Meet Tyler Kane. A unique man with a unique title who takes on unique clients.

Kane lives in a fast growing suburb of Nashville Tennessee. He was a highly successful corporate lawyer for many years, but after he lost his wife to an untimely death, he retired and dove into the arena of criminal law. He became a defense lawyer, but he didn’t refer to himself as such. He is a serious-minded man of principle and ethics; nevertheless, he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get the charges against his clients dismissed.

With the help of his assistant along with his childhood friend, Kane takes on a client who is a normal looking young man with a story to tell that isn’t so normal; a story that ultimately results in his arrest for the murder of the wife of a local investor. With seemingly insurmountable evidence, the Assistant DA wraps the noose so tightly around the client’s neck that even Kane’s assistants begin to question his innocence.

But Tyler Kane is always devoted to his client. The clock is ticking. Kane and his team must move fast. Will they move fast enough? Will they survive the colorful characters and deadly situations they find themselves in? Will Kane be able to unravel all of the insurmountable evidence against his client before it is too late? Will he be able to best the crafty Assistant DA in the courtroom?

I am baffled by the number of positive reviews. Giving this two stars because the mystery turned out to be pretty satisfying. However, the prose is lamentable, the characters are wheeled out from central casting, and the dialogue is risible (LITERALLY NO ONE IN THE WORLD talks like that). Also: plural possessive is formed by ess- apostrophe!

In fact, I more than half suspected that “Michael Pickford” was a pseudonym for Dan Brown. Erle Stanley Gardner this ain’t.

Personal Solicitor is written in a cut and dry style like some of the older detective novels I have read. There is a lot of explanation until you get halfway through the novel and all the evidence is pointing toward Jeremy's guilt. How Tyler Kane unravels the evidence is very engaging. During the last half of the plot, I didn't want to put this book down. This is an enjoyable read that kept me guessing until the end!

When an alarm goes unexpectedly off in a house that Jeremy Scott is taking care of, his curiosity is well and truly piqued. What he didn't expect was to find himself accused of murder several hours later.

The only man who can keep Jeremy from spending the better part of his life in prison is Tyler Kane.

Kane has made quite the name for himself as a defence lawyer, but with the evidence stacking up against Jeremy, Kane fears for his client. But, this isn't a clean cut murder, and Kane is determined to get to the bottom of it.

Michael Pickford has a unique voice, and I have never read a book in this style before. However, the writing style really worked for this book. Kudos, Mr Pickford, for your bravery in writing something fresh and new.

Personal Solicitor (Tyler Kane Series Book 1) has everything that a good crime/mystery book should have. Plenty of action, a who done it mentality and characters that were well fleshed and believable. This book will have you second guessing right until the final chapter.

I look forward to reading more books in this series.

I Highly Recommend.

My father grew up reading solicitors-are-the-hero novels and became a distinguished lawyer and judge. I can remember him telling me about his favourites when I was a little girl. He would have loved this book!

Tyler Kane is my new favourite fictional solicitor sleuth. Pickford nailed the lawyer persona in this who-done-it murder mystery. Even better, the storyline kept me guessing right till the end. The courtroom ending added the perfect finishing touch!

A great mystery, with an original puzzle to solve. Very much in the style of those old TV detective mysteries. An interesting concept to have the solicitor crack the case and solve the who and the how of the crime.
The story is a bit slow in parts, heavy on the descriptions and directions to different places but the characters more than made up for that.
I'd definitely read the next in the series.

If you enjoy reading private detective/crime stories, you will love this book. And if you are from the Perry Mason era, even better! I'm hoping the characters will continue to evolve in the series to show more of their personalities, because this book showed the side of the crime solving aspect of the mystery. But good puzzle and climax to the solution was well executed.

This well crafted legal thriller hooks you early on and takes you for a wild ride that keeps you on the edge of you seat with intriguing twists, surprising turns, and colorful characters at every curve along the way. With a well developed plot, authentic characters, and an impressive and satisfying ending, what more could you want in a book? Would definitely recommend!

This appears to be the start of a great series of mystery/detective novels as Michael Pickford takes the reader on an adventure in which every detail might be an important event in the plot development. This novel is filled with suspense as the mystery unravels little by little, with the ultimate truth being saved for the end. The characters are dynamic and believable, and easy to become attached to.

A few minor issues with sentence structure. The most obvious is the author often switches the action between past and present tense with verb use and should keep everything in past tense, but this does not take away from the wonderful quality of this story! I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys this genre!

it’s intriguing to see how Michael Pickford blends legal strategy with suspense, making Tyler Kane both a compelling character and a thoughtful representation of the ethical challenges lawyers often face in practice. The way the plot unfolds, especially with the evidence stacking against Kane’s client, kept me engaged right through to the end and reminded me how much legal outcomes rely on careful preparation and advocacy. It also made me think about the real-world legal support available for people navigating complex issues — for example, sites like https://www.solicitor.pk/
highlight the range of services professionals can provide, from case analysis to drafting legal documents and court representation, which are crucial outside of fiction.

An Awesome Series

I started with book two in the series and enjoyed it so much I had to get book one. Each one can be read as a stand-alone. I truly enjoyed spending time with the characters. Mr. Kane is such a likeable character. He is one class act. His feathers never get ruffled. He takes his time working through the case. Leann is another likeable character. She wants to be Kane's assistant. And then there is Earl. He helps Kane get answers. I love the storytelling skill of this author. The reader is allowed to work through the murder with Tyler Kane, PS. I love it! I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Definitely a 5 Star read.

Good old-fashioned crime mystery that will leave you guessing till the very end. Tyler Kane is a stickler for his routines and I like his enthusiastic fan turned new assistant Leann who adds some comedy effects to this story. Expect lots of dialogues in this book. All in all a well written plot that's enjoyable to read.

A "Perry Mason" type whodunit, "Personal Solicitor" is an excellent story, a well-thought-out page-turner with lots of twists to keep the reader guessing until the end. However, editing errors made for a difficult read in parts, and influenced my four-star rating for a five-star book.

3.75. I was surprised how well I enjoyed the virtual voice audiobook. I think it's because the narrative is straightforward, not literary, which works well for a legal thriller. The pacing and story itself was engaging. There wasn't a red herring or many twists and turns, just a satisfying ending.

Personal Solicitor

Tyler Kane series book 1 was interesting but not a compelling story. Interesting characters and crime but the story lacked zip.
