ShadowWolfe

Rate this book
1273 A.D.

Recovering from a great tragedy that had befallen his family, Scott de Wolfe, eldest son of William de Wolfe and Jordan Scott, has become a career knight with no feeling, no compassion. As a premier knight for Henry III, Scott has been tasked with the management of the massive fortress of Castle Canaan after the death of the castle's commander. Although it seems like a simple enough task, little does Scott know that the moment he enters this fortress is the moment his life will change... forever.

Lady Avrielle du Rennic is reeling over the death of her husband and she blames de Wolfe for it. Fed by grief, she lashes out at the big knight who has come to take her husband's place and, eventually, take the fortress. Scott has no patience for the woman in mourning but he stops short of punishing her because she is the mother to three small children. When Scott happens to save one of her children from certain doom, a path of healing and understanding begin for them both but when the king intervenes to take Avrielle and her children away, Scott must fight for what has become precious to him. He cannot stand to lose another family.

A deep and passionate love is born from the ashes of grief in this stunning Medieval Romance, part of the de Wolfe Pack series.

ShadowWolfe is the 8th book in the de Wolfe Pack series. I really had such a blast with this one here. I did a combo variation of listening to this one and reading this on my kindle scribe. I really had a blast with this one though. This is an author that writes historical romance so authentically and you can tell she knows her history and really portrays it so well in her style of storytelling. Every time I pick her up, I am always impressed with how well her books are written and the same was true for this one.

In ShadowWolfe, this story is basically a forced proximity situation. The hero, Scott, is a widower. He lost his wife and children in a horrific accident and focused on being a battle seasoned warrior and knight and distanced himself from his family. Now its been years since, and he is commanded to take over the Castle Canaan when the man who was a husband and father and leader of Canaan, was killed sacrificing himself to save his life. What he doesn't expect is to be drawn to his widow, who is a mother of two children and pregnant with the third. Even though King Edward has plans for her, he is determined to fight for her when he finds himself in her again and feeling love again...

I absolutely adored this book. The romance was a bit lackluster in the first half of the book, which is why its a 4 star instead of a 5 star read. I really adore the way that this author just makes history come alive. She adds in such vivid detail that works so well. Both the characters were so loveable, I really became so endeared by the way that Scott fights to marry the heroine. It was so wonderful seeing the way that Scott finds himself again and faces up to his past and learns to heal. The way that this was implemented was so well done and authentic. The emotion that the author portrays was so vibrant and I was able to connect to on such a deep level.

Overall I found ShadowWolfe to be a delightful, thrilling historical adventure that delivered in so many ways! UTTERLY A JOY TO READ!

This should have been the book to follow The Wolfe. The story sucked me in right away. Two people both handling grief find love. Good story all around!

A heart-wrenching tale of love and loss — terribly tragic and perfectly heartbreaking. As soon as I hit the end, I was crying. But you're still gonna love it because it is a fantastic story.

Even though I have read all of Ms. Kathryn Le Veque’s stories I seem to find that one thing that I want more of or something silly when I never look at the story as a whole. Now don’t get me wrong I think Ms. Le Veque is one of my favorite authors but I want something more always more. In her newest installment of the Wolfe pack this story didn’t displease me in the least. There was action, sadness, redemption, betrayal, family and love all rolled into one. The story was not only complete but well crafted the characters also sparkled with life and were very three dimensional. When I first started reading Ms. Le Veque’s books her stories were so compelling they would pull me in due to their complexity, intricateness and uniqueness that I wouldn’t or couldn’t stop reading until the very last page itching for more. Of course I will warn most readers and this doesn’t change my rating of five stars out of Ms. Le Veque’s stories you will be doing a lot of crying you’ll be crying for the hero, the heroine, many minor characters and then back to the hero/heroine as a couple. I think I went through a box of Kleenex with this read. So yes it does put you on an emotional roller coaster but it is well worth it too.
Scott de Wolfe loving gregarious first born son of William de Wolfe suffers a major tragedy instead of turning to his family for support he runs away becoming a stone cold hearted warrior encasing his heart and feelings in ice people call him the black adder. Scott is ordered to assume control of Castle Canaan. So Scott goes with his knights and cold demeanor to secure the castle. When Scott gets there he sees that not only is he hated because the lord of the castle took an arrow for Scott but everyone including the lady of the castle Avrielle du Rennic is grieving most of all. Can Scott help everyone in the castle including Avrielle who he has an attraction to find peace even though Scott himself is grieving as well?
The one thing I love about Ms. Le Veque’s stories are her larger than life characters with the gregarious fun loving hero Scott we see him struggle, him grieve but we also see him find redemption and peace. I liked his transition and change throughout the story plus I wanted to give him a big hug telling him everything was going to be okay which he probably wouldn’t like anyway. In turn I wanted to do the same thing for Avrielle too but both of them had an inner strength they just didn’t know it. The love was so beautiful between them both that I couldn’t help but like them too. Of course I wouldn’t mind reading about Thomas de Wolfe, Stephen du Rennic and Stanley someday though. I do highly recommend this book and eagerly await the next book in the series about Scott’s brother Troy.

