This is one of those series that I can see is just going to keep improving.
Ted's powers are growing, as are his relationships. He still has the occasional mishap, though he wouldn't be as likeable if he didn't. There are ever more enemies to defeat with the aid of his group of friends and moral decisions to make, as even he can't be everywhere at once.
It's really good to read about a superhero whose identity isn't a secret and who admits that he can't do it all alone.
A fun and exciting story for all ages, a book like this makes you feel young at heart.

NOTE: The author graciously provided me with a copy of this book and asked me to write a review.

In The Telepath, authors Bryan Cohen and Casey Lane continue the YA-science fiction/fantasy saga of Ted Finley, an ordinary and somewhat geeky high school junior who suddenly finds himself with amazing superpowers and learns that he's now responsible for saving the earth from an attack by a bunch of bad guys with pretty amazing powers of their own. The authors have called Ted’s saga the Viral Superhero series, and it was clear to me in reading the first book in the series, The Dark Souls, that the authors have spent a great deal of time working out his fantasy universe and the various characters' powers and abilities, and the book was quite entertaining, even for adults. The Telepath, the second book in the series, expands on the main characters and fills in a few more details of the series’ backstory.

The new book takes place a few months after the original, and Ted has become quite a national social media hero. He's also still learning how to control his powers with the help of a protector, an alien who has taken over and reanimated the body of Erica, a deceased classmate of Ted's. Although the alien in Erica's body is hundreds of years old, Erica's teenage hormones still kick in, leading to a growing physical attraction between Ted and the extremely gorgeous Erica.

Ted's got some new enemies to deal with as well this time around. First, there's a new group in town that calls itself GHA (for Go Home Alien), whose members want Ted to leave town before he makes a mistake with his powers and people get hurt. And, second, there's a shadowy figure who can control people's minds and force them to do his bidding. His bidding often seems to consist of causing rather violent trouble for Ted.

To their credit, the authors haven’t simply rewritten his first book this time around as some series authors do. Instead, The Telepath moves the main characters along rather well, showing how they have reacted to the rather mind boggling developments in the first book. The new book also has some imaginative speculation on how the world around Ted reacts to his “arrival.” All of this indicates to me that the authors have thought his series out rather thoroughly.

Not having to introduce an entire mythology this time around, the authors are able to provide more detail about the main characters, and Ted’s supporting cast is a veritable Scooby gang out to help him. In addition to Erica, there’s Natalie, Ted’s ex-girlfriend, his best friend and technical guru Dhiraj, and Dhiraj’s girlfriend, Jennifer, who also happens to be the daughter of the local police chief. The authors also give a bit more information about the forces behind Ted’s superpowers, thanks to that trusty gimmick of the overly talkative villain, who happens to hail from the same realm as does Erica.

Indeed, that main villain is one of the weaknesses of The Telepath. Despite having some mind control powers, he’s simply not all that impressive. Much better are the minions of the GHA, who simply don’t want Ted around because he’s different and very powerful. The original version of this book was written a couple of years ago, and since then, political events have made the authors seem quite prescient in choosing the GHA as what may well be a continuing antagonist of Ted’s.

This is actually the authors’ second go-around in attempting to tell the story of Ted Finley and friends. These books were originally published under different titles a couple of years ago and then revised and edited to make them a bit more concise. In this case, the edits have improved The Telepath. There is less silly humor and better character development, the result of which is a tighter, and more enjoyable book.

The two main ingredients necessary for a successful science fiction/fantasy series are a good background mythos and good characters, and the Viral Superhero series has both. Those who haven’t read the authors’ first book in the series may be a bit puzzled by just who the various forces at work behind Erica and the villain are, but the authors’ main premise is a good one. In addition, the core group of characters are well thought out, with a good potential dynamic for future tension that makes them more interesting than if they were simply a bunch of happy campers. You don’t have to be able to read minds to know that The Telepath is an entertaining book and that Ted could have some even more entertaining adventures ahead of him.

Predictable and yet entertaining

This series so far (and I have only read books 1 and 2 so far), is a young adult about a teen taking on the responsibility for saving the world. In this book it implies he can save the universe or multiverse depending on what school of thought you studied.

That being said none of that seemed to be conveyed. Also, most YA books focus on stereotypical teen angst and there wasn't much of that here. I sometimes lament the use of this type of plot device when used in other YA books. In the telepath though, it seems to be missing.

