Jace Dark. Dangerous. Messed up. Yeah, I may be all of those things, but with her I’m not. She taught me how to love, how to be a one woman man. Except now my woman wants to leave me, ‘cause I can’t promise her forever. I know I’d never want anyone else but she wants the ring to prove it. Not to mention the baby. But if she knew about my past she’d run far and fast. Then I’d have no choice but to chase her, ‘cause I can’t let her get away. Cory I hate him. I love him. I want him. I need him. I hate myself for being weak and caving every time he touches me. But I can’t help myself. He’s just that good. I can’t get over him if I’m always under him, but he’s not letting me go without a fight and you’d have to have an iron will to resist this man.
Cheryl Douglas is a USA Today Bestselling author who kicks back in the country surrounded by farm land and nature. Her life revolves around family, country music, sports, travel, caffeine, chocolate, and deadlines.
So, pleasantly pleased to have found this author free on Amazon. She has a gem here. A couple who are head over heels in love and can't seem to keep their hands off one another. Yet, after four years it's no longer enough for Cory. Her clock has been ticking for her and Jace is no close to wanting to marry or have a family. Cory loves him and wants to be with him and she knows with all her heart he loves her but they just can't agree on these points. So, she packs up and leaves to find a man that will want those things with her. Owning their successful bar together makes moving on impossible when possessive alphas scar them all men who look at you away. How far will she go to get away from him to get to the dream she has? Will Jace come around or will he be left holding on to his stance instead of her? I give this: 5 stars. Free on Amazon. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com.
I thoroughly loved reading the enthralling and entertaining romance story by the wonderfully talented Cheryl Douglas. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader's copy. Cory's heart belongs to Jace but Cory needs to find someone to love, marry, and have children with. Jace loves Cory but has no intention of marrying and/or having children. Cory has to see Jace everyday since they own and run a bar together and doesn't know how much longer she can do this. Jace feels like he losing his heart and can barely go on with Cory by his side and misses her. When Cory comes by late at night to pick up her birth control pills, both Jace and Cory can't keep their hands off of each other again. Two months later, Cory is still not feeling well and goes to the doctor and finds out what's wrong and can't believe it. Read the highly recommended, fabulously written with an engaging story line, and a must read love story.
I read an ARC and so glad I did. This is a very good start for a new series.
I liked that Cory knew exactly what she wanted and what she could tolerate and what she could not. It is just as important to know what you DON'T want as to know what you DO want. She did.
I loved Jace. I love males who want to "take care" of his woman. He did. Of course he had issues that came between him and Cory, but in the end he figured out what he could live with and what he couldn't.
This was a quick read, novella length story. I was able to read it all in one sitting. But that's not the only reason I was able to finish it so quickly. I was also so hooked on it!!!! Given the subject of it, it really was the perfect length, with the perfect characters and perfect delivery.
It follows Cory and Jace, business partners and former lovers. They had been in a serious relationship for four years, at which point Cory realized that not only Jace didn't want the same things in life that she did, but he was not willing to give it any thought either. Having a family of her own was very important to her. Jace had had a pretty crappy childhood and bad experience as a teenager, and he didn't think he had it in him to commit to having children of his own. Once they break up over it, he does his best to convince Cory that they could be happy together just the two of them, but she's had enough, and cannot handle more. It ends with a well deserved for both characters HEA.
I so loved these two characters. They were not only hot together, but also had this awesome way of interacting outside the bedroom as well. This was my first read by this author and she's definitely one that I'd want to follow.
***I received an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion***
Its been awhile since I've been able to review one of Mrs. Douglas's books. But I'm so happy I got the chance to read the start of this series. The Ex's series is hotter, dirtier (in a good way), and sexier than Mrs. Douglas's other books!!!!
I thought Jace and Cory were very likable characters. Though Cory drove me nuts a few times. And I felt like Jace was right when he said that Cory expected him to make all the change's. Though yes I understood that Cory knew what she wanted out of life and a relationship. I did find it a little unfair that Jace was just expected to male all the changes. And Jace was totally Swoon Worthy and way to hard on himself!!!!
I thought that this was a really great and enjoyable start to a new series by Mrs. Douglas. Of course I do wish it was a full length book, but begger's can't be choosers. And I'll take what I can get from Mrs. Douglas!!!!!
