Hadley Life isn’t fair. Hadley James learned early on in life the easy path was not in her future, and the past six months have been a testament to that. Losing her sister and getting guardianship of her nephew have knocked her world off its axis with no one there to help. She takes the only job she can find to pay the bills, but it doesn’t exactly make her feel like the motherly type. Slinging cocktails ‘til two o’clock in the morning, then waking up four hours later to get her nephew out the door, leaves little time for anything but work and sleep. Struggling to find a way to make ends meet, all Hadley wishes for is a normal life for her nephew, and a full night’s sleep for herself. Is that really too much for a girl to ask for? Tate Life is damn good. Tate Holten co-owns a successful karate studio, has a gorgeous house, a brand new car, and the freedom to do whatever he wants, whenever he wants. Life couldn’t have dealt him a better hand. Although, spending most of his time at Powerhouse leaves Tate with little social life, and lately, he’s been looking for something different. Something or someone to share his life with seems to be the only thing he can’t have. Constantly searching for that one special thing leads Tate to Hadley, and he instantly knows she’s what he has been looking for. Tate just wants to save Hadley and give her everything she needs, but Hadley isn’t looking for a handout from anyone. Tate is faced with his biggest challenge yet of convincing Hadley he isn’t just some guy looking to land in her bed for one night. But will Hadley give him the chance, or will Tate have to take love to the mat to prove to Hadley he’s just what she needs?
Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Winter Travers is a devoted wife, mother, and aunt turned author who was born and raised in Wisconsin. After a brief stint in South Carolina following her heart to chase the man who is now her hubby, they retreated back up North to the changing seasons, and to the place they now call home. Winter spends her days writing happily ever afters, and her nights being a karate mom hauling her son to practices and tournaments. She also has an addiction to anything MC related, puppies, and baking.
Love on the Mat by Winter Travers a loveable five-star read. This is the second book in the Powerhouse M.A. Series, and what a series, the author tells us that this series was born from her mind going crazy with ideas after her son started taking Karate lessons, so I for one am thanking his Karate instructor (I secretly hope he’s a hottie ninja we get photos of one day, doubtful I know, but I live in hope). Hadley James has always fought for what she wanted, life has never been handed to her on a plate, but right now life just seems to be getting so hard its almost overwhelming. The last six months have shaken her to the core, and left her wondering if the world will ever get righted. Six months ago, her sister died, and left her as the legal guardian of her 16-year-old boy Ryker, she was always his ‘Aunt Maddie’ now she was his parental role-model/aunt Maddie all rolled into one. Her job no longer paid enough to sustain them both, so suddenly she had to take a waitressing job at a strip club, not dancing just waiting tables, even though the dancer make a ton more money. Barely making ends meet and barely sleeping isn’t a life for anyone, but Maddie is determined to make the most of what they have. She dreams of a day of sleep, and a normal life, but doesn’t want a hand out or charity, so what will she do when something breaks, and she has no-where to turn to fix it? Tate Holten has a good life, he co-owns a successful Karate studio with his friends, big house and a brand-new car. Tate really should be as happy as a pig in a sty, but something is missing and he may find it in the most unexpected place. The only problem is life never goes smoothly when you want it to, and if he isn’t careful Tate may lose what he is trying to get his hands on, by doing what he thinks is the right thing. Winter Travers writes compelling characters who pop off the page, I have loved this series so much, I plan on buying the Devils Knight, and the Skid row series, as they both seem amazing and I have enjoyed the writing so much.
I was lucky to get an ARC for the first book in this series otherwise I wouldn't have discovered this author and this amazing fun series she has created. After Kellan it's now Tate's turn. He owns the martial arts centre along with three of his friends and he loves what he does, though he's missing someone to share his life with. Hadley has always had to work for everything in life. Six months ago she lost her sister and became the guardian for her sixteen-year old nephew Ryker. She is still try the whole adulting thing and it's not so see with her job as a waitress in a strip club. I love Hadley and Ryker's dynamic. Ryker is a fun and mature teenager who loves Karate. Yes, he trains with Tate. Though Tate sees her before this common connection and it's insta-love? Insta-lust? Inspite of Hadley's reservation and busy life, Tate makes it clear he's here to stay. They have awesome chemistry and I loved both of them so much!!! Tate's crew soon gets Hadley in their fold and she has a support system. It was basically a very well written, sweet and memorable story. Highly recommend the whole series!! I know the next one's gonna be great as well. Can't wait! *~*~*ARC generously provided by the author in exchange of an honest review *~*~*
I just love Winter, she is so amazing at what she does. You can never go wrong with any of her books. This book has all the feels. Laughing, crying and wanting a piece of Tate. With that said, I LOVED Hadley and Tate! She hasn't had the best past. She lost her parents in a accident and then her sister passed away from cancer. Hadley now has custody of teenage her nephew, Ryker. She has no self confidence in herself when it came to Ryker and worried she would fail him. She will do what ever it takes to keep Ryker from hurting again. Tate is HOT. I love him. Tate tags along when his friend, Roman to the strip club. When he sees the waitress, he instantly knows there is something special about her and has to know more about her. After finally meeting, their chemistry is off the charts! Ryker knows Tate from Powerhouse and he finds out they are seeing each other. What will Ryker say when he walks in on Hadley and Tate? Will Hadley realize that what she did was wrong? Will she finally give in to what she wants? READ THIS BOOK!!
