As far as zombie books go, this one delves a little bit darker, nobody is safe from this authors penmanship, she wrecked havoc on these characters, broken hearts left in the debris. Don’t form attachments to these characters because you never know what this author is capable of throwing at you.
Fast paced with many characters introduced along the way.
There I was wrapped up in a slow burn romance within the middle of the apocalypse only for that character to fall victim to a jealous unhinged character as she killed her. Ashes to ashes as my favourite character died..
I'll definitely be tip toeing into the next book..Because this was book#1 and this was brutal..

First, I liked that it was set in South Africa. A lot of the area was not familiar to me. That being said, the author then didn't inundate with South African slang just to prove that she's the real deal. The story progressed well. Everything wasn't all bad or all good (or as good as you can be in a zombie apocalypse). The ending was such a surprise to me and am I bad that I liked it? No safe endings for this author. I plan on reading more by the author.

Starts with a bang, and just keeps going. There were brief moments of respite, but only to launch the next bang. The story went at breakneck speed with tons of action, and plenty of gore. This is my favorite kind of zombie novel!
It's told from multiple POV's, all of them with clear, individual voices. Most characters were likeable, and even the bad guys were well done. Expect heartache when your favorites die, the author doesn't mess around.
I also liked that the setting is in South Africa where the author lives. It gave a different feel to the story.
Even if you don't like zombies, you might like the action scenes, and the gore.

I started this book during my March 2022 Audible deep dive, but did not complete it during that month.
Although this is a "traditional" zombie story, viewed from several viewpoints, three things set this one apart. One, it is set in South Africa, which is a new setting for zombie fiction for me. Two, the ending shocked me, something that does not happen very often to me anymore in this genre. The third is that it is well written, very well written. I am planning to read more in this series, and try and find more from the author, Baileigh Higgins.

I just finished "Last Another Day,"then read (included at the end) first chapter of the sequel, Die Another Day."
It's going to be tough waiting around to see what happens with Nadia, and her hands, and...that rooftop!
I enjoyed this one so much, that I bought and read "Survive Another Day," and just now purchased "The Black Tide."
I like the author's style of writing, I like the character interactions and detail...and I hope to see "Die" coming soon. Don't leave Nadia (metaphorically) hanging! :0)

On the day of the outbreak Morgan's husband attacks her. He was once a loving man, but has now turned into nothing more than a monster. Morgan escapes her home and is full of fear when she finds out that the world will never be the same again. Morgan only has one thing in mind and that's to get to her family. She needs them more than ever and they need to pull themselves together to find a way out and to survive. Who will make it out alive? And who will have what it takes to stay sane in a world filled with madness?
When Morgan and her family find a relatively safe place they start building up some kind of a life again. They have to go out for necessities and go on runs to stock up on supplies. Sometimes they also find other survivors. Morgan has lost so much already and this is taking its toll on both her and the others. They have to rethink their strategy and determine if their sanctuary will hold or if they have to find a new safe haven. When danger lurks around every corner, strength comes in numbers. Who will last to see another day?
Morgan is a survivor from the start. She escapes the almost deadly attack from her husband and faces the dangers outside without hesitation. Morgan surprised me with her strength and after getting to know her mother it is obvious that she had an amazing role model. I love to read about ordinary people who show how extraordinary they are in unusual situations. I connected with Morgan straight away and I wished for her to become the leader she's destined to be.
Last Another Day is a jaw-dropping story about surviving in a zombie infested world. Baileigh Higgins skillfully makes her characters believable. They all could easily have been my next-door neighbors. I was so invested in this story that my heart was literally racing during the action-packed scenes. I don't think that there are many zombie stories out there that feel just as realistic as this one. Last Another Day is the perfect start of a series and I think it's brilliant.

I feel my 3 stars may be a bit mean, but this doesn't quite hit the levels of a lot of the books I rate as 4, so there it is.
Its actually a very enjoyable, action packed zombie apocalypse story. It's well written, there are some good character developments (albeit quite a lot of them), and it's a refreshing change to find a book like this set in South Africa, which adds some interest.
It's certainly a quick read, you can rattle through it in no time at all, and as the first in a series it sets up the next one well without leaving that feeling of being cheated at the end, like some first books leave you feeling like you've only been given the first chapter. This does, pretty much, play as a stand alone with a to be continued.... element.
If you want a light (if gruesome) read, and particularly if you enjoy The Walking Dead and similar, I can heartily recommend this. 3 and a half stars.

