Dr. Samuel “Doc” Westerfield comes from a family obsessed with perfection. When his cherished aunt is murdered, he and Sheriff Cammie Farnsworth begin a journey that takes them into the very heart of Boston’s wealthy society.
As they search to discover what could have happened to his aunt, Doc is forced to confront his own dark secrets that he has kept carefully hidden away over the years. Is he willing to reveal those in order to find her killer? Or, will the need for perfection force Doc to keep buried the truth about his family, his aunt, and more importantly, about himself?
This series is often outside my normal reading range as I rarely read pure mystery. However, the characters are so compelling and the mysteries are well plotted and intricate. There are so many twists and turns that I just keep turning pages to see what happens next. This particular book in the series is no different in its ability to compel interest, and the change in setting added to its charm. I was a little frustrated at the end since I wasn't positive justice had been served. I can't be more specific without a spoiler but there was a particular person that I was itching to see get theirs. Nevertheless, it was another great read.
1.5 stars ⭐️ I missed Twin Ponds. I didn’t like any of these characters and find little to no empathy for millionaires abusing and murdering each other for money. Seeing a glimpse into Doc’s childhood / life was interesting but honestly.. I don’t know if I cared for even the main character throughout this novel. She became a bit too judgy and all mighty towards someone considered her “best friend.”
Twin Ponds Series is the best goodreads. The books have complicated even puzzling storylines of murder not easy to guess ‘whodunit’, and characters readers can relate to and care about. In this book, Doc, who has been a bit of a mystery, takes center stage when his aunt is murdered. I enjoyed getting to know his background better, it’s definitely eye opening, even for him. Sheriff, Cammie has another out of the blue case solved and I don’t believe anyone can guess who. Excellent writing by BT Lord makes an excellent goodread.
Cammie and Doc investigate the murder of his aunt. This leads them to Boston and his dysfunctional, socialite, arrogant family. Doc must face demons from his past and confront the present. Terrific story with lots of red herrings and family emotions before the truth is discovered!
I really like the characters in twin ponds so I prefer the local cases. This was good though. Since it was doc and his Boston family it was interesting to get into his past.
At first I wasn't sure I enjoyed the shift of location for most of this book, but it ended up working to make a well told story, allowing us to gain a lot more depth about Doc. I remain a fan of the series!
I enjoyed this story so much that I couldn't put it down when I should have been doing other things! Cammie is so interesting to follow as she investigates. I can't wait to read the next one in the series.
