Book 5 of The Echoes of Sol series adds more emotions and depth than the last few books. There's still tons of fast paced action and danger, but Lost and Found starts delving deeper into crew relationships and larger political issues. It's a good move for the series.
We pick up with Bit and the crew of the Lenore exactly where book 4 left off. The ship is on route to Seattle to find Bit's niece. Of course, it's not a simple task because nothing is ever simple where Bit is involved. The crew sets about catching the attention of the wrong people as soon as they debark. Bit contributes to their danger as the story progresses with her continued lack of trust. I understand why she can't trust in these men who have never given her any reason to doubt them. Every memory she has as an IS is of an owner using her, taking advantage of her or destroying her belief in humanity. That is a deeply ingrained belief and no matter how frustrating or hurtful the crew finds her behavior, she is not able to change it. She loves this crew, but is incapable of normal relationships and normal interactions. Maybe in time, she can overcome her upbringing. Odin and Jack both give in to their feelings for Bit during the action of the book, confusing her even more. One is a better fit for her at this time, but I'm not sure that everything is settled yet. It's a shame she has to choose only one. There are also multiple crew betrayals. This is the most dysfunctional family!
Once again Charissa Dufour has packed a book full of action, danger, and suspense. I loved the final part of this book. I'm interested to see how much trouble the latest addition adds to the crew. I'm also hoping for a new XO. I have never been a fan of Kat's and now even less. As always I will be eagerly awaiting the crew's next adventure!