Winter Travers gained a new fan in me with the first book in the Powerhouse M.A. series. Well now she is back with book two and man what an amazing book she delivered. Packed with heart, heat, and undeniable chemistry... Travers takes readers on an unforgettable swoony journey.
Sexy. Sweet. Fun. Captivating. Love on the Mat was so so good with an engaging storyline, great banter, and just enough angst to keep me hanging on to every word.... Travers continues to impress me with this series.
Hadley and Tate were a breath of fresh air in this fun romance (and bonus our crew's back!). From the moment they landed on my kindle, I knew they were just going to be special and Ryker was just a bonus. I rooted hard for these two... hoping and knowing Hadley would concede and give our sweet Tate a chance.
If you like sports romance that had that unique flair to stand away from the rest then the Powerhouse M.A. series is a definite must read.
I really enjoyed Tate and Hadley's story, and I could connect with it a lot more than I had with Kellan and Molly's. Plus, the Devil's Knights and their women made a cameo, so that automatically gave the story extra points 😂
Tate is one of the owners at Powerhouse, the karate studio in the town where Hadley lives. Hadley is a struggling waitress at a strip club, and is also guardian to her 16-year-old nephew, Ryker. They meet by chance before realizing that Ryker actually goes to Powerhouse and is being mentored by the guys there. There is some drama happening because of that, as Hadley doesn't think it's a good idea to tell Ryker that she is seeing Tate, and when Ryker finds out, he is upset for being lied to.
All in all, I really enjoyed the story, but it did leave me with some questions. Like, why did Tate suffer from insomnia? And did it ever get cured? When did Hadley finally get to see his big house? Did she like it? And where was Ryker's father?
Love on the Mat by Winter Travers is the second book in the Powerhouse Series. Love on the Mat can easily be read as stand alone, I recommend to read the books in order. Book one in this series is Dropkick my Heart - Molly and Kellan´s story.
Meet Hadley James, she´s in her middle thirties, inherited shortly guardianship of her nephew, and lost her sister. Tate is one of the owners of Powerhouse, a MMA studio. He meets Hadley and is smitten. Everything could be sunshine and roses, but no. Hadley has issues, she doesn´t want her nephew know she dates Tate.
I really loved book one, and I also love book two, Love on the Mat. This book has everything I love in it. Hot guys, drama, love and great characters. I love the writing, I love the words and I love the story. I give 5 Stars and thank you Winter Travers!
This book had me hooked from the start and I couldn't put it down. This is the second book in the Powerhouse MA series. This is Tate and Hadley's story and this one gets interesting when Tate realises that Hadley is actually The Aunt of their student Ryker. Hadley is a strong woman who is the guardian for her 16 year old nephew and is making ends meet by waitressing at a strip club. Hadley doesn't like to ask for help and she hates feeling like people are offering them handouts. Their story is one full of instant attraction, drama, heartache and some funny moments with Molly and Sage. I guarantee you will not regret reading their story and investing in this series. Tate is a real sweetheart with a heart of gold. Another five star read by the talented Winter Travers.
I wish I had are more spectacular way to express my love for this series and even more love for this installment--- the second book in the Powerhouse series, Love on the mat was even better than its predecessor with historical antics, fun twists and a heroine with enough sass to put the most alpha male in his place.... within reason of course. I mean there is a reason that we call them alpha males to begin with. An aunt with the sudden task as a single guardian to a sixteen-year-old boy, and one of the toughest karate instructors and owners of Powerhouse Karate Studio couldn't be more of an awkward love to happen, can they work through their differences and make it out ontop? or will their different worlds collide and leave no one to surface?
Review – Love on the Mat is the 2nd book in the Powerhouse MMA series. I recommend reading the 1st book for more background for the series. Tate is one of the partners in Powerhouse and an ex winning martial artist who teaches at Powerhouse- when he sees Hadley hes attracted to her. She may be the One . Hadley is in a rough spot -struggling with bills , guardian ship of her nephew and working as a waitress at a strip club to make money. But both of there lives collide when trouble comes calling but can these two make a relationship work and the course of true love be found on the Mats. Lisa https://lisabookblogblog.wordpress.co...
Tate and Hadley, or Haddy as Ryker calls her, are a great pairing. The way they battle on me another and themselves while they come together is the perfect match of drama and lust with some angst thrown in the mix. I was excited to see where this series would lead us and it does not disappoint. And let me just tell you the dynamic of Hadley and Ryker's relationship is just another aspect to love about this book. For those who loved Winter's MC series you get a peek at the Devil's Knights and their women. They still make you chuckle at their antics even in their small cameo.
