JAMES 516 (2016 EPIC eBook Award Winner for Best Mystery)

Could a deep and dark secret be behind the sniper-style killing of a sheriff’s office captain, or is it simply the work of a madman with a rifle? Whatever the case, the killer is taunting the cops with a mysterious message, and Police Sniper London Carter is determined to decipher the message and capture the murderer.

Will London solve the mystery in time, or will more officers die before he can bring the killer to justice?

PROVING GROUNDS

When the sniper-style murder of an alligator poacher puts two rival families on edge, Police Sniper London Carter and Detective Sergeant Dawn Luke join forces to solve the case. But they'll have their work cut out for them as the two families recruit small armies to fight each other and the FBI becomes involved in the case.

It doesn't take London long to realize they're dealing with a professional killer, but the motive for the murder is far from clear. Will he and Dawn solve the case before it's too late, or will the swamps of Louisiana run red with the blood of the rival families and the cops who are trying to stop them?

SILENT TRIGGER

Days after Police Sniper London Carter resolves a hostage situation at a local car dealership, Detective Sergeant Dawn Luke calls upon him to assist her with a mysterious death investigation. The cause of death is not obvious, but the body is found in a peculiar position and the individual is connected to the recent hostage situation, so something seems amiss.

London and Dawn end up facing numerous roadblocks in their quest for the truth--including an unidentified body, uncooperative witnesses, and a killer tornado--and through it all they start to develop feelings for each other. But the case is growing complicated and dangerous, and if they’re not careful, one of them could end up like their victim…dead and naked on a cold morgue slab.

I bought this only for book 3 as I had already read Books 1 and 2. A bit of a disappointment to be honest.
Maybe, it was only in comparison with Book 1 which was my book of the year so far, and Book 2 which was also excellent if not reaching the heights of Book 1.

So, Book 3 - "Silent Trigger" - it starts really well with a hostage situation requiring a sniper, but from then on, it was just like any other crime book, and not really an interesting crime. There seemed to be no follow-up to anything and I got the impression even the author was bored as the ending was rushed, not atypical of these books so I was quite surprised. Usually, the endings seem well planned and written. Not so Book 3. The whole book didn't have the magic "entertainment value" of the first two.

Anyway, hoping it is just an aberration as I have just bought the Books 4-6, so we will see how they compare.

Not your run-of-the-mill crime novel

I was expecting more of the crime is committed, bad guy gets chased, then law enforcement is triumphant storylines prevalent in crime novels, but there were so many twists that I almost lost the thread - I couldn’t figure out whodunit! I can’t wait to read the rest of this series.

Great series

A short series of three stories, all different but somehow, all the same. A good read and kept me quiet for a few houts

Wow! The first half of The London Carter series has introduced me to a new view and understanding of the world of law enforcement. BJ Bourg’s brilliant mind and years of personal experience is the reason why this series is such a hit! Bourg incorporates his background in law enforcement with his creativity to produce this suspenseful mystery series.

In Book 1, James 516, Bourg hits the ground running! This book is filled with non stop action and jaw dropping twists and turns. No one is safe in this book. Just when you think a character is in it until the end, Bourg pulls the trigger (literally) on them! There is nothing better than not knowing who will live or die in a storyline. This is a must read!

In Book 2, Proving Grounds, we are taken deep into the dank, darkness of the swamps of southeast Louisiana. The mosquitos are buzzing, the bayou is lazy, and of course bodies are dropping. More plot twists are waiting for you, and you will keep guessing who is responsible for these murders in the swamp. Pick up Book 2, and don’t put it down until the end! Another must read.

In Book 3, Silent Trigger, we slow it down a little and shift gears a bit. We learn more about our lead characters, and the developments in their relationships. The action continues in this book, but in a different way. You are in for a wild ride that digs up the past and brings it to the present. The body count grows and the clock is ticking to prevent another body from growing cold. Continue the London Carter series and finish off this box set! Great job BJ Bourg, and I am excited to see what part 2 has in store for us!

Excellent series

Fascinating series of thrillers about a police sniper cum detective. It is a mixture of first person chapters in the voice of London Carter, and third person chapters describing events from the “outside”, for some of which London is present, others he is not.

The books are intricately plotted and take you inside the heart of police work in the bayous, and in particular inside the hearts and minds of trained snipers. The writing is compelling (I stayed reading until 1am to finish one book) and it is clear that the author is writing from personal experience and training (just check his bio).

