THE SPACE BETWEEN is an edgy supernatural YA about a troubled high school girl who is having dreams of a terrible massacre at her school, and becomes convinced that she can prevent the shooting if she can unravel the dream.

The rape culture seems to be ascendant. A self-proclaimed sexual predator has just been elected President of the United States. In other circumstances where he didn't have white money and power behind him he would be on sex offender lists.
But women are starting to fight back. When the Cheeto-in Chief makes his nomination to the Supreme Court, Bitch decides to retaliate, and they ain't happy. In fact you could say they are "mad as hell" and "aren't going to take it anymore.” The group of women who self-styled themselves 'Bitch', set up as a loose confederation similar to Anonymous. This time around some Bitch members are in a killing mood.
FBI agent Mathew Roarke has returned to the FBI determined to make a difference in fighting the rape culture. He has been promised his way in setting up a special squad to investigate sex trafficking, child exploitation, and other aspects of rape culture.
First, however, he is told he has to go to Santa Barbara to investigate what seems to him to be a non-crime. Later two fraternity boys disappear and he is forced into investigations where he has zero interest in the victims or in finding the perpetrators, even though this isn’t a Lindstrom crime.
He no longer has an interest in arresting the much damaged serial killer, Cara Lindstrom. From previous books he understands the why of her, plus she has saved his life. He still wants her, but not to arrest her.
Cara has been on an Indian reservation to heal and hide. She realizes Ortiz, the deputy sheriff who has been chasing her for years, has put a bounty on her head, but not to kill. Oh no, he has much darker plans in store for Cara. Roarke and one of his co-workers are horrified to discover the bounty too. Cara and Roarke both decide this man must be stopped, but both have very different plans on how to accomplish this.
Hunger Moon is a tough book to read, on so many levels, with themes of rape, torture, and breath-taking stories of official neglect of these terrible crimes against women. Writing, plot, and characters aren't included in that previous statement as they shine as usual. S/A Epps is his wonderful self and S/A Singh comes into her own in very surprising ways. Both are having problems envisioning their places in this new scary America, where color, gender or religion can invite a death sentence.
However, content rules and Sokoloff paints a scary distopic world based on our new political reality. She doesn’t pull punches and has no problem forcing us to contemplate our personal realities, and how we might react to certain scenarios.
Yeah, I'm giving this one five stars. So sue me. I love this series. (I've been reading too much about Bitch) Although I think I should take off a half star because of lack of face time between Roark and Cara. I miss him wondering if he will survive being in her vicinity.
I suggest the whole series, but Hunger Moon can definitely stand on its own mostly because of the strong political bent it has taken.
Speaking of which, do NOT skip the Afterward. Ms Sokoloff reminds us of what is fiction and what is not. She also gives us valuable links to organizations that are out there to combat rape culture, exploitation of missing children and the trafficking of children and adults. It is frustrating to realize how many crimes including murder-which has no statute of limitations-would be solved if the backlog of rape kits would be run and if more police departments would become involved in the VICAP program.

5 shining stars
Phenomenal! Ms. Sokoloff knocked it out of the park with her latest installment of the Huntress Moon series.
In Hunger Moon, the author takes on the horrific rape culture permeating our country. She also brings to the surface such startling facts such as there is a greater than 90% chance a rapist will never pay for his actions. This book was written in 2017, during the first year of our new government elected in late 2016. Ms. Sokoloff has well described the darkness and the fear that has blanketed our country with the fall in human rights since that election. I normally eschew novels with major political overtones, but I was swept away by this one.
Our FBI agents—Roarke, Epps, and Singh are angry. And they are conflicted. Very conflicted. To the point where all of them have thoughts of leaving the Bureau. It is an eye opener to think about how these people can do their jobs when their assigned missions go against their morals. How far can they be pushed?
We are also following Jade and Cara from the previous books. How are they reacting to the national uprising of women against rape? Hundreds, perhaps thousands of women are on a mission because if no one will protect them, they will have to protect themselves, right? What’s going on in Roarke’s head when it comes to Cara? And what’s happening with Singh? She is not acting herself.
The characters, dialogue, plot and writing are superb, as has been the case throughout the entire series. Ms. Sokoloff’s research for this book is outstanding; I learned a lot, which is always a bonus. I missed not having more Roarke+Cara time, but I was well compensated for that with what the author did focus on. Plus, I thought the upside of the little interaction they did have was that the poignancy of it all was so much more.
You will probably not like this book if you are a staunch Republican. I see a lot of one star reviews that complained there was too much politics (maybe they meant anti-Republican politics?). As I say, as a rule, I’m not a reader of political books, but this story is more than politics. This book is about good and evil, right and wrong, basic human rights, and so much more. After reading all 5 books in a row, I cannot wait for book 6. I’m really missing these characters.
I give the entire series my highest recommendation.