**I received an arc for an honest review** How difficult could it be to raise a teenager and work nights? Pfft, easy to do for any single lady right? No way! Hadley, young and single woman is finding her balance in life after her nephew comes to live with her. She meets new karate hottie, Tate, by chance one night, and love blooms. Tate is man who knows what he wants, but we all need a little butt kicking sometimes. Who better than your friends right? This book is a real sweet and an easily enjoyable read.
Love on the Mat is the second title in the Powerhouse MA series, and features an endearing set of characters, Hadley a sassy, strong heroine and Tate a sweet, sexy, alpha male and thrown into the mix is Hadley's nephew Ryker.
Hadley's life is thrown into a tail spin, when she unexpectedly gains guardianship of her sixteen year old nephew, and she's floundering both financially and emotionally without support.
Tate and Hadley's story is full of emotion, drama, angst and above all humor. I found their connection to be both believe-able and intense. I was completely engaged by their fun, flirty and humorous banter. I found Love on the Mat, to be thoroughly enjoyable and in my mind, I actually enjoyed it more than the first book in the series Dropkick my Heart.
I adored the relationship between Ryker and Hadley, and his martial arts masters, and hope we continue to see more of his character in the future books. I would recommend this title to anyone who enjoys a sports romance or contemporary romance. I will be eagerly anticipating the next title in this series.
Love on the Mat (Powerhouse M.A.) by Winter Travis is a sports romance book. This is the second book in the Powerhouse series and can be read as a stand alone. You will enjoy seeing characters from the first book in this book also. I enjoy when the author puts characters from previous books in the current book, we get to see what happens to them after the fact. This story is full of emotions, drama, laughter, and compassion. You will enjoy the roller coaster that these characters will take you on. They will keep you engaged until the end. I enjoy when an author can create a story that pulls you in from the first word and that is exactly what this author has done. This story will show you that even through life can throw struggles at you, it is the way you handle them that makes the difference especially when it comes to those that you love. Find out what happens to these characters as they start a journey of the unexpected and maybe find some romance during the process.
Hadley James is a woman who has learned early in life that easy is not going to be part of her future. When she loses her sister and takes guardianship of her nephew, her world is turned upside down with no help of turning it right. She does what she needs to including taking a job that certainly doesn't make her feel like a mother. Between working and taking care of her nephew, she has little time for sleep let alone anything else. Her goal is to provide a normal life for her nephew and to get a full night sleep, is that to much to ask for?
Tate Holten is a man who seems to have it all. He co-owns a successful karate studio, nice house, car and freedom to do whatever and whenever he wants. With spending all his time at the karate studio, it has left little time for anything else. What happens when he starts wanting something else? He seems to want the one thing that he can't seem to have. When he starts searching, he sees something that he knows he must have instantly. Will he be able to figure out how to get what he wants?
Hadley and Tate's relationship has been one that starts out a little different. He just wants to save her, give her everything and she doesn't want handouts from someone who watches her. She thinks he is a little creepy but will he be able to convince her otherwise? Will she give him the chance or will he have to take her to the mat to show her that he is just what she needs? These are two really great characters. The author has created a couple of characters that you will be able to relate too and their development is just as great. Hadley really just needs to have some confidence that she can be the mother that she needs to be. It was great to see her grow throughout the story. Tate is self confident and knows what he wants and how to get it. He is just missing something or someone from his life, he just needs to convince her of that now. These two together make the story flow until the end. The secondary characters are just as funny and free flowing as the two main characters. They add something to the story and I can't wait to see what happens with them next. Find out if Hadley and Tate ever find their HEA or will fate have something different in mind.
This is my second story by Winter Travers and I think it is my favorite of this series yet. I can't wait to see what she will have for us next. Winter was born and raised in Wisconsin then moved to North Carolina where she met her husband. Now they live farther north to the changing seasons. She is a devoted wife and aunt who turned author. She spends her days writing her happily ever afters and her nights zipping around with her forklift at work. I really enjoy her writing style and her ability to keep me engaged until the end. This story is fast paced and will leave you wanting more. You will find that you will not be able to put this book down once you start it. You will lose track of time as you turn each page until the end. I highly recommend this story as I know you will enjoy reading about these two characters as much as I have.
Love on the Mat is book 2 of the Powerhouse M.A. series by Winter Travers and can be read as a standalone.
Tate owns Powerhouse Martial Arts with his four friends and appears to have everything a guy could possibly want but he feels like something is missing; someone to share it all with. He lives in a house big enough for a family but lives alone and is ‘missing the key piece’ to complete his ‘puzzle’. On a night out at a strip club called Sultry Knights, he sees Hadley but doesn’t approach her even though there’s something about her that keeps pulling his gaze back and makes him wonder if she could be ‘the one woman who would make everything feel right in my world’. However, all that changes when he sees her again at the club and offers to help her. Will this stubborn determined woman accept his help and is she the missing piece that will complete his puzzle?