Audio book. Well, this book was just okay. I am surprised I didn't like it more considering all the 4 and 5 star ratings. I am a huge zombie fan but I have not read a lot of zombie books. There was just something lacking for me with this book and I can't pinpoint what it is. I honestly didn't pay that much attention to about the first 50 percent of the book.
That being said, I will be listening to book 1.5 in this series (Survive Another Day) since it is in the Audible catalog and it's only a couple of hours. I am will to try more by this author and this series.

Spoiler... eh
This book lacked something. I never connected to any characters . It's a huge risk to kill off the most likable hero of the story. I may have given the series one more chance had she not shot herself in the foot. It may have saved me from a dreary read tho...
And it clearly makes no sense why Morgan would allow her self to be repeatedly stabbed when she is stronger faster bigger and in better shape. Just standing there and allowing a few more stabs sounds normal...Not a good book. I know it's not a good book when I don't want to finish it right away and view finishing it as a chore.

Wow! This book took me totally by surprise. I've never invested so much into a zombie book before, and for the author to go do what she did at the end! Agggghhhhhh. The characters are well developed, the descriptions are vivid and the overall plot is intriguing.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one and highly recommend it. I can't wait to read the next one but also cautious.... what if the author does it again, I can't handle it !!!!!

Great zombie apocalypse story
Great zombie apocalypse story. Great cast of characters very intriguing interwoven story several groups of people that eventually find their Waze together. As always any zombie apocalypse not everyone’s intentions are good. There are things more evil than zombies. It will virgin story and well worth the read. Time to check out the next book in the series

I know many will not give good reviews because of the end. But the end is what makes this book and its content so much more believable. Its realistic. Its not a fantasy which is perfect. It makes me more curious and waiting for the second book. (there is a second book #2 but its a prequel).

Last Another Day by Baileigh Higgins is the first book in a series called Dangerous Days. Baileigh holds out a mirror to the society when things have gone completely out of hand and the entire world is falling into chaos.
Morgan is trapped in her bathroom by her husband, now turned into a zombie. He is trying to kill her too. She doesn’t know what to do and runs out of her house only to find her entire neighbourhood turned into a bloodbath. She escapes to her mother’s place to learn that her father has also joined the undead. Her brother Max, a deserter of the army, meets Logan on his way to find them and is one of the few survivors not ‘infected’ by the zombie virus. On another hand, ex-military Captain Breytenbach is trying to save as many people as he can from meeting a terrible end. How will they survive and how will the trauma of losing their loved ones change them and scar them forever? Can they ever feel normal again? Can they keep themselves sane and play with death every day?
The setting in which the story takes place is unique. All the places were new to me, and it was a fun geographical lesson learning different locations of South Africa. What I liked about this book were the characters. There is very little progress in the story as it is just about survival and fighting with zombies. These characters are what keep the story going. Their relationships and empathy. Their care for other survivors and a sense of humanity and camaraderie. It keeps the book afloat. What this book does best is to exactly reflect the feelings and actions of the society when such a disaster has occurred. The mindset of the survivors is on point and their inner struggles and trauma, though hurried through, are properly described. It is compulsively readable at times but also becomes deceptively boring at others. I also liked how women have much to do, and it is not just all men who do the fighting.
What I did not like about the book was the length. It could have been 50 to 75 pages less which is no more than mere fights and boring action sequences with zombies. It did not add any layers to the story and did not even push it forward. The book later introduced a silly villain whose storyline was undercooked and poorly written just for the sake of killing some characters.
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars for its gripping storyline in a unique location with genuine characters who carried the stories well on their shoulders. It came out shorthanded with a few grammatical errors which can be overlooked for the editing is pitch-perfect otherwise. This book will resonate more with readers aged 15 and above. There are many violent scenes with too much gore and a few scenes which contain mild erotic content as well.

The story picks up from the prequel “Survive Another Day”. Morgan, from the prequel, shows up at her mother’s house in time to watch her mother Julieann shoot her father John in the head. They pack up the young daughter Megan and head to John’s parent’s house to check on them. The infected seem to be everywhere. A random encounter brings Logan, a retiree, and Max, an AWOL soldier, together to wade through the infected. Max happens to be Morgan’s brother; what a coincidence! Brian, Morgan’s undead husband is still roaming around his house, capable and willing to attack Max when he arrives to check on his sister. At least we’re keeping it “All in the Family”. Ha! Brackenbach is a former Special Forces officer who started a security company. He’s been hired to find a missing billionaire’s son. We’ll follow Julieann’s family, Logan and Max, and Brackenbach’s unit as they confront the infected while looking for safety and other survivors. The interactions of the survivors, the intensity, and the terror depicted are a stunning improvement over the prequel. Tremblay’s ability to convey the screams and horror of the victims made my heart ache, raising my rating to five stars.