Hunger Moon is a fast faced, edge of your seat, FBI thriller by Alexandra Sokoloff. Long ago I read FBI thrillers and spy novels but quit cold turkey after Ruby Ridge and the War on Terror. I realized that these books were nothing more than glorified propaganda and I wasn't that stupid. Now comes Sokoloff with FBI agents that are as conflicted about the current state of world affairs as most of us. They believe in the law, they believe in doing right but how does one do that when the people in charge are re-writing the laws and the Constitution that they swore to uphold. It's a dilemma many Americans are facing every day.
In each of the books in this series, this is book number 5, the agents are after a serial killer who is seeking revenge against those who brutalized her as a child/young teen. In Hunger Moon, however, the theme has shifted as women across America have become aware of the manhunt and the reasons behind the killings. They are enraged at the ever growing rape climate, misogyny and general crimes against women occurring since the last election and the increasing realization that the courts are being stacked against these women who ultimately will have no recourse. Agents Roarke and Epps are tasked with finding the perpetrators who are threatening frat boys - because that's what the FBI does these days. Meanwhile these frat boys are planning a hunting party for pussy- yes, that's right. Because that's what frat boys do these days. In case you think this is liberal bias, do what I did, what I'm sure Sokoloff did - go to Twitter, Instagram, Google and check it out for yourself! It's there for all to see in sickening full color detail.
There is so much going on in this book. New crimes, loose ends from old crimes, cyber crimes, political fall out, and I was literally on the edge of my seat through the entire book! I finished in one sitting, turned around and read it again!! It is book 5 and I was scrambling to catch up in places but it isn't difficult to do. I now go back and read the first four in order.
Yes, the book is political. Find me one that isn't. Even Shakespeare's plays were political commentary. The difference is that Americans have been lulled to sleep by white, male authors who write pro-American white male drivel that is pro- military, pro- government regardless of what that government does. Those who are intelligent have asked for something better, most of us have turned to foreign authors. (Nordic Noir anyone?) Finally, we have a series that addresses current themes, is intelligent and incredibly thrilling to read. I simply cannot recommend this book highly enough.

I admit I didn't like this book for the reasons I express below. Please read the comments below for some very interesting discussion and debate!
I wanted a continuation of the Roarke and Cara story. Instead, the book was mainly a political commentary that blamed "rape culture" on the President of the United States. It went just too far -- "the end of the world" -- really? Rape was not happening before the election?
I read for escapism and good story telling. I don't need author bias and personal opinions interjected to give a "real" picture. I'm not a big fan of vigilantism either and these women in the book are crossing a line that I can no longer support even in fiction.
Sorry, not for me and the end of the road for me as I won't continue the series.
Alexandra Sokoloff has broken my reader-author covenant. She has completely alienated me and I tell you that I won't be reading or buying or recommending this or any of her future works.
Too bad because I had previously enjoyed this series.

I don't understand why other readers allow authors to dictate their political bias to them in a work of fiction. I read to escape, not to be bombarded with facebook-like pap and rhetoric from the left.
She is way off base. No more. Where is the reader outcry???? I am tired of authors doing this.
Just write your story -- I don't care about what your personal beliefs are. Your political leanings are NOT important -- they belong only to YOU. Stop using your work as a bully pulpit.

Another five star book in this fantastic series!
To appreciate the full impact of Hunger Moon though I really feel that you need to have read the previous books. So much in the stories now depends on knowing and understanding the main characters especially Cara Lindstrom. Without background knowledge I am not sure how she would come across to a new reader.
To say this book is exciting is an understatement. Several different plot lines occur simultaneously leading up to the thrilling finale. The level of blood and gore and the body count is probably higher than in any of the previous books and some of the retribution is nasty. Deserved but still nasty.
It will be interesting to see where the author takes this next. So far she has managed to maintain the reader's sympathy for a main character who is actually a mass murderer. I can't wait to see what happens next!