Oh WOW, what a powerful book!

Scott de Wolfe, first-born son of the legendary Sir William de Wolfe and Jordan Scott ("The Wolfe") was once a compassionate, gentle man with an incredible sense of humor. Oh yes, he was an amazing warrior, as all the de Wolfes are, but he was respected and loved by all. All that changed one day when a horrific tragedy devastated him. In his grief, he quite literally walked away from his family and friends and became a cold, hard, soulless shell of a man. Rather than face his grief, he turned numb, solitary and a devoted professional warrior. Oh yes, men still respected him. But that respect was garnered more from fear. He became known as the Wolfe of the shadows, the "Black Adder," who struck fast and furious. Gone was the man the famous Sir William de Wolfe once called "his most gregarious son."

Lady Avrielle du Rennic was a contented, happy woman married to an older knight with two bright, beautiful children and another on the way. Her husband, Nathaniel, adored her beyond measure and sweet, kind Avrielle loved him in return. But, that all changed one day when Nathaniel was called into battle by his liege, Scott de Wolfe. Devastated by her loss, Avrielle slipped into a depth of despair and grief that became a form of unfocused madness.

These two souls, deeply lost in their grief, meet and begin a long, difficult journey towards hope, healing and love.

There are so many parts of this book that I just loved. I adored the parts with Scott interacting with Stephen, Averill's innocent, adorable son. You could see the comfort the lonely little boy was inadvertently bringing Scott. I loved watching the parts of Scott's personality that were hidden and buried for so long slowly emerge. I loved Averill fearlessly question the man she blamed for her loss but not have such a closed mind to change her opinion. I especially loved the scene with Sir William and Scott's two sons. And, I loved watching these two wonderful people overcome their pain and despair and to feel hope again. For in their incredible journey, came a love and a closeness that is indeed rare. I advise you to grab a box of tissues because there are some incredibly moving scenes in this book.

I truly do not know how Kathryn Le Veque always comes up with these powerful, gripping, heart warming, page turning stories. I only know that I don't ever want her to stop. Another classic Kathryn Le Veque epic. Another keeper for sure!

Superbly Written and Very Emotional!

As I dry my eyes from sorrow and joy, I come away from this story in awe. But then, Scott is the first-born of William de Wolfe, and we cannot expect anything but greatness.

Everyone deals with death of a loved one differently. Most would break down and weep over those they’ve lost. The grieving of a lost love is emotionally impactful, and the beginning of healing for those who are left behind.

Scott isn’t like most. His immediate response to the death of his wife, his two youngest children, his sister-in-law and her two children is so devastating to him, he is unable to outwardly grieve. His heart is shattered, but no tears come.

Scott has failed his father, the one he needs to feel proud of him. Scott feels guilt for not being there to save his family. This guilt and grieving he bottles up. He can’t face his family, therefore walks away, not to see them for three years. During this time, the gregarious, light-hearted man dies and in his stead is a knight with no compassion. On the battle field, he strikes like a viper, and is known as the Black Adder. There is no longer any joy in his life, no smiles, no laughter.

Few original knights remain with him as he fights for the king. Those who have joined him after this tragic day, know him as one not to cross.

Change is in the air when Nathaniel, a long-trusted knight and friend of earlier days, takes an arrow meant for Scott. He has been asked by the king to secure Nathaniel’s Castle Canaan until such time the king can find a suitable man to permanently protect the castle, one to marry the widow.

Scott finds Avrielle, Nathaniel’s widow, so grieved for her lost she is close to losing her mind. He sees Avrielle breathtaking, reaching out to her in her grief. These two souls find a connection, a bond of pain, if you will, from that comes trust and eventually a deep and lasting love. He struggles to find the peace he needs.