This book has tried to something different than its contemporaries and the very thing that should have elevated the story telling is the everything that seems to be missing. At every turn, I felt like I was ahead of the story and waiting for the writer to catch up. It is quite disconcerting.

Other than the elementary writing and the teen angst that I and a few other readers would most likely be tired of but missed anyway (eh?), it was not a bad read overall.

The writing style needs to mature a bit so I don't miss a part of the writing we could rather do without within the YA genre.

The mark of a good series is when the characters continue to grow and become more mature and complex while the overall story arc gets increasingly layered and complex even while individual series book plots remain complete and fun. It's a neat trick to pull off, but Bryan Cohen and Casey Lane have done it in this series book 2. Ted and Erica are still going strong, but increasingly becoming more equal partners as Ted grows in power and maturity. Supporting characters get further developed (especially Dhiraj in this novel, though Jennifer and Natalie get good treatment too) and the other supporting characters, both friend and foe, are excellent. Really, all in all, a great sophomore effort.

It was ok story because I found main villain problem could have been solved by simple meeting but no rather they will engage in meaningless battles and struggle.

I also disliked lack of character development or expansion on main characters and also meaningless additions of new characters then simply left it off.

Overall now I am not a big fan of this series anymore. Book 3 must be magical to get me back on the track.

Good story

I enjoyed this rewrite of Ted Finley. I read the first release and this one is faster packed but seems to be missing in depth characterization. Otherwise an improvement on the first effort.

Theodore Ted Finley lived in Treasure with his mom, dad & sister Christina.
He was quite the local superhero, so most of the PPL say. He also has now become a very unusual wealthy teen. Dhiraj (classmate) was a teenage entrepreneur & Ted’s business manager.

Erica LaPlante (cheerleader) was not your average teen, she was dating Ted.

Erica had the ability to communicate between the Realm of Souls & Earth to Gan (commander light soul army) or Reena (commander light soul army).
Ted, Erica, Dhiraj & Natalie all went to Treasure HS.

Several incidents occurred & Erica had hidden Ted’s otherworldly sword.

Agent Vott (Department of Homeland Security) & Agent Harding (Department of Homeland Security) were telling the Go Home Alien's Treasure Chapter (GHA) movement protestors they needed to disperse the mall parking lot. The Agents needed/wanted Ted (17), Erica & Dhiraj help in this matter.

Natalie Dormer Ted ex G/F (Basketball, field hockey, classmate) still had the hot’s for Ted.

Dhiraj had the hot’s for Sheriff Norris daughter Jennifer Norris (classmate).

Natalie (freshman) & Ted have a confrontation in the lunch room. Principal Stoll gives her 3 weeks detention.

Natalie goes to her 1st meeting of the Go Home Alien's Treasure Chapter (GHA). Travis Conner & Nick were both GHA youth leaders. The video showed Ted Finley extinguishing Jason Torello, Phil Torello & Nigel. Next agenda was the Operation Home Front. The GHA goal was to eliminate Ted.

Operation Home Front was in full swing, what did that entail?

Who is Deputy Daly?

Will Erica LaPlante ever tell all her past secrets?

Armed robberies, protest rallies, DHS, apartment fires, Treasure Library what will the superhero Ted do next to save the world?

And last but not least Albert Redican (English substitute teacher)?

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written YA sci-fi/fantasy (paranormal) book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make great YA fantasy movie, animated cartoon, or a mini TV series. To be continued. Another very easy rating of 5 stars.

Thank you for the free PDF book (Author)

Kindle Unlimited, which is probably a good thing if you like this type of book and then realize it's going to be The Viral Superhero Series (5 Book collection total} by Bryan Cohen and Casey Lane that will include 1 The Dark Souls 2 The Telepath 3 The Candidate 4 Enemy Territory 5 The Devil Within. {I got this as a review mobi copy, a here's free book we really hope you find time to actually review it type, no payment just free book, own opinions as ALWAYS, oooh superheroes *POW*....}