“You can't beat yourself up for this. You're not always going to make the right decision. That's all part of being a parent. You're constantly trying to do the right thing, but every now and then, you're not going to because, at the end of the day, you're human.” - Tate
Hadley’s life changed six months ago when she became a ‘parental person’ to her sixteen year old nephew, Ryker, following the death of her sister. Her priorities have changed and she’s taken the only job she could find that pays well enough to cover all the bills. Hadley works hard every night and after little sleep, gets up to ensure Ryker makes it to school. The bills are covered but Hadley has little left for anything else, and also feels like she doesn't have enough time for Ryker. Then Hadley meets Tate at the club when she’s working one evening and her life is about to get a whole lot more complicated.
“There were times I didn't know if I was cut out to be someone's guardian. Especially when I wanted to smack Ryker upside the head every time he rolled his eyes at me.” - Hadley
After reading Dropkick My Heart, book 1 of this series, and awarding it 5 stars, I couldn’t wait to read Love on the Mat and wasn’t left disappointed. So far, Tate is my favourite of the four guys and I love how he was determined to be the man that Hadley deserved. I really felt for Tate as he was clearly determined to find love and struggled because he didn't have someone to share his life with. I personally feel he was on his way to suffering with depression but meeting Hadley pulled him out of the darkness and made him have hope for the future again. Whilst we don't learn much about his past, I can't help but feel there's a story there as to why he struggles about not having someone special in his life.
Hadley didn't make it easy for Tate and I'm glad that she remained independent even though she could also be stubborn at times. As a single parent myself, I could relate to Hadley’s need to ensure Ryker came first and that any decisions she made wouldn't impact on him. Hadley may not be Ryker’s mother but she loved him like she was and put herself second whenever it came to ensuring Ryker was happy and well looked after. However, Hadley experienced the guilt that many mothers do and felt like she was failing him. This is something I can definitely relate with. After having dealt with so much and then taking on the responsibility of raising her nephew, it could've tipped Hadley over the edge but she carried on no matter how hard it got and was so selfless. Hadley is someone to be admired.
I'm so glad that Winter Travers included characters from the first book; Molly and Sage are still the perfect comedy duo and had me in stitches in chapter 30. I hope they will appear in the rest of the series as I can't wait to see what they get up to next. The most powerful part of the story for me was chapter 24 when Winter Travers proves that you only need eight words to show exactly how devastated someone is!
I can't wait to see what Winter Travers has planned for the other two guys and how she'll develop the storyline you can see building within each book about someone from the four guys past. I will certainly be reading the rest of the series as I have fallen in love with all the characters and want to see their HEA’s. I would definitely recommend this book, in fact the series, to anyone.
I've been on a few of this author's Release Tours and such, but I'd yet to read any of her books! I then really wanted to read one, and I decided to start with this one! I know it's the second book in the Powerhouse M.A. series, but it can be read as a standalone! I'm really happy that I've finally read one of this author's books! I loved this book! The plot was developed at the perfect pace and it did keep me interested and wanting to read on! There also wasn't any action and suspense in the plot, and normally I love a plot to have at least some action and suspense in it, but the secrecy and the character development was definitely enough to keep me hooked! There were also plenty of hot scenes too! I wasn't expecting them to be so hot, but they were! I also liked that the main characters didn't start a relationship right away and that they spent quite a lot of this book apart! I also really liked the ending to this book! It was left open, so I'm hoping that the characters will make some appearances in the next book! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Hadley was the main female character, and I did feel sorry for her in this book! She worked at a place that she didn't want to work at, but she did it to provide for her nephew that she now had to care for! This made me respect Hadley! She had also lost everyone apart from her nephew, so it was easy to see why she cared so much about him! Hadley was also very independent and she didn't want to ask for help if she was struggling or be a burden to anyone! Hadley learned a lot in this book though and she realised that she did have friends surrounding her and that she could rely on someone else for help! Tate was the main male character and love interest of Hadley! I loved Tate a lot in this book! He was a guy that had worked hard and accomplished a lot with his friends! Tate was also pretty damn hot and I loved the way he was with Hadley! It was easy to see that he really loved her and he was protective of her too! Tate was also determined to be with Hadley, but there were a few difficulties before they could be a couple! Tate tried to not let them deter him though and he tried to spend as much time with Hadley as he could! Tate was also easy for me to connect with and I loved that he let Hadley have her independence, but helped her at the same time! I loved that this book was written from both Hadley and Tate's point of views! I was expecting it to be because of the way the synopsis is written, so I'm really happy that it was! It helped me connect more with both characters, especially since it took them a bit of this book to actually meet, and it also allowed for more things to happen in the plot too! I also can't wait to read more books from this author! I'm going to make the first book in this series my next read and I'm excited to read the next book in the series too when it releases! I've also grabbed copies of a few of this author's other books and I can't wait to give them a read too! The cover for this book also suits it perfectly with the karate aspect! It would definitely draw me to the book and I love everything about it from the colouring to the model! The model is a really good Tate too!
