He’s a vampire prince. She’s a human blood slave. They should be enemies… but uniting might be their only hope to prevent a supernatural war.
Annika never thought of herself as weak—until the day vampires murdered her parents and kidnapped her from our world to the hidden vampire kingdom of the Vale.
As a brand new blood slave, Annika must learn to survive her dangerous new circumstances… or face imminent death from the monstrous wolves prowling outside the Vale’s enchanted walls. But not all in the kingdom is as it appears, and when a handsome vampire disguised as a human steps into her life, Annika discovers that falling for the enemy is sometimes too tempting to resist.
Especially when becoming a vampire might be her only chance to gain the strength she needs to escape the Vale.

Entertaining, although nothing special. Quite forgettable.
It is a very short and light read. It would have benefitted of a more in-depth character development. As it happens so often, a story with potential is left behind because it doesn't achieve the right balance between action/plot development and the very essential character building. In this book, we know about the characters, but we don't really know them, not enough to connect with them and to care. I did like that the story ended up being an Aladdin retelling, I didn't know that it would be when I decided to read it. It changed my perspective on what I had read and made me appreciate it more, as well as made intrigued about where the story is going to go.
While out skiing with her family Annika gets her first glimpse into the supernatural world when her parents and brother are attacked and killed by vampires. The vampires then take Annika hostage to the hidden vampire kingdom of the Vale where she is kept as a human blood slave to provide food for the vampires.
Jacen was also taken by the vampires against his will but unlike Annika who still remains human Jacen was turned against his wishes and now fights his desire to kill for blood. Once he gets a bit of control Jacen sneaks into the human village pretending that he is not a vampire to try to find some normalcy when he runs into Annika and is immediately taken with her.
The Vampire Wish is the beginning of a new young adult paranormal/fantasy series by Michelle Madow. Along with learning of the vampire kingdom and their royalty there are also witches, magic and werewolves involved in the story. As with any Michelle Madow read the story is rather fast paced but very easy to follow along as the world and character building is taking place.
When finishing this one I'd say my only complaint is that this first book is rather short and it seemed as soon as I got really invested in the story and characters the story has ended leaving a wait to find out just what will happen next. Even with as many stories out there with this formula of vampires, werewolves, witches and the humans surviving in these worlds the story was unique enough and the characters likable enough that I'll definitely be looking forward to the next installment of the series this fall.
Book starts with the protagonist seeing her entire family (mom, dad, brother) brutally murdered by vampires during a family vacation on the ski slopes.
Erm. Now having actually lost a loved one (husband died suddenly in November), storylines like this are extremely difficult to take. And not because they're triggering (they can be!), but because it is obvious that the writer hasn't actually gone through anything remotely resembling a loss like this, let alone watching MULTIPLE loved ones die at once.
I get that it's a plot device. We need an isolated heroine so no one is out searching for her while she goes to live in a secret vampire coven. But it would be nice if plot devices could at least feel well-researched. Perhaps some sensitivity readers would be helpful here so that the loss feels real. Because it absolutely doesn't.
This colored the entire story. Lip service sadness as the protagonist misses her family doesn't actually translate into what living with untreated PTSD from an event like this would look like. Grief does not change or affect her in realistic ways.
*Chris Evans voice* Ha ha ha ha.... That's actually hilarious.
Anyway, this was.... not good but in a very enjoyable way. The characters are pretty flat, the opener is so absurd I laughed out loud, Leila offered nothing, and I imagine they all speak with Canadian accents because this super special secret vampire haven called Vale is in Canada! Dracula, but he's Canadian and all that lol.
Jacen pulled what Edward Cullen does in Twilight for some absolutely bizarre reason, where he was basically like, "No, Annika, you don't want to be a vampire! Because then your soul will go to HELLLLL!!!>:( " Truly, I don't know why this is such a motivator. As a non-Christian, if literally the only thing that is supposed to deter me from becoming a vampire is Hell, then guess who's getting a new pair of chompers. 😁 🧛♀️
I will also say, though, that even though the final act that was the most original way I've ever seen
Since I own the whole series I probably will read the next one, but no promises (or threats) that I will finish the series.
This review will be short. A lot of things didn't make any sense. I didn't like the main lead girl. The main lead guy wasn't that bright either. The cliffhanger ALMOST got me, because things could get interesting. But I started thinking, this one was super short and it took me long enough to finish it. Should I go through all the trouble and get disappointed again?