Listened to this on Audible and WOW! It was so good! I'm on an apocalyptic kick right now and this did not disappoint.
If you liked the Walking Dead then stop reading this review and go start the book. Now. It is similar to the Walking Dead in many ways. Meeting the characters and seeing them go from strangers to a family community was very well done.
It is a typical zombie outbreak that nobody knows how or where it originated and our characters are thrust into chaos from page 1 and the action just keeps going. The gore is well described and no one and nothing is safe including children and animals (Trigger warning) There is also a lot of cursing, which to me is fine (especially in a zombie apocalypse!) But be warned if the F word bothers you, don't read this.
The characters were well described and easy to differentiate from each other even though there were quite a few. The gore and ahem.. love scene was graphically described. It had one big twist I never saw coming yet some stuff was predictable that could have been hidden from the reader for a bigger reveal later.
Overall I loved it! In the end, I was satisfied (and shocked) and I can't wait to dig in to Book 2.

I have read several books by this author and enjoyed them. This one is not making up to the high standard that was delivered in e.g. Black Tide series but still a good read.
The chapters are written from different POVs, each chapter named as the person narrating. The narrative is in third person with the occacional thoughts in italics which my e-reader unfortunately didn't display leading to a „messy“ narrative.
I also don't like it when authors name their characters too similar. In this book, there are sisters called Meghan and Morgan, mother and mother-in-law Julianne and Joanna and there was at least one occasion where I had to read twice because I mixed them up.
What I do like in this book is that the characters think a lot about the loved ones that have turned and that they had to kill or leave them behind. There is also a strong sense of family bonds.
And although I love a happy ending, what Baileigh Higgins wrote was probably a more realistic scenario in a post-apocalyptic setting.
I'm looking forward to the next book, but please, we want some good characters to survive!

I thought it was a pretty good Zombie story
I love all things Zombie, and I have listened to quite a few. This za tale didn't have really any new angles, but thats ok, I like the standard zombie post apocalyptic tale of wide spread virus sweeping the planet, and the dead rising to eat our brains!! This story wasn't the greatest, and it definitely wasn't the worst. It runs about middle of the pack. I love a good survivor story, with a good vs evil theme, but only if good wins. So far this first in the series set a good tone for that.
This story is set in South Africa, and I'll be the first to admit, I'm not very familiar with SA accent, so in my uniformed view, I thought Greg Trembley did a fantastic job with narration. Every character had a distinct voice that was recognizable. I loved several of the main mc's and was rooting for all to survive. I was disappointed that one of the standout characters was killed after investing in their journey and survival.
I liked it, thought the narrator was great and I will be listening to the rest of this series.

This book was amazing! Liked How everyone was all over the place and didn't know want to do or what was going on or even fight. It was a mixed people hiding and running and the one's who can like Hunter's, military even some house wife's did and didn't. Most Author's now it's zombies and everyone knows how to fight and use weapons right off the bat.... It drive's me up the wall!! Kinda hated gap in between the week's. I love all details from day to day.
I bet you got some Hater's what happened at the end with Morgan and few other's from the main group. I have to say I Love it!!! I actually hate main characters in a group during zombie or end of the world apocalyptic with no zombies. Why do they get to live or be so special. Like on the walking dead go ahead kill rick or Maggie I don't care and I'll still watch it being in new fresh faces mixed with the old one's.

This novel of Zombie Apocalypse in South Africa was one of the best I've read. Interesting characters, intriguing plot, it was heard to put down. It held my imagination and interest and I could feel the fear and distrust of not knowing who was real--who was dead--who was undead--
When Brian attacked his girlfriend Morgan in the shower, she knew he had been infected, and kills him. Fleeing to her parents, she feels safer until her father is killed by the infected....and she must leave, she's not sure who to trust. During the apocalypse, end of the world, Morgan finds out she is pregnant and it's even more so, now a fight for humanity, not just a battle of power and weapons.
Baileigh Higgins has given us a well written and exciting zombie novel. It is thrilling and intense and I'm looking forward to the next book in the 'Dangerous Days' series.

Took some time to adjust, but...
It was worth sticking with it. It took a little bit to get used to the different style of writing and vocabulary used. The first chapter was necessary, but the way it was written made it hard to stick with. Lots of little annoyances. Extreme emotions talked about that we hadn’t had time to watch the character build. Rushed through action, and shortcuts to realizations. It also annoys me to see someone’s thoughts expressed as actual dialogue instead of incorporated into the narrative... but I stuck it out and the characters finally started developing and gaining personality and depth. Once I started getting invested in the people, the storylines also started evening out to being well paced and exciting. Some unexpected surprises, and definitely an unexpected ending... er... cliffhanger. Worth the read, and also nice to have an entirely foreign to me landscape.