He didn’t want to give in to those weak feelings of compassion and gentleness and humor that had cost him so much when Athena and the children had died. He blamed the human part of him for all of the pain he’s suffered at that time.

Avrielle’s brother, Jeremy does not see his presence of any benefit. He has battled alongside Scott for some years, but now he thinks he’s there to take Castle Canaan from him. Jeremy has issues, too. He has screwed up his life with drink, and Arielle’s husband had given him a home at Castle Canaan, along with Gordon, his father. Jeremy had been loyal to Nathaniel. He couldn’t tolerate Scott. Lots of contention between the du Rennic knights and Scott’s, which finally comes to blows.
Other dangers surface and the knights must work together to eliminate outside perils.

While experiencing the Avrielle’s grief, I began to understand the deeper grief Scott had. His hurt and guilt is intense, more than Avrielle’s for he’s buried it long. He does not doubt he will always be the man he has become.

I enjoyed the part Stewart, Scott’s long-time knight, plays and his friendship which endures beyond Scott’s treatment of him.

Some happier moments are just as engaging when Scott loses himself in the joy of children, Avrielle’s children. Sadly, he doubts his sons will ever forgive him for turning his back and running away. I enjoyed the banter between Scott and Avrielle discovering a new-found love.

In this story, another viper rears its ugly head. The viper of greed, ready to destroy all those who stand in the way.

Kathryn Le Veque brings home very poignantly a father’s love is unconditional and a man’s determination to keep what is his own safe. Le Veque, in her usual manner, wrings tears from my eyes, some of sorrow, others joy, very neatly woven into a story as rich as it is enjoyable.

An advanced copy provided by the publisher in exchange for a fair review.

Tragedy strikes and no one really knows how they will handle it until it is threatening your doorstep. Everyone grieves differently, but time heals all—isn’t that how the saying goes? Le Veque has a riveting and powerful, yet tragic story surrounding circumstances that befall the characters within this story. Readers will become enamored by this story which has heartbreak, solace, adventure, and some fun banter among the knights and residents of Castle Canaan to lighten the mood from time to time.

Scott de Wolfe is known to many across the land as the Black Adder and for good reason too. Away from his castle, tending to some errands on behalf of his father, his wife and two children along with his brother’s family fall victim to a collapsing bridge. Upon his return to his family home, the news devastates him. Instead of grieving with his remaining family, he walls his heart up and becomes unrecognizable. He leaves his home and becomes someone who has no emotion, someone who tears his enemies apart with his bare hands in battle. For years, he operates this way, with no word to his father or the two sons that he has left. As he heads to Castle Canaan for the King, he begins to feel a change. Lady du Rennic has just lost her husband and is due to give birth at any moment. Nathaniel du Rennic took an arrow in battle that should have been meant for him and he fears he could never hope to win over her trust with the lingering guilt over the death of his family and Nathaniel. As the days pass, both Scott and Avrielle begin to connect over their tragedies and with Scott’s affection growing toward her children, they realize that they may need each other far more than they would like to admit. Scott knows that he can’t let his feelings get in the way of his mission which only seems to get more involved and problematic by the minute. Not only do the du Rennic knights blame Scott for Nathaniel’s death, Scott also has to break the news that Avrielle must remarry to strengthen their allegiance to the King—and—if that isn’t enough, there may be trouble on the horizon with a neighboring lord who wants the castle for himself.

Le Veque has an appealing story, one that pulls on heartstrings and tests her characters. All of her characters are strong and well developed as is the originality and credibility of the story. The book is fairly well-written to boot. It is easy to find yourself immersed in the lives of these characters, feeling the pain that they’ve suffered and the joy that they find. If you are a reader of historical romance or medieval romance, this story may be perfect for you. This is the fourth installment in the de Wolfe Pack; however, these stories can all be read as standalones.

A copy of this book was provided to Turning Another Page by Aurora Publicity and in no way affects the honesty of this review. We provide a five-star rating to ShadowWolfe by Kathryn Le Veque.

