"This 16 page booklet is an excellent work by Francis Schaeffer. This is a great resource for anyone researching infant baptism, in particular, those from a Baptistic background. Schaeffer addresses reformed perspectives regarding immersion, covenant, the sign of baptism, baptism in church history, and Baptistic perspectives in regards to each. Newly reprinted & new cover
Francis August Schaeffer was an American Evangelical Christian theologian, philosopher, and Presbyterian pastor. He is most famous for his writings and his establishment of the L'Abri community in Switzerland. Opposed to theological modernism, Schaeffer promoted a more historic Protestant faith and a presuppositional approach to Christian apologetics which he believed would answer the questions of the age.
Baptism by Francis A. Schaeffer is a terrific booklet defending the biblical practice of infant baptism. I am amazed at how concisely and quickly he was able to defend, expound, and refute many of the misrepresentations towards this position. I highly commend this little booklet.
At least part of this little book is transcribed almost verbatim from a message or two on baptism that Schaeffer gave at L'Abri during the Westminster Confession series.
While some from varying camps may sneer at this book by a man who represents a bygone era of evangelical and even fundamentalist Presbyterianism, (I'm referring more to his theology than his "worldview" teaching) this is probably still a contender as a good short introduction to the Reformed teaching on the mode and subjects (or objects, if you prefer) of baptism. I can't say I'm convinced at this time, but sometimes brevity is to be preferred.
“Não somos mortos nesta era por não batizarmos nossos filhos, não obstante devamos fazê-lo porque Deus assim deseja. O batismo de seus filhos é parte do seu privilégio como cristão. Faça isso com ação de graças, além das outras coisas boas que Deus lhe dá.”
