The Vampire King

Rate this book
When vampires and werewolves wage war in the shadows, only a monster who knows the worst of both worlds can protect the innocent from the crossfire.

Cephas woke up ten years ago without any memory of who he was or the life he once led, but he's always known what he is: a hunter. As a vampire-werewolf hybrid, Cephas shouldn't even exist, but he makes the most of his exile status by preying on the monsters who harm innocents. The hunt gives him a mission, a purpose, but when it leads him into the arms of a beautiful vampire king as cruel as he is seductive, the hunter becomes the hunted.

Captured to be studied for his impossible dual nature, Cephas discovers that torture is just the beginning of what Alesandre has in store. The Vampire Court is full of broken and bloody threads, and pulling any one of them might unravel a past that neither man is prepared to face. As Cephas is drawn into a spiral of vampire politics, an ancient war and his own broken memories, Alesandre will either be his downfall or the key to his hidden origins. Or, like, Cephas himself, a bit of both.

Warnings: This is the first book in a continuing serial. It contains graphic violence and sexual content and is intended for mature audiences only.

This story reminds me WAY too much of Jex Lane's Beautiful Monsters series (Captive is Book 1). I mean--SO much that it's like a fraternal twin--alike, but not exactly, and definitely closely related!

It also echoes parts that I kind of disliked... the whole being attracted to the one who has imprisoned you, put you literally in collar and chains, and tortures and tries every way they can to kill you (knowing you cannot die, but still playing around with it to the max). UGH!!! It's not even Stockholm-ish, since they were already attracted before, and all the torturing does nothing to change it. OK... well he DOES sort of want revenge and escape, but whenever he's nearby, he just melts!

I don't mind that so much, although it's idiotic and annoying... It's that the object of lust is just a irredeemably horrible person for delighting in torture, and so wanting to be with that person reflects on the other MC... and it makes me feel pretty wrong in reading a book featuring such a character and a character who seems to be able to look beyond torture and extreme sadism (it was clear that the the character enjoyed what he was doing).

OK... enough said about that. Usually a book will be a sad copy of another. This one... actually is still a good read. Maybe it's because it's a copy of something that proved to be popular and a good read... but it does rather hold up on its own. I'm not sure what to think. I may have to read more...!

I really hope it starts to go its own way, plot and character-wise. I mean, I've already read those other books!!! If I wanted to read them again, I could just do that. I want something maybe LIKE that (because it was good), but still different enough to not continually be reminded of that other book.

There is a cliff-hanger ending, although it also ends at a sub-story arc (again, like the Jex Lane books). It stops in a decent place, though. Still mid-story, but that's the way it goes with a continuous story divided into parts type of series.

Good reading

Fast pace action and treason that keep me awake the entire night. I expect the king to be nicer in the next book.

Drawn into their world

This was a fantastic story that sucked me into the world of the book and kept me hooked through the end. There is so much going on that it would be impossible to tell you the best parts without spoiling the book. There are so many questions that are left unanswered that I immediately looked for the next book (not out yet) but in no way detracts from the story. It was very well written.

I started this book for 2 reasons. I love a vampire/wolf hybrid and it reminded me of the Beautiful Monster series by Jex Lane. I have a love/hate thing with that series due to the characters and the way the MC was treated so I thought this would be similar but at the same time it would be what that series should've been. It wasn't. It was literally the same, innocent guy getting seduced then captured by the 1 he somehow developed strong feelings for in a short amount of time. Being tortured and treated like shit then calling everyone Master or Sir like he's a fucking pet for NO REASON AT ALL. I don't like Alesandre. He's a spoiled, shallow, callous brat playing grownup.

Literally the only persons I liked were Caius and Cephas. I was rooting for them, not fucking Cephas and Alesandre. It was fucking pathetic how Cephas kept pining after him and kept wanting to protect him. If I saw even just a little bit of affection from Alesandre for Cephas after he was captured then I would've continued the series buttttt I didn't and nothing turns me off more than a cold hearted son of a bitch who the MC is destined to end up with. I'm just very protective of my main character and in this case he deserves fucking better than that cunt of a king. I really wish things turned out differently because I wanted to like this book. Sadly I can't get past Alesandre and the fact that Cephas is so smitten he'd forgive him even if he slaughtered and fed from human babies. But that might just be me.

Cephas was TSTL plus emotionally weak. Alejandre was egotistical, sadistic and irrational. There was no method to his madness. The plot was illogical and senseless. The ending was a cliffhanger.

This book was really a prisoner torture story with a little bit of consensual gay sex. It was not a Master/slave story. There was no romance. There were no mates. There was no Stockholm Syndrome. It was just a gay paranormal HORROR book.

What a pointless, badly developed story. I'm not sure what was the point of this story. There was no romance and the story was full of torture and drama. What a disappointment.

This book was GREAT. Like “I cant stop reading it” great. Like “I need the 2nd part” great.

Well, fuck me sideways for finding this gem so late in the game. The author had to take down the 2nd book because, apparently, some people bitched that it looked to similar to the Beautiful Monsters series. The author swears that they dint copy anybody and that it was based on a roleplay? (Idk i don’t remember) from ages ago. It does look and feel similar but who cares?? There are hundred of books like this one and that one! I personally have read quite a few of them.

I have read thousands of books that are similar to other books. This happens a lot to a bunch of creators. Specially if the author in question reads a lot of books. Things can blend and bury themselves into your subconscious. What are we going to do? Ban all works that have a love triangle because they look like the thousand love triangles in books out there? No more vampire books after twilight! No more “bdsm” books after 50 shades of grey (i put bdsm in quotes because...no).