Love On The Mat (Powerhouse M.A. Book 2) by Winter Travers
5 Stars
This is my second book by this author, I loved the first one of this series and I think if it's possible I liked this one even more. Hadley Jones hasn't had the easiest life, her parents died tragically when she was just starting her senior year of high school, leaving her and her sister to figure things out on their own. Having to drop out of school and get a job was not in the plans as she was forced to get her GED, which then makes it harder to get what she considers a good job. Then her sister passed away 6 months ago leaving Hadley guardianship of her 16 year old nephew Ryker. She is trying to do all she can to be a good parental fixture in his life but feels like she fails at every turn. To make ends meet she takes a waitressing position at a local strip club which takes up her nights and wastes her days away sleeping, but she loves her nephew and is determined to make it all work on her own without asking for help or accepting handouts.
Tate Holten, part owner of Powerhouse, a martial arts school he owns with three of his best friends. Life is good for Tate, being on the circuit as long as he was has allowed him to buy a 4 bedroom house, a new Range Rover, and the good life. Only problem is he feels like he is missing something. He bought his house with plans to fill it with a family, he just hasn't found that person to share it with yet, until one night he joins his buddies at the local strip club and spots a waitress from across the club that sparks an interest in him he can't shake.
Hadley's car had already been on its last legs for a while, and having to push it into the parking lot at work one night pretty much finished the deal. When a seriously hot and sexy guy offers to look at her car for her during her break she loses all reasoning,
Tate just wanted to meet this waitress that's been on his mind since the first time he saw her, and when given the chance during one of her breaks to take a look at her car he has no idea what is going on. He can't keep his hands off her and the connection between the two is off the charts, as they get to know each other all he wants to do is help her and of course that won't work for her..no handouts will be accepted and she will only see him if they keep it all a secret, she feels her nephew has been through enough and doesn't need any more in his life right now especially since she realized Tate was one of the owners of the karate school that her nephew was helping out at. What happens when the plan falters? Can Tate convince her that he wants it all with her?
This is an awesome book, it has it all...I love Hadley, she is so much fun and her made up swear words were hilarious, this author writes in a way you can actually relate to these characters, you can feel their struggles and their happiness. I can't wait to see who gets the next book, and also to see what happens next for all of them. Loved it!!
Love on the Mat (Powerhouse M.A.) By: Winter Travers 5 out of 5 stars
The story Love on the Mat (Powerhouse M.A.) by Winter Travers is a sports romance book. This is a wonderful second book in the Powerhouse series that had me hooked from the first chapter. It took me one afternoon to read because I just couldn’t put it down. I truly enjoyed the storyline and all of the characters. This is the story of Hadley James and Tate Holten. Hadley is struggling. She is caring for both herself and her nephew. Both her job and her responsibilities are overwhelming. All she wants is for things to go smoothly and be able to get a good night’s sleep. Tate has everything he could want. A house, new car, partner in a successful karate studio, freedom, it can’t get any better. Except there still seems to be something missing, someone to share his life with. What happens when he meets Hadley is something that they both could never have imagined.
This story has amazing characters and the two main ones are Hadley and Tate. Hadley is doing her best in taking care of her nephew however she is always afraid that what she is doing is not good enough. She promised her sister that she would take care of him and is determined to keep that promise. I believe that she is doing her best and that she loves her nephew very much. The bantering back and forth between Hadley and her nephew is often comical. She is an independent person who will not depend on anyone else to help her out, even when she really needs to. She meets Tate and she can’t deny the attraction to him, however, he is not part of her plans. Tate is persistent and convinces Hadley to see him and even to let him help her with some things. Can Hadley learn to lean on Tate and give in to the feelings that she has for him?
Tate is a man who has it made. His life is awesome and has everything he wants. Until he starts to want someone to share his life with. That someone has been elusive. When he first meets Hadley he completely falls for her. He knows that she is the one he wants. Tate is a take charge type of person and doesn’t understand why Hadley is so resistant to him and his attempts to help her. He is determined not to give up. Can Tate convince Hadley she is the one he has been searching for, not just for one night, but for always? Read this book to find out if Tate and Hadley get their HEA. This book has plenty of humor and I found myself laughing out loud many times. Some of the characters in the book are ones you have met in the first and they form a group that stands up for each other and takes care of one another when need be. I love a series where the characters overlap into the next book. This story does include adult language and adult situations, including steamy love scenes. It would be for those 18 years of age or older.
*****5 Stars***** Love on the Mat by Winter Travers
Love on the Mat is Book 2 of the Powerhouse M.A. Series by Winter Travers. While it is part of a series, I read this book without ever reading the first book of the series and believe this could definitely be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone. Even without reading Book 1, I loved the story and give it 5 stars.
Love on the Mat follows Hadley James, who recently became guardian for her 16-year-old nephew Ryker, after her sister lost her battle with cancer. Hadley, affectionately referred to as the senior citizen sounding “Aunt Haddie” by Ryker, works as a waitress/bartender in a strip club trying to make ends meet and be a good mother-figure for her nephew. Hadley is set on being independent and not taking any sort of handouts. She works till 2am only to come home for a few hours sleep before getting up to hopefully get Ryker to school on time. She is struggling, living paycheck to paycheck, and completely sure she is failing her sister at being a good guardian for Ryker.