Their ideals may be righteous but their actions could be considered questionable.
There is IT at play...the evil force which guides those who are weak...
Who relish and thrive on evil and violence...and the hurting of women...
Who can combat this...It comes down to Special Agent Matthew Roarke on the front lines...using his task force to get results. And on her own, Serial Killer Cara Lindstrom using herself as bait...
Those who take the bait should think again...They are playing with more than what they see...
For we all know Cara is no ordinary woman...
Alexandra Sokoloff has taken the gloves off and presented a very difficult picture...one that will make you think, one that will make you care, and one that is crafted with her talent.
The Huntress series takes place over six months in the present and in multiple timelines in the past. Shadow Moon is a culmination of those characters and storylines and it is strongly recommended that the series be read in order.

Hunger Moon, the fifth in The Huntress/FBI Thriller series by Alexandra Sokoloff, picks up where Bitter Moon left off. Special Agent Matthew Roarke and the killer he has been hunting, Cara Lindstrom, have gone their separate ways, retreating to find healing and – what? Strength? Sanity? Serenity? Roarke thinks he probably will never return to the FBI. Cara cherishes her time in Navajo territory, not knowing how long her stay will last.
In a shock felt round the world, a man with an overabundance of ill will and/or ignorance driving his agenda has been elected president. At least this is what people of non-white, non-male, non-straight, non-wealthy America and its allies are feeling, and thus, they feel angry, frightened, and threatened. Meanwhile, even as Roarke has discovered that a long-time foe of Cara’s has placed a bounty on her via his Dark Web chat rooms. He is sickened, but he learns that his faithful co-worker, Agent Antara Singh, has hacked into Ortiz’s accounts and is monitoring the ongoing chatter.
The country is in an uproar. Alexandra Sokoloff has taken events from real life. The 2016 election, the marches and protests, complete with pussy hats. What she has conjured up is the dystopic state where everyone, it seems, must choose a side. Will it be the misogynistic, racist destroyers of life as they know it, or will it be the radical supporters of Bitch, the anonymous ultra-feminist warriors who now threaten the patriarchy with exposure, justice, even death?
Roarke has escaped to his own little world for two months; however, something almost inane draws him out. There is an episode at UCSB, which to him seems relatively harmless on the face of it. That is, until he realizes that someone is lying and there is much more to the “prank” than meets the eye. The stunt has Bitch written all over it, and there is an underlying tone that spells danger.
In the meantime, Cara has been patrolling the land for the Navajos, but she senses that her stewardship won’t last. The hunger moon is waxing, and the voices are calling.
In Hunger Moon we see the return of Cara and Jade, and we learn more about Andrea Janovy, the mysterious woman whose name was on the visitor register at the prison. Of course, we have the likable, loyal, and steady Agent Damien Epps. Most fascinating of all, we get to see a lot of Singh, who has evolved and comes into her own in this story in unexpected and remarkable ways. I expect that we will see her story continue in book six. Even though we don’t see much of Cara, she is more determined and committed than ever.
As for Roarke, he seems to have gained a sense of clarity and focus. While he doesn’t want to be involved with privileged frat boys or their parents, he feels he has no choice if he wants his true agenda taken seriously: Get ViCAP up to snuff. Grapple with the backlog of the national rape kits, thousands upon thousands of them going back many, many years, allowing rapists to rape again and again. Use RICO laws to pursue and prosecute sex traffickers. Work with other agencies to help combat trafficking on the web and out on the streets. Most of all, this is the message of Hunger Moon . Yes, it is harsh. I tend to steer away from dystopian novels. After I had finished this one, it struck me that much of what I’ve felt ever since last November has felt somewhat like I’m in the midst of a dystopian country. I understand that women feel powerless. Angry. Filled with rage. Afraid. Hurt. I don’t like that the women in this book feel that they have to kill to take back their power. I don’t like the anarchy in this book.
Is there another way to deliver this message? I don’t know. Is violence the only language that perpetrators of violence understand? What I do like is that there are three FBI agents in this book who get it, three agents who see Cara Lindstrom for who she is, who understand, at least in part, why, and who want change. That alone makes me want to read the next book, because I haven’t a clue how Cara Lindstrom can become anyone different from who she is now. I’d like to see her evolve into a more complete person than Roarke sees – a woman with the emotional development of a five-year-old child. I think she’s more than that, but I’d really like to know who this woman is now besides a woman bent on killing every manifestation of It that she can kill. What an exhausting way to live! I’d like to see her be more than a killer. We got a wonderful version of the teenage Cara in Bitter Moon. I’d love to see a more personal look at Cara’s inner thoughts to see where she might go next. Does she have hopes and dreams? Any thoughts of settling down? Where will the journey take her? Stay tuned...I know I will.
As with the other four books in the series, this book should be read in order and should not be read as a standalone.