Loved it! I adore listening to Kathryn Le Veque's medieval romance/adventure books on audio, mostly because they are so detailed and it's easy to miss something when reading as fast as I do. It's lovely to relax and listen. In this case, the narrator is Sean Patrick Hopkins, and he's done an incredible job. Great English accents (not sure if he's English or not) and excellent acting for all the different voices. He made the characters come alive - plus his voice is lovely to listen to. The story is interesting and heartbreaking in some instances, with a handful of battle scenes and a slow burn romance between a heartbroken young widow and our hero, who has never recovered from the loss of his wife and two of his children in an accident. Beautiful ending... 💓

None of this series has lived up to the moderate potential of the first book. This one in particular was flawed in the character of Jeremy, who had a generic backstory meant to explain his erratic behavior, but I wasn't convinced. Typos throughout ... "a descent man," really?

I loved this book, Scott and Avrielle's story. Even though the switching point of view in the same scene was a little confusing at times, and there was a long revelation in the middle of a battle which was unbelievable. Also, if you are looking for steamy sex scenes-- this isn't the book. That's really not a criticism, I like the tension more than the actual sex and there is plenty of tension. Although the one sex scene made me a bit uncomfortable as the heroine just gave birth 2 weeks earlier. That's a personal preference thing though, everyone's experience is different I just have in mind my horrendous experience with the injury after pushing another human being into this world. I ain't as tough as Avrielle.

What did I love? Scott and Avrielle helping each other in their grief. Scott lost his wife and a couple of his children in a carriage accident four years earlier and just retreated to a dark place in his mind going from battle to battle earning the name Black Adder and Shadowwolfe. When he meets Avrielle it is just after her husband's death in battle where Nathaniel (the husband) served Scott. Scott arrives to check on his holding after Nathaniel's death to find the people of Cannan hold Scott responsible for Nat's death because the arrow that killed Nat was meant for Scott.

Avrielle meets Scott during a fit of grief while Avrielle is heavy with Nat's child. Neither one knowing who the other were, Scott offers her and her children comfort and after that, Avrielle feels better than she has since Nat died. Scott understands grief, he's been living in its shadow for years and he knows the beautiful young woman is on the verge of losing her mind to it. Eventually they find out who each other are after Avrielle demands to speak to de Wolfe after Avrielle's brother Jeremy acts a treasonous fool and tries to lock Scott out of his own holding. When Scott takes Avrielle someplace private to talk, Avrielle goes into labor and the man she vowed to hate delivers her daughter.

I loved how Scott was a medic (physic, I think it's called in the book) and he was not at all squeamish with the process of birth. Always remained calm and that event starts to crack the stone casing around his heart. Add that to Avrielle's four year old son Stephen seeking de Wolfe out, looking for a male role model after his father's death and it doesn't take long for Scott to start feeling emotions again after locking them away for years.

Avrielle speaks to him of grief and losing a spouse. Is it normal to be angry with the deceased loved one for leaving? This makes Scott think, and open up. The healing process in this book is beautiful. I enjoyed every word. This is my fifth book by Kathryn Le Veque and I want more-- I love the setting and the story she creates. She has written so many books! Great! It'll take me awhile to get through all these lovely stories.

Scott de Wolfe is the loving gregarious first born son by only fifteen minutes ahead of his twin brother Troy de Wolfe, they are sons of the powerful, legendary English border lord, Sir William de Wolfe. Troy and Scott’s life were changed forever when a tragic accident claimed the lives of their wives and children. They all were swept away in a drowning accident in which Scott lost his beloved his wife and two small children. Scott simply ran as far away from his family as possible, it was too painful to be to see their faces, knowing they all blamed him for the tragic accident. He’s become s stone cold warrior with a heart of ice and quick to take strike he’s become known as the Black Adder.
Scott de Wolfe took his army and became a career knight for the King. Scott’s friend Nathaniel de Rennic was killed during a battle when died from an arrow meant for Scott de Wolfe. Now doing the King’s bidding Scott has been tasked with the management of the massive fortress of Castle Canaan after the death of the castle's commander until the King decides the widow’s fate. Castle Canaan is a rich fortress and the King doesn’t want it to fall into enemy hands, it will instead become will become a political pawn.
Lady Avrielle du Rennic is reeling over the death of her husband and she blames de Wolfe for it. Lady Avrielle has a startling effect on Scott when he meets her. He starts to feel his old self trying to reemerge, especially when he sees her grieving with her children and helps to deliver of her children, the healer he used to be comes out to save the unborn child’s life. Scott’s tragic loss has been taboo amongst his friends and fellow knight, but we see a slow weakening in his defenses when he encounters Lady Avrielle and her children.
Scott starts to grieve for his young family as he and Avrielle learn together how to grieve for their lost loved ones. He’s found a kindred soul in Avrielle who understand what love and loss truly means. He slowly begins to embrace life again when we see him playing war with the toy soldiers and her four year old son Stephen, this brings back fond memories of him of playing with his young sons. This is a sweet and loving reawaking between to wounded and lost souls who so deserve to be happy. 5 STARS as for this amazing story of love and loss as we follow along on the journey where we see Scott and Avrielle falling in love is both precious and beautiful to behold as they find their HEA!!! This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