Tate Holten, co-owner of the local karate studio, that Ryker just so happens to love spending his time at, meets Hadley one night while she was working and from that night on, he was hooked. Tate is so hung up on Hadley that he works all day teaching karate classes, then stays at her job the entire time she works just so that he can spend a few minutes with her. Tate has a business, a great vehicle, and a 4-bedroom house that he has always wanted to someday have a family to share with, but until now, he hasn't been very lucky in that area.
In this story, chemistry can't be denied between Tate and Hadley. They're both stubborn, sarcastic, smart-mouths that are great together. Their physical connection is hard to keep under wraps. Hadley isn't sure how to handle things with Tate, since Ryker goes to the Karate studio all the time and she is doing her best to take good care of Ryker after all he has been through. Over time, different unexpected things happen that keep Hadley and Tate crossing eachother's paths. There are ups and downs, flirtatious playfulness, miscommunications, feelings being hurt and feeling growing into more. This was a great romance with the perfect level of steaminess between the main characters. I look forward to reading more in the series, including going back to read Book 1. This was a fun book that I picked up and read in one afternoon. I'd definitely recommend it to others!
Tate Holten appears to have everything. He is co-owner of the one of the best karate studios around, he has money, and he appears to want for nothing. What he does want for is the same thing that his friend and co-owner has, someone by his side that is there for him. But spending almost all his time at Powerhouse does really allow Tate to meet someone that could fulfill that role. He also never expected to find that one person who piqued his interest to also be working at a strip club, but that is exactly what Hadley did. She intrigues him and confused him in equal measures, but she also makes him feel something that he hasn’t before, and he doesn’t want to give that up.
Hadley James is surviving in the crap shoot that fate stuck her in. She never expected that she would be the legal guardian to her nephew due to her sister’s death. Nor did she expect that the only job that could help her to survive would be as a waitress as a strip club, but that is where she lands. She doesn’t need any more complications in her life or any more surprises. But surprises can be good, and Tate appears to be one of the good surprises, but that quickly turns soar when she finds out that he is one of the owners of the studio that her nephew works at. She doesn’t want her nephew to feel anything issue in case this things between then doesn’t’ work out, she so swears Tate to silence. But Hadley forgot that fate has a hand in her life, and she will have to choose to follow her heart and trust again, or she may lose her chance at happiness.
I think Winter Travers has another winner on her hands! I absolutely loved Tate. His character was a nice mix of strong and sweet with sexy and moody thrown in to make a nice mix. I liked Hadley, but at times I really wanted to wring her neck. She is a strong character and she shows that by giving up her life and help raise her nephew. Definitely not weak, but there were times that she really irritated me. There are not as many funny moments in this book as there were in the previous one, but I also liked that. It set this book apart from DROPKICK MY HEART in that respect. I also absolutely loved the cameos that were made at the end of the book. AWESOME! I definitely recommend this book.
5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Love on the Mat is the second book in the Powerhouse M.A series by Winter Travers and was a fantastic read! This is the second book that I have read by this author and I was impressed with this book as I was by the first. I recommend that the books are read in order even though this is Tate’s story. In book 1 we met Kellan, sexy, romantic and my new book boyfriend – well until this book and Tate came along! OMG I LOVE LOVE LOVED him!! He appeared in book 1 as he co-owns the martial arts centre that the series is centred around so I was looking forward to reading his story and he didn’t disappoint! If all martial arts teachers are like these guys then I may take it up as a hobby!! So Love on the Mat is Tate and Hadley’s story! I loved them both so much. I loved that Tate was all sexy and dominating and I loved that Hadley was so down to earth, struggling to get by but determined to do it by herself. I really liked the relationship between Hadley and her nephew Ryker. They have both suffered a devastating loss in the last few months but they are trying to get through it together. I really felt for Ryker at some points during the story! Hadley was a feisty character and she provided a few laugh out loud moments for me. I really connected with her; she was a really likeable character. I wanted the best for her and that was definitely Tate – he is so dreamy and a genuinely nice person. Tate knew as soon as her saw Hadley that he wanted her and for more than one night. I love how he was nervous when trying to approach her. He had a lovely possessive nature that wasn’t too over the top. He just wanted to make everything better for her. I love the relationship he had with his friends. The bond between the four of them still shines through in this second book. I loved that we got to see Molly and Sage (from book 1) again in this story. Roman seemed to appear more in this book so I am really hoping that his story is next – I have a feeling there is more to him than meets the eye! I think I have definitely found a new author to love in Winter Travers, I still can’t believe I haven’t read any of her books before this series. Her writing is flawless and really enjoyable to read. I am really looking forward to more from her in the future and definitely more from the Powerhouse boys!!
