The Disturbing History Saga - Inspired by actual events
The insidious seduction of a college bound girl by a hell-bent abuser…
At fifteen, Mary Lou Poche is known in her small town of Houma, Louisiana for her profound beauty and intelligence. She and her best friend Gayle Gautreau believe their futures are as bright as the Southern sun. On September 6th, 1958, Mary and Gayle strike out on their first adventure to the fall festival—alone—where they meet a mysterious psychic who sends Mary reeling from the revelation of events that will affect her for years to come. In the reading, the psychic speaks of secret keys that will unlock Mary's safety and of a difficult choice between two men. The Creole psychic woman says, "Choose de right one an' you will know peace and success ... choose de wrong one an' you will suffer in bondage many a year." Is the reading purely whimsical entertainment ... or a frightening glimpse of things to come?
Author Kami Boley was born in Houma, Louisiana, in 1973. At a young age, she discovered a deep passion for books and writing. As a young adult, she put that dream on hold to devote her time and energy to working as a cosmetologist so she could provide for a new love in her life, her daughter, Kirstie. Now that Kirstie is grown, Kami is ready to share her stories through Boley Books LLC.
I enjoyed this book. It was very well written. I love books that include real world places and details. She nailed the Cajun slang, Louisiana landscape, and 1950's experience. The girls are very endearing and tangible as people. You are transported into their world. My only issue is that I need to know what happens next! Please finish Part 2, ASAP :) This is an accomplished work for a debut author.
There are hints given through the plot that lead the reader to conclude a great tragedy will occur. However the characters seem so real that it's hard to believe that anything so serious could happen in their lives. The author captures their everyday life, dreams, hopes, fears, and weaves them into a moving story. Only the next tale will tell.
I finished this book in 13 hours.... I loved it! One disturbing part upset me, but it was brief and I was happy details were left out. Kami's writing style is incomparable, and I was captivated from page one. I have so many conclusions on these characters that I had to write them down. I can't wait for book 2 to be released and to have it signed next weekend!
The fact that the book contained Louisiana history made me interested to read the book. As the story unfolds, you will find yourself immersed in characters that are relatable. The author keeps you wondering what will happen next. Don't be surprised if you read it in one sitting!