HUNGER MOON by talented author Alexandra Sokoloff, is Book V in the Thriller Award-nominated Huntress/FBI series. Hunger Moon is the sequel to Bitter Moon. These books keep getting better and better! I am hooked on this series! So good!
It is highly recommended that you read these books in sequence as the storyline continues on from where book one leaves off.

In the previous four books in this series, the agents are after a serial killer who is seeking revenge against those who brutalized her as a child. But in Hunger Moon, women across America have become aware of the manhunt and the reasons behind the killings. This is one of those books that felt too damn short, it's the kind of energetic, blood soaked fiction I could keep reading forever. As it was, it became a late night, the perfect time for a book about the creeping evil of It, that dark, whispering force infecting human nature.
All the books before this one held that wickedness at their centre, the vigilante Cara Lindstrom fighting back, with knives and deadly energy, against the most brutal forms of male on female violation. Yet before now it's seemed more like over the top fun, this one feels relevant. Centring on campus rape, old boy networks, judicial and legal failures to prosecute rapists, the new top down, pussy grabbing attitudes to women- this is a real time commentary on modern society wrapped in a fictional 'Bitch' fight back. Sign me up.
My only criticism would be that it lacked character development, especially for Cara and Roarke. Maybe this instalment suffers in that account because of the outstanding nature of Bitter Moon, the young Cara adding so much more to our understanding of the series and the character. I'm not going to lie, I missed that version of her.
In any case, I'll never not be entertained by these books. Sokoloff's writing gets better all the time and she's not afraid to take some risks. Keep 'em coming.

Two stories are intertwined. First, there’s the story of FBI Agents Roarke, Singh and Epps as they are sent to investigate threats against ‘fraternity’ boys in Santa Barbara. This rich student world was alien to me – full of privileged boys from wealthy families. The boys seem destined for high positions and they feel they can get away with anything during their student days – ie. drugs, rape, wild parties, gang rape etc. The local police are struggling with political hierarchies and all the boys have ‘friends in high places’.
Anyway, cue Roarke and his team – who’ve been called in to find out about threats made against the boys by a cyber-group called ‘Bitch’. Bitch want rapes to be prosecuted. They want the rich boys to pay for their crimes.
The second thread of the story involves Cara Lindstrom who is hiding out in the desert. There’s a price on her head and a group of men are out to hunt her down. I’m not up on all the backstory, but it seems Agent Roarke has fallen in love with serial killer Cara.
Agent Singh (woman) feels great sympathies with Bitch, and her loyalties are going to be tested. Agents Roarke and Epps will have their loyalties tested in other ways.
There is a great deal of bloodshed and throats are cut. The big question is - Are the deaths due to Cara? Or is there a copycat killer? Or is it Bitch?
Cara is under threat and Roarke and his team will find their priorities turned around. Professional principles will vie with personal for all of the FBI team.
This is a great story and well written. I loved the characters and felt engrossed in the plot. Even better, I got the feeling this wasn’t the strongest of the series. This was my first book by Sokoloff and I look forward to going back and catching up on the others.

This book deserves a long and detailed review. But I'm spent. It was so freaking raw and emotional, I won't be able to express my feelings.

This story is one big ugly trigger.
Rape. Rasicm. Misogyny. Violence. Rape.
It has a very strong political background, which I won't touch. Many governments, many countries 'live' this ugliness. It was, it is and it will be, if we won't stop it.
I wish this was a dystopia, but it wasn't for the most part.
The story has a real side, a real und disturbing side.
Rape and abuse happen every day, every hour, every second. And the justice doesn't come every time.
They know, they see it, but they keep silent.
The book shows an incredible power of humanity, which may be late, but not too late.
Some readers may feel compassion or some kind of unfair punishment for the villains, who were punished by vigilantes, I didn't. Yep, I didn't even flinch, wenn they killed the fraternity boys, who raped women; who even filmed and took pics of raped girls to show off their 'power'. They deserved much more torturous death.
The following lines are hursh and maybe slightly exaggerated in someone's eyes, but they are true. Unfortunately. And not only in America, but in the whole world.
This book is NOT a hateful vendetta against all men, nope. There are still many decent men, not all are cruel. The same as not all women are saint.
I complained about the hero in my reviews to previous books. But the author gave him an amazing character development. I won't take my rant back, but I say now - good job, Agent Roarke, you are on the right way!
Cara, Jane and all the Bitches.
You may hate them, you may judge them.
But they fight for YOU! The fight for your mother, your sister, your daughter!
They may be criminals due to the law and society criteria, but they make a difference. They fight, they kill, they protect us!