Bagus banget. Gak langsung asal kawin. Padahal awalnya saya kira mereka marriage for convenience, tapi ternyata enggak. Marriednya menjelang akhir buku, setelah semua drama berakhir.

I was given a ARC to write an honest review.

A powerful book that would make you laugh and even cry. Never had I went through such a large range of emotions as I did reading this book,

Scott de Wolfe, son of Wiliam, was a man who loved to laugh and was light hearted until the tragic death of his wife and two young children. Feeling guilty of their death, though it was not his fault that of his wife, he is emotionally destroyed. Leaving the rest of his family behind, he roams the country until his father sends word to the King, who calls Scott to his service. Scott became even more of a furious warrior and feared by many. It was during a battle that his friend and fellow knight took an arrow meant for Scott, more he feels guilty for it.

Lady Avrielle du Rennic, the widow of the knight who took the arrow meant for Scott, is now alone with two children plus the one she is carrying to raise on her own, she is so lost in her relief that many believe she is going mad and like the other knights of du Renmic, she also blames Scott for the death of her husband.

Scott is sent to Castle Canaan, under the King's order, to protect the land of the deceased du Remnic. It is there that he meets the widow du Renmic and thus their story begins.

This novel takes you through the intrigue and malice of those who wish to take over Castle Canaan. There is many twist and turns, ups and downs that keep you turning the page frantically in order to find out what will happen next. Scott and his men do everything under their power to protect Lady Avrielle and her children. And in the end, two people whom hearts were broken with the loss of their love ones, find their hearts and soul healing and fall in love themselves.

Once again Kathryn Le Veque wrote a book that deserves many more stars than we can give

10 Stars - I am currently picking myself up from the whirlwind of emotions that Scott De Wolfe's story has left me with. I feel like I've been sitting in the eye of a hurricane just watching everything around me take place, while sitting with a box of Kleenex. This is a sincere testament to this author's ability to truly transport her readers, not only into her stories, but to actually feel the emotions that her characters go through. It is truly a gift to be able to translate all those emotions, of the characters she creates, into a very clear picture and understanding that her readers can comprehend all with ease. I know this to be a gift the author possesses... because I read over 300 books a year and less than a handful of stories can make me feel the way Le Veque's stories make me feel. Le Veque never disappoints.

In ShadowWolfe, you can feel the intensity and raw emotions of the hero, Scott de Wolfe throughout. You feel when his walls go up and you also feel when they come crumbling down. You also comprehend the "why" of the darkness of the Black Adder and the Wolfe in the Shadows.

There is such tragedy, not only for this hero, but to so many other characters in this story. It is gut wrenchingly painful to witness. To witness how real emotional pain can physically and emotionally cause individuals to change so drastically, not all for the good either. Scott de Wolfe and Avrielle du Rennic endure tremendous grief and despair that paralyze not only them, but the people around them. So many things are happening throughout that there is no time for a lull.

The de Wolfe's have had many stories written about them and each one brings you back to why you love the House of de Wolfe. They are a very loving, united and strong family who are so honorable. Each story written keeps getting better and better.

I loved ShadowWolfe! So many of the characters in this story go through so so much that it compels you to ache right along with them. I felt exhausted in a very good way! It is very, very good and very complexed. I enjoyed the journey!

It's truly a powerful story of raw emotions. Ms. Le Veque tore my heart out numerous times and patched it back up. The epilogue was amazing as well. I look forward to Troy's story as well.