So lately I’ve been feeling a strong desire to read vampire books and this first in a series, The Vampire Wish, looked very promising. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I wasn’t disappointed. I love the idea of a hidden vampire city and a human wanting to become stronger than she is even if it means wishing to become one of those blood sucking leeches.
I adore Annika. While she’s a bit naïve, which is understandable, she is emotionally tough—considering the turmoil of losing her family and being stuck as livestock (makes me think of Seraph of the End lol) for the vampires.
As for the romance, it seemed more so infatuation to me. I didn’t really see the spark between Annika and the prince but I’ll wait and see. Anyways, the ending has me excited to continue to book two.
That all said, this could have had a lot more potential to be more in depth and gritter than it was. I think third person perspective could have fulfilled that (but I'm biased because I always prefer third person).
I really enjoyed this book. It had many different types of supernatural characters in it. Loved the bond between the main characters. Hope that they get back to it and it's not left there. I think he truly cares about her and cant show it. Cannot wait for the next book.
Actual Rating: 3.5 Stars! Same Review Also Posted In My Blog: Dreamy Addictions
The Vampire Wish is a very unique read! It's a twilight meets Aladdin! I love Twilight and Aladdin! I've never read an Aladdin retelling but I've read some twilight retellings so I was very eager to get into this story since I read its intriguing synopsis. Well, Is it as amazing as it sounds? Sadly, no. I enjoyed the story but I didn't love it as much as I expect to. I've had few issues with the plot execution and characters which hindered some of my enjoyment. I'm not saying it wasn't good because it's really an entertaining read if you're looking for something short fun tale. I know a lot of people who loved it though, so my issues could be on my side.
The book starts with Annika skiing with her family but suddenly her whole world turns upside down, when vampires appears out of nowhere and kills them. Now Annika is the blood slave in an hidden enchanted kingdom called vale which is ruled by vampires. It's been a year since her family's murder and she finally learned to live as a blood slave. Escaping from vale is pretty much impossible because outside the Kingdom's walls is surrounded by wolves who'll kill them if they cross the walls that protects them. Annika doesn't want to be a submissive slave so she rebels against them by stealing food from them which is not intended for a blood slave. One night, when a handsome guy shows interest in her, Annika gets intrigued by him but she doesn't know he's a vampire prince disguised as a human. When he bolts after seeing the vampire guards, Annika believes that he's in some kind of trouble so she helps him escape from them but later learns that he's actually a vampire Prince. Eventually she realizes that he's not cruel like the other vampires but getting attracting to your enemy is too tempting to resist. Annika always hated being so powerless and vulnerable, she thinks becoming a vampire might give her enough strength to escape Vale but turning a blood slave into a vampire is highly forbidden in vale and also a death sentence.
The story mainly follows three characters but I can't seem to connect with any one of them. Annika, our aladdin in the story is a brave, stubborn, smart, and rebellious girl who wouldn't go down without a fight. Jacen, the vampire prince is the jasmine of our story. He is pretty much complex character who hates being a Vampire. To be honest, he seemed like an okay-ish character but he didn't impressed me yet. He's a newly turned vampire prince who has finally learned to control his thirst for blood. He always wanted to escape the castle walls and explore the kingdom of Vale. One day, he succeeds using his mind power and he then meets Annika who catches his attention and the attraction is mutual. I was disappointed with the romance in this book because it felt fast-tracked. It's definitely felt like insta-love and I hate insta-love. I wish there was more interactions before they develop feelings for each other. If you don't have issue with insta-love then you might enjoy it more than I did. Camelia, Queen Lailah's adviser is the Jafar in our story. She's a cold and cunning witch who has some evil intentions and wants to marry Jacen. As a villain, I liked her, she perfectly fits his character. I also liked the Genie who appears at the end of book. Instead of a lamp, the Genie is trapped in something else. I'm not gonna spoil anymore for you, If you want to know more then read the book.
The plot is good but It mostly felt like Action driven plot but not a character driven. The pacing is fast and It would've been great if the book was longer because I felt everything happening so fast with no character development. Some parts of the romance reminded me of twilight which seemed way too cliche.“I don’t think you’re a monster,” she said softly. “I know you think you are, but you’re not. If you were… you wouldn’t be helping me right now.” I'm already familiar with the Aladdin's story so I have some idea how everything's gonna turn out in the end but I still found myself enjoying this story. I loved how the author retold the story with vampires, witches and shifters. The writing is captivating through out and I'm glad the story was told from multiple POV's. I liked the setting but I wish there was more world building in it. The story is actually set in a modern times but most of the times I forget. I feel like I was in fictional fantasy world not until the characters brings up their past which includes schools, family etc.