...the Greek system is a hunting ground. We are breeding entitled racist misogynists in a petri dish of rape culture. These thugs go on to make laws and enforce laws that perpetuate rape culture and racism.

At a certain point, you have to start asking yourself how to actually solve the problem. Because a two percent conviction rate doesn’t even begin to count. How long until we have an equal number of female judges? How long before we make even the slightest dent in rape cases? Given the political nightmare we’re living in, what hope in hell do we have of that happening now?
After a beat, she heard murmurs from the girls: “No more rape culture.” “End rape culture.” “End rape.” “That’s what I’m talking about.”
Jade looked deliberately around at all of them, a hard stare. “And you think that’s gonna happen? With laws? Really? When sixty-seven percent of judges are men? When eighty-eight percent of cops are men? Eighty-one percent of Congress? Seventy-nine percent of senators? WTF, y’all?”

Totally totally brilliant yet again.
Alexandra Sokoloff tells the stories most are disinclined to tell and in her main series protagonist Cara, has created an incredibly sympathetic strong female character who, rather than grey area's has so many colours you may get blinded.
This instalment, as all the others, is pacy, considered and hard hitting - with a side dose of reality and an authentically twisted view of the world. It is unusual to be honest to find novels that you can refer to as "proper page turners" that also have the ability to stop you in your tracks and ask the hard questions - about us as a human race and about the world around us. In the Huntress thrillers that is exactly what happens and you get a banging brilliant, addictive crime story right along with that.
Overall I can't do anything except highly recommend these (start from the beginning if you've missed them so far) because they are never anything less than immersive, intelligent and beautifully written. Fiction is stranger than fact is stranger than fiction.
Try one. I dare you. Then you'll be on a binge read to catch up with the rest. I almost guarantee it.

I could not finish book
I have read all the huntress books and have enjoyed them..this book was SO politically slanted that I could not finish it..I read this series because I enjoyed the suspense and characters. I didn't expect to get preached to about the current political environment or about how evil our current president is...those things should be kept on the op-ed pages not in a suspense novel

Roarke is back at the FBI and his first case threatens to compromise the values he thought he just straightened in his mind. Bitch has targeted college campuses around the country, but something deeper seems to be happening at UC Santa Barbara where Roarke and Epps investigate a crime at a fraternity. Meanwhile, Cara is being hunted by Ortiz and his fellow misogynistic trolls.
I am still loving this series! Things are getting complicated as Roarke’s team of FBI agents are forced to question their ethical beliefs given the chain of events in the nation that Cara set off two books ago. I could have done without some of the political claims the author makes despite agreeing with certain points. It’s telling that I don’t mind if a character has strong political views and voices them, but when the author is blatantly saturating the text with his own political beliefs, I feel uncomfortable. I guess I don’t like being “told” what to think politically even if I agree with a lot of what was said. Perhaps I am just more sensitive given the lingering craziness of the last election. I am still loving this series! Things are getting complicated as Roarke’s team of FBI agents are forced to question their ethical beliefs given the chain of events in the nation that Cara set off two books ago. I could have done without some of the political claims the author makes despite agreeing with certain points. It’s telling that I don’t mind if a character has strong political views and voices them, but when the author is blatantly saturating the text with his own political beliefs, I feel uncomfortable. I guess I don’t like being “told” what to think politically even if I agree with a lot of what was said. Perhaps I am just more sensitive given the lingering craziness of the last election. Hopefully, the author got a big dose out of his system and the next book will have fewer politics.

