Rate this book
Thirty years ago Byron Finch believed his best chance at love was stolen by another man. As the years unfolded, he realized that Gage Barlow found true love instead. Byron's life unfolded successfully by almost anyone's standards. He was the successful owner and designer of BF, a top level fashion design firm, and he lived in a stunning condominium overlooking the city of San Francisco. He had everything but a man at his side.

Gage's life was much more modest, but he was happy and fulfilled until tragedy struck just one year ago. His husband Ross fell victim to cancer leaving Gage grief-stricken and alone with the couple's rescue dog Durango. When his thirty-year college class reunion arrived, he knew that Ross would want him to attend.

Decades have passed, but the attraction is still strong when Byron and Gage cross each other's paths again at Wilson Ridge State College. Can love strike twice for Gage, and can Byron be given a second chance?

Silver Foxes is a stand-alone second chance, friends to lovers gay romance novel with steamy scenes, no cliffhangers, and a happily ever after ending.

Not Quite What I was Expecting

I was very excited to read this book about an older gay couple finding each other at a class reunion. It didn’t quite meet my expectations. First of all, the idea that you would still have strong feelings for someone you slept with casually 30 years ago was ridiculous. My second problem was Gage. I just didn’t like him very much. He dumped Byron in the beginning and then he was just such a tease when they reconnected. The writing was good and the story was fine. This was my first book by this author, but I’ll certainly check out other books by him.

DNF @ 14%.

Breaking of the fourth wall, typos, a dash of fat phobia… and the a passage being repeated:

Suddenly, I heard warmth and affection in Annie’s voice. “Ah, Skeets. I’m so glad you still have him with you. […] Thinking about how sweet he is makes me want to jump on a plane to San Francisco. Is he still a skinny boy with those awesome tats?”

And the immediate next paragraph reads:

I could hear genuine affection in Annie’s voice when she said, “Ahh, Skeets. I’m so glad you still have him with you. It makes me almost want to jump on a plane to San Francisco just to see him. Is he still a skinny boy with those awesome tats?”

*** Byron and Gage. ***
A fashion designer and a teacher, who knew each other in college, but Gage had fallen for another guy, and so each moved on with their lives. Now, at 50 and 52, it's time for their 30th college reunion. This is an easy, read, with older characters who are established and set in life.

They are successful and know themselves well. Gage lost his longtime husband a year ago, and when he sees Byron, they both realize this may be a second chance. We get wonderful secondary characters and a smooth storyline. The men go to Mexico, Gage's Mom becomes ill, and it seems sweet, feasible and interesting. Their hot sexiness rounds off the lovely story.
ENJOY !

Nice later life romance

This is a nice gentle later life romance which also doubles as a second chance one as college friends Byron and Gage reconnect at their 30 year reunion.
There's not a lot of plot to this one, it's fairly low in both angst and steam but it's a sweet read with a nice story narrative and a couple of hot men finding love second time round.

3.5 Stars You Can Teach an Old Dog New Tricks

This is a second chance romance. College friends separated by thirty years reunite. A lot has gone on in the intervening years, as well as the time during their college years. They are very different men. Gage is a high school English teacher on the East coast while Byron is a renown fashion designer residing in San Francisco. Gage loved to travel with his husband and they had a very happy marriage until a sudden illness ends their life together.

Being grief stricken has been hard on Gage. His life had been spent with the man he loved. Being home wasn't comforting anymore. It was too full of memories. Trying to change things around helped a little, but the pain remained. His only solace are his teaching job and his twelve year old fuzzy dog, Durango.

A college reunion brings him and Byron together for a brief couple days. But it was enough to rekindle a flicker of friendship that could flame into more - if either man had the time, inclination and could get over his fear of rejection.

Luckily there are family members and friends who won't let the opportunity for a second chance pass Gage and Byron by. But interference from hotel mix-ups, to living locations, and family illness all conspire to challenge the belief as to whether their reuniting was meant to be.

I enjoy reading about mature men, as partners not always the usual May December or college aged guys. And it was especially nice to understand / to get all the references of the time periods written about. This was a really sweet book about overcoming grief & fear and giving love a second chance.

Silver Foxes by Grant C. Holland is a sweet second chance romance that I could not put down. I loved these characters. They are meant to be together and the emotion in this story kept me turning the pages to find out what would happen next.
Byron he had a best friend in college. He knew he was off limits but he loved music and getting together with him. When he starts to feel more than friendship for Gage his best friend, well Gage tells him he can no longer see him. Gage found his Mr. Forever.
Byron is broken hearted. But he leaves his best friend alone. He starts over, and finds himself in the process. Now he is a big fashion designer, running an empire. But still is very lonely.
A college reunion invite changes everything.
Gage, his partner Ross has died. He has been a teacher for about 25 years now. He misses Ross terribly. When he sees his old friend Byron he knows he has found his second chance. He just has to get over the guilt that he has some how left Ross behind by having a new love.
I really adored best friends reuniting and becoming lovers. I like how each character has grown from the moment we met them at the beginning to the end of the book when they are much older and wiser. When you want a sweet second chance romance I suggest this one. It is a sweet romance that made me smile.

