In Shanora, bringing artistic creations to life is as good as a prison sentence. Artists hide their ability to avoid a life confined to the palace, forced to work for the Emperor while being threatened by the officers. For Aggie, breathing life into art is an itch she can’t wait to scratch, but for Flicker, it’s a curse he wishes he were never born with.
For years, Shanora has been under threat from hostile neighbours who are poised to attack and overthrow the Emperor. The Artists are his only salvation; they are all that stands in the way of defeat and destruction.
But with the Emperor remaining hidden behind closed doors and the city on permanent lockdown, what’s really going on inside the palace? What truth is there to the rumours of lies and deceit? And how has the Emperor been alive for hundreds of years?
Vicky was born in North Yorkshire, which will always be her one true home. She studied English Language at Lancaster, then completed a masters degree in Object Conservation at Durham University.
An objects conservator by trade, she enjoys everything history related and loves the fact that she has been able to help restore some of the most amazing objects in Britain. She has dabbled in sword fighting, knife throwing, and kickboxing. Vicky is also a keen baker and loves baking treats for her friends and family.
This book captivated me from the beginning. I loved the characters and I felt like I was right there in the story with them. I'm excited to read more from this author!
People who live in Shanora may have the ability to bring artistic creations to life, they are called ‘Artists’. If the officer finds out they have this ability, they will be arrested and forced to work for the Emperor in the Palace. While the Emperor remains hidden behind closed doors, the group of artists who wanted to escape is now wondering what’s going on inside the Palace. The secret is unrevealed while the artists attempt to run away. I received the book back in 2017 in a Goodreads giveaway, but just had the time to read it. I enjoyed reading this book very much! Lots of surprises in every chapter.
This book was a great refresher from other fantasy books I've read. Sometimes fanatasy books can become monotonous with feeling like the same story is being told over and over. This story was a new concept for me and a lovely little book.
If you are in a book slump and love fantasy and magic I highly recommend this.
If you want something fresh and new check this book out. It is like nothing I have read before. It's a good change from the normal fantasy or YA. It drags you in from the start and it's such a good read.