Overall, I liked it! The book finally concludes with a minor cliffhanger. Even though it didn't met all of my expectations, It's entertaining enough to hold our attention till the end and I would love to check out how the story follows in the next book.
Michelle Madow som naposledy čítala v roku 2016, keď vyšiel posledný diel jej (imho reálne dobrej) série The Secret Diamond Sisters.
Selekciou. I kid you not. Toto je upírska Selekcia.
Milujem to.

I recently read the Faerie Games (Michelle Madow's newest series) and LOVED it. I realized that there were other books with in the same world/ universe and decided to pick this up since it was the first one. I was excited when I read the blurb and recognized some names and reoccurring characters from the Faerie Games (so it was nice to go from a book hangover only to dive deeper into the same world.)
Back to this story. It gave me some Twilight vibes (which I heard the author is a huge fan of) mixed with a Shade of Vampire. The big difference is I think I am loving this story a lot more! I am a sucker for a Prince, forbidden love, and kingdom politics. I also love multiple POV. The main POV focused around Annika but I like that this author sprinkles in the hero's and the villain's POV.
I am enjoying this story so much, I can't wait to see how Annika's story unravels. I am already determined to read this whole series and continue on with the next series with in this world.
The author has a great way of taking a unique spin on paranormal entities and characters so even traditional types of supernatural beings (vampires, etc.) feel like new creations on her pages. Her lead female character is strong, and Annika's romance with Jacen intense. Readers who love Alys Arden's The Casquette Girls and Cassie Clare's Shadowhunters Chronicles should enjoy this compelling tale - and like me, be waiting excitedly for book two!
Super average book and a little annoyed at how the author has NO build up with Camilla's plan. Instead of showing Jason finding out what really happened, she just tells us all at once. Kinda ruins the creepy plot feeling
I truly enjoyed The Vampire Wish! The novel has memorable characters and a great plot. All in all just fabulous storytelling! My wife finished the novel first, and though she likes watching tv shows and movies with Vampires, she has never gotten into novels about them...until now! She was thoroughly absorbed in the story and characters and can't wait to read the next book!
Thanks to the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review, This doesn't in any way influence my opinion on it.
Michelle Madow has always been an author whose books I always look forward to and she's written another wonderful book. Vampires is a very tricky subject in YA because it's not quite easy to pull it off but Michelle Madow has done so in the most graceful and brilliant way. It's just as great as other popular Paranormal YA books yet differs enough to be special. Annika and Jacen are really compelling characters whose story is very easy to get into. Annika is one girl who has gone through a LOT, from having her family murdered in front of her to immediately becoming a blood slave in the kingdom of the vampires Vale. Jacen is a Vampire Prince who was turned against his will by the Original Vampire Queen Laila. Through a series of both fortunate and unfortunate events, this two individuals meet each other. Their meeting sets in motion a lot of events that changed both their lives forever and revealed things about their life that they never knew. Annika is a strong character because she's had a lot of sad stuff happen to her and yet she was never truly broken by it all. Having friends in the Vale did help her cope but she still has an inner strength that is admirable. Jacen has the most complicated life in the book. While he is bound to his sire Laila, He hates what she's turned him to and the life of a vampire Prince he has. Him learning control over his bloodlust and his situation was very great to read about. The further explorations of his connection with Annika was quite interesting, their feelings for each other still rings true despite it being instantaneous. The traits of the vampires is well plotted and enough original ideas is blended with the plot still making it feel refreshingly original. The Vampire Wish has all the trademarks that made The Vampire Diaries and Twilight fan favorites. Vampires also aren't the only supernatural creatures in it, Witches, Werewolves, Angels and Nephilims are also involved though not all made an appearance in the first book. There was very intriguing twists and turns towards the ending that was very entertaining and I didn't see coming which also elevated the quality of the book. The ending was exciting and has set up the plot for what is beginning to look like an interesting book 2. The Vampire Wish is a must have, any YA Paranormal fans will find themselves devouring this enchanting book. Michelle Madow has made her fans proud yet again with another fantastic book from her.
First of all, I just want to say thank you to Michelle Madow for giving me an ARC of this book to read in exchange for an honest review. No compensation was given, offered, or taken to alter the opinion.