Hunger Moon is raw, powerful, blood pumping, and in your face.
I will start this review for Hunger Moon by Alexandra Sokoloff by saying that I took way to many notes and would spoil the book if I shared them all. I loved it so much, and I got so carried away because my emotions were running riot, that I feel like ranting and railing.
I love that we have action from the opening pages and I would recommend passing by the girl with the dark hair and backpack, if your intentions are evil.
Cara Lindstrom is the only survivor of her family’s brutal massacre. That is when she met IT, EVIL. Her stints in foster homes and group homes, brought her to where she is today, a vigilante serial killer, defender of women and children unable to defend themselves.
She is a force to be reckoned with. She is deadly. But right now, she is quiet, listening, waiting to be told what to do next. She will need to lay low, but where. Her face is everywhere and it is not just the law that is after her. Every pervert within internet range will have heard of the reward by now. Indian reservations have been a haven to her before and a belief there is more out there than meets the eye is a big part in her life.
It is February, the month of the Hunger Moon, and Special Agent Matthew Roarke is still haunted by Cara. They have a special connection, and whether he admits it or not, he is in love with this vigilante serial killer. She makes me eat up the pages, hoping that Cara doesn’t get caught or hurt, but I am afraid of what the future holds in store for her. How can there be a happy ending?
All over the country, universities are being targeted for Title IX violations. The people are fed up with the lily white one percenters protecting their own and covering up the brutal gang rapes of innocent young women. Who will stand up and speak for those who can’t?
Alexandra Sokoloff has incorporated today’s political climate of hate. In Hunger Moon, she shows how easily it is for those protecting their own to proclaim protesters as domestic terrorists. The book is so frightening, because I, too, feel a change in the United States that I never thought would happen. How can we possibly ignore it, even in a novel?
I rarely talk politics and I know most authors avoid it, but Alexandra Sokoloff makes her books so real because she does not avoid the ugliness and I revel in it. I love when my blood boils and I want to punch someone. So much of her writing strikes home for me and I feel the characters anger, frustration, fear and terror, making it impossible for them to move on. Damaged…oh yeah! I rage for revenge for them and we all know what happens when people are backed into a corner with nothing left to lose.
Alexandra brings the internet and Dark net up front and center. I don’t think there is one of us out there who hasn’t heard how dangerous it can be in the cyber world and care must be taken.
As everything comes together for the finale, the forces of good and evil and those walk the line, I feel like puking at the depravity of these ?men? and how far they will go for their own pleasure.
I was shocked that I was able to pick up Hunger Moon by Alexandra Sokoloff as an Amazon freebie. I never would have thought that was possible because her books are off the charts. Five stars is not nearly enough, but that’s all I have! And the TV series, I am on pins and needles just thinking about it. Criminal Minds you will have some competition. She is currently working on Book 6, which she has planned to be the end of the series, but with the TV show in the works, I am hoping we have more.
I MUST HAVE MORE…AND SOON.

After the excellent Bitter Moon, I was eager to read Hunger Moon, the latest book in this high octane series.
This one is more political than the previous books and focuses on what is happening under the present administration in the USA today. Roarke and Lindstrom are now on different paths. Girls are being raped in colleges and the whole attitude around this culture is delved into pretty deeply here.
Meanwhile, Lindstrom has her own problems with an old enemy coming to the fore once again.
I don't want to say too much here as I'm aware of spoilers but this book is indeed a commentary on current attitudes from all sides whether on the right or wrong side of the law and how some are being driven to take matters into their own hands. For me personally this book wasn't as strong as previous books in the series. Whilst being very relevant, it is hard to ignore what is going on and it indeed it shouldn't be ignored but this just didn't hold my attention in the same way as previous books had. I will say though that Ms Sokoloff is very much on the money with her narrative and this book definitely had a message to convey.
Very often books in a series can be jumped into at any point, but here I would strongly advise reading the books in order to appreciate fully the continuing storylines. Whether there will be more to come I don't know but Ms Sokoloff has created a brilliant series and I've been singing about these books for a while! I don't do that often!!

I LOVE the Huntress series. I have definitely looked forward to each new book as it was released. I love the characters and especially Cara. I'm right there cheering her on to do what needs to be done and not get caught. I'm a law enforcement wife and former paralegal and sometimes the "constraints" of the law and the "civil rights" of the defendant are, in nice words, frustratingly hindering to actual justice.
So this fifth book of the series was anxiously anticipated. It was super disappointing to begin reading this book and just get hammered with the author's personal political views and, quite honestly, outright hatred for current duly elected officials. The last place I want to read about all the crap going on with the politics of our nation is in one of my favorite FICTION series.
I get it. I do. But the real monster of this series is not the guy in the White House. It's the collective "monster" that Cara lives to slay: the predators in our communities. The annihilation of all types of abuse is something we can ALL agree on.
I really don't want to stop reading this series but I'm absolutely not interested in reading the author's written cathartic exorcism of her political spleen.

This fabulous series just got better and felt frighteningly relevant with the current state of 'leadership' in the US and the impact that it could be having on the people in the forces pledged to support the leaders and laws of the land!
The 'Bitch' fightback is in full swing, more and more women are fighting back against the establishment. In addition to Roarke's conflict of interest with Cara, Epps and Singh both have to juggle with a profession v personal morals dilemma which adds more personal drama to an already explosive book. As always, the writing, pace, plot and characters are just brilliant - never an easy read, this literally had my stomach in knots and I'm already impatient to read the next in the series.