I enjoyed this book as it wasn't just another novel about the end of the world with zombies. It was much more about the characters and their journey through the apocalypse with some pretty satisfying zombie activity thrown in for the fans (I am definitely a fan!). You could truly identify with the survivors and empathize with their individual stories.
I found this book to be fairly fast-moving and a pretty easy read. In true serial form, you just start getting invested in the characters and the storyline and the first novel ends. It pretty much means that you have to stick around for the next installment, if you want to wrap up the story and get some kind of satisfaction regarding where your favorite characters have ended up. All in all, it was pretty entertaining and I feel that it is worth investing in the 2nd book.

I only gave this 3 stars because it is REMARKABLY similar to dawn of the dead.
In this book several groups of people try to out run the zombie apocalypse. Many losing friends and love ones on the way. Morgan and her mother Julianne are the first ones that we meet, both of thier husbands are the first ones to die. Followed by Logan and Max a hunter and a solider, eventually they all meet up almost by chance and the famlies are reunited. Allowing others to join them as well, they manage to make it to a strong hold of sorts where they try to start some life. The disease is still running rampant but they are safe for the time being. Now instead they have to worry about the threat inside the camp from jealous women! Really :-/ how freaking ridiculous.
I really only liked it because I like zombie action. If that is your thing than I would recommend.

Good Story
I enjoyed this book. I didn't think I would from the beginning because it took awhile for me to get into it. Some of the wording got me and I had to look them up. It was annoying at first because it was distracting me from reading. Words like "Nyala" which is an army vehicle and who knew an "aslation" was a German Sheppard? That aside, I got into the characters and was impressed how quick they assessed their situations and got into survivor mode. There were a lot of losses but expected in an apocalypse. Another thing I liked about the story was how blessed Julian was to keep running into her family. Then there's always that one bad apple in an apocalypse bringing the drama. Overall, the story is good and fans of this genre will like It. I didn't bother reading the preview to book 2 at the end because I already downloaded it am and ready to read.

I have the omnibus edition of this series and book one is a great start to this disturbing story.
It's set in South Africa, and some of the descriptions give a good glimpse of the setting. There are numerous characters and I liked to see the story from different points of view. It's still not known how the outbreak of the infection started but it soon consumes the world, leaving only a few humans to survive as best as they can.
Some of the scenes are graphic but that's understandable because it is a zombie novel and there's bound to be gore.
I liked the fast-paced writing style and how the characters fit into the plot. There were some surprises and 'oh no, really' - unexpected twists for sure.
Overall, this was an enjoyable (if this genre can be said to be) start to a gruesome and yet insightful series.

The writing is good, with basically interesting characters (although they could have used more depth still). There’s a sense of family that permeates this narrative; it’s a nice difference. Rather than have a focus on weaponry or battles (although those are present), the focus is on community, staying alive, and being human.
Most of the book is smack dab in the middle in terms of quality. All things considered though, if you’re like me and have a weird obsession with zombie novels, this might not be a bad one to try out. Consider my rating a 3.5.

Don't mess with this family
Last Another Day shows that no matter what you may have done before the apocalypse you can still find a way to make it in the aftermath and help others. Families find each other again and new families form even after beat loss. Max, Morgan, Meghan, and Julianne are the lead family in this zombie tale. They fight to survive and help others to survive. It is hard but they dig deep and try to start the world over again. The losses are hard but make sense in the new zombie world. I am voluntarily writing this review after receiving a free copy of the book.

Meh......I was looking for a new zombie series, and this one kind of fell flat. I tried to get into it, and though it wasn't horrible, it just didn't hold my attention like I had hoped. I couldn't stand Angies' character. I mean you're in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, how are still acting like a spoiled brat? I liked Max/Morgan and the rest of the family, but the other characters I just couldn't get in to. And the whole scene at the end When Logan confronts Angie about Morgan and the baby? Seriously??? That scene went on far too long and was unrealistic. I don't know. For me it felt like the story was all over the place, and never fully developed one story before moving on to the next

Good Zombie Story
The plot was good. The story was interesting. I liked how the story was told and each chapter dealt with a different character. Ms. Higgins did a great job tying up storylines and making sure that we knew what became of the characters. I would have given it 5 stars but at the end one of my favorite characters died 😭 right after finding out something that I already suspected. Not going to say which one because I hate spoilers. That means they won't be in the next book but their significant other, another favorite character, will. I'm looking forward to that.