I always look forward to reading Michelle Madow's books and she has written another wonderful book! When I heard she was writing a vampire series, I just knew I had to get my hands on it. I am a vampire loving lady. With that being said, it's hard to find an original vampire story these days and that is exactly what Michelle has done here!! I loved this book and I just couldn't put it down. This book follows three different point of views: Annika, Jacen, and Camelia. I loved when I figured out the reasoning behind the name of this book. I can't wait for the next installment in this series!
I received an ARC copy in exchange for my honest review. I read Ms Madow's Elementals series with bated breath and can't thank her enough for giving me the opportunity to read this new exciting series hot off the press, so to speak!! This time we've moved to the world of werewolves, vampires and other supernatural beings. It's hard to get a new take on this genre but Ms Madow definitely manages it. It's fast-paced, getting off to a gripping start. Annika is a normal teenager, enjoying a carefree break with her family. All that dramatically changes when she witnesses her family's brutal murder at the hands of vampires. Our heroine is spared but only to become a blood slave for those vampires. Jacen was also once a normal teenager. Like Annika, his life is turned upside down- he becomes a Vampire Prince, sired by the Vampire Queen no less. Something he finds hard to get used to. A chance meeting and their lives become interwined. It's Romeo and Juliet all over again!! Will they get away from their infernal existence? Our author weaves a tangled web with unexpected twists and turns, leaving you wanting more. Recommended for those who have withdrawal symptoms after Twilight and Vampire Diaries and need a'Fangtastic' fix!!!!
Read this with my 16 year old son who gave it 4/5 stars. His review, “Anything mixed with Twilight is better than Twilight.” We both loved that the main character is driven more by revenge than love. We like the Aladdin mixes, we both hated the lack of character. Other than Mega Athlete + Revenge, the characters and blank slates for people to self impose on…
Still very fun story… especially if you’re each reading roles allowed or taking turns, etc. There was a lot of fun in our family reading this book. We do plan on reading the next.
Somehow, I just can't bring myself to give it four stars. It was good, but it was over too quickly. The ending could have used a little more originality. Hope book two is better.
Amazing book! I love the plot, the words the book used... It's more like a fairy-tale, but with the vampires and paranormal romance, this book is extraordinary!
Not the best and not the worst. But I did enjoy it aside from one or two gripes. If you’re looking for a quick read to pass the time and don’t care for any in-depth story telling with passable plots and characters, then this is your book.
The biggest takeaway from The Vampire Wish is the amount of things that happen and we don’t see them happen. Characters are constantly spewing out long bits of exposition, internal expository dialogue, taking in past-tense about a scene or act that just happen off screen, or telling telling telling EVERYTHING. Show Don’t Tell is the biggest crime from this book. So many interesting scenes could’ve been included but instead we have to suffer through Annika or Camelia or even Jacen going on and on about X just happened instead of showing us X taking place.
I think the biggest example of thing is Camelia giving Annika her a deal/ultimatum about the Sapphire ring. Instead of showing us that dialogue between the two about what Camelia wanted Annika to do in the crystal cavern, it ends with Annika saying “...then she told me what she wanted me to do...” then it cuts to a new chapter where it immediately picks up after with “...After Camelia explained what she needed from me...”. !!!! Ugh stuff like this is littered all throughout the book! And it’s unfortunate because the story isn’t bad at all. Everything happens so fast because of this to the point where it feels like things are missing.
It’s not a bad book. Ive seen where people say it’s a Twilight rip and I’d say to that: meh. It’s not. Vampires are popular so I can’t say it rips off Twilight aside. Is it modern day vampires? Sort of? I think I had trouble distinguishing whether or not this was a wholly fantasy setting or completely modern. I think it’s a point between the two.
But it’s no Twilight rip. Now Aladdin (yes, Aladdin) on the other hand...
The characters are to be expected from a YA vampire novel. Brooding, moody vampire hunk with (and I quote) “...a body of an Olympic swimmer and is over 6 foot...” and your ‘plain-Jane’ brown-haired heroine who “isn’t impressive” to anyone except the vampire hunk. I was and wasn’t surprised to see them not-but-sorta-kinda fall in love right away
They’re fine and I’m curious to see characters, then this is your book.

I think the most interesting characters are Jacen and Camelia. Though her motives are completely known yet, her parts of the story are the most interesting. Same with Jacen. IMO he conquered his bloodlust a little too fast. It would’ve been more interesting to see him fighting with it while being with Annika knowing he’s attracted to her. So I’m wondering if it’ll come back in the picture.