In our last thrilling adventure, in book 1 Ted Finley is the average nerd, who all the sudden has super powers and as is usual these days of celebrity stars becomes a viral video sensation. Besides being a teenager, his other problems include not being the only one with super powers, not knowing who is a friend and who could be a deadly foe, oh and saving the world from total annihilation and possibly the universe while not getting himself killed doing that. Killer cheerleaders may or may not play a part in this story, and happily ever after can be iffy.
{This book is an edited and revamped new edition of a novel that was previously published as Ted Saves the World.}

In this weeks episode, book 2 The Telepath we find out if a superhero can stop a mind-controlling menace, that all girlfriends keep secrets just some more than others, and certain secrets may hold the key to winning the battle but losing the war. {This book is an edited and revamped new edition of a novel that was previously published as Mind Over Easy.} The GHA {Go Home Alien} protest is still going strong, the Sheriff gets a non-birthday present, Erica has been training Ted in the use of his power but didn't expect him to find an additional one all by himself. old sorta girlfriend gets ticked, sorta new girlfriend and sorta new old new girlfriend get all messed up, forgetfulness and never forgetting vengeance, and summer 'vacation'?

In the next episode, #3 The Candidate it's all Double Trouble Toil and Portals...oh and that Ted guy is back around. 'Summer Vacation' took on a bunch of new meanings.

The Viral Superhero Series
The Chosen One/Ted Saves the World {prequel/0.5}
The Dark Souls 1
The Telepath 2
The Candidate 3
Enemy Territory 4
The Devil Within 5

You’re freakin’ Super Bryan!!!

“You can do whatever the hell you want!” Man I love that quote from Natalie! Ok, it is actually Ted she is talking about but I think it fits for Bryan. This is the second book in the Ted series and in my opinion it is so much more interesting & engrossing and I just loved it!!! In fact I loved it so much I read it all in one go!! I love how it picks up from where we left Ted and the gang. I found that because everything was basically established - people & worlds – and all of the groundwork was already laid in book 1 (Ted Saves the World), this book can just take off and run with the story now. Don’t make any mistakes - this is NOT just some piece of fluff YA book. My opinion here - I think back to another certain kid/YA series that started off with book 1 being geared for a much younger audience but as it progressed (both in story and fans/readers) it became more mature and darker so that by the time you even got to book 3 or 4, you could easily see the difference in writing etc. I compare that difference to these 2 Ted books. To me this one is that much more “mature” and will appeal to a wider or “older” audience. I love how deep it is, how “real” the people and situations are. I like that there are many facets to Ted & the others, and that while they are still in high school they are actually understanding each other on another level & maturing enough to truly help each other as friends above the “typical” teen way of thinking. I really enjoyed this one more than the first because there are lots of new interesting twists and turns, more “meat” in the story and you get to know Ted’s friends (and enemies) more with a lot more information on “new Erica” and the war that has been waging for years and the one they are trying to prevent. I SO CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE TED! Great job Bryan and if this is any indication as to how the storyline will progress, then I predict that you will have an EPIC series in your hands!!!

Cohen’s “Mind Over Easy” picks up the story several months after the conclusion of the series launch, “Ted Saves the World.” Things have changed in Treasure: Ted and Erica have been training hard, the Department of Homeland Security is keeping tabs on the teen superhero, Dhiraj has crowd funded the hi-tech lair, and the anti-Ted movement: ‘Go Home Alien’ is growing at an alarming rate.

If you haven’t read the first book, I’d recommend starting there. It isn’t absolutely necessary, but the character relationships will make more sense. Where the first book deals more with possession and physical strength, ‘Mind Over Easy’ deals with brainwashing and hallucinations. It’s hard to trust when you can’t trust your eyes.

The series follows the ‘Hero’s Journey’. Ted begins as a behind-the-scenes High School student that comes into his supernatural powers suddenly and must face trials on his continued path toward his destiny. He must build confidence and gain courage to fight evil (supernatural and the regular criminal kind). Add a dash of uncertainty, some betrayal, and a build-up to a big battle.

This Superhero/Sci-Fi/Fantasy book/series is very clean. They are entertaining, quick reads with short chapters. I’d feel perfectly comfortable having a teen devote a long weekend to the book. If nothing else, this is a solid gateway to get kids to read Sci-Fi. The main characters are all teens, except for Erica version 2.0. The dialogue flows well and feels comfortable.

Young Adults/Adults may find the ‘clean’ a little too clean, but I feel the action, character development, and plot are engaging enough to entertain. There are some definite personal struggles going on in this round; some fine-lines danced and choices to be made. You will see some broad story plots that lay nuggets to a wide opportunity for this series.