Kathryn Le Veque has an amazing talent that transports you to an entirely different time and place. Her characters are multidimensional, well thought out, realistic characters you can't help but fall in love with over and over. The vast network of characters is interlaced with those from her other books.
Dealing with grief so deep that it transforms lives into shambles oddly enough brings Scott and Avrielle together. Their emotional connection is quite unexpected and actually becomes somewhat of a surprise.
As the master storyteller that she is, Kathryn Le Veque never cease to amaze with her attention to, and description of, even the smallest details. She brings to the forefront the emotions of the characters in a way that makes the reader feel connected to the characters.
This book, as with all her books, was a treat to read and is easy to recommend to friends. If you've never read, or listened to, any of her books, you are missing out on an unforgettable experience. Let Kathryn whisk you away into her Medieval world of love, romance, trials and tribulations, family devotion, wars, the inner workings of a warrior's family life, and above all, their allegiance to their King and Country.

Fantastic!

The story of Scott de Wolfe and Lady Avrielle du Rennic was a fantastic read about two people, both who had experienced some of life's worst pain, thrown together through events beyond their control. Scott is a large, apparently unfeeling knight whose only purpose is to fight for and follow the dictates of his king. Avrielle is a beautiful young wife and mother who is lady of the castle in which she lives. This plot is filled with an abundance of emotion- the reader is taken on a journey that includes grief, happiness, humor, conflict with evil, intrigue, and a healthy dose of lusty longing. The story included such detailed descriptions of the castle, the knights, how they lived, and the setting of the story, that the reader feels transported in time. The characters in the book are terrific and colorful as well.
I read this nearly from start to finish and was thoroughly entertained- I haven't been more grateful for a rainy day in a long time. I highly recommend this book to readers of historical romance, romance, and happy endings. I am so looking forward to Troy's story after this!

Wonderful read.

This story deals a lot on grief, and two people who are given a second chance to love again. You better have your Kleenex handy for towards the end you will be crying buckets, and smiling with joy at the happy ending. Kathryn Le Veque writes such great heart rendering books many dealing with real life feelings, not just something that happens in fiction. Pain and grief from the death of his wife and children has caused Scott de Wolfe to build a wall around his heart, he becomes a very hardened man forsaking all he loves and holds dear. Lady Avrielle has just lost her husband in battle and is so overcome by the sorrow that she is not able to function. When Scott sees her in such pain something stirs in his heart and so the healing begins for these two and love grows. As they help each other deal with their grief. I know you will love this wonderful stirring love story. Kathryn really keeps you turning those pages as you get lost in the world of de Wolfe.

This book is the most wonderful story, full of empathy, romance, love and compassion. In many ways it is a very gentle story line. Scott de Wolfe has become a hardened Knight and warrior, encased in stone since a dreadful tragedy occurred four years ago, cutting himself and his emotions off from his family who love him, his friends and the world... That is until he meets the beautiful, intelligent, strong willed and empathetic Lady Avrielle du Rennic, who herself is dealing with grief and uncertainty. As this tale unfolds, it is full of pain, humour and emotion. I filled up with tears many times reading Scott and Avrielle's story because it is so poignant and descriptive. But it is also the surrounding characters that make this such a charming book, especially Stephen Avrielle's son, the children, the other knights, Scott's family and extended family that create such a heart-warming tale. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Scott de Wolfe is the oldest son of the great William de Wolfe. He faces a terrible tragedy at the start of this book , and that makes him a totally different type of man. Gone is the happy, gregarious man and in his place is an emotionless, deadly warrior.
Avrielle Du Rennic has taken her loss very badly. So much so that her family worry for her mental state. When the man all around her blame for that loss appears at the castle open rebellion is possible.
You will need to get the tissues ready before you start this. Trying to read while crying is very difficult, and trust me you will cry. It's not all sadness though. Both our hero and heroine learn how to open their hearts again. There are several battles to be fought and children to play with. As usual from this author we are instantly drawn into the lives of our characters and feel all their emotions. I loved every page

The Wolfe Continues

Kathryn le Veques has done it again ShadowWolfe had me on rollercoaster ride of emotions from the very first page. Scott, ShowWolfe, oldest of twin sons of William, The Wolfe brings his story in this book.
From the first page, Kathryn le Veques starts with a heart breaking beginning which is needed in being able to understand what she is telling us.
Though out the book you can't help but live through the characters lives as they are going through them.
I won't give much more of the plot but just know this book is an example of why Kathryn le Veques is Queen of Medieval times. Her book are so lifelike, the images that come to mind as you read you will feel as if you're going through them.
This book is page turning, can't put down, and stay up all night long kind of book.
You will be hooked....