I am so disappointed with this, I was eagerly anticipating the next story in this series because I loved it and they have all been 5 Boundless Stars up until now. I personally feel like Sokoloff loaded this book with so much of her own personal biased political opinions, it just completely overshadowed the entire story. Not only that, it has put a clear date stamp on the story, instead of letting it be ambiguous to the early 21st century.
I love Sokoloff’s passion for women’s and children's rights and follow her on FB, so I understand her loathing of the current administrations. I get it. Had she just added a few political views in the book I would have been fine, but this story is plagued with them. It is like reading her own personal manifesto. I read to escape politics and the general crappiness going on in the world. Not that Sokoloff’s books are light and airy, but they are normally still an escape and I feel like I become more knowledgeable in the process.
I really hope on the next book Sokoloff goes back to her original formula and keeps the political opinions out or at least to a minimum. I am giving Hunger Moon 2 Boundless Stars.

I took quite a while before I wrote this review to see if my opinion would change and unfortunately it hasn't. I loved the prior books but the intent on this novel was to use the subject and characters to drive home the author's political feelings. She is absolutely in her right to do so and I am not arguing her point what so ever. I, as a reader and the paying public, have the right to not invest my time and money into it.
I look forward to the author's future work and will certainly give them an opportunity. Alexandra Sokoloff is a terrific author and her prior novels and the dynamic between the characters have been some of my favorite works as of late.
I'm simply not interested in the lecture.

Reading Hunger Moon by Alexandra Sokoloff was an absolute joy. Despite it being the fifth in the series and my first, I could pick the story up and run with it. When prominent universities become targets, FBI Agent Matthew Roarke can't help but think it's related to Cara Lindstrom.
I will definitely go back and read the series from the beginning. A fantastic read that I highly recommend. 4 stars.

I see that politics has entered the fray with this book. Since I'm not American none of that bothered me. In fact I heartily agreed with many of the sentiments. Thank you Ms Sokoloff for an outstanding series of books.

This is the 5th book in the series and I feel they are enhanced by reading them in order.
This book is set in the dystopian world of contemporary America, and the political background and context plays a huge role in the story. Cara and Roarke are back on separate paths both still fighting in their own ways against the predators of this world. Others from the previous books are also back, doing their thing, on both sides of the law.
I like the mixing in of supernatural beliefs and gritty and explicit action and reaction. I liked the heightened and frightening sense of being on a precipice of changes that are bigger than individuals and represent a real shift in society and morality. I also like that Agents Epps and Singh had a bit more focus on them and took a step into the heart of the story. However there were some things that didn't quite ring true and jarred against the characters previously depicted sense of right and wrong. There was also a feeling of over simplification -Men and privilege are evil, women are oppressed and victims unless fighting back, which grated on me slightly. Vigilantism is neither desirable nor the only way forward. Corruption is not inevitable.
This was a well written fast paced gripping tale with the different strands woven into a cohesive and credible whole. The fact that I have found it hard to write a review without touching on political views says something about this book too (Or maybe just about me). I really recommend this series.

This is the fifth book in the Huntress/FBI thriller books series, so if its the first one you pick up, there will be times when you are very confused and feel that you are missing part of the story. It does stand on its own, but I believe reading the others first would be better.
I wouldn't call this a murder mystery book as such, somewhat closer to urban fantasy in some ways. I honestly can't quite pin down what category this book would fit in. It is well written, engrossing and engaging. The story centers around two protagonists, male and female, one in law enforcement and the other a killer who only kills evil degenerate men.
As a woman, reading this book in this time, I felt my anxiety level constantly peaking. I had to keep putting it down, as the deliberate parallels to the current day political climate kept bringing back my own sense of feeling anxious and trapped and wanting to run as far away as possible to protect myself and my daughters. In that, I believe she will find a great many women who relate to her feelings. It does detract from the story itself, solely due to the reader being forced to set the book down and try to recenter. Perhaps in a few years, when hopefully all of this is behind us, this book will be easier to read. If you are a supporter of the current political agenda, you will very much despise this book.

