And as autumn ended,
And the storms came and went,
One day the leaf looked around,
and up and down,
and saw...

He was the last leaf on the tree.

Except for one.

On the very end
of the branch above him,
So far away
that he hadn’t even see her before,
Lived one more leaf.

He looked at the big tree,
and the bare branches,
and the cold ground so far below.
He felt the icy winds
gathering in the north.
And he gathered his own courage
And called to her....

“Hello!” he shouted.

“Hello!” she yelled back.
“Isn’t it a beautiful day!”

He looked at the bare branches,
and the cold ground and the stormy
skies, and answered,
“No!”

“No?”
she called back.

“No!” he shouted.
“The tree is bare,
and the ground is cold,
and the sky is grey!”

“But we’re alive!” she said.
“Can’t you feel it?”
