretty decent consent considering this is a historical romance. But it’s not totally perfect which is why the loss of a star. There’s some great lampshade hanging. It’s Insta lust not Insta love which I appreciate.

Honestly if you’re looking for some pretty good historical romance sex this is for you.

Four stars.

This short story is the prequel to the rest of the Bridgewater Menage series. It is a standalone story. On a ship bound for New York are six soldiers, done with their service in and near Egypt. Two are Americans and four Europeans. All have one thing in common, when they take a wife, she will be shared by both husbands.

Ann is the rich daughter of an American businessman. He has promised his daughter to a businessman in the railroad industry to cement profitable gains for them both. Ann dislikes her father's choice and refuses. He tells her they will wed on the ship that night. She runs, right into the protective arms of Robert and Andrew, the two American soldiers. They devise a plan to save her from both her father and her suitor, but it means becoming the wife of two men she has known for mere minutes.

This story would have benefited from more substance in plot development. It all seemed bit ridiculous in the timetables given.

Ann and her two protectors, Robert and Andrew...

I gave this book 5 cups of steaming java. Well written from beginning to end, gave enough sufficient details of the characters and their attractions were strong from a distance until she runs into the men's room and gains protection from them by marriage to escape from an arranged marriage through her father's business. There are hints of other men lime Robert and Andrew for the next few books, I can only imagine the book series to be of good stories with strong attractions between characters. Only thing I wish is that there were little more to the ending of this story with Ann and her husbands, especially after her first taste of having a device to train her in preparation for both her husbands.

I guess it’s a prequel so that’s why the book is so short, but man there’s almost no storyline.

A young woman with a cruel father was on a ship heading to NYC, I’m not sure if it’s the 1800’s or 1900’s but women have zero rights in her time and she’s very innocent.

Her father beats her and is trying to marry her off like cattle to help his business venture. When she was to be married in the ship to her father’s business associate she ran away and hid in someone else’s cabin.

Two ex soldiers who were looking for a wife to share and within 2 hours of meeting they were married in their cabin by the captain & spent 2 days in the cabin for their honeymoon.

When the ship docked & it was time to go there was a disagreement between her father & her men. I think we will see him again…

ARC - I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
The is a very fast paced quick read.
This is the story on how Ann meet Andrew + Robert.
The beginning of "Bridgewater"
The story was smoking hot.
Ann was traveling w/ her father + Mr. Atherton.
She was to be "married / sold " to Mr Atherton.
Instead she decided to get married to somebody else.
Andrew + Robert knew that they would be sharing a bride.
Ann was a little hesitant at first. It was just not done.
Andrew + Robert just had to change her mind + show her the benefits of having 2 husbands.
Great ending!

I'm taking this with a grain of salt - it IS a prequel and it IS a novella, so it goes without saying that things would feel rushed and that I wouldn't get the feeling of true affection developed after only two days together.

The writing isn't the worst I've ever seen, and I'm intrigued at the premise that is introduced here about a group of former soldiers who want to establish a ranch in the new Montana Territory on which they can live their menage lifestyles in peace. I'll check out the first book in this series to see how it goes, but there better be a whole lot more development - of characters, plot and the world - or I'm out.

This one is a .5 book, so of course it's going to be quick and the romance characters are going to be fast. That being said, it gave a little bit of Titanic's Jack and Rose vibes, but with a happy ending (no pun intended). The premise is interesting with them having their own town where they can have people of similar beliefs together, but not in any sort of religious or cultish way (so far as I can tell from just beginning this series).

I give it 3 stars for being able to catch my interest. Usually the in-between books and .5 books are only "meh" to me. Oh! And it also got me to research about Mohamir, which was nifty to learn about!