Not enough stars for this author and her Huntress series. Each one leaves me wanting more and saying it's the best one. Now this one is beyond exemplary if there is such a thing. Sokoloff is one of the most accomplished writers and story-tellers. I couldn't put this book down! And I had to question my own character as I cheered for Cara, Jade, Bitch and women who are victims! Sokoloff didn't shy away from our current sick culture and she captures it with grit and insight.
I suggest starting with Book #1 but the books can be read as stand-alone. Yet each story does build upon the previous one.
OMG, I cannot imagine what's next. Kudos to a very, very talented author.

This is the 5th (and according to the author, penultimate) book in the Huntress series, about Cara Lindstrom, vigilante serial killer of rapists, and Matthew Roarke, the FBI agent who's been tracking her while secretly besotted with her. To understand this, you really need to have read the rest of the series in order. It begins with Cara in hiding, on Navajo land, quietly picking off hunters who use a loophole in the law to attack young women and get away with it.
Meanwhile the feminist political movement known as Bitch are growing in strength, using the imagery of Santa Muerte and the methods of Anonymous to spread the message that despite the elevation of a sexual predator to the presidency and abominable changes in US laws to protect the patriarchy, rape culture needs to end by any means necessary. Jade, the young prostitute rescued from the street life, has been growing in strength and skills and chooses to continue Lindstrom's killing campaign by targeting students in a fraternity house who are guilty of gang rape. And Tara Singh of the FBI is drawn in to the battle, and, disgusted by her work monitoring the evil online world of trolls and monsters, forced to choose a side.
I absolutely love this series, but it would not be for everyone - I've seen 1 star reviews from Trump apologists upset that this isn't a romance between Cara and Roarke, and angry that the author is using her series to promote a political agenda. Good on her, I say - no one is forcing you to read it. The writing is evolving with every book, the descriptions of the Californian/Arizonan scenery are stunning, and the conflicts of the central characters are very believable. The violence is graphic, but the punishment meted out to the bad guys very satisfying. Apparently this is being turned into a TV series, which I'd be interested to see - although a lot of the intensity would have to be turned down, so we'll see. Meanwhile, we just have to wait for the next book.

Apparently this is being turned into a TV series, which I'd be interested to see - although a lot of the intensity would have to be turned down, so we'll see. Meanwhile, we just have to wait for the next book.
Interestingly, the whole "Me Too" movement and toppling of large numbers of male celebrities and politicians for sexual misconduct (to use the polite but inadequate term) has exploded since this book would've been written, so it will be fascinating to see how Sokoloff handles this next time - perhaps a way to end the series on a hopeful note?

I finished reading this book a couple of weeks ago and have been thinking about writing this review ever since. I absolutely loved the first four books in this series and truly regarded Alexandra Sokoloff as a real find, although I suspect that she never realized she was lost. While I very much enjoyed this book, I do not believe that it is in quite the same class as the first four.
Several previous reviewers gave Hunger Moon a low rating because they felt that the book included too much of the current political situation. I absolutely disagree with this rationale. The political environment is part of the world in which we live. To ignore it, in a book focussing on sexual abuse and the rape culture in the US would have been ridiculous. That would have been very much like writing a novel focussing on immigration and ignore the preposterous nad dangerous behavior of the Traitor-in-Chief and his administration (oops, did I let one of my political views slip out?).
Back to the book. The primary concern that I had with Hunger Moon was Sokoloff's inability to smoothly incorporate the political environment and its impact, into the story. I had the sense that the book was completed and, as recent related events began to unfold, they were incorporated in the book. There were also some portions that dragged a bit, not horribly but enough that it was noticeable. And some elements of a couple of characters were exaggerated more than was believable, in my opinion.
It is important to note that I very much enjoyed Hunger Moon - four stars is, after all, a fine rating - and I look forward to future books in this series. As usual, I will leave the inclusion of a plot summary to others but I will note that the story was powerful, mostly believable, thought-provoking and a great read.

This is the first book I have read by Alexandra Sokoloff If this is any example of her other series I will not be picking it up. Hunger Moon is nothing more than a political commentary on the current president and the sexual abusive that comes from power men. (This is a book review not a debate)
The authors writing style was jagged jumping from character to character with very little transition causing me to wonder who was doing what the entire book. Book 1 or book 5 I always enjoy an author taking the time to update readers. Alexandra Sokoloff was unable to truly update readers without confusing them due to the excessively large amount of characters in the book.
The story didn't flow but felt as if she wrote parts seperate and than threw them all together in hopes the work worked.
The political commentary was heavy handed and almost unnecessary. I found both sides of the law lacking anyone who was redeeming characters. The world is filled with enough hate this story seem to keep that hate moving forward.