Love on the Mat ( Powerhouse M.A.) By: Winter Travers 4 out of 5 stars
Such an honor to read and write a review for Love on the mat the second book by Winter Travers in the Powerhouse M.A. series. I'm a fan of Ms Travers. I have read her other books and also I've been waiting on the second book in this series. This book is funny and witty. A great read that will not disappoint you. Tate Holden is co- owner of an karate studio Powerhouse Studio. He owns the studio with three of his friends ( Kellan and Molly story is first book). He has a big house and a new car. Things of the world but he has a void in his life.Tate is a fun loving alpha male. Tate visits the Strip club Sultry Knights with his friends one night he sees a waitress who catches his eye. Tate misses the oppurinty to get to know who she is do to his friend getting drunk; but life is full of second chances. Hadley James has taken some hits in life. Parents killed in a car accident. Sister dyeing of cancer, leaving her to be legal guardian for her 16 year old nephew Ryker. Hadley is living paycheck to paycheck. Things are tight and have not been easy. Her nephew Ryker is the bright light in her life. Determined to give him the best life she takes a job at the Strip club as a waitress. Hadley is independent and stubborn. Tate knows as soon as he sees Hadley that his bachelor days are numbered. They discover that Ryker is one of the students of Powerhouse studio. Hadley does not like nor need any complications in her or especially not Ryker life. Hadley doesn't want her relationship with Tate to affect Ryker so a secret is formed. But secrets never go as we want. Winter Travers has written another great book. You will fall in love with Tate. He is nice, strong, sweet with a balance of moody and sexy. Hadley is cautious, strong and stubborn. Her stubbornness is the thing that keeps her from Tate. The chemistry between the two of them is of the charts! Will drama and stubbornness stop Tate from getting his girl? Will secrets destroy the life that Hadley is building for her and Ryker. Will Love on the Mat form into A Love for Always. I highly recommend this book from Ms Travers. You will not be disappointed. Read Drop Kick My Heart the first book in the Powerhouse M.A. series.
Yet another stellar story by Winter Travers. I always know each book by this author will rock my world, but I can never quite anticipate the splendid greatness that Winter puts into each character, plot and conclusion. I am always chomping at the bit to get my hands on the next release, and Love on the Mat is just as good, if not better than the last book.
Hadley is raising her teenage nephew and works at a club to make ends meet. She is prepared to put her life on hold to give Ryker everything he needs and wants after the terrible time he has had. Now, I really, really, really love Hadley, as she is down to earth, maybe a little crazy, and fights tooth and nail to work for everything they need. She is no rich socialite living off Daddy’s trust fund. She works. She works hard and that compassionate tenacity to do everything on her own and earn it on her own, comes from someone who is not afraid to get her hands dirty by doing menial tasks to get the job done and money in their pockets. She has had nothing given to her and does it tough, and that fact just makes me love her even more.
Tate, the moment he lays eyes on Hadley, is smitten. He wants to race in on his white horse to save the day, but can read her well and knows she would hate that, so he is prepared to allow her to call the shots and help her if and when she allows it. He does have a certain way of bending her to his will at times, but mostly he is happy to go along with her wishes.
Hadley and Tate together are explosive. The passion and hunger for each other ignites the pages. I loved Tate’s gentle way with Hadley, despite his martial arts background. He shines as an alpha male with a palpable sexiness. Add a quirky Hadley and her nutty curse words into the mix, and you have one sensational coupling. They dazzled me with wit, charm, off the charts hot sexual moments, along with a fairytale ending after one epic battle to be together.
Love on the Mat sums up all that is Tate and Hadley’s love story. I reached the end long before I was ready and am turning inside out in anticipation of the next release in the Powerhouse M.A. series. This drool worthy read is one I recommend as a MUST READ. 5 stars for Love on the Mat and the sensationally talented Winter Travers
Love on the Mat Powerhouse M.A. Book 2 written by Winter Travers 4 stars
Love on the Mat is the second book in this series. It can be read as a stand alone, but you will get so much more out of reading book one Dropkick My Heart first. It will help you understand the characters and how they all met and became friends and business partners. Book one is Kellan and Molly’s story and you get a little glimpse of them in Love on the Mat as well as some familiar names from another one of Winter’s series. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series to see who will get their story.
Hadley struggles paycheck to paycheck as a waitress trying to do the right thing. She recently became the legal guardian of her sixteen year old nephew Ryker. His passion is karate and Hadley aka Haddie is trying to keep him enrolled in classes. As soon as she thinks she has a handle on her new life something happens to set her back two steps. She feels she is letting Ryker down and will do whatever it takes to be independent and give him the life he deserves. Hadley refuses to take handouts ~ she always finds a way to make ends meet.
Tate is the owner of Powerhouse and from the outside looking in he has the business, nice truck, great house and a group of loyal friends….however he lives a lonely life. He spends his time at Powerhouse or hanging out with the guys after work if he's not home alone.
While reading this book you can feel the love Hadley has for her nephew. You can understand her struggle of trying to do the right thing for him even though it's not the life she thought she'd end up with. You can sympathize with her financial struggles while trying to keep a reputable job and not give into other measures to make a quick dollar. Your heart breaks for Hadley knowing she wants to pursue a relationship yet doing the right thing for Ryker keeps her from doing what she wants and getting the love and support from a man she knows is a good, hardworking, trustworthy, attractive, humorous guy.
