“Chocolate With a Side of Murder,” a very entertaining novel in the collection “Meredith Potts Fourteen Book Cozy Mystery Set,” is the main reason I picked up the book set. It is the first book introducing Sabrina Daley and her involvement in mysteries and murder investigation. It is the first book in what I understand will be a multi-book series. Yeah! This story earns 5/5 Double Espressos!
Have you read it? Sabrina Daley continues to struggle, ten years later, with the disappearance of her sister. One morning Jessica went out for her routine jog and never returned, and in the decade since, no clues, no evidence, no Jessica. But, life goes on, as Sabrina manages the family’s coffee shop (the Daley Buzz), supports friend and employee Kelly O’Reilly with her frightening encounter at the Watterson estate and BFF Shannon Smith with her romantic entanglements, and gets involved in more than one mystery…and murder. Is that a light in the window of the abandoned dilapidated Watterson mansion? For what purpose are well-dressed men attending and not discussing an invite-only gathering at the Old Banquet Hall? What motive would cause someone to murder a business neighbor and friend? Sabrina hoped to dive into work and busy herself enough to avoid memories of her sister, but this…may just be too much.
I am relatively new to Meredith Potts’s writing…where have I been, you ask? I have some of her books, but recently I pushed myself to start reading the ARC of “Caramels With a Side of Murder,” but I discovered some references that I needed clarification. I found in my copy of “Meredith Potts Fourteen Book Cozy Mystery Set” this featured novel that prequels “Caramels…” How marvelous to start with that! More details were given to make clearer the back story and character connections. I highly recommend this book, and the other thirteen stories? They are frosting on an already enjoyable “Chocolate With a Side of Murder.” This story was very engaging, scary at times, and I found Meredith’s characters varied and well developed with reasonable reactions to the events and relationships. Although there are some conclusions offered for closure, the book has some of the main questions left unanswered for future books like “Caramels…” The setting of Treasure Cove, a coastal California tourist town, issues with managing the coffee shop, and dealing with the pain of not knowing what happened to Jessica play out in the background along with Sabrina’s love interest with a local detective. i am soooo glad that I found this book, now I can truly enjoy the ARC I was lucky to get.

I was so excited to read this collection from Ms.Potts because I had read some but not all of the fourteen mysterys and had enjoyed them emencely. I wasn't let down because I discovered marvelous, vibrant and outrageous characters I hadn't met before and more mysterys to challenge my little grey cells it is a great way to spend some time away from the world at large and enjoying it while you do. This is a definite two thumbs up kind of collection 😏🙂👍👍Kat
I read these books 📚 one right after another. I Like the way Meredith Potts writes ,her books have good mysteries just enough romance. They keep me interested they are just good stories.
3 stars for light, mildly entertaining summer reading. Plots, character development and dialogue were weak and repetitive. Still somewhat entertaining, however.
A group of books by one author one of which I already reviewed. All are great reads with different settings and characters which keep you involved to the end
I love this set of mysteries about Bluebell. Can't wait to read more of Bluebell's mysteries. She always found herself caught in the middle of a murder.