Very occasionally the English sounds a little odd to a Brit, like the use of ‘whelped’ where we would say ‘yelped’, but this may be local idiom and is certainly not enough to detract from the story.

I have now read six of these London Carter books on the trot and I am ready for more. Thoroughly recommended.

James 516

The beginning of an incredible story. Lots of characters to enjoy. I had a great time with my assumptions, what would happen and how it would end. Definitely surprises along the way.

Proving Grounds
I like London hes such a dedicated cop and good man. This story was a puzzle for me most of the way through. I like that! Nothing worse than figuring out a story beford you get to the end.

Lots of connections in here some you could see and others that stayed hidden until BJ was ready to reveal them.

Silent Trigger
Yikes! Angry people. Lots of them and so many secrets. Once again London is on the hunt for the bad guy...but This time its a real cold case.

Love the tension between Dawn and London. Keeping it spicy but not taking away from the action of the story. Shes a clever lady and keeps London on his toes. They also work well together.

I am stingy with stars and follow what I think the Good Reads designation means. The fist of this series bothered me enough not to touch it again for a few months. the main character just rubbed me the wrong way.
I finally finished the next two in this series and found the writing style/character depiction slowly changing over the next two. I appreciated them more but still am in the middle of it's OK and I liked it.
2.5 if I am looking for something to read I might try the next but my to read list is rather long...

These are enjoyable stories. The culprits are somewhat well hidden. London Carter seems like a quiet physically strong man. His background is the big mystery. I do have to wonder why a rural county in Louisiana needs a sniper crew. The sniper crew members are executioners. Stumbling seems to be the key to London Carter's inquiries. He stumbles across a mysterious crime then stumbles across an attractive woman, then stumbles across a solution to the crime. The switching form first person to third person narrative moves the story and keeps the stumbling interesting.

Lent to me by my brother, it's easy to see why he thought the series good enough to pass along. I wasn't too crazy about the first book, which had a lot of military stuff in it. However, it set the stage for a good couple of tales. There's bad guys, shooting, plausible scenarios, interesting setting, believable characters, and a tiny bit of romance. I could see this series becoming a very popular TV show!

You can definitely tell the author has experience what he is writing about. They are gripping, tense, plot flows with characters you can love and what. they are going thru. When one is lost, you feel the lost as the others in the office do. Great series, readers won’t be disappointed and want to read the whole series.

Held My Interest

I like a good yarn, and this writer does a good job telling his tales. I would have added a star, except for Bourg's annoying insistence on confusing "yelp" with "whelp." He has, in at least two of his books, characters who "whelp" when startled. I found this startling, as well, seeing that the verb whelp refers to birthing puppies!

Good series

Really enjoyed these books although to be honest it felt more like one long book and 3 cases
I like getting to know the characters in any series and 3 books in I still don't really know London Carter so I suppose more to discover.
I thought book 1 had the best story line and London running the police sniper team makes the cases a little different from the norm

Excellent

Well written, the tornado description had my heart pounding and the sniper training was interesting and informative. The characters were complicated, intelligent, and at times compassionate. I intend to read books 4-6.

Interesting point of view, good character's and solid whodunnit with nice twists.
The 3 books were very close together in timeframe so it was easy to read back to back to back.

Worth keeping in mind for the next books in the series.

London & Dawn.

Well, all the twists and of the cases they work notwithstanding, including the drama, once you finish book 3 you’re hooked!

Looks like I need to read the next 3 to see how things turn out with London, the ice man sniper and his beautiful detective partner Dawn!

I fast moving twisting plot

This is my first read of the London Carter series. It’s every bit as good as his series on David Wolfe. Fast moving with a storyline twisting and turning the whole way.

B J Bourgeois Mysteries

I have to admit that I liked the characters in the 1st set of books better than the London series. I’m not sure why maybe more depth but all of Mr Bourg books are so convoluted that it was always a surprise at the end at who did what.

Good read, lots of twists.

This was an excellent set of books. I thought books about a sniper would be rather boring but Bourg knows how to write! I am really looking forward to the rest of the series.

All three books were good reading. The author is very knowledgeable of what he writes about and does a fine job of making several cases out of one.

Easy reading. Nice plot twists. I prefer better writing and, but for the price this was fine. Better than a lot of the free, but terrible reads on kindle unlimited.

Kept me reading...through 3 books.

Loved this. I was hooked with the easy dialogue, but embedded details. Each story is connected and continues the development of the character.