I'm giving this book 4 Hot Stars out of 5 and can't wait to read more of this series!!!!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
OMG Cheryl has done it again This is a short story about Cory and Jace, they ran a bar together and had been in a relationship for years but had broken up because Cory wanted marriage and babies and Jace didn't due to something that had happened in his past. This book was a fantastic read that kept me reading from start to finish in one sitting and was an emotional rollercoaster, if you like alpha males who like to look after their women and the women in question who doesn't take any crap, you'll love this standalone story. Can't wait for the next book.
This is the first book in a new series about Sexy Exes and it is fabulous! Jace and Cory are meant for each other, but Jace just cannot commit. After his rough childhood he feels he is not good marriage or father material. Cory needs to have that commitment, especially when something comes up and she is forced to make some tough decisions. This book is HOT and sexy, and so hard to put down! This was an honest review from an ARC shared by the author! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! Keep them coming Cheryl Douglas!
“If you like it hot, this is the series for you.” This disclaimer in the description is totally accurate. I love this new writing style and series, “The Exes” by Cheryl Douglas. Slightly naughty, a bit grittier, and a tad of down & dirty. Jace is a bad boy fighting his past while trying to hold on to the best thing that’s ever happened to him and Cory is a good girl who loves him to distraction but can’t be with him. I want more, please!
I am a HUGE Cheryl Douglas fan from a free read of the first Nashville Nights books and every book after that! This book is no exception. Since this book is the first in the new series, consider me IN on each one to follow!!! I LOVED Perfect Storm. Jace and Cory will take your heart along for the journey and not want to stop reading until its over...and then want more!!! Definitely 5 stars in my book!!!
This is a new twist in writing style for Ms Douglas and boy does she know how to draw you in. Started reading a couple of hours ago and didn't put it down until I finished it. Cory and Jace are former lovers who can't keep their hands off of each other. She wants more out of their relationship but Jace only wants to have fun. You must prepare to read nonstop. I am looking forward to more in this series. I recommend this book.
I’m typically not a fan of novellas because I’m always left wanting more to the story. I’m actually glad this was shorter because the resolution of the angst happened a lot faster. This is a quick, hot read. I liked both the characters and liked that they were so in love with each other. There was enough history explained that I didn’t feel like I didn’t know the characters. We get an HEA and the promise of more hot stories to come!
Cory and Jace don't just burn up the sheets. They set the pages on fire. Ms. Douglas always delivers. With Perfect Storm, she does what she does best. Blend complicated with sexy and gets powerful results. From the dual first person points of view, to the emotional performances of the main characters, this novella is meant to stir up some heat.
I confess I'm a big fan of Cheryl Douglas. I find her writing so believable and she makes her characters come to life in a way that few authors can do. That said, holy moly, I didn't know she could get this down and dirty and I loved it!! My only complaint is I wish it was a longer novel. Can't wait for the next book in this series. I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I received Perfect Storm as an ARC.....and I am SOOO thrilled I did!!! I loved the story of Jace and Cory...the trials and tribulations. Cory being afraid of what could happen....Jace just wanting to care for her. This is a bit more "racy" than Cheryl normally writes...but it's a perfect blend of her amazing story telling and a bit of heat!! Can't wait for the next book in the series!!!
Loved this story. Cheryl Douglas has done it again with a new series. Jace is the type of guy you can't forget, but him and his one true love don't see eye to eye on everything. Cory wants a family of her own, but demons from Jace's past won't allow him to go that far. So whats a girl to do? And how can you get past one another when you both have a business to run? together.
You don't know what you lost until its not there anymore. Have and Corey had dated four four years bought, owned and worked at their bar. Jace couldn't give Corey what she wanted so she had to move on. They saw each other every day still at work but was only making it worse. Great story. Loved both Jace and Corey and the passion they had for each other.
Okay it was about a couple that were broke up but they weren’t really broke up. I mean they were still in each other’s lives daily, that would be hard for anyone. And men can be stupid, they can be slow learners and Jace was definitely that. thank goodness not too late though. Cory was a delightful character.
A wonderful story about a couple the realizes a couple that love each other heart and soul can reach a time in a relationship that Love is not enough. Jace and Cory find that their love for each other is enough to overcome the bump of marriage and children to have their HEA.
Cheryl Douglas you are one of my favorite authors. There is nothing like your books to get me out of my reading funk. Jace and Cory’s story = Love, loss, rekindled love. Beautiful.