“He nodded and left like the gentleman that he was. I said no, and he listened. I said no, and I broke my own heart. I was alone, and it was my own fault.”
**RECEIVED AN ARC FOR AN HONEST REVIEW** Loved the story of Tate and Hadley! The more I read about the Kung Fu hotties, the more I’m liking these boys. Hadley is working as a waitress in a strip club trying to support her nephew after he lost his mom (her sister) to cancer. Hadley’s life seems to be one mishap after another. I honestly know how Hadley feels—when it rains it seems to pour sometimes. Tate is tired of doing the bachelor thing, especially after he sees firsthand how a loving relationship enhances his friend’s life (Kellen and Molly). Tate and Hadley were perfect for each other—Hadley was headstrong and independent and Tate was nurturing and supportive. These two had chemistry when they were together that they couldn’t ignore. Hadley insists they keep their relationship a secret since Ryker is taking karate lessons from Tate&KungFuCo. Tate doesn’t want for them to be a secret but he goes along with Hadley because Hadley in secret is better than no Hadley at all. We all know secrets have a way of being exposed, and the fallout of their secret happens at a very inopportune time. The love between Hadley and Ryker is beautiful and shows that a family’s love is like no other. No matter how many friends you think you have, your family is always there for you and will lift you up and offer safe shelter in the storm. Hadley and Ryker’s confrontation had me crying. If you’ve ever lost a loved one, this scene will ring true—very emotional. I look forward to seeing more of the secondary characters in the book--Roman is a flat-out clown and I can’t wait for his story, especially since he thinks he has it all figured out. Seeing Lo, Meg and company again was a bonus treat! Can’t get enough of my Meggie-poo! Dante and Roman need to go ahead and tap out, because you know they don’t stand a chance when they meet their women! Looking forward to the next books in this series!
“Love on the Mat” by Winter Travers is the second book in the Powerhouse M. A. series and will have readers demanding more of the men of Powerhouse!
Tate Holten is at the top of his game: money, beautiful house, cars and a job that he loves. Being one of the co-owners of Powerhouse M. A. gives Tate everything he needs – except what he is searching for the most. He longs for someone special to share everything with. A night on the town keeping Roman out of trouble might be just the thing Tate needs.
Hadley James is trying to get through life without screwing anything up. Well, more so than it already is. Dealing with the loss of her sister and being a guardian to her teenage nephew, Ryker, Hadley just wants a break – with a long nap. The last thing she needs is a distraction. No matter how handsome and ripped he is.
Will Tate convince Hadley to give him a chance? Or will Hadley’s determination to do things on her own push him away?
The author does it again! Funny, well-developed characters drive this emotional story about learning to listen to your heart. It has the right mix of humor, steamy scenes and romance to make it one of my top favorites. When I’m reading this series, it feels more like I’m part of a conversation – that I’m right there with the characters. Hadley is a wonderful mixture of independence and vulnerability. The character doesn’t whine about her situation – she makes the best of it with humor and grace. That is the main reason I connected with the story. Being a hot mess aunt myself, I can relate to her struggles and feeling like you are never doing enough. The author has a knack for creating characters that feel like they are sitting in your living room with you and I love that. Now that I finished this 5-star read, I’m in search of more books by this amazing author! This is a standalone novel, but I feel it should be read in order to get the full scope of the world the author created.
When Tate goes for a night out to the Sultry Knights strip club with Roman; one of the four owners of the Powerhouse studio, he himself is a co-owner of, he spies a pretty waitress, but due to Roman’s drunken antics he doesn’t get chance to speak to her. When he next goes to the club he finally gets chance to speak to Hadley and he knows right from the off, that there is something about her that makes him want her.
Hadley is barely making it, living payday to payday. She’s recently become guardian to her 16 year old nephew, Ryker, meaning her life has dramatically changed, leading her to get the job at the club as the pay is better than what anyone else is willing to pay someone who only has her GED. Unfortunately, her lack of funds though mean that she can’t afford to pay for Ryker to have the karate lessons he loves. Yet another thing to make her feel like she is failing at every turn. When she meets the hottie at the club though, things might be looking up for her finally. When she discovers that Tate is one of the Masters at Ryker’s beloved Powerhouse, will she allow herself the risk of being with him, when the possibility of it not working out could make things harder for Ryker?
These two had some good chemistry going on. Hot sexy times, some sweet moments, and of course a little bit of drama, mainly caused by Hadley’s stubbornness. We got to see some more of Molly and Sage, and those two ladies are pretty funny when they get together and alcohol is involved. Maybe not quite Meg and Cyn (from the Devil’s Knights series) funny but not far off. Speaking of which, the strip club name may sound familiar seeing as a certain MC own the club.
I enjoyed this instalment in the Powerhouse M.A. series and I’m looking forward to the next one, I’m hoping for it be about Roman, so we will see. I give Love on the Mat 4.5 stars.