Grant C Holland never fails to deliver a well written easy to read and a feel good book. Both Byron and Gage are in their 50's and through a college reunion, they are reunited. They fooled around in college and when Gage found Ross they lost touch. Byron never really moved forward while Gage and Ross married and built a beautiful life. Gage feels guilty for his feelings towards Byron, while Byron's old feelings come flooding back to the surface after the meeting. Byron will need to be patient while Gage will need to learn to let go of the past if they are to move forward together. You can almost feel the pain Gage is going through he is so well rounded and real. Each character comes to life on the page which increases the enjoyment for the reader because you become entwined with the characters. The secondary characters add to the story and again are so well written. This book will make you a little sad, laugh and sigh because it entertains from the first word to the last.

Mmmmm…. a story about Silver Foxes, who can resist! I truly enjoyed reading this book – it was refreshing to read about more mature characters. We are introduced to Byron and Gage, who meets again after 30 years at their college reunion. Byron is now a successful fashion designer and Gage is a school teacher who lost his husband to cancer about a year ago. Although Byron is successful in business, he never could find a replacement in his heart for Gage. Although years have passed, they still feel the spark. Will they get a second chance at love? I recommend this book to all romantics at heart. I enjoyed the author’s description of the different destinations and the cuisine in the book, the only issue I had with the book was that it ended too soon! I wanted more!

A nice love story that was meant to be
this book is not one I would normally read but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. I loved that it really felt like a story about older man, not in their prime 20’es but still sexual, loving, hopeful.
I liked that Gage didn’t have regrets, that he had a good life with his husband before he passed away, that even though it was a lost love reunion story it was sweet and not angsty. It was also sexy and romantic when they got together, I really felt them re-acquainting themselves with each other.
the only thing I would like more is some conflict, it felt a little rushed and too easy at times. It’s not a long story so I assume that contributed to the fast was the story unfolded.

Lovely, sweet uncomplicated story about two 50+ guys who met in college. Gage and Byron meet in the 80s, fool around and explore each other sexually- sort of friends with benefits. Gage starts seeing another guy, Ross whom he eventually marries. 30 years go by through life and death. They reconnect at a college reunion. Both have very different lives but the spark is still there. Liked the writing. Straightforward. A little simplistic but still rather engaging. I particularly liked that this was focused on two older MCs. Sadly not many authors will tackle characters in their 40s much less their 50s
A few typos but nothing too distracting. Gage and Byron are very likeable relatable guys. Also liked the robust secondary characters, Skeet, Annie and Teresa. Quite a good read.

This is a nice second chance romance. Having older men as the main characters is a nice change of pace from the usual fare available. The author handles the realities of an aging body very well. The characters come across as strong and confident, if sometimes a bit bemused, with their age and place in life. Both characters are well thought out and developed and their thoughts and feelings are easily understood. The spicy scenes are well done.
The prologue goes a long way in making their reunion later in life believable and their HEA satisfying.
I really enjoyed this and I was sorry when it ended.

Silver Foxes is a sweet short.
Byron had always known that Gage was the one for him but Gage had married Ross instead. Now it is 30 years later and at the reunion of their college he discovers that Gage is a widower. Ross had died of cancer the previous year leaving Gage bereft.
Would it be possible for Byron to win Gage back?
This short story is written so sympathetically. We can feel Gage's guilt at moving on even though i is what Ross had wanted him to do.
There are several hoops to jump through until we get to the HEA but it is worth it and you may need hankies.

Got for a honest review.

Haven't read to many on older relationships. It was a nice change. I thought the story was well written and the characters had the right amount of chemistry. It had a nice steady pace to keep it moving along as you read. I thought the author did a great job on the story and want to keep reading from their book shelves of books they wrote.

Thank you for letting me read your story. Hope to read more along the way.

This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. It was sweet and hot and it moved nicely. The only drawback for me was that I never really connected emotionally with Gage & Byron. I liked them a lot but I didn't fall in love with them like I do with other stories. Maybe it was just me so I'm not letting that take me away from this good story though. I was given an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Second time's a charm

Holland has written a delightful feel-good novel, full of hope. Teacher and widower Gage reunites with fashion designer Byron at their thirtieth college reunion. The plot covers the lust of the historic friendship, Gage's finding a life partner. The scene flickers about as the dual voiced focus took this reader to Wisconsin, San Francisco, North Carolina, Michigan and Oaxaca. And fiftysomething men are hot!

Nothing better than second chances, especially when your heart feels as though it may never heal.

I adored these characters and was drawn into the story which made me feel like I was right there with them.

I truly love all of your books and look forward to the next release.

Great Love Story starring Mature Couple

Thank you Grant for writing a love story featuring mc's over 50. As a gay man over 50, I appreciate characters I can identify with. This story also reminded me of my college days in the eighties. More, please.

Meh I rounded up more like 2.5 there were plenty of things I really liked about this story; their age, second chance at love, and the secondary characters. I just felt like there was more story to tell that was being kept out.

Silver Foxes

This is a new to me author and I was excited to read a book with adult males. This one didn’t capture my attention as much as I would have liked but the story and characters were good. I’ll definitely give other books by this author a chance.

Great

Gage and Byron had feelings for each other 30 years ago but then came Ross and stole Gage away. Now with the death of Ross, maybe the two have a second chance at love. It's worth reading this book to find out!

Okay book

My expectations for this book was not met. First off before I've even fish the first chapter there's the same sentence twice. I didn't feel the chemistry between Byron and Gage. This book just did not do it for me.

Although very angsty during the first part it was also rather sweet, old boyfriends meet again thirty years later. A lovely story, lots of pain and sadness at first, then a tentative reconnection, and then something lovely.

A great Silver story.

I'm always looking out for a Silver Fox storyline with substance. This was a great, yet short read. I would recommend it.
