Wow. I really disliked this book.
The writing is troubled with lots of expositions tucked in in weird places and really no difference in tone between the character.
The first meeting is a double gay for you side show that doesn't connect to how most people feel or think or and then we get stalker to add angst.

While very simplistic, this is a well written book with a captivating, enjoyable and fun storyline. Caleb and Ronan make an adorable couple, they are romantic and sweet, and them being drawn to each other and learning together draws you into their story. It's a brilliant story that is done very well.

This was a true page turner, I could not put this book down. It was my first time reading this type of book and it was very intriguing. It answered many questions that I had in my mind for years. This was a true love story everyone in life hopes to have this feeling in a relationship and find a true love like theirs. The only thing that was not realistic in this book was they had no arguments no disagreements, no as I reader I do not want a predictable story but a little more realistic.

Unexpectedly Wonderful!
I didn't expect to enjoy Caleb and Ronan as much as I did. Their relationship unfolded so sweetly. And how sexy are these guys?! I hope Jack and Adam get their story. I look forward to more from this author. If you are looking for a low angst, sweet and sexy man meets man story. read Unexpected.

The wonderful thing about reading fiction is it is just that.....fiction. Sometimes it is slow to reach fruition and sometimes things happen much faster. Both are more than acceptable in the world of fiction, especially with regards to romantic novels, even though some readers might love the pace and some might want to see a slower/faster build up.
Ms Ullmer did not spend a huge amount of time with the build up between Caleb and Ronan, and though it was quick, it was written just right. She addressed each man's feelings and fears as they realized that, for the first time in their lives, they were having romantic feelings about someone of the same sex, instead of what they were used to thus far. I loved that they were totally open to those feelings, so that the knee jerk negative reaction was not present. The author created the perfect tension when she added the extra component of a stalker and all of the dangers inherent in that type of situation. She created perfectly imperfect friends who were there for the two men unreservedly in their journey. There is a scene (or 2) that made me tear up, as I felt so strongly for these two wonderfully complicated men and the choices both had made in their lives.
Congratulations to Ms Ullmer for a wonderful read and a great love story.

So unfortunately this didn't work for me at all. The writing was fine, no issues with grammar or spelling etc. However the whole story just didn't work. Man meets man, there's an attraction, MC move in together that night, random roommate BF gets creepy, MC's 'eyes widen' when other MC calls him 'babe'....but doesn't bat an eyelid at going bareback!!! Time (as in the duration of their relationship) is brushed over and I totally lost the direction of everything. It just doesn't work. I'm sure the author had an idea of where she wanted the story to go but for me, the execution of that completely failed. I could continue commenting on all the many many things that didn't work but I don't want to sound cruel as I respect that this is someones work. I won't be continuing with this series.

Talking about chemistry and instant attraction. Caleb and Ronan fell the minute they saw each other and the sparks were flying.
Neither guys expected this immediate connection. They didn’t look for a relationship and they never had these feelings for another man. I loved how they never questioned these feelings. They were attracted and they didn’t care that the other was a man. It might seem far-fetched this instalove but Valerie’s writing made it really believable. She has a captivating and engaging writing style that had me caught into the story right from the start. All that was happening after just seems natural.
Caleb and Ronan were loveable characters and perfect for each other. Their friends didn’t question their relationship either and took it in stride. I loved their banter, the intimate scenes were hot and steamy.
It is a quick and easy read, sometimes a bit sappy but in this story, it feels just right. There are some unexpected twists to prevent it from being too sweet.

Unexpected is the first book in the A Unexpected series by author Valerie Ullmer. I loved this story. There is great flow to it and heat. The characters are well rounded and ones I fell in love with. This book is written in dual POV. I liked this as well, it allows me to sink deeper into what the characters are thinking.
Caleb financially stable. He really is a good guy overall. Generally, a quiet guy but he will go after what he wants. Outside security consultant is what he does for a living.
Ronan is a restoration architect. He has never thought to date a man before. He is intensely attracted to Caleb. He offers to let Caleb stay with him. And finds he not only desires Caleb he wants to keep him always.
I liked how open-minded both characters are. They are pretty at ease with liking both men and women. That was a refreshing twist.
I really loved how protective Ronan is as well. Overall a great read and I cannot wait to read more from this series in the future.

My heart is all aglow with this book. Whether you believe in love at first sight or not, this is a book to read! It is a wonderful love story, with passionate and soul-searing sex, that reminds us how amazing love can be.
I don't know if I could pick a favorite scene in this book. I loved the whole thing equally. It starts off captivating you with Caleb seeing Ronan across the room and being hooked immediately. He takes a chance and goes to sit by this man who has enthralled him and it takes off from there. Ronan is just as enthralled by Caleb. Talking for hours they both realize they feel about each other as they have never felt for anyone else in their lives. With some twists and turns, as life often throws us, you read about their lives together. The fun part about this book is there are a few surprises as well (which I'm not telling lol).
Caleb and Ronan’s relationship make you believe in love and a happily ever after. From the first look, you are captured in the web the author weaves around these two. Their chemistry takes you on a roller coaster of soft and easy to rough and passion filled as they can never get enough of each other. And not just in the bedroom. Their friends see what they have and want it for themselves. I know some people think that can be sickeningly sweet, but the author paints the picture as beautiful and it almost makes me cry at the beauty. It's a once in a lifetime love that will never die and will outlast time itself. It makes you dream of a love like that for everyone.
I wish for everyone to read this book. It's not a long one and each page is filled with romance. It will give you, I hope, the warmth and fuzzy feelings that I got from it. I hope that people read it as well, to have a place to go to that is full of love and hope and away from the crap of this world for a time. It's the perfect book to curl up to after a long day, or even a short one, and cast your cares away.

Unexpected is an enjoyable romance by Valerie Ullmer. First of all, if you don't like insta-love, skip this one. If you enjoy insta-love, you'll enjoy this sweet one.
Ronan and Caleb fall for each other as soon as the meet, instantly wanting to pursue a relationship. A first time attraction to a man for both men, it's amazing how quickly they moved. Honestly, it doesn't get more insta-love than this story.
It's a gripping story, full of suspense and a happy ending. In addition to insta-love, their romance revolves around some homophobia and a stalker. It's short and a quick read.

This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. Great storyline that is very well written and developed. Caleb and Ronan are wonderful characters who have instant chemistry. I really like watching their relationship and connection grow. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

This was an "unexpected" surprise that had me hooked from the beginning. It is a sweet romance, not a lot of heat, with very low angst. You know their is an issue, as it brought into the storyline very quickly, but you don't know when it will resolve.
