Full disclosure: I received a copy directly from the author as one of her Elite Readers, but that in no way affected this review.
The final novel in the Mysterium Chronicles trilogy finds Jordan Temple, AKA the Chosen One, feeling bereft, unaccomplished, and despondent. Starting out where the previous novel, River of Magic, ended, she has fulfilled the prophecy, returning the Ancients to their homeland, but...she is now separated from them. What next for her? Can she find a way in?
Finding out she has more to do to complete the prophecy, she and the few remaining ragtag members are tasked with going to the cities of the Confederated Six to offer a choice: life or death, the Ancient One or Ashtar. Then return for a Final Battle against the evil Magnus.
With new characters seen as well as old characters reintroduced, this is an urban fantasy novel with twists and turns, paranormal creatures and magic, and a clear distinction between good and evil leading to redemption or death.
A few minor typos, but none are so egregious as to spoil the pleasure of reading this compelling, spiritual story. It is action-packed with plenty of surprises. While it could be read as a standalone, don't. Read the whole trilogy as the author has the stories wrap around in emotion-filled ways (and this reader discovered that it is now available as a three-book bundle for $ 2.97 through Kindle).
I must admit, I stretched Wrath of Magic out because I wasn’t ready to finish the series. However, once I reached the end, I couldn’t have been happier with how Simone concluded everything. I loved the introduction of new characters as well as the return of my favorites in fantastic settings. Once again, Simone shows us how incredible her imagination is with each scene (my favorite being Alexandria.)
Throughout the entire series, there are many different types of supernatural creatures, and I had a great time experiencing each quirky and entertaining one Jordan and her friends encountered throughout their lengthy journey. I really admired Jordan’s strength as she encouraged everyone to join her in battle. The villains as usual were incredibly well-written, and it was satisfying as Jordan and her friends battled each one. The last hour of the book is so emotional and intense, make sure you have enough time to finish it in one sitting!
My favorite quote: “Of course he did. He’s a long-tongued liar. He works for Ashtar. And in effect, so do you. Which means, I have to kill you now."
I look forward to seeing what Simone does next. I am hoping for a continuation of either Coastview Prophecies or Swarmed! If you aren’t familiar with those, you must check them out!
I received a copy of this book and volunteered to review it.
This is the final instalment of an amazing fantasy story. Jordan is on one last mission and we're taken on the journey with her. How sad it has to end, perhaps there will be more in the future. Loved being able to review this ARC
The third and last book in the Mysterium chronicles. Must be read in order to follow the story. Just when you think your purpose is served you get split up from your boyfriend and have to unite and redeem a load of different cities. That's the task Jordan faces in this book. It was a wonderful read with plenty of heart breaking moments as the true extent to how bad some of the characters pasts were. The world of Mysterium is essentially one of the rulers and the slaves. We get to see some of the previous baddies and a character we thought wouldn't appear again does. More magic and mayhem with shifters, warlocks and vampires.