I loved this book so much , Scott is a wonderful character , who has needed his own story to be told for a while.
Before you get too chapter one you will need a box of tissues.
It doesnt stop there, keep them close.
This is an emotional journey of two people , with much to proove to themselves and to each other .To me one of the best side characters is Jeremy , so mixed up but so devoted.I adored him .
By 3/4 through you'll need those tissues again in handfulls.
Kathryn writes books of love , war, inspiration, emotion, reunion, births , deaths ,and second chances ,among many others topics.
This has to be one of the most emotional , I loved it and cant wait to hear Troys story .
Exceptional book xxx

SHADOWS OF GRIEF AND BETRAYAL

Splendid!
The book begins with disaster, more or less, and travels through denial, and more denial... Did I mention denial? Emotional shutdown? Anger? And all the stages of grief.
A larger than life, but emotionally wounded hero, and a heroine nearly killed by grief end up within the same castle, fighting the same battles and coming to use each other as a!lies to get what they each need, and to heal.
The characters jump out of the page, swords at the ready, and do battle. (Do not mistake - the lady may not have a literal sword, but this author never leaves a character totally unarmed!)
The plot is romantic, but has a few bits of mystery dropped in, and enough battle to satisfy any lust for bloodletting I had.
I only get five stars, a!as...

I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title.

No one knows how they will react to the death of loved ones: some run away from their grief, hiding it deep within. Using their vocation as their solace.
Others blame those that have passed. Feeling as though the loved one has let them down, when they have not returned to them, whole and alive.
Others need to defend what the loved had, especially against anyone that may appear to be the cause of the death.
This may seem a morbid subject, but it is a very human trait, and through this tale, we see how sometimes one grieving person may actually help another, to come to terms with the person's loss.
A very intriguing story.

Nice addition

I recently discovered this author and I loved this book. This was so powerful just because of the subject matter. Grief is handled differently by people and to me this book was really hard. I read some of this book at work and was crying at one scene.

The book was well written and flowed perfectly. It was a beautiful story of loss and coming through the other side. This family is so powerful in their love and forgiveness it is amazing and something we need nowadays. This author is good at describing things and you actually feel like you're there. I recommend this book but have tissues ready. All her books are stand alone but I started with Wolfe just because I like reading in order.

To Love Again

Kathryn Le Veque does it again!! She weaves a story that is has different feelings or emotions. You are angry, crying, laughing and just enjoying reading. Scott de Wolfe cut everyone out of his life when he heard about the death of his wife and two younger children. He has bottled up all of his feelings and emotions. His life is spared when a knight is killed with an arrow that is meant for Scott. He is sent to Nathaniel's home to secure it from being taken over. So many things happened bad and good. He meets Nathaniel's widow, Avrielle and the two children.
There is so much more to this book, that it needs to be read and enjoyed.

Another wonderful installment to The Wolfe Saga. I cried while reading the Prologue-advance warning to have Kleenex nearby-but loved the journey. Scott is a very damaged man, after the death of his beloved family. He has no feeling or caring for anyone or anything. But then he is sent to Castle Canaan, where he meets another damaged soul-Avrielle and her children. The children are absolutely adorable, crack the walls around his heart, and he begins to heal. He also begins to have feelings for Avrielle. This poses many problems with her family. The castle is besieged and the fight scene is one of the best in the book. This couple has to be one of my favorite in the de Wolfe family.

Wow!!!!!!!!

Kathryn Le Veque has another best seller in her hands. The knight known as ShadowWolfe, the Black Adder or just Scott deWolfe has lost his soul when his wife and children die in a tragic accident. He became a man who has a heart of stone. When he is forced by the king to go to Canaan castle to insure a match with the lady of the castle and a Scottish lord. The political marriage would ensure the kings area. The knights of the castle resents De Wolfe, the Lord of Canaan had been killed by a arrow ment for de Wolfe. I will let this stand here. This story made me cry on several occasions. I can recommend ShadowWolfe very very highly.

Sorrow and Love

I would give Kathryn Le Veque many more stars for her books. Her stories are excellent and she keeps you wanting to hurry so you can see what happens next. Never a dull moment. Yes, there is some fighting in her tales. It is after all a Medieval tale when there was much turmoil going on. There is a lot of love between heroes and their ladies and families. I also like how Ms. Le Veque runs her books with people from her other books. Each book that I have read is a standalone and I have read many of them. Shadow Wolfe was one that I was most anxious to read and was happy to see ito. N Kindle. This was very heartwarming.