I normally don’t read ‘clean’ books – but Cohen makes it work.

If you haven’t read the first book, I would suggest starting with that first. Although you will be able to read this one alone, there is a lot that will make more sense if they are read in order.

The series follows the ‘Hero’s Journey’. This Superhero/Sci-Fi/Fantasy book/series is very clean. It is entertaining, quick to read and has short chapters, which are great when you don't have a lot of time to read. The main characters are all teens, dealing with normal teenage problems as well as "saving the world" problems. The dialogue flows well and feels comfortable. The story is easy to read and contains all the necessary elements to make it fun, exciting and addictive. It would be a great way to introduce teens to scifi/fantasy, and also adults who enjoy something more fun. The dialogue flows well and feels comfortable with lots of action, character development, and a solid, well thought out plot. I enjoyed this one more than the first one, as the characters have now become family! The author draws you into the books and you feel like part of the team. Looking forward to the next one!

This is the second book in Bryan’s "Ted Saves the World" series. "Mind Over Easy" is a great sequel, picking up shortly after the events in the first book. Ted’s training to control his powers, but Erica is keeping secrets from him so that he doesn’t become too powerful.

The stakes ratchet up significantly in this book as Ted faces backlash from those who don’t think he’s a hero, but simply someone who should be locked up for having alien powers. These anti-alien group is nearly as evil as the actual baddies. As for the ones looking to take over the Earth, they are very much on the loose too and are willing to do whatever it takes to take over the world.

This was very enjoyable. Bryan balances his story great between superhero exploits along with Ted trying to be normal teenager. There are several more books in this series, and I’ve got the next two already in my tablet…just got to make time to read them.

“Mind Over Easy” picks up the story several months after the conclusion of the series launch, “Ted Saves the World.” Not only does Ted now have to get to grips with his new found powers with the help of endless training (courtesy of Erica) but he also has the GHA (Go Home Alien) group to contend with. Ow and don’t forget the Department of Homeland Security is also keeping tabs on the teen superhero as well. This instalment introduces Albert Redican (English substitute teacher) to us who ends up causing trouble for Team Ted by taking control of people minds. Enjoyable instalment to the Ted series just as fast paced as the first. Thank you to the author, Bryan Cohen, for providing me with an eBook of 'Ted Saves the World' for the purposes of writing an honest review, it was a pleasure to read.

Young Adult Science Fiction Fantasy - Second in the Series

In the second book in the series, Ted continues to learn about his powers. He has a hot girlfriend, a lair, and a team. Can't get much better, right?

There are some challenges ahead for Ted.

Bryan Cohen's Mind Over Easy (Ted Saves the World Series Book 2) is an excellent science fiction fantasy for people of all ages. If you missed the first book, now is a great time to snag it and read it. And don't forget, we have Book 3 to look forward to!

The second book in the series and it is as good as the first.

It's nice to get the friends together working on saving the world but it's even better when issues that have been haunting them are resolved.

The book leaves a nice opening to the continuation of Ted's training but it leaves his friends and Erica at home. I wonder what book three has in store for Ted whilst he is out of town.

Thank you Bryan for another great book.

Definitely a transition book

I am cutting this book some slack since I know it is not the end book. IMHO there was not much going on in this book of the series. This book wouldn't stand on its own. If I had not read the first book I would not have liked it at all. With that said I have already bought the next 2 books in the series. I hope I am not disappointed.

This one moves full speed toward a great ending. In my opinion, this is because the author got rid of a lot of the flashbacks that were prevalent in the first (slowed that one down just slightly.) Ted learns new powers and gets into more trouble. The dialogue is still my favorite part of this series. I'm definitely going to read the next one.

After reading the first book "Ted Saves the World" I knew I was hooked. I had to find out what came next. It is very interesting to have a front seat to all the developing characters. Author Bryan Cohen keeps a good pace going without rushing the story line. I can't wait to see what other developments are coming Ted's way!

The hits keep coming in this amazing series! Ted and the gang are back in a rip roaring roller coaster of action, adventure, and...Prom! Aside from Ted's, and the author's, growing confidence and abilities there's plenty of surprises to delight the reader. Join Team Ted, it's great for the head! ;)
