Sandy MacGregor doesn't want to be a hero. He has been unwillingly transported through time and space to the planet Zarathandra. He is being used for selfish purposes by a power hungry Goddess. He's stuck on the Rithian border where a rebellion brewing for centuries is about to explode in his face. And now, accompanied by an ancient desert scout and a bumbling sorcerer whose magic does more harm than good, he must journey to a dread region between the worlds to confront the evil usurper behind the realm-shattering revolt. Sandy would certainly prefer a destiny that was considerably less dangerous...but that's life.
Very similar to the first book in the series, but I particularly loved the concept of fighting what was essentially a drawn out battle within a castle/fortress of many rooms/areas taken out of time and hidden throughout same, never in total control of the current owner/ruler. It made for easier reading and enjoyment. I thought that the war that Aku fought after separating from the party was treated very matter of factly and in a few paragraphs was fought up to the surprise ending of bringing one battle to another through a potion/spell, which seemed ridiculously out of proportion to the power that was supposed to be in possession of the ones brought into that war, particularly the shee. A quick read for sure.
Please note that my site SFReviews.net, in operation since July 2001, is where I post my SFF reviews, and I only use Goodreads to help direct interested fellow readers who are more likely to spend time here than following the site itself. Thank you. (If I review a non-SFF title, I will do so here.)
