Rozhodne sa Allison pre kariéru modelky? Tichá a hanblivá Allison Cloudová nemôže uveriť, čo sa jej prihodilo. Módny časopis Belle si ju vybral za modelku do nasledujúceho čísla. Nanešťastie, spolu s ňou vybrali aj Stacy Hansenovú. Vtedy sa pokojný život Allison obráti hore nohami.
Are these based on the Girl Talk board game? What a world. Who knew that marketing to pre-teens could be so profitable, before the ‘80s? The Babysitters’ Club is an immediate ancestor, because Allison is a token diverse person and Randy Is From New York. (Allison is Chippewa, which means that Girl Talk is up there with John Hassler for providing Native protagonists in the ‘90s when nobody else was. Seriously, well done, Girl Talk.)
Allison gets chosen to model for an offbrand teen magazine who is doing a shoot nearby. The Girl Talk books take place in Minnesota in a small town, and the modeling stuff takes place at the Windmere Mall because the Mall of America won’t open until a year after this is published. Stacy, the irredeemable bitch at school, is also chosen to model for Belle magazine, and she reaches out to Allison during the shoot, but then she attempts some skullduggery with a boy named Bruce, who hasn’t figured out that these girls are in junior high, not high school. Oh, Bruce.
Allison realizes that Stacy is not her friend, but her friends are also not being her friends: they’re not listening, they’re putting words in her mouth, they’re jealous, they’re mean because Stacy’s being nice to Allison. In the end they make up, because there are only so many kids in a small town to be friends with and Allison is a delightful person. And the book ended so all conflicts must resolve at the end.
Maybe Allison should have gone to New York to model? Most of the time someone in a YA book gives up a chance at fame and glory, I’m disappointed in them, but modeling’s such a tenuous career that I think Allison dodged a bullet.
I got this out of a moldy little free library and it was much appreciated, but seriously, keep your LFLs watertight if you have them.
The New You (Girl Talk) 3 During a sleepover, Sabrina finds an advertisement about a makeover that will take place in a nearby mall. After figuring out the system for choosing the recipients of the makeover Alison is the only one selected. She and Stacey (whose clique have also gone for the makeover) get selected to do some modeling. Stacey becomes friendly with Allison (as they are the only two representing their school) and they have fun with the rest of the models on set. But then Alison starts to "change" and begins to alienate her GT clique. That is until she finds out who she "thinks" is her friend really isn't her friend.
My Thoughts: From the jump, you really have to question when people come into your life that haven't been nice to you before. True people change, but you can NOT be naïve. Blame it on YEARS of being burnt, but it comes with a side effect. And that is skepticism. I actually think that during the shot when they're being photographed and when Stacey show's Alison the pictures she's being genuine. I didn't feel at this times she had an ulterior motive. But to go after a guy who she initially didn't seem to have any interest in just because she could to piss Allison off was shady as hell. I don't think we've ever gotten a cover with Stacey in it, but I'm willing to bet she looks just like the other Stacey in the baby sister's club (blond hair, blue eyes). If that's the case like Claudia she's the most attractive because she's "exotic". (Allison that is) And Stacey (this one) is just jealous. But I wonder why she got cut out of most of the photos. I'm not denying it served her right but if BELLE hired her it just seems like a waste of money to hire a model and hardly feature them in anything shot and YOU chose them. As for Allison's "change". I didn't really feel like she did that much. She changes her looks. They can't get mad at her for that. Sabrina is the one that pushed her into that. She doesn't immediately hop to Sabrina's defense when Stacey tells her to get lost. I don't think this was the malicious intent of Alison because she chose Stacey over Sabrina. I think this is just Allison's character. Allison from what we know is the "shy one". She's also the "nice" one. In other word's she's an introvert. Being an introvert myself we don't always speak up when we want to. Allison probably WANTED to say something but had a hard time doing it or either didn't do it quick enough. Have you ever looked back on a situation and thought about what you should have done or said differently? She doesn't make some appointments because she has a shot. Ok, so she forgot. Again she didn't deliberately do this out of ego because she's a model now. Again I see jealousy. NONE of the other GT cliques got picked. I think (even though Sabrina might have been happy for Allison) AGAIN I've been there having to act like your happy for a friend and force a smile when inside its just painful to think you should have been the one to get the thing they got. In the end, Allison gets offered a chance to go to New York but she turns it down. I never fully get why in fictional situations like this girls turn down opportunities (once-in-a-lifetime opportunities) because they don't want to leave their friends. I'm not saying you should choose money over friends, but what I am saving is this. Allison is just a freshman and right now life is pretty much easy for her but down the line when she's older she'll probably look back on not going to New York (I hope they were offering her a tutor as well) and kick herself because she could have used that money. If her friends were really her friends they would have definitely wanted that for her. I'm sorry that the book didn't build on the romance with her and the guy but then again I'm not that sorry.