I am so mad. I despise cliffhangers EXACTLY because of this. See? This is W H Y. The author could grow bored of the series, the author could take their sweet, sweet time, some ass can come out of the woods and say the author copied something vaguely resembling another author’s work and they never release anything related to that series ever again, etc.
You can make a story interesting without relaying on cliffhangers. If, for some reason, you can’t finish the series, all you will do is piss off your readers.
If the 2nd book of this series is never released and its left hanging, you better believe I will be furious if the author stars a new series (which I doubt anyways) and I won’t read it.

I would like to point out that this whole debacle was 2 years ago. I am not holding any hope that the author will ever release the 2nd book.

PS: I am not saying this is entirely the author’s fault. But they do share some of the blame for not, at least, releasing a short story detailing how the story would have ended if they never had any plans on releasing a full book.

Cephas is a hybrid wolf/vampire and a hunter. He hunt and killed every supernatural creature who kills human. One night, at a bar, he meet a beautiful vampire. Alesandre , the vampire, seduced and drug Cephas.
Cephas becomes a prisonner, tortured by Alesandre , who is the vampire's king.
For weeks, Cephas was the prisonner, the pet, until he found a way to escape from his jail.
I liked Cephas, he is a complex character, but not too much. I love his ampathie, his high morality, his honesty. He isn't perfect, not at all, but he is perfectly conscious of that, and I loved that.
The author created interesting characters, not only Cephas or Alesandre, but also Gaius, Nolan Adrian.
The plot is interesting and I was hooked from the start. I like the fact that the story isn't manichean at all. Each character is both victim and executioner. There are no good versus bad ones.
It was a enjoyable reading
I look forward for the next book now.

i really appreciate this book... the story.. the characters.. and I will read the second one because I want to know what will happen but I gave it a 4 stars because I really don't understand the love story.

Cephas is really strong, he's a warrior and I don't understand why he will love a guy who is really mean and crazy... I think because of the Cephas really lost what makes him someone who's strong. Alesander is very evil and he just want power and he just used Cephas.

So I will wait for the next one and I will maybe understand.

PS I really think Cephas should be with Gaius ❤

Great story, although lacking in the world building aspect, I wasn't sure where/when things were occurring at times. Cephas is an interesting MC because I was always left wondering what more there was to him, I kept waiting for his personality to really break through but not in this first book, maybe next one? There is a lot of scheming going on and towards the end I was hoping they would reveal who was actually telling the truth about what. I am intrigued to find out where the author goes with all the loose ends left.

Although I gave this book a 4 star rating, due to the quality of the writing and the fact that it kept me engaged, I did not like either of the main characters. Alesandre was a cruel and selfish asshole. Cephas is a disappointing hero in that he allows himself to be so easily manipulated. Because of my extreme dislike of both characters, I won't be reading any sequels in this series as I don't really care what happens to either of them.

Not really a romance

This is one of those books that 's really hard to label. They listed it as romance for me but it's more urban fantasy with so e great sex scenes and unrequited live. Cebas the mc is kind of sweet and a little dense. Everyone else well...they're jerks. Actually Giaus is decent. Still the writing is good, and the plot did come together although it felt meandering at times.

Lies and deception

This story is filled with so many layers of deception you will miss one of the many twists in the story. Cephas does not know who he is. Is he a vampire or a werewolf. He is not accepted by either but feels a strong compulsion to save humans from either side. Cephas is kidnapped, tortured, used and lied to. One is certain Cephas is more important in this ongoing feud than he thinks. Can't wait until the next installment!

Good book. It did remind me of Captive but only as far as the tortured hybrid theme went, after that it became its own thing. Be warned that if you're looking for romance, this is not a romance nor is it advertised as such. It's really a paranormal horror with gay characters. As a gay man I was happy about that as I'm tired of only getting representation in romance -- but YMMV. A little too gory for me though.

THIS BOOK SO GOOD

I loved it from start to finish! So intriguing, the storyline is really awesome. My favourite character is definitely Gaius! I low key ship him and Cephas more then Alesandre and Cephas hahaha but I'd be happy either way it goes! I'm excited to see the softer, more real side to Alesandre in the next book mainly just so I don't hate him so much! lool

I need to next book asap!

I wasn't all that fond of the main characters. Cephas was basically a good guy but his sexual and emotional interest in Alesander was a bit hard to digest. I mean, there is probably a reason why he was so drawn to the Vampire King even though Alesander was such a freaking asshole. I had a hard time sympathizing with Cephas, I just wanted him to get the fuck out of the vampire castle and find a real nice man for himself. But no, he was some kind of masochistic guy and just felt a very weird feeling of protectiveness toward Alesander and it was bit frustrating. I mean, in this book, Alesander is just a sadistic mad bastard. The torture and torture methods were just awful. No redeeming qualities.

I liked Gaius though, he was not like his brother. He's a fierce guy, not too serious but determined. I wish Cephas was more attracted to him. I kind of hope he will end up with him. He's waaaay better and nicer than Alesander.

We don't really learn more about Cephas and his mysterious origins though, I was a bit disappointed about that.
Cephas is in a world of shit and it will not be a walk in the park to get a peaceful life.

I constantly made comparisons to Captive.
It's not a carbon copy, but there are a lot of similarities. I wasn't as engrossed in this one, but it did grow on me more and more. I had a harder time understanding Cephas loyalty to someone who tortured him. Now, if it had been for Gaius, I could understand it more. I'm interested enough to continue on in the series. I just hope for more Gaius.
